Yoga 730 15 Hinges Wobbling

Q: Yoga 730 15 Hinges Wobbling

Just Purchased Lenovo Yoga 15 730 in July with i7 almost spending $1000 a few months later there is a lot of wobble on the screen when using on my lap or even solid table. The screen also wobbles and makes a weird pop when opening. What are some options?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have owned my yoga for 5 years. I've had no issues until recently. One of the hinges doesn't rotate easily and has now broken the grommet that keeps the case together. Is there a way to easily loosen them to make them smoother with less tension? I've had to purchase a new top case and I don't want to snap that one either.

After having my yoga 460 for about half a year, using it mainly in normal laptop mode in the office, one hinge got stuck while closing laptop and now allow only for limited movement (I cannot close the lid and cannot open more than slighly over 90deg). Suppousedly those hinges survive over 30 000 openings. Apparently not. Anyone else had problems with low build quality of recent thinkpads? Is it just Yoga, or P40 as well? I'm considering changing for some more robust laptop.

I noticed my hinges were getting loose and also the display kind of wobled in the pretty standard position - approx.angle 125deg.   I contacted local Lenovo service partner and he suggested replacing the hinges which turned out to be a good idea as one of the old hinges turned out to be faulty. I had a possibility to hold both of the replaced hinges and test them and there was a huge difference between the left one and the right one. The left one moved freely in the range + - 5 degrees in any position. Pretty weird as I had previously heard so much  praise regarding the Lenovo yoga hinges. The issue has been resolved for me but it may happen to other users so I think it is good to know such an issue may arise in time to come. If so, hopefully within the product warranty. Take care David

The other day I was closing my ThinkPad Yoga, and I noticed a bad-sounding crunch. I tried opening and closing it again, but there didn't seem to be a problem. But I noticed today that something definitely has happened. Now, my hinges are out of alignment with one another. The right hinge looks OK, but the left hinge looks kinked forward. This causes the screen to be lopsided when in laptop mode, but it it also noticeable when the laptop and screen is flattened out. See in the the following image how the right hinge is flat, but the left hinge is kinked up?  Is there anything that can be done about this?

A:Lenovo Thinkpad S3 Yoga 14 hinges are out of align...

Ouch.... that's gotta hurt  I just grabbed my TP Yoga 14 to see if there is a way, without forcing it, to turn it into that position and it is not possible. Maybe it is time to send you machine to the local Lenovo Service Center and ask if the warranty will take over that. Regards

I am hearing from my laptop a hissing/rattling noise, like you might expect from a conventional hard drive or something. It is not the thermal module fans (it occurs when they fans are stopped) and it is not the noise people refer to when moving their laptop (the hinge pieces). It is relatively quiet, but I thought it sounded like perhaps a dead or  dying fan, however it seems to be coming from the back middle of the laptop, where the mainboard is. Any idea what this might be?

A:Yoga 900 - rattling noise (not hinges, not fans)

The only thing I can think of is the battery. This is in the middle of the laptop, and may make noises when charging. Does this occur when it charges, or does it occur all the time?

I would like to get some help hopefully from someone on here. Recently about 2 months ago i had sent my laptop in for a warranty repair (1 year manuf. warrranty) to fix a broken fan and extremely bad light bleed issue with the screen. When I got the laptop back the screen was unchanged although they assured me it was and many of the rubber covers for the screws were also missing, but the fan was fixed. As soon as I had received it back initially the hinges were making a cracking sound but I had thought nothing of it, now they are out of alignment and I am unable to fully close or move the laptop its full range of motion. I was told when I called the warranty center today that i am out of warranty, even when it is lenovo's service technicians who caused this problem. Is there anyone who can help with a resolution to this?

After 6 -7 month of use your hinges gone. Dell India support say, this does not cover on warranty.here was no drop, spill or accidental damage done to the laptop.
Dell India support  say it is due to usage. Please note laptop is meant to be use and not to keep on showcase. If your hinges broken with in 6 month, do you think next time the same user will ever look for a Dell laptop.
Either improve your quality in India or replaced your poor quality spare. Or else simple go away from India.

Hey Everyone!

I have a Satellite Pro M30, the screen seems to wobble a little probably because of a loose hinge. Can you please help me with this issue?
Also, my notebook seems to overheat, how can I clean it from dust to stop the overheating?

