Acer Aspire M5100 Desktop crashed, not recognizing hardware

Q: Acer Aspire M5100 Desktop crashed, not recognizing hardware

I believe my desktop crashed. I know the monitor and the other hardware works. I hooked my monitor to my laptop and it works fine so does my mouse and keyboard. Before my Desktop computer stop working the monitor would say "no signal" and the keyboard and mouse would not light up. This happened several times before it finally crashed. I would have to reboot. Just before the crash, I could not update my antivirus software and the color was odd looking then the screen flashed something about a crash and that was the last time it came on. It was once recognizing the key board and the mouse, but now it does not recognize any hardware. It never did recognize the monitor after the crash. The monitor says "no signal." Is there any downloadable software that I can use to bring my Computer back to life? Window's Vista Home Premium is the OS. AMD 64 live. No extra recovery software came with my computer. Can someone please help me?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Aspire M5100 Desktop computer will not start or boot up properly. The blue indicator is on to show that I have started it up. But, my monitor keeps displaying: ''No video input''. I can hear that the drive is not booting properly as it used to. This started about a month ago, but at times it did display and boot properly. Now it does nothing at all. I cannot get my recovery discs to work either as the drive does not seem to function properly. Can anyone help me, and also is it possible anyone has a service manual for this model? I've Googled it but seem to only get a user manual and a service manual for the laptop. But I need one for this desktop.

A:Acer Aspire M5100 Desktop will not boot up

I'd start with the power supply first, partial failures are very common with Acer's. Do you have access to another power supply that you can try?

Acer doesn't provide service manual's.

I have an Acer Aspire M5100 and I cleaned it today to get rid of all the dust. However, after leaving it for awhile and turning it back on again, I got no image. Also, when it was working properly I would always get a beep before it started up and now I don't get that beep anymore.

On the screen, it comes up with Acer then 'No Signal.' I got this from Bright House and I have asked them to fix it for me but it's going to take over a month to do it and I would rather have it up and working by that time.

I don't know why it isn't beeping anymore and I don't understand why the image isn't coming up, unless I've touched something I haven't or moved something I haven't.

Thanks!

So the problem is that my laptop does not recognize both ram sticks when I put them in together.I have a 4GB stick that came with the laptop and I had another 2GB stick lying around and decided to do a minor upgrade. Alas, I don't see 6GB of ram when I boot up. The system (and the bios) only recognize 4GB (the original stick that came with the laptop).I have triedswitching the sticks aroundbooting up with only 2GB stickbooting up with only 4GB stick4GB stick in other laptop2GB stick in other laptop4GB stick from other laptop in both slotsAll of the above yelided no results, in the way that everything was fine when I tried any of those. The laptop booted up every time, and the other laptop (the tester) booted up with all of the above mentioned sticks. So I guess it's not the sticks, or the slots? The fun thing is that the task manager, system manager and bios all show only 4GB while CPU-Z shows the full 6GB and sees both sticks. So is it because of the mismatch of the speed, of the cas or of the voltage? If so should I generally just be better to get one 6GB or one 8GB (1.35v ??)?

Hey guys,
I have been having this problem for a long time now. I have done my research and the solutions that other people had didn't really seem to work for me. I have tried reinstallling the display driver, formatting the computer, updating the driver, i even bought a new ATI display driver. If you guys can help me it will really be appreciated. Okay so this is what exactly happens. I would be using my computer normally then it would freeze up, the screen would go black. Sometimes it would go to a BSOD and i have to restart, sometimes it doesnt come back, and sometimes it does comeback. When it does comeback a little message pops up saying "Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered" It is really Starting to annoy me.

From what you've described, you've done all the testing/replacement that we would have done.
In that case it's most likely that there's a problem with your motherboard and how it handles graphics.
I'd suggest a new motherboard, but that'll set you back around $100 (US) and there's no guarantee that this is the problem. If you do purchase a new mobo, be sure that you can return it for your money back if it doesn't work.

Good luck!

Hi, first post and a newbie so thanks for being here. Normally I use an Acer Aspire 5742 laptop running Windows 7 but the screen is dead with no cursor and no signs of a boot-up, although the computer is running when switched on. I have resurrected my Dell Inspiron 530, also running Windows 7, to do a rescue mission. I have connected an ethernet cable to desktop to see if I can get some un-backed-up documents off the laptop. Because I cannot see what's going on with the laptop I cannot map it to the desktop so therefore nothing is happening. How can I see my laptop files on my desktop? Thanks, Lawrence

I failed in updating the BIOS as per Acer's instructions, and now I have a bricked PC.

I'm trying to restore the original BIOS, but not having any luck. The PC boots, I hear two beeps - one short one long, and then it hangs. The power cycles to the devices & the fan, but it doesn't do anything. I tried it with the BIOS jumpers set both at 1-2 and 2-3. No luck.

What are the key strokes I need to press to force BIOS reset? Or am I toast with this MB?

A:Acer Aspire X1301 BIOS update crashed

Hello gerry and welcome . Mate how old is the machine mate? cos if you have bricked it as you think you have you maybe up for a new one but.....

The other thing is why did you try updating the BIOS? and was this the one you tried updating from Acer Support: Downloads & Support Documents - Desktop / Aspire / Aspire X1301

There are plenty of Googles for that problem and from what I have come across two beeps usually refers to some things in the RAM here are some refs
Computer POST and beep codes

What I would try myself first is to remove the battery lave it for a good hour or so - I have had some IBM jobs that required longer - replace with a new one, reseat the RAM and try again.

I'll keep scratching round in the meantime. Found this if it is of any help but I still think the battery change will narrow it down a bit

Tho the fan is going and DVD drive opens, but I haven't opened the back, I was just using it and it was going slow I just clicked the mouse a few times and it went off, and hasn't come back on since, I am quite upset as I had loads if photos videos and music I hadn't backed up. Any chance of it coming back to life or has it had it?

Assuming your computer won't turn on or won't display anything on the screen you may want to start by trying a working power supply from another computer, that's usually what goes first in many computers.

Hello,

Here is my problem, in the nether abyss of what acer calls a website they say that the M5100 cant take windows 7. Great, this after 2 days of searching to make sure I was good to go, and after win 7 pro was installed. My graphics drivers shut down the computer after a blue screen when ever I open an application. I also have 0 sound...
Whwn I go to download the latest display drivers for my AMD radeon it wigs out the comp and shuts it down. Is there anything that can be done about this? info you need or a crazy computer guy method I would have never even known about unless I asked?

I restarted my computer like normal and for whatever reason the computer is now stuck at the Acer boot screen. I try to press DEL to enter Setup and I even tried pressing F12 to go into the Boot Setup, but for whatever reason the computer does not respond to anything.

To shut it off I have to hold down the power button and eventually it shuts off.

Stuff to know:
- I have a wireless mouse and keyboard being used on that desktop.. Should I perhaps try to plug in a corded mouse and keyboard?
- I'm running on Windows 7 Ultimate.
Thanks

I got this laptop in 2014 and it gave me hell at the beginning, then it worked, then during the switch to w10, it gave me more hell. Fast forward to 2016, I have a proper desktop because frankly I could not rely on the laptop anymore, oddly enough it's behaved without a hitch for a while now. Anyway, I opened it up and switched out the HDD (1TB WD slim) for an SSD, and I've been thinking of switching out the 4GB ram stick for an 8GB one and maybe the WNA (AR5BWB222) for an Intel one (Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 HMC Rev.2). My question is the following, can I replace the RAM for any PC12800/1600 MHz SO-DIMM DDR3L CL11 1,35v stick? or does it have to be the Acer approved ones? (which seem to be substantially more expensive).  Is there a list of compatible hardware for the laptop? I wanna give it new life, if it's possible. Anyway, thanks in advance!

Hello all.

I am posting here on behalf of my uncle, a man who is not tech savvy and in need of assistance.

He has received from his older brother an Acer Aspire m5100 PC, which the brother himself got from a neighbor who was going to toss it out. The PC initially came with Windows 8 installed. My uncle like many users was completely disoriented by the Metro UI of Windows 8, so we set him up yesterday with a Windows 7 Home Premium x64 installation. The OS itself works fine, but we are having serious audio issues.

Any system sounds, online video, and local audio simply does not play on the machine. Instead, a deafening popping and crackling static can be heard.

To try to alleviate the issue I have of course searched through these and many other forums and databases. So far I have tried using the last official driver release on the Acer support page for this model in Vista compatibility mode. I have also tried the most recent Realtek drivers, 2.71 or whatever the number is at the top of this forum. Neither driver has given any improvement.

Here are the specifications of the PC as given by Acer. All of the other components besides the OS have been untouched.
Acer Support: Aspire M5100 Specifications

I might also add that I tried booting an Ubuntu install through a USB drive on the front of the machine. I was able to hear the audio perfectly fine through that method, so I am assuming the problem isn't necessarily one of the hardware or any interference. If that is incorrect... Read more

A:Realtek Audio Static with Acer m5100 Windows 7 Install

Sounds was also fine in Windows 8?

