Internet Explorer Crashing on Startup. Windows 10 LTSB 2016- How to Enable Logging?

Q: Internet Explorer Crashing on Startup. Windows 10 LTSB 2016- How to Enable Logging?

I'm working with Windows 10 LTSB 2016
The issue I'm having is the IE keeps crashing at startup. IE will go to not responding and will ultimately exit with no errors in the application event log. I cannot get it to open a single time.

I'm interested in how to enable logging to see if I can figure out what the issue it. So far we have tried starting IE safe mode and it didn't help.

Preferred Solution: Internet Explorer Crashing on Startup. Windows 10 LTSB 2016- How to Enable Logging?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Please see the title - two parts, but this is my only question.   I do not need help resetting IE, or troubleshooting IE - I want to enable IE event logging, and I am looking for a step by step guide to doing this.  It seems as though I have
it enabled, but the log has zero entries.

This thread has the same question, and some genius marked it answered, although it should be pretty obvious to anyone with the ability to read and comprehend written English language that the question was not answered, and in fact, the person who asked the
question was completely ignored after the initial answer (which I do not for a minute believe was even close to the right answer):  https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/ie/en-US/bfecbfd3-ffc8-4279-a006-64a1cd248621/can-we-get-windows-event-logging-with-internet-explorer-10-and-windows-8?forum=ieitprocurrentver
If you look, you will see that the log exists in Windows 10, and at least on the machine I am on, the properties say enabled (although that is greyed out and cannot be altered).    The way I see it there are a couple of possibilities here:
1)  Logging is a relic that doesn't actually work and for whatever reason was never removed from the code tree.
2)  Logging is not enabled despite what the properties sheet says.
3)  Logging is enabled, but I have no way to verify it because it will not log any events.

A:How do you enable event logging for Internet Explorer in Windows 10, and how can I verify that it is enabled?

Hi Harry,
Please see the Event Viewer How to documentation here -
https://technet.microsoft.com/library/cc749408.aspx
To use event viewer you need to have a pro or enterprise edition of windows and an administrators account on your computer. If you are using a work computer consult with your company's IT staff.
Start>Control Panel>Administrative tools>Event Viewer
then
Windows logs>Appliction
will list any iexplore.exe application error logs.... I think it depends on your computer settings for sending feedback to Microsoft, whether or not error logs are automatically generated and sent back to Microsoft.
If you have no entries in that list for IE then it has not had any application errors. There also should be listings for other programs there apart from IE....
For help with using Event Viewer please see the documentation link above.
Regards.

And now I have a watermark on the most right bottom side of the screen that says: "Windows License valid for 90 days".
What that means? Why did I get this watermark? Will Windows become invalid, locked and unusable in 90 days? If yes then why? I got it for free. What should I do to remove this watermark and make sure that I have this Windows forever?

A:I have just installed Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB Evaluation

Uhh...gee...Erez: think about what evaluation means. Try it for a while and if you like it, BUY a real copy. When the timeline runs out, you may be able to rearm (restart the 90-day clock) as many as three more times. But after that, you must uninstall, then reinstall to start another evaluation. It's illegal to convert an evaluation copy into a permanent copy, because it violates Microsoft's licensing terms. 'Nuff said.

Hi, i am new at this, so bear with me lol

We have just moved our XP computer into the living room, and connected it to a 58kb dial-up connection. We installed AVG 8 and everything was running fine

Now we've installed Windows Live OneCare Family safety on the machine so we can monitor my borther and sisters internet usage.

Now, the computer runs extremely slowely, Windows Explorer continually crashes, meaning we have great difficulty opening My Documents, and My Computer or anything that requires Explorer to open

As well as this, now the internet is majorly slow... even for bloomin dial-up, we used to get at least 9kbps, but now its shot down to between 2.5 and 1.5 kbps

AVG is now continuously scanning... even outside of scheduled scans, and constantly wants to update :S

And finally, i have now noticed that small files i dont use very frequently have begun to dissapear from the system!!! music files, images, word docs etc.

We have tried defragging it, scandisk, using AdAware SE Personal 2005, AVG Scans, and they all come up with negligeable results.

As well as this, now the pc wont install files for Trend Micro Online scans to run... so we cant even work it out that way :S

I have a suspicion this could be something to do with OneCare, or Multiple Viruses in the system that have somehow hidden themselves from AVG

PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

Hey guys, one of my friends is currently expirencing issues with their HP desktop computer. It's a "HP Compaq" I can't list any of the specs or anything of that nature because of the issue that we are encountering.

The issue is that when I start the computer up Windows explorer immediately crashes, a black "wallpaper" is all that can be seen along with a window that reads, "Windows explorer has stopped working." Giving me the options to close the program or check for a solution online. I can't connect to the internet because of the explorer not working.

When I open CTRL+ALT+DEL I can open the task manager, etc. If I try to run explorer.exe I just get the same window.

Here's the problem details:

Program Signature: Problem Even Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: Explorer.exe
application version: 6.1.7601.1756

If I need to write out the rest of it I gladly will, it's a long list.

I started windows in safe mode and the explorer does indeed start - but not while starting normally. While in safe mode I did do a virus/malaware scan and it found nothing.

Hi. I am using Windows XP Pro SP3. I googled for some theme modifications and came up to downloading a software called CustoPack Tools. I've downloaded and installed their provided themes and it worked out just fine. But when suddenly when I rebooted my machine, the "Restore Active Desktop" error occured, repeatedly. It's like my desktop was there for a second, and then the next second, it was gone and the "Restore Active Desktop" error was there again, and so on. My Start Menu and Taskbar was acting the same manner, and I can't even explore My Computer, Control Panel and My Documents. When I click My Computer, it will run but after a second, it will close. So as My Documents and Control Panel. I've googled for solutions and knew that there was something wrong about explorer.exe. I checked Task Manager --> Processes to check that explorer.exe was there. It is there, but it disappears repeatedly. It's like, it is running, then suddenly crashes, and then runs again, and then crashes and then runs again. I terminate that process. My wallpaper was there but not my icons, taskbar and Start Menu. When I rerun it, it goes back to the same situation. I have a suspicion that the DLL modifications of the themes I've installed was responsible for this. But I don't have any proof for that. I've tried many solutions given at many forums I visited but none of them worked. I was wondering if I should perform a repair install of my OS, or full installation of it. But m... Read more

Have you tried restoring your computer to a earlier date ( before the CustoPack Tools install). You can also try SFC /scannow from the cmd prompt, however if the computer doesn't have a restore partition, or the i386 folder from a XP CD you will need to replace the CD Drive first.

This started happening three days ago, and happens about once every day, and now, once every few hours.

After a certain amount of time, many programs will suddenly freeze, crash, fail to show a window, etc. For example, explorer.exe will become nonresponsive, internet explorer will crash, and when restarted, will lock up and become nonresponsive, windows media player will not produce a window (although wmplayer.exe is launched), and system restore will not display a window (although rstrui.exe is launched). Before the first occurrence, the programs work fine; however, after they experience that problem once, they continue to experience the problem. Also, they seem to be somehow linked; for example, if internet explorer crashes and fails to display windows properly/becomes nonresponsive, trying to use Windows media player later will not work either. I should also note that nothing is hogging the CPU during this time. However, some programs are completely unaffected. For example, Firefox 3.5.5 works completely fine, Office 2007 works fine, Process explorer works fine, along with most of my non-Windows programs. What I’m starting to guess is that there is some problem with my graphics related to parts of the operating system and programs close to it, but I’m not sure.

Most of the time, simply restarting the computer doesn’t solve the problem. I system restore to provide a temporary fix by going into Safe Mode and starting system restore from there... Read more

Hi,

Based on the log, it seems that the issue is related to EasyRedirect64.dll.

I have searched it in a 64-bit Windows 8 Enterprise RTM machine, however, it does not exist.

Therefore, I suspect that it might come with a third-party application. If so, please temporary disable or uninstall the application and see how it works.

Also, please right click EasyRedirect64.dll and choose Properties, provide us a screenshot of the Details Tab.

Hope this helps.

On Windows 8 machines and up, when I enable DNS Client Event logging through the event viewer (The log named Microsoft-Windows-DNS Client Events/Operational), the log quickly fills up with many events.

However, when I turn on that logging service on Windows 7 machines - it only logs a small percentage of event IDs that Windows 8 and 10 log.

For example - Event ID 3008 - which means that a DNS request for a particular domain has finished processing - does not seem to appear at all in windows 7, but is frequently seen in the DNS Client event logs for windows 8.

My windows 7 machines are all up to date on Windows updates, if that makes a difference.

My question is this - is there a way to turn on Windows 8+ style logging for DNS Client events on Windows 7 machines? Could it be as simple as modifying a registry value? Is there another way to get DNS Client resolution information on Windows 7 machines?

Thank you very much in advance

Hi Guys,

Semi proud owner of a Samsung NC110 netbook, running windows seven starter, 8 months old. I noted that every single time I was trying to open a file windows explorer was crashing, so I restarted and installed updates that I had been putting off for about a week now. I then noticed, the reboot was ridiculously slow, and then windows wireless service was apparently broken, despite it running fine 5 minutes ago and still windows explorer crashed every single time I tried to open anything. I can run it in safe mode and normal, and open programs that don't use windows

I've tried running CHKDSK to no avail and well without internet on it I'm fresh out of ideas. Oh and because I was super smart, I don't have any antivirus on there....

On the upside, as it's a netbook I've used it for internet browsing so I don't have anything precious saved on there, wiped harddrive wouldn't be the end of the world.

And if it's any further help it did fall off a table onto the floor about a day ago. Oops.

Many thanks in advance :)

So I just built this computer. It has been done for a little under a week now. I am relatively new to doing this kind of thing and I have been having this problem since the computer was finished. The problem I am having is that windows media player and internet explorer are crashing. I am running windows vista so it will pop up the little fix it messages when things like this happen. The fix it message reads...

Download latest version of NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller

This problem was caused by NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller, which was created by NVidia.

A newer version of this product is available that might solve this problem.

I have downloaded this and installed it but the problem continues to persist. The motherboard I am using is a NVIDIA NForce 780i SLI, as I said before I am running vista 64 bit, video card is a GeForce 9800 GTX, the processor is and Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 2.66GHz, and I have a 500gb sata hard drive.

I would greatly appreciate any help/advice that anyone has to give. This problem is really driving me nuts

A:Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player crashing...

Can no one help me? Would anyone maybe know any other reason something like this would be happening besides there being an issue with that driver? I have noticed those little fix it windows can sometimes be wrong. I was having an issue with Internet Explorer a while back and it was telling me it was because I didnt have a program for "smart web printing" installed. I wasnt even doing anything with printing... So I know that it can be wrong so maybe it is wrong now. I dont know where else to go though or what else may be able to cause something like this to happen...
I would really appreciate any feedback anyone has. Even if its just a thought. Anything helps!! :)

Would you be so kind as to point me in the right direction as this issue is present on both desktops running this program?

We handle all issues in threads so others can contribute and learn. This works out in your interest because chances are someone else has seen this issue and knows the solution. So be sure to title the thread very descriptively, perhaps with the DLL error + can't open IE. I'd put it in General forum.

I'll answer in your thread. Meanwhile run a full scan with Malwarebytes,
in Safe Mode if necessary installing it via flash stick if you can't download it on that PC. Then run SFC /SCANNOW Command if necessary SFC /SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot.

Report the results of these in the thread, so we can keep all help there to help others and get you the best help.

I was running windows vista and avg free and kept getting Internet explorer crashes. I eventually had to start explorer with no addons to get it to work. I went through isolating IE addons and found an avg free add to Internet explorer that was avg search to enable scanning of search engine entries for viruses. Disabling this avg add on allowed Internet explorer to work again. There may be a workaround involving permissions and authorities but until I find it I run with this feature of avg disabled. If you are experiencing Internet explorer crashes with avg and vista you may want to try disabling this addon to explorer first i spent a couple hours isolating the troublemaker.

1. First received the message on the computer from MS informing that we had an error - went to view details it said that we had a Error 1033. I went and pushed the button to get MS to fix this issue - but continually receive the message that I have the same problem.

2. The time that I rebooted - I noticed in place of the CPU gadgets that i have on my desktop that all MS gadgets had crashed. Again a fix did not work.

3. Internet Explorer is not working and the tabs keep crashing.

I did go onto the MS webpage and ran SFC and posting the pics from the results. I am unsure as to what other information or where to go to try and fix this issue.

I have tried everything prior to posting. I am not sure if any snips from Event Viewer may assist.

Thank you

A:BSOD Error 1033 - Internet Explorer crashing - Gadgets crashing

Run this in cmd: findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt
And attach the sfcdetails.txt here

For BSOD, we have an entire section for it.

and tried everything and checked everything and all of the settings are how they should be so I really don't know what to try now and it is really irritating me, especially facebook as I need to use the code generator every single time I want to go on it.
I would really appreciate any help or advice that you could give me. Thanks.

I would greatly appreciate any help you could provide. I am running Windows XP - SP3. The system has slowed a lot and Internet Explorer keeps opening multiple windows on it's own. I receive a message at startup on a black screen " Invalid boot.ini" It continues to say it is booting from and it flashes off the screen before I can read it. I ran DDS and have included the two files it produced. When I attempt to run Gmer my system, or the program itself, locks up. After clicking on the GMER.exe file, it loads and then automatically begins a scan of /system then becomes "unresponsive". Once I got the blue screen after running GMER, and it read "STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000) The system has been shut down. A:Problems Logging In On Internet Explorer

Hi mdoggy39,You should try clearing your cache, cookies and temp files to start with to make sure it isn't something simple.* Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tabClick the "Delete Cookies" buttonNext to it, Click the "Delete Files" buttonWhen prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):Go to Tools > Options.Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.Press OK to remove them.If that doesn't work, please post more detail on the problem. Do you get an error message? Does it happen on the same sites?

I suggest you post your hijack log on the forum, and identify the processes that are running.

In the meantime, try booting your computer in safe mode and attempt to remove the entries from your registry, but remember to back it up beforehand.

NOD32 may not pick up the newer viruses - there are other anti virus products on the market you could use as well.

A:Explorer crashing on startup

Hi and welcome to TSF.

Apologies for any delay in replying, but we have been rather busy lately, and, of course, all our helpers are volunteers.

You may wish to Subscribe to this thread (Thread Tools > Subscribe to this thread) so that you are notified when you receive a reply.

Please read these instructions carefully and then print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the fix. You should not have any open browsers or live internet connections when you are following the procedures below.

Note that the fix may take several posts. Please continue to respond to my instructions until I confirm that your log is clean. Remember that although your symptoms may vanish, this does NOT mean that your system is clean.

If there is anything you don't understand, please ask BEFORE proceeding with the fixes.

Combofix
Download ComboFix and save it to your desktop.

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the log "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.

Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Hey guys, I've just started having a problem with my desktop computer in the last couple of days. When I turn it on, it seems to load properly, but explorer.exe crashes, leaving me with a black screen. I was able to restore a previous version fine, but as soon as my computer went to sleep/shut down, the problem returned. The computer starts fine in safemode.

So far I have tried

Clean Boot
sfc/scannow
Checked my shell in the winlogon in Registry Editor
Scanned for viruses

So far, the problem persists. I can't think of any recent changes/installs that would have been the cause? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

(I don't know the what type of infection this is so I did not post it in the title)About two days ago I was browsing the internet specifically on the worldofwarcraft forums.Someone had posted a link about an amusing picture so I clicked it and I got a lot of pop ups. Not thinking much of it I went on browsing and doing my own thing after closing the pop ups.Later on in the day I restarted my computer and when it came back up I noticed when I logged in my explorer.exe kept refreshing itself as though I was logging into my account constantly. This happened about 5 times every 15 seconds until it just disappeared.I was able to access the internet and programs through the task manager but that is about it.I googled the issue I was having because I assumed it was some sort of spyware. I ran programs such as Super Antispyware, Adaware and Spybot but the situation was still present.I later came across a program called combofix where someone had used this and was able to fix their problem. After running it and after it deleted some items it restarted and now made the situation worse.Everytime I log on explorer.exe completely crashes and gives me the Windows error box with the options to send the report or ignore it.If I try to open it through task manager it still ends up crashing with the same Windows error.I read more about combofix and it stated to post the results on a forum such as this by copy and pasting the log file in my C: which sadly I can't find at all.I was also planning... Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. ok.
so i had a virus.. and then got rid of it (as far as i know)

before i scanned and found the virus what started happening was i would start up my computer and i would get a popup saying "svchost.exe - Application error" then it would say something about there was a problem at 0xrandom numbersxblahhxblah something like that. (ex 0x3234x321 but those arent the numbers it said). and it asked if u wanted to terminate the program or cancel.

then when i would try to type in the address bar for internet explorer, or windows explorer for that matter, there would be an error and it would close the program.

besides all that nothing on my start menu seemed to work.

i scanned, found the virus, and got rid of it. the virus was in the startup folder in my computer, and was called win32.exe, but had no icon or anything. there was also a "Windows SK SP" or something there which seemed foreign to me so i deleted it as well.
i had to delete in safe mode too, it wouldnt let me in normal conditions.
i restarted normally and the start menu was working, but my computers still a lil sick.

well now when i scan for the virus its not there anymore, but the problems with the startup and the explorer still remain.

any help?

A:Problem with startup/ Internet and windows explorer

Just going and deleting things because they do not look right is actually bad practice and can do more harm than good.

I would like you to run a HijackThis and post it here and let a certified tech here diagnose it for you they are the people with the little gold shield to the right of their names and the only ones that are allowed to do this.

To download HJTsetup.exe To Download HijackThis go to the following: http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item5
Filename = 1137518044HJTsetup.exe

Save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\HijackThis.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialog boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialog.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialog box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
At the top of the Notepad HJT log screen, hit Edit then Select All then click Edit and then click Copy doing that copies the text to the clipboard, you won't see it yet....
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply. DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I am getting the following error message when I begin to logon to the internet with Internet Explorer 5.0.:

[This browser window (or Active X control in this page) is busy. Closing the window may cause some problems. Do you want to close anyway?]

I am not able to log on to the Internet at this point. I will then try to close out the error message and then this error message will pop-up:

[This problem has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.]

I have tried the following troubleshooting steps. I obtained these steps from the www.support.microsoft.com site entitled "How To Disable Active Content in Internet Explorer."

1. Confirgured Internet Explorer so that it does not run Active scripts automatically.
2.Configured Interent Explorer so that it does not automatically use items that show active content, such as vertical marquees or animations.
3. Verified that Internet Explorer's internal Java Just-In-Time (JIT) compiler is disabled.
4. Configured Internet Explorer so that it does not run Java programs automatically.

After performing these steps, I am still getting my error messages mentioned. I need help.... Thank you!