Thank-You

A:Screen wobbling and overheating issues on my Satellite Pro M30

Hi mate!
For the screen issue. As it is an hardware thing, I would suggest you contact a local ASP. Sure, you could try for yourself to get this fixed, but as I can tell from my own, display mounting is not that easy thing to do on your own, if you have no experience in that.

To clean your notebook from dust you can use compressed air spray. Make sure too, that those cooling modules are not blocked by objects on your table, because if you have it blocked, warm air ponds and can't be refreshed.

I have had my HP now for 2 years. The hinges as come loose and found that even the bottom screws are missing. I mainly use my HP on the desk or when I am sitting in front of the TV.  I have handed in the laptop to Chaos computer who came back to me letting me know that the real problem isnt the hindges but the keyboard itself detached itself from the board. The screws are missing. This board will cost me R3999 to replace and this is without even the labor. My frustrations comes that I have spend over R15 000 on this machine which hardly lasted me two years. I cannot spend another R3999 on it. There were several complaints to this complany of HP. I want to know from HP how they are goign to fix this issue as clearly it is a fault in the product. I seen several complaints online about the same issue. I'm waiting to hear back from you

Looking for answers, I noticed that many are experiencing the same issues with the hinges. mine have never fallen as well. When I called to support they told me that it was going to cost me almost 300 as an estimate. I don't think that's fair considering that is a poor design issue.

A:Hinges

Just to add more information about the problem: Haven't used the laptop in almost a year since the hinges on my HP Envy Touchsmart 15 began to separate the bottom plastic cover of the PC while opening for use. Like I mentioned previously, the laptop has never been dropped.  This issue started up slowly, but since an external monitor was connected to the laptop for some time, I'm not sure exactly when this problem started. As seen, it seems the hinge has "fallen" out of place and attempting to open the laptop separates the bottom black part from the silver colored plastic side cover (vent?). In addition, the hinge itself no longer supports the weight of the laptop screen, and appears loose inside (hinge wiggles back and forth) and does not have a strong fixed hold. See pictures for more information (the small black piece of plastic seen in one of the pics fell out of the laptop while attempting to open a bit for taking better pictures).

Q: Hinges

I've had my HP Envy for two years. I am the sole user of this laptop. The left hinge broke after a few short months. It was stationary -- on a desk and never transported, therefore never dropped and obviously defective. I was told that hinge replacement is not covered under warranty, so I made the decision to tolerate it since I didn't want to be without it for an indefinite period of time and also felt the estimated $250 in repair was unreasonable. A few weeks later, the right hinge broke causing a significant separation in the case. This past weekend, the keyboard began to fail. Some of the letters do not register and have to be copied and pasted (you can appreciate how long it is taking me to write this!). I took it into a repair shop today hoping to have a replacement keyboard installed and was told they would not be able to help me because they felt they would not be able to put it back together as a result of the damage caused from the failing hinges. They felt the best option, all things considered, would be to purchase a wireless keyboard and resign myself to the idea that what I have here is a desktop. HP... take responsibility for these failing hinges without your normal fee. You created a DEFECTIVE product with a substandard design, rendering an otherwise fantastic laptop useless. This is a widespread problem that should not have to be accepted from customers who are investing over $1000 in this product.

Dell service wouldn't do a thing as I didn't buy the extended warranty, what <profane> this was. Then a month later the screen cracked.   6 months later the exact same issue with my sons 5558. We caught it before the screen was damaged but the exact same problem where the screws that hold the hinges on strip out the plastic. I will never ever buy another dell product as their quality and customer service <profane>.  Terrible made the plastic

My name is Albert and I bought an Idea series Z580 during last November (2012). It is really amazing to understand that the guy (Leno shop-thrissur-kerala) actually predicted the first complaint of my laptop. The story is like this - When I received my laptop, I asked him to give me a true answer to my question - 'what complaint should I expect from the laptop (hardware).' He gave me an advice that I should be opening the laptop (I mean, opening the lid/screen part so that the laptop maintains a 'L' shape, to use it) by gently pushing the screen portion, at the middle part of the upper side of the screen(near to camera) away from the mouse pad. Since then I(the only user) have been doing this when ever I open the machine. And have been taking care of it like a baby..!! But Just after 9months the right side (when you face a open laptop) hinge portion started giving some sound and when I examined I could see that the outer covering of the CPU section of the laptop, on the left had side of the hinge attachment, has came out. I am literally heart broken, as I am not a regular user and was taking good care of my machine.

