Anti-virus software won't scan, well-known anti-virus sites won't open.

Q: Anti-virus software won't scan, well-known anti-virus sites won't open.

I only noticed this when I tried to update my Windows Live Messenger, and the Microsoft website wouldn't open on Safari or IE. I tried downloading new anti-virus software like Norton, but none of their sites would open either. I Googled a bit, and lo and behold, I'm not the only one to have this kind of problem. I saw a post on this website (although the thread had closed) that was strikingly similar, so I thought I'd ask for help too. So pleeeeeease, please help me! X3
I understand I need to post a HijackThis log, so here it is:

Preferred Solution: Anti-virus software won't scan, well-known anti-virus sites won't open.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Anti-virus software won't scan, well-known anti-virus sites won't open.

It looks like the virus has got wise to THIS website too, because it no longer opens unless I use a proxy server. PLEASE help me, someone... I need to be able to use my internet banking without worrying that this stupid virus has got me keylogged or something! Please, please PLEASE help me.

Hello everyone.

I have tried my best to remove this virus on my laptop, but no success yet.

Here are all of the things the virus does:

-Prevents access to websites like spybot, instead of letting me see the site, it simply says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage", and there is a button to click that says "Diagnose Connection Problem" (no connection problem of course)

-When I click links from a google search, they most of the time take me to the wrong webpage and I am forced to copy/paste the original link into the web bar.

-Programs like Combofix, Spybot, and HJT do not work and a box comes up after starting them saying "Combofix has stopped working".

-I tried running the programs in Safe Mode, but no luck there.

If anyone knows a fix please reply.

Thanks,

Sean

I renamed my Combofix to something else and I followed the instructions from a different post and here is the log I ended up with:

I've been using Malwarebytes to scan my computer but in the last couple of day it's been crashing during a full scan. I've done a quick scan and it managed to complete it with 0 infected files but the full scan always crashing  within an hour of the scan. The last time i did a full scan was about a week/a week an half ago and Malwarebytes completed the whole scan with 0 infected files.

I also uninstalled Malwarebytes and tried to scan my computer with AVG but the same thing keeps happening, it always crashing about an hour into the scan. Also my computer runs fine at the start of a scan but towards the end (before it crashes) it slows down a lot (happens to both the anti-virus software).

Additional info:
I perform the scan without performing other tasks. I haven't had this problem with Malwarebytes before.
My operating system is Window 7 ultimate 64-bit

Can someone please help me

Thanks

A:Anti-Virus software freezes during scan

Hello and Welcome -Your title for the topic is "Anti-Virus software freezes during scan" but do you mean Malwarebytes program ??Note that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not an Antivirus, but an Antimalware program - Please follow the directions in This Post on how to Un / Reinstall your version of Malwarebytes program. Lastly - Download Security Check by Screen317 from Here* Save it to your Desktop.* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.Note: If a security program requests permission to access the Internet, allow it to do so. Thank You -Spelling Edit -

Hiya

Empty your TIF's and maybe defrag. Some sites take longer than others and some go down for short periods. In the transition of Google with Deja, I witnessed this a lot. Still do, actually.

eddie

Just had a thought. Have you checked that your security settings are on medium and on default? Also, don't disable the AV. Could be a malicous site.

A:Can't access Anti Virus Malware Software sites

I'm working on a friends Hp laptop and gotten in a real mess. They had a virus which was stopping the computer from communicating with Virus/Spyware websites.

I ran combo fix but after that the problem still existed. Then automatic updates asked me to update so i figured why not. It was vista sp1 this is when everything started to go wrong. Vista Hung after this update and i couldn't get it to load. I tried system restore but that hangs and never finishes. Then i read that system restore works better from safe mode. I can't get into safe mode it also hangs when it gets to crcdisk.sys

Now It looks like i will have to do a HP system recoverey. The Hp recovery does give me a chance to do a back up of data so I ran that part of the program but now I have another problem the program doesn't recognise the usb stick so it's got nothing to save to. Is their anything i can do to get the usb stick working again. When i put the stick in it does light up.

If that doesn't work is it possible to install XP on the computer. So it will dual boot then using XP i can save all of his data?

A:What about files that anti virus software doesn't scan?

Try booting to safe mode and then re-running your full system scan - sometimes an anti-virus program cannot access files in normal mode as they are in use and access to them is protected by Windows, as I understand it.

In safe mode, only the minimum set of system files are launched so some that cannot be accessed in normal mode may be now able to scanned.

