Q: Lenovo Z410 wont boot with 2nd HDD in Optical Bay ...

Original Config ? Lenevo Z410 Intel Core i5, 6gb DDR3, 1TB HDDI have replaced the original HDD with 256gb Kingston SSD and have placed the HDD in optical drive bay using HDD caddy sourced from the local market. (similar to https://amzn.com/B0058AH2US )When both SSD and HDD are connected, the laptop boots for 1 second and then powers off. I will not power on even if I hit the power button. Only after resetting the CMOS jumper the laptop boot again. I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Lenovo Z410 came with v37 BIOS dated 2013.I went to Lenovo website and downloaded and ran 8DCN40WW.exeInstead of taking normal time to flash, Windows started rebooting after only a couple sec. No bootup. No beep. No Lenovo logo. Power light comes on. Blank screen (no backlight). After 50+ bootup attempts I sometimes get the blue error message at bootup:InsydeH20 invalid firmware image. After changing RAM positions, and trying the Lenovo "rescue" bootup button, I got a bootup.CPU-Z still shows the BIOS is V37 (ie it didn't flash). I know I have Secure Boot enabled. So, to fix this I believe I need to force flash the old v37 BIOS image. SUGGESTIONS?HELP?

A:BIOS v40 flash failed on Lenovo Z410. No boot (screen blank). InsydeH20 invalid image firmware!

Forgot to mention.I already tried "draining power". IE disassembling my laptop, and disconnecting the battery and AC adapter, and holding power button for 60sec+ many times. It doesn't fix the issue. Also, the RAM position etc, obviously has nothing to do with anything. I was able to bootup with exact same 2x DIMM config as originally.

My laptop was working fine while i was playing (league of legends to be exact) when suddenly my fps went down greatly then i found out the problem was my laptop was running on 800MHz (using realtemp) and won't go up. I could not find the problem much less the solution. When i couldn't find anything i tried the one key recovery to revert to factory settings, but still the problem persisted. I found on the net that most people with this problem used throttle stop so i did too. It was working fine but then my charger broke (my battery is dead too, broke around a week or two before my charger). I thought that my charger was causing the throttling because my laptop worked great again after buying a new charger. But that lasted only for a day. It is now throttling again at 800MHz. I am afraid that something will break again but i can't seem to find the problem. temperature is consistently around 40-60 degrees C. I hope someone knows or previously had this problem that found a solution. or at least knows exactly what the problem is. I have had my Lenovo IdeaPad Z410 since around January, and I have just recently expierienced the problem of the battery dropping to zero. What happens is my battery will be draining at a normal pace then all of a sudden my laptop will shut down and will not go back on as it thinks the battery is dead. If it is plugged when this happens then the orange battery low light will begin flashing and the message goes from saying "Fully charged (100%)" to "1% remaining (plugged in, charging)". This is quite annoying as I cannot take my laptop anywhere without fear of it randomly dying on me. I would assume I wouldn't need a new battery after only having the laptop for a few months. Also, if you are not familiar with this model, the battery is built in internally so I cannot try removing it and putting it back in myself. Any advice would be appreciated; I'd rather not deal with Lenovo's customer support unless I absolutely have to.

A:Lenovo IdeaPad Z410 Battery Suddenly Drops From 100% to 0%

hi LordMothim,
Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Based from your findings, it's possible that:
- the battery circuit inside is not working to unload the charge, or
- one of the battery cells have already reached its life span
- the chip that handles how the battery gets charge/discharge and checks the charge level of each battery cell (both are controlled by a firmware) is malfunctioning.
Batteries degrade overtime due to heat and daily use. If you're still under warranty, I recommend you contact lenovo and report the issue as you most likely need a replacement battery.

Recently, my optical drive on my t430 broke. I had an old drive that I salvaged from an old HP laptop, and I replaced it with that. The drive works, But there is a small issue. My boot time got INCREDIBLY slow. Not the windows boot, the POST screen. It's stuck on the screen with the Lenovo logo for over two minutes. it eventually boots, and as far as i can tell, windows is fine. is there a way to fix this?