Hi RWeldon,It is possible that the wiring harness for the screen has become entangled in the hinge causing a pinch in the wires.  You can re-route the cable into the channel where it belongs to resolve this issue.

I may consider myself as a careful user, however, my S10 developed cracks on both side of the lid near the hinges after 10 months of usage. I bring it down to the local lenovo service centre but was told it's not under warrenty. They said that this is a cosmetic wearing so cannot claim under warranty. They also said that there is no part no. for the lid to be reported as an item under warranty. Is this so? Because I have read about this as a common issue among 1st generation of S10. Thus, the redesign of better hings in S10-2. My warranty is ending soon, is there any hope that I can replace the lid for this?

A:Cracks on lid near hinges

post a pic of the crack, and lets see what it is.... most cracks develop due to overtight hinges and/or manufacturing flaws on the case (i.e. have microscopic cracks or perfect square corners). Usually the tiny microscopic cracks under cyclic stress from opening and closing causes the crack to propagate.  If it is a manufucturing flaws and not due to user abuse, then i think it is only fair that it should be covered under normal warranty.

HP Beats Special Edition Notebook - 15-p390nr...hinges are stuck and the lid (screen) will not open. Warranty ran out on 12-17-16, can you believe that! Removed battery. ...no help. Please forgive me if I'm just going to repeat what many many people have already said, why do the hinge problems persist. ..for many models across many years? Is it a form of combined obsolescence...to manufacture a product to last just past the warranty? Look I purchased this notebook right at a year ago, hardly used, never dropped or abused in any way. In fact I have been ever mindful that the hinges may develop a problem, because my wife has a Toshiba Satellite C855-S5239...that has a serious hinge problem! I would greatly appreciate a HP tech tell me what I need to do to fix this issue. Hewlett Packard  representatives. ..if you can honestly face this issue and address your problem. ...With this model and specifically my notebook, your involvement would be well received!  The automotive industry uses " Technical Service Bulletins", which are almost indispensable when purchasing a used car. If this issue goes unresolved to my satisfaction, which is to say timely and free. ...Then before I ever invest in another I will research the manufacturers blogs and make a  more informed decision.

I've had my HP Envy for almost 3 years now, and while I love it, I've had one hinge problem after another. A year ago, the left hinge grew loose on my laptop, to the point that opening it would cause loud cracking noises. Quickly afterwards the bottom part of the laptop started to separate and it became impossible to open the laptop up. I sent my laptop in for repairs and everything seemed to work well ... but now the right hinge is becoming loose and my laptop doesn't close completely when I shut it.  I've read that hinge problems seem to be a common defect for HP Envy owners, and I don't want to pay for more repairs if the same thing is going to happen again and again. Does support have any solutions?

I see from the forums that this seems to be a common problem, not an isolated one. Has anyone had any luck from HP on resolving this issue?

The hinges on my laptop are very loose. I've looked at all the other post about this issue and it seems that many others experience this as well. I just want to get it fixed. Thank you.

The Hinges on my computer are broken. I have taken special care of my notebook and never dropped it.  Rarely does it leave my desk.  Please give me recommendations on how to fix this issue. Thanks

Is the warranty still valid?  If so, contact HP (hyperlink at bottom-left of this web-page). Sometimes, just posting here attracts the attention of an HP employee, who will send "private E-mail" to you, about your problem.

I bought my wife an HP Envy M6 notebook in March 2015. She has the exact same problem that other people have had with their notebook hinges. In her case, both have broken somehow.  Her notebook casing separates from the screen  when opening/closing, and it is hard to keep open unless you push the screen 110 - 120 degrees or so. When the notebook is closed, you can see a big gap between the screen and the casing. At this time, her screen has not suffered, but I experienced something similar myself with an older HP notebook and my screen turned light blue. I would like to avoid hers to get to that point. The warranty on her notebook has expired already, but I would like do something, so that she can continue using her laptop for another couple of years if possible. I think HP should have a plan (repair/replace) for this specific issue, since it seems to be a very common one among HP notebook owners.  This is the 3rd case of a hinge issue with HP notebooks in our household. I have kept getting them because I like their looks and versatility, but I am getting to the point where I might have to switch to a different manufacturer with stronger built machines.  Would appreciate any help... Thank you!