Some of the files that you list below may just be temporary files created by Windows and Internet Explorer that can safely be deleted - there are various cleanup programs that can do this for you, but it's always safe to use the built-in tools in Windows to do this. For instance, if you open Internet Explorer, then select Tools > Options > General, you can click on the "Delete Cookies," "Delete Temporary Files," and "Clear History" tabs and this will clear out a lot of stuff. Also you can use the Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup tool to clear out more stuff safely.

Also, as I understand it, even if a file cannot be scanned when you initiate a user virus scan (also known as an "on-demand scan") - there is usually another line of defence built into anti-virus programs called the "memory-resident scanner" - this normally automatically monitors any applications running in memory (i.e. active applications) and detects if any known viral processes are trying to run. If detected these are shut down and you will usually see an al... Read more

I can't update any anti virus programs. I have tried avg, avast and zone alarm, all without success. With zone alarm though, i am able to download the spyware updates, but it just says "the task encountered an error" while trying to update the anti virus.

I have tried repeatedly to run dds but it just hangs during the scan. I even ran it in safe mode but it still won't show the logs. I had the same problem with combofix. I tried running that a couple of days ago and it just would'nt scan in normal/safe mode.

Hi ,
I have made carefull screening of my PC as instructed.
B'fore I post the logs and the attachments here 's the problem i 'm facing.

I 'm unable to open any anti virus website or any live scanning links(from microsoft n not even able to get into safe mode).
I recently purchased Trend Micro (2008) and it's not letting me subscribe or do online updates(says ,u don't have internet connection, while my connectivity is absolutley fine) .I tried with other AVs(Avira) but to no avail.

so, it clearly indicates there's some virus /malware inside my PC.
The system was formatted prior to installing the Anti virus.
Moreover, I have already run the anti malware and CC cleaner.
I will greatly appreciate any quick help in this regards as i am in the middle of an imp work and will be leaving this place in another 12 hours.

Thanks a lot in advance!

A:Help! I cant use anti spyware, or visit anti virus sites.

For the moment I can only see one Trojan to come out..

Please download Combofix from HERE or HERE

Save ComboFix to the desktop.

Please copy this page to *Notepad* and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out portions of these instructions.

It's IMPORTANT to carry out the instructions in the sequence listed below.

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Open *notepad* and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Quote:

KillAll::

File::
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\svchost.exe

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe which is on the Desktop.

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

Restart your computer.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt

Please copy and paste the ComboFix.txt along with a fresh HijackThis log in your next reply please.

*Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall*

Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here's my problem. I have Windows XP and had a Kaspersky trial, which expired about 2 days ago. Yesterday, something popped up on my screen where it looks like the generic install windows when you install a program. It automatically went "Next" and "Ok" and installed something by itself in about 3 seconds. I caught the name and it was called: BlueRaTech. I Googled this and only found one page that mentioned it was a virus or spyware. It's in my programs folder but only has an Uninstall option. I didn't want to click it just yet in case it might activate something. I installed other virus programs to scan, but it wouldn't load. I tried another antivirus program, but it would not start either. If I go to any anti-virus or spyware website, it blocks it. It gives always says there's a Network Interruption. But any other website is fine and I can visit, but it's just extremely slow.

I then went in Safe Mode to uninstall it with the Add/Remove. I went in Safe Mode with Networking, but when I tried to go online, I was unable to. And when I tried to run the antivirus, I was still unable to under Safe Mode. I just had my computer fixed (for a hardware problem) 3 weeks ago, so I did not have a save point for a system restore, but I do have a lot of files and programs that I don't want to get rid of. When I restarted in normal mode, and checked my programs, it w... Read more

My operating system is Windows XP Professional(version 2002) with Service Pack 2.

For the past few days, I have been getting these annoying bursts of non-stop pop-ups for antivirus software and adult websites. I forget the company of the software, but one name that keeps showing up in IE's title bar is "Outerinfo." These ads are more than often for adult sites, and are getting extremely annoying. They continuously pop-up until I actually go in and end the "iexplore.exe" process itself. Another note, the site I was browsing when all of this trouble started was www.guildlaunch.com.

I've also got two copies of the "csrss.exe" process running in my task manager. I can end one of them, leading me to believe that is a fake and the one running under the username SYSTEM is the real one from Windows XP. I've looked up most of the suspicious-looking processes by name on Google and found links to the big antivirus names like Norton and McAfee, but I just don't have the money for that. I did try McAfee's free AVERT Stinger scan, as well as Ad-Aware's free trial, but the problems continue.

Two processes that I looked up in specific were "_qbotinj.exe" and "_qbotnti.exe". I read a few sites about it and supposedly it was mass-mailing my passwords entered into IE to someone? I found the _qbot files on my computer and deleted their folder completely, then changed all my passwords to be safe. I haven't see... Read more

I just bought my first ever smartphone (yes, I've been living under a rock) - the iphone 5s. I'm after recommendations for good software to protect it, free if possible.