Hello,I have this habit of sometime puting my laptop into sleep or hibernate mood. So, that's what I did last time when I used my laptop Z410. Last night, I picked up my laptop and turned it on. It started up fine. The user login screen of windows 8.1 also loaded fine. The battery level was above 50%. Then, I connected my charger and the laptop, all of sudden, died. Now it does not boot up. Nothing happens when I press the power button. There's also no indication for charging. I checked voltage of my charger and it seems to be fine.Anyone have an idea of what might be the cause? Thanks in advance.

I did tried to clean it from water but doesnt help. Please help me. I dont know what to do because its my only computer and I dont want to buy a new one yet.

The water has shorted out the charging system on the motherboard. For future reference, if you spill any liquid on a laptop, open it up fully, and turn it over upside down on a towel and bounce it gently for a few times. Leave it there for 24 hours Your laptop is most likely toast...

Here's my sad story (I'm using a Lenovo Z580 laptop with Windows 7):

On Tues, 11/11/14 I installed all of the critical & important Windows Updates along with 2 additional updates (I don't recall what the additional ones were for).

After the updates completed I rebooted the machine, but the display did not come on. The lights and fan came on, but no display. I rebooted 3 or 4 more times and nothing changed. I plugged an external monitor into the laptop but got no display on either screen. From there I spent an hour or so powering the machine completely down, removing the battery, then rebooting while trying to enter either Safe Mode with F8 or the BIOS with F2 but each time I did the computer did not respond. A friend suggested removing and replacing the CMOS battery. I did that, put the machine back together, but now when I push the power button the lights and fan come on for about 1 second, go off for about 8 seconds, and that cycle (1 second on, 8 seconds off) repeats until I remove the battery. I did put back the original CMOS battery and the same thing continues to happen.

I've gone all over the internet for the past 2 days looking for suggestions and nothing I've found or done is resolving the issue.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Right now I've got a brick, so I'm pretty willing to try anything.

I replaced the HD on this laptop with an SSD a little less than a year ago. Today I found the computer had apparently rebooted itself, and was stuck on the start-up screen (instead of the usual screensaver), "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button." The blue "ThinkVantage Button" does nothing. About 1 out of 10 tries, I can get onto the screen that says "Entering BIOS setup utility," but it never actually gets there. I've tried booting the system with various disk utilites on USB drives to no avail. I can't seem to get the BIOS to change to booting from a thumb drive. More ominiously, I can't seem to get other computers to recognize the SSD when attached externally using a SATA-to-USB connector, although I don't have any other SSDs to test it to make certain it's not the connector. The drive has seen very heavy use from running [email protected], but it's not even a year old. I've checked all the USB ports to make certain they're not shorted, and I've tried resetting the system by removing the battery and powering it up 10x and then holding the power button on for 30 seconds. Anything else to try?

I have a B590 that came with Windows 7 Pro. I have been trying to get it to boot from USB and nothing seems to work.
I have the settings in the Bios at,
Under Boot Tab
Change Boot mode to Legacy
USB Boot should be enabled
Under Security
Secure Boot is disabled
and I set USB at first boot device.

As soon as I save and exit from Bios, it boots Windows.
I reboot and use F12 and click USB and it boots to Windows.
I have tried a Data Traveler and a Patriot Slate.
I have made them bootable in diskpart and tried FAT and FAT32.

Does anyone have any knowledge about this? I asked this in Lenovo forum, but I figure you guys are smarter.

A:Lenovo B590 wont boot from usb

Hello philetus now this begs the question what is on that USB stick? If it some form of Windows 7 media I am wondering how you managed to get it on a stick and also have you updated the USB drivers.

I am also concerned that you have been into the BIOS and changed it around like that not that I am any great expert on what should be changed, but I do know I had to change a few of the EUFI settings on my Asus ROG to get it to boot 7 which included changing the BIOS to the latest version before I could install 7 drivers.

Hello, I need any help I can get.  I we hvae a Lenovo IdeaPad that suddenly wont boot up.  Was told there was a pop up warning about a battery that needed replaced, but unclear on WHICH battery.  When power button is pressed, the fan starts, runs for 3 seconds and shuts off.  The touchkey lights all light for a second then go out, except fo the volume touchkey.  No sound of spin up on HDD, no flicker on screen.  Have removed battery and tried to start on cord, with same result.  Cord tested good, with a clean 20.6 V  Have heard that dead/faulty CMOS battery can stop some laptops from starting, but unclear on where it is, or even a real possibility.

A:Lenovo IdeaPad z565 wont boot

I have heard that same rumour about the CMOS battery, but I've never seen a real live case, so I'm not so sure that it is true.
Your symptoms are indicative of a blown motherboard, but there is one more thing to try before concluding that.
Unplug the machine, remove the battery, then hold the power button depressed for at least 30 seconds, longer if your finger can stand it.
Then plug in and try to boot up.

I've just bought this laptop, and it came with windows 8 preinstalled, and I'm trying to install Windows 7 on it.

I have a bootable usb, which I've used many times to install Windows on my other laptops, but the B590 just wont do it. I feel like I've tried everything. I changed the boot priority order in BIOS with USB HDD as number 1 but it still just boots into windows 8.

I've tried removing everything but USB devices from the boot order, and now I get this boot menu:

Which is exactly what I want to boot from, but when I press enter to boot from the USB device, nothing happens. It's incredibly frustrating.

The USB device IS bootable with a primary partition. I've used these steps to make it bootable in DISKPART:

After having no luck on the B590, I tried booting on the USB on a different computer, and it works perfectly well. Starts installing windows 7. So it seems like the problem is not with my usb device.

I even tried restoring the USB drive and using Lenovo Bootable Generator application to make the usb bootable, with the same result.

Can anyone help?

Ok, so, about a year ago I bought for my GF's birthday a G400s, and oh boy, if I knew it would be one of my worst purchases ever made, I swear to the seven heavens that I would just give the money to the charity... So the problems started with the Samsung HDD that came with the notebook, it stopped working in 3 months after the purchase, then after a long battle with Lenovo Brazil (witch by the way, is one of the worse company that I had the displeasure of ever getting to speak with their Customer support), I gave up and bought a new HDD and changed it by myself. Then again, the notebook made a favor of frying the HDD... Then after that I changed again, and guess what? The notebook won't boot up again!!!

I couple days ago I alowed my idea pad to update windows 8. The next time I launched it I got to the desktop but then the screen would flash on and off forever. I downloaded the program to update the drivers because I assumed it was the drivers. After only being able to do anything in safe mode I booted it up but I couldn't get the drivers program onto the computer because safe mode doesn't let you do alot.  I then decided to just do a reset within the windows recovery program. I pressed save personal documents and reset. Now when I turn on my idea pad it just shows a black screen with the loading circle spinning forever

So I have a Lenovo laptop that untill a few days ago was working just fine. It was a little slow but nothing to worry about. Now i cant even start up windows normally. When I try and start up in normal mode it just gives me a black screen with a courser. A friend of mine had me download Hamatchi and I was stupid enough to just accept everything... -_- and my computer didn't like it.
A few thing that I know that I have on my computer are tubedimmer and scorpion server saver and a whole lot of PUP.conduit stuff. I know that they are bad for my computer and I had taken measures in my own hands before I came across this forum.  I ran Microsoft  Security Essentials and Malwearbytes and Malwearbytes turned up with all of the PUP.conduit things and MSE came up clean.
I have CCleaner but have yet to run that as I don't think that an of these are going to work to well when I can only run them in safe mode. :/
If there is anything you want me to do or any suggestions for me on where to start I would love to hear them.
P.S I work at bestbuy and a few of my coworkers told me that Im kind of screwed and that I would have to reformat or wipe my whole computer and install everything over again....that would be my last resort if I have to.