Never worked right in 7 at all, after fresh install?

I am puzzled, since a Linux Live disc showed it working fine.

What's the audio listed as in Device Manager under Sound...

You uninstalled the audio driver and installed the 2.71 drivers via update from Device Manager's device list?

I am in way over my head and could use a push in the right direction.

I have an Acer Aspire M5100 Desktop that was running Vista 32 bit. I tried to upgrade to Windows 7, and am now stuck. I do not know what the exact problem is. I think it is EITHER a problem with BIOS or with an incompatible graphics driver.

After the upgrade process (I did not do a clean install), when the computer rebooted for the last time, the screen went black and it it did not advance past a certain point. The error message read, cannot boot from CD.

Since then, when I turn on my computer, the screen goes to black. That's it. If I push delete, I can access BIOS. Even when the boot priority is the CD Rom, nothing happens. I cannot access a GUI to make changes to drivers, etc.

With all of the known incompatibilities this computer has with Windows 7, it probably would be best to return to Vista. Ideally, without a clean install because of all the software and files on the computer. But I understand a clean install might be necessary.

How do I use my Vista recovery CD when there is no GUI accessible? Can I do this through the BIOS menu? I am not good with command prompt coding, so if that is mandatory, I would love some help there!

Unfortunately, I do not know the exact computer specs, again because there is no GUI. The best I can do is this Acer website:

Hello everyone I am having an insane amount of trouble with my Acer Aspire laptop that was working correctly until all the sudden the wireless went out stating that there is 'no networking hardware'I'm not sure what could cause this but two new things happened the night it went out.1. I bought a wireless signal for my desktop (I read somewhere in the Windows help files that the signal could knock out others I think it's silly but who knows)2. I bought a new mouse, tried to install it only to find that numerous people could not find the hardware for it. It went from lit up with no hardware found, nonfunctional. To not lit up but the computer still tried to install the software, no good. I feel like this problem is mainly associated with a cheap mouse because I wasn't the only one who could not install it.Those are the only two new things to happen to this laptop in the 24 hour period it went from functioning to no wireless hardware what so ever. My router is 2 feet away. I have tried removing the battery and disconnecting it from the wall, have tried turning off the signal, then on again. I have also restored my computer twice, back to a time earlier in the day when it didn't do the most recent windows update. And nothing. I don't want to say the internal hardware somehow fried but something went wrong somewhere. What is some steps I can do to try to test or fix this problem? Hello Jade Knight,

First of all could you explain more fully what you mean by you "bought a wireless signal for your desktop" ?? Did you install a wireless adapter in the desktop or what?

Moving forward, you can open up Action Center on the laptop, click on Troubleshooting, then on Network and Internet, and then on Network Adapter. This will troubleshoot ethernet and wireless adapters. The Troubleshooter checks a large number of common problems and tries to fix them automatically. Good place to start.

If the Troubleshooter doesn't correct the problem then try opening a command prompt and typing in ipconfig /all. The output will list all network adapters and their physical address. This will tell you if the system evens knows of the adapters or not.

Move on to Device Manager under Devices and Printers in Control Panel. With Device Manager open Expand the Network adapters group and look for any icons on the adapters listed.
A black exclamation point (!) on a yellow field ? Indicates that the device is not functioning properly.
A red ?X? ? Indicates the device as been disabled.
A blue ?i? on a white filed ? Indicates the device was manually configured
If any of the above icons appear, try right clicking the problem device and enable if disabled or uninstall the device and then reinstall the device.

Copy the results of the ipconfig/all and paste into next post, also let us know what you discovered in Device Manager.

Good Luck

The computer belonged to an older gentleman who rarely used it and never updated it, so I started by cleaning out the garbage with CCleaner, then updating Vista thru SP2. During the update processes, it crashed 3-4 time (BSOD). Last thing I installed on it was Google Earth, which crashed it if you attempted to drag the border of the GE window out to make it larger, and sometimes just when GE loaded.

The computer came with the minimum 1GB RAM required to run Vista, and it was VERY slow doing everything, so I suggested replacing one of the 512MB memory DIMMs with a 2GB DIMM, which we did, so we now had 2.5GB of RAM. Some things, especially the bootup, went much faster thereafter, but it was still a slug otherwise.

So, took the drastic step of a destructive recovery using the disks Acer provides. . . and during that process, it also crashed a couple of times. After the recovery, started to download/install the updates. Crashes started again.

Thinking that maybe one of the original 512MB DIMMs might be bad and (of course) it was the one we left in. So swapped it for the one we had pulled. Made no difference, so the memory is not what causing the problem. Checked to make sure all cables were not loose, ran Speccy to check the CPU's temperature (usually 33-35 degrees C) and the drive's temp (44 degrees C), so crashes aren't due to overheating. Software originally ca... Read more

Isn't this the same computer?

Since it's basically the same problem, we'll have to close one of the threads. Which one would you like to leave open? Or I could merge them both together as well.

Are you looking to see if other people think that its a good machine? Its kind of a subjective answer. What are you looking to use it for?

Looking at the product page for the X3400 desktop on acer's website, it says the computer comes with 4gb of ddr3, maybe just a typing error?

Hi all I'm new here I just finished typing up a well thought out post only to be asked to log in after hitting post and to find I had to start again GRRRRRRRRR

Ok so I will start again and keep it short and brief this time.

I need help please I want to upgrade my computers RAM I'm a begginer by the way but try my hardest to understand and research all I can. I'm glad to have found this forum cause it's a speedier process having people experienced in the area to look to for advice apposed to trying to learn it all on my own and figure it out. Anyways my computers details are:

*Acer Aspire T300 Desktop PC
*Windows XP Home Edition 2002 32 bit
*Intel Celeron CPU 2.50GHz
*248mb Ram

I'm a beginner and have been doing extensive reading on how to upgrade Ram ect. Basically my computer sucks and it is forever out of virtual memory. From what I've read the amount of Ram I have is pathetic. So I want to upgrade to the maximum amount of Ram my computer can handle 2GB.

I've been on crucial.com and it recommended that to do this I get two of these:
1GB, 184-pin DIMM, DDR PC2700 memory module
CT524267
Module Size: 1GB
Package: 184-pin DIMM
Feature: DDR PC2700
Specs: DDR PC2700 CL=2.5 Unbuffered NON-ECC DDR333 2.5V 128Meg x 64
I've been looking around locally as I live in New Zealand for compatible Ram that I can get to upgrade and have come across a few places. But one that I found new and cheap on a online auction... Read more

I have an Acer Aspire T135 desktop with sound card issues. The system is about twelve years old, and I bought it new.  The sound quit about a year ago and I have tried many ways to solve the problem along with remote access tech. support with no success. I have been told the card has failed, and needs to be replaced with an external sound card. I am hoping that this is an issue I can resolve " In House " with out all the replacement fuss I've been told.        If anyone out there knows how to fix this problem, I would certainly appreciate the help.    Thanks.

Welcome to seven forums tflazio: The only drivers that are avalible on the Acer site for the Conexant Audio drivers are 32 bit drivers Acer Support - Drivers & Download I also checked the windows update catalog(only 32bit XP) and the Acer drivers are more current. Please go to device manager.click on audio>properties>details tab>drop down menu> hardware id. Copy and paste the ID srting and maybe someone can find a workable driver. Through some searching it seems that that chip has been used by various other laptop manufacturers and some have supported Vista. Thanks Fabe

Hello all, I've registered and am now making my first post on Tech Support Forum because I'm fed up with the crashes, freezes, and the BSOD my Aspire M5800 has been giving me for close to a year now. While I consider myself computer literate I am not as knowledgeable as most of the posters here, so I am grateful for any help given.

Here are my computer's specs:

? OS - Windows 7
? x64
? Originally running Windows Vista, upgraded with Acer Windows 7 upgrade promotion
? OS from disc, not original
? System purchased in August of 2009
? Windows 7 installed in February of 2010
? CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 @ 2.50 GHz (4 CPUs,) ~2.5GHz, 6144 MB RAM
? Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series - Driver Date is 11/25/2010
? MotherBoard: I assume 'Mainboard' is the same thing? If so:

Chipset Type: Intel G43 Express
Data Bus Speed: 1333.0 MHz
? Power Supply - Acer Power Supply - 500.0 Watt

The BSOD has appeared many times over the past year after an array of activities on my computer, from browsing the web on FF or Chrome, to playing games like WoW or Civilization, or listening to music on iTunes. It seems to crash without fail when I am using a lot of memory (RAM.) When running Memtest (with several windows open simultaneously as recommended by the program) the computer lags along (predictably) before BSOD'ing. This leads me to believe this is a memory-related issue.

In terms of which BSOD messages I have received, off the top of my head I can list:
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
MEMORY... Read more