I've looked in the itunes store and the options for anti-virus seem limited. The Mcafee app gets bad reviews and the others I've never heard of, and/or have no reviews. any suggestions would be great.

On the anti-malware front, i can't seem to find anything in itunes store when i try to search. I like the Malwarebytes anti-Malware program for my laptop, but unless I'm mistaken the only mobile app they have is for Androids, not iphones. Again, any recommendations would be much appreciated.

A:Good anti-virus and anti-malware software for iphone 5s

The reason they have more anti-virus apps for Android is because the Android platform is more vulnerable to malware. On Android, you are able to download and install a variety of things from unknown sources.

For the iPhone, however, anti-virus isn't really needed unless you have jailbroken your device.

Hope this helped.

I tried to update my anti virus software through safer-networking.org, but couldn't get the site to come up. I googled anti virus software and would either get a message that says "Internet explorer cannot display this webpage" and below that there is a "Diagnose Connection Problems" button or I get redirected when I clicked on any of the links in the search results. I am also redirected sometimes even when I was searching sites that had nothing to do with anti virus software. When I am redirected, it is usually to a screen that tells me my computer is under attack or that the site I'm trying to visit is dangerous...even if its a site I know is safe. My computer is also running much slower than usual.

I seem to have a bug on my home computer (it's a PC with Windows XP 2002 Home Edition). Was browsing on the Internet earlier today and it just restarted itself. Now I can't get back online (I'm still able to connect using my laptop, though). And it prevents me from being able to open any anti-virus software or save any of my files (I was trying to save some of my pics on a disc, but the screen will just keep refreshing itself). I was actually able to run Norton once, though, but it found nothing. I also tried in safe mode, but no luck, as I still only get the following error: "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application". Trying to do a system restore gives me the same error. Not sure what to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have about 40-50 PCs running Windows XP Professional and XP Home. The current Anti-Virus software we are using is Norton Internet Security 2010. We want to look at other options. Some of the options we are considering are: staying with Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro, Kaspersky, Microsoft Security Essentials. I am looking for some guidance in selecting the best program for our situation. Can anybody help??

Hi folks I just installed win 8.1 and I'm wondering if I really really need antivirus and anti spam software. With win 7 I had eset smart security 5 and it worked well but I'm wondering if win 8.1's firewall and defender software is enough to keep me as well protected as eset's smart security 5 software.

I'm a regular guy who checks email, goes on various forums, surfs porn and downloads movies and games.

Would windows defender and firewall be enough to protect me?

A:Anti virus and anti spam software necessary

Anti-Virus is always a good idea. Windows Defender is not very effective at detecting/removing malware.

I have a nasty if not multiple nasty virus's and have not been successful removing them. It started with the XP Anti-Virus 2011 Removal fake anti-virus popping up with all real anti-virus programs disabled and anytime I try to go to an antivirus website I'm redirected to a random site. This happens in all browsers not just Internet Explorer. I also had many of my files changed to hidden file folders and also the start/all programs button does not show any of my programs. I mananged to get both Malwarebytes and Superantispyware on my computer and was able to get rid of much of the problems by running these programs. Now it seems the XP Anti-Virus 2011 has been removed but I still have the issue with my webpages being redirected depending on which page I try to access. I also have many processes that should not be running in the task manager and when i close them out they just start back up again. This worm seems to be accessing my iexplorer because there are multiple iexplorer.exe open at all times and sometimes the CPU Usage gets very high which is not normal for my computer. The final symptom is that at random times I get a webpage pop up or if not a webpage an error that reads like the following example:

Camera Wizard not poping up after removing Total Security/Antivirus Pro_2010 I have a PC with Windows XP SP3 with Avast, SuperAnti-Spyware and MBAM while browsing I got a yellow virus warning (something win32 I believe) from Avast pop up near the bottom tray and within seconds the Total Security pop-ups started. My PC slowed to a stop so I rebooted and saw that Antivirus Pro_2010 had installed itself on my PC. All my Anti Virus programs would not start (ie MBAM) so I ended up following forums to end some processes, delete some .dll files that were known to be malicious and rename the .exe's to get Anti Virus programs to run. I installed and used AVG which found a couple things. Then I used ComboFix, and finally I got MBAM to run which found a good 40+ trojans etc. I believe I got the virus off but I tried to restore to before I got the virus but was unable to. I have since run scans with MBAM and SuperAnti-Spyware which have found nothing. Avast also finds nothing but it has a list of 44 files (mostly in WINDOWS\ folder with the last path part of file doubled) that it is unable to scan: because "The system cannot find the specified path". When I look on my C: drive and follow the file path, the second to last part is always missing (ie. WINDOWS\addins\addins) addins is not there. When I plug in my camera, the camera wizard does not pop up anymore as it use to before I had and removed the virus. I also saw on the unscanable list that there was a WINDOWS\Connecti... Read more