A:Lenovo Comp wont boot in normal mode

Hi -
Do you mean Hamachi ?? Rather than Hamatchi ??
In Safe Mode only you will have problems - Try for Safe Mode with Networking -
First -
Download Security Check by Screen317 from HERE
* Save it to your Desktop.
* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.Note: If a security program requests permission to access the Internet, allow it to do so.
Next -
Download MiniToolBox, Save it to your desktop and run it.
Close any Firefox browsers you may have open
Checkmark the following boxes:
•Flush DNS
•Report IE Proxy Settings
•Reset IE Proxy Settings
•Report FF Proxy Settings
•Reset FF Proxy Settings
•List content of Hosts
•List IP configuration
•List last 10 Event Viewer log
•List Installed Programs
•List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
•List Minidump Files
Click Go and copy / paste the result (Result.txt).
Next try this as it will run in Safe Mode -
Please download Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your desktop.
There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

Hi nikar15 ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Would you have the machine number? Check on the machine number from the sticker or check it from here ,just keep your serial number confidential.
Was it previously on Win8.1 ? Did you manage to create a recovery media ?
It would have to power drain the machine by removing the charger , battery and harddrive and to press and hold down the power for 12 seconds.
Without the harddrive and battery , try going to the BIOS by FN + F2 or use the Novo button to start. If you manage to get the BIOS set up screen , go to the Exit Tab and load optimal defaults and save and exit. Turn off and put back the battery and harddrive and check.
Update us how things go.

I'm guessing it's not but if it's still under warranty send it for repair.

Is the screen completely blank all the time, no text or anything else is displayed at all ?

Shine a light onto the screen and check if there is a faint display of text etc.

Hello there,
It seems like you did not perform a clean installation of Windows and that's why your system is acting up.
Follow the steps below to install a new copy of Windows:
1. To format your hard disk during Windows 7 installation you will need to start or boot your computer using the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive. Insert your Windows 7 disc in your CD/DVD drive. Please note: will need to restart or turn on your system with the disc in the drive.
2. After turning on your system with the CD in the drive go ahead and press any key when prompted during your computer post routine and then follow the instructions presented on screen. If you don’t see this go back to step 1 to setup your BIOS to boot from CD or USB flash drive depending on your installation media.
3. On the Install Windows page simply enter your preferences and click next.
4. Accept the Windows license agreement.
5. On the “Which type of installation do you want” page go ahead and choose the “Custom” option.
6. Select Drive options (advanced) on the “Where do you want to install Windows” page.
7.  Select the partition that you want to change, choose the formatting option you want to perform and then follow the instructions.
When allocating space choosing the default MB size for your drive is typically the best for most users since you want to take full advantage of all your disk... Read more

I just had to chime in here.  I just spent the last 5 days fighting this with a Lenovo U530 Ultrabook Ideapad. I could not even get the machine to boot to a bootable Windows 10 USB stick or a bootable Windows PE USB that had some drive recovery software on it.  Although it would boot to the Lenovo Diagnostics that I downloaded from Lenovo on a USB stick and it would also boot to Tails (Linux distro) on a USB stick. I know the machine was crashing because when it would get stuck, I would try to push the Caps Lock on and off and the light didn't change.  During boot kept pushing the Caps Lock it would toggle then freeze after a few seconds. I took the hard drive out and put it in another Lenovo U530 I had at my disposal and it worked fine so I know that the hard drive was working.  The hard drive seemed to be in  some state of a patial update to Windows 10 so that probably caused the initial problem. I was trying to figure out how to flash the BIOS since I though maybe it had been corrupted somehow but wasn't figuring out how to get that done without being in Windows.  The BIOS flash from Lenovo seemed to be dependent on some .NET framework.  Anyway I ran across a video where a guy explained that he had a Lenovo that was acting similar so he opened it up and unplugged the battery and plugged it back in and it fixed it. I was skeptical but figured I hadn't anything to lose and voila it worked.... unbeivable... Here... I'm attempting to boot to a Win7 DVD, but in BIOS I'm unable to set the boot priority to any type of optical drive. The BIOS boot devices menu is the same. I know I can use the USB tool, but that also didn't work. Is there any Lenovo BIOS patch I can apply, or an alternate solution to be able to boot to the optical drive?

Go to Solution.

A:Booting up from the optical drive on a Lenovo H430

Hi, On the Lenovo H505s you have to change a few options in the BIOS to install Windows 7 which requires booting from the optical drive. It's probably the same in the H430 Restart the computer at the white Lenovo (BIOS) screen, hit F1 to enter the BIOSGo to Security tabGo to Secure BootDisable Secure BootReset to setup modehit Yes to "Do you really wish to reset platform to setup mode?" Change the boot options to look for USB devices if you are installing from a flash drive, or make the DVD drive the first boot device. (Select SATA dev 1 not the DVD drive or whatever it's called and hit the - key) Go to the EXIT tabDisable OS Optimized DefaultsSave and Exit. That's now I did it on the H505s, not to sure what impact that has on the OEM installation of Win 8, probably destroys it, so be aware you might not be able to go back after. -Cheers

Is it possible to replace the optical drive with a 1TB HDD. I'm sure I read this was possible when I purchased the laptop but now I can only find references to replacing the optical drive with an additional battery. I already have the 1TB HDD so it would be ideal to expand the storage on my V510. Thanks.

Hi, I've recently bought online a Lenovo IdeaPad 520-15IKB, i7-8550U Kaby Lake R, 15.6" Full HD, IPS, 4 GB, 2 TB HDD, nVIDIA GeForce MX150 4GB. Apparently, the laptop has no optical drive installed (see attached image below), despite the images on the website which showed an optical drive on the right side. I'd like to know if I can use any of the optical drives listed on the parts lookup page to install to this laptop. If yes, do I need a caddy to hold the optical drive? Thanks,Gabriel

I do not have a Lenovo -machine or mouse. It is a Logitech usb mouse M325
I knew I did not have anything Lenovo but there it was waiting to be installed.

The choice to upgrade drivers is turned on
Meanwhile my mouse went into poor response while in Adobe Lightroom which prompted me to investigate the logs.
Although it downloaded and installed the CBS.log indicates it didn't install. Searching results in no Lenovo. The name just remains in the list of updates installed.
I downloaded the current Logitech setpoint update 6.7 and the mouse returned to normal.
The questions are
.....Turn off upgrade drivers (and hope it sticks)?
.....how would this update download be refused?
.....If this record is in the list of installed updates will it encourage future inaccurate device info downloads?

Ive needed a new mouse for a while (to replace my dell logitech trackball) so bought a cheapy optical one off ebay. I plugged it in, the light came on, but no movement on screen. I figured ok, it was cheap and you get what you pay for, so i went to pc world and bought a basic trust branded optical mouse. Again, i plugged it in, the light came on and it didnt work. I have since tried both an another pc and they work fine. Can anyone help? here is what i have tried so far (im using Windows XP, 3gb ram)

1. unplugged old mouse, rebooted pc several times with new mouse plugged in. didnt work
2. just straight switched the mice over whilst in XP. I have also had them both plugged in at the same time. no luck here
3. Gone into device manager and uninstalled all HID devices shown. the current optical mice install 2 drivers here - 'HID Compliant device' and 'USB Human interface device'. I have also uninstalled the 'Logitech USB mouseman wheel' driver. No luck here, BUT, whats interesting here, is that when i plug the new mice in, and XP auto installs the drivers, the mice work for about a second or so, whilst the driver is installing. Then when the message saying the hardware was installed successfully, it stops working
4. Tried disabling the logitech mouse from the device manager, and then plugging in the new optical one, but still no luck.

Im an experienced pc user and 99% of the time can solve PC issues, but this one has me completely stumped. An... Read more