I did a little searching and asked another site but wasn't able to get any help. I seem to be having similar issues to jlee100. There is something that keeps redirecting or disabling me from going to anti-virus/anti-spyware sites like Spybot and lavasoft etc... I was able to download Adaware but it fails to connect to the server to install the necessary updates needed. Spybot, I was not able to access the site so I had to download the program from Download.com. Once downloaded, with the autoupdate box checked, the program would not install, it would also fail getting to the update servers. I unchecked the box the program installed, after completion I assume it was all installed but it wont even pop up, the program doesn't even seem to be working. Macafee also had kept deleting some reoccurring cookies that were like @advertising and junk too, I'm not sure if that makes any difference but I figured why not post everything. Also again not sure if it would help but along with this I had an autorun worm preventing me from getting to my C drive, I was able to get help for that problem and I'm now able to access it. I'll post a Hijack this log here as well, I hope if it's not too much trouble and if possible I could get some help with this problem, It was actually an unpleasant birthday present for me to get on Tuesday, boy did it ruin my day. xD

I'm running Windows XP.

About a week ago I got a virus, I believe it was called Antivir Software Pro, that claimed my computer was infected and I needed to give them money to fix it. That virus blocked websites and all other anti-virus programs from being downloaded, installed or used. My friend tried to wipe my computer and re-install Windows, but the virus stopped that as well. It wouldn't let me re-install windows claiming it couldn't find a harddrive.

We finally got Malwarebytes to run in safe mode and and then Spybot. It helped some, I can reach websites now. However it's gradually getting worse again. I get re-directed to other sites, some sites are becoming blocked again and I can no longer run any anti-virus software.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not very good with this stuff, but I can get a hijack this log if that helps. I would mainly just like to wipe and start fresh.

Hello,

I normally try and resolve these problems by myself, but I have run into a wall with this one. I have tried running Malwarebytes, it picked up a few things, but none of them cured the problem.

I am running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3. I have access to my genuine Windows CD.

I cannot open any anti-virus websites or Microsoft related websites. Sites such as bleepingcomputer, malwarebytes etc. are all blocked. Both Firefox and IE 8 have this problem.

I also one day turned the computer on to have my searchbar reset to a Babylon search engine? I also have the problem of text being highlighted on websites and when you mouse over them they are links to advertisments.

Thanks in advance for any help.

It first started when I kept getting this javascript error every time a popup would come up. I tried to search the error code in google and found out that every time I click a link, I get redirected.

I also don't know if this is related, but I have bellsouth internet and on a regular basis I have a ping of around 90, but recently, it's been about 2000 with a jitter of around 1500. However, when I'm in a skype call with a friend from Cali., it goes back down to 90 and stays that way til we hang up. I don't know if it's related or not, but if it's not, I just really need the first problem fixed.

(Yeah. The PC's antiquated. Don't giggle:)

My S3 Savage driver keeps crashing on me, quite unpredictably, bringing the resolution down. I've tried updating it, but Windows keep saying I already have the best driver. Im thinking it's no malware problem though. Will probably get a better videocard.

Mozilla also crashes from time to time. Plus windows explorer. The desktop icons go missing, and I can only run programs thru Task Manager unless I restart the PC. So I end up restarting always.

Also, I cannot access windows recovery (that was when I was trying to imitate the suggested solutions for the other distressed members at the forum). I get this message: NTLDR is compressed, press CTRL + alt + del.

When i tried to run exterminate it, it listed the ff:

Rolepi GV
Silly DI DIC (autorun.inf)
A
Olhrwef.exe
2nuk.com
among other things.
But it was a trial version so no cleansing took place.

@ forumuser10: I have a kaspersky installer, but again I can't update the database because i can't access their websites, so the viruses go undetected. Same for the other antivirus installer... Read more

I did a bonehead move of installing PC tools anti-virus before uninstalling vipre on my wife who's out of town. The kids infected it playing flash games. long story short, Her Gateway (win7 home premium) is on a a start-up loop. All I can get to work with a recovery disk is get into the DOS prompt by the shift+F10 at the recovery screen. Is there any way I can fix this with regedit or in a DOS prompt?

If it helps, here's the startup Repair Log:
