IE8 + Firefox, delay of approx 5 seconds after click link since malware attack

Q: IE8 + Firefox, delay of approx 5 seconds after click link since malware attack

On the weekend I had a very surprising crazy malware/virus/trojan attack, I was sitting there speaking on Skype and then 3 different malware aps popped up on the screen, the task manager was locked, safe mode didnt work, my browsers were hijacked and covered in toolbars and I couldn't visit any sites, etc etc.
I thought AVG + AdAware would have protected me against this stuff but obviously not.
Anyway, I installed Malware Bytes, Spybot and ZoneAlarm, and with all this stuff installed and after about 50 reboots my system was clean and back to normal.

However, since then, whenever I search for something in google, and then click a link, it says Connecting to server <www.whatever.co.uk> (the link I followed) and then stops on a white page with no content, the status bar says Done.
I wait 5 seconds, then it starts loading again, and 80% of the time will then display the page, so it's annoying but I can at least still use the net. Though the other 20% of the time I don't ever get to the page, instead I get a piece of broken script code of some sort, and in this code it always references http 23.meningre.com . I've googled meningre and there is NOTHING about this, I would've thought at least one other person would be experiencing this.

Anyway things I've checked: HOSTS file looks ok, internet connection settings doesn't specify a proxy or DNS servers. no weird processes running. ran hijack this - looks clean

any other suggestions?
thanks

PS. im on windows 7, not that it should make a difference

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I input something with my keyboard, the touchpad/trackpoint doesn't accept any clicking for about ~0.5 seconds. Its a small delay but it is driving me insane. T460 laptop, Synaptics Clickpad V1.1 Things I've tried:-  Reinstalling drivers, and restarting laptop. Nothing changed.-  Turned palm rejection to minimum. This fixes an earlier problem where the mouse would stop moving with keyboard presses, but it doesn't affect the clicking delay.-  Went into the registry editor, found 'synaptics' under 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE' but couldn't find any variables that indicate a delay after keyboard presses. I'd really appreciate any help with this. ~3 hours of googling isn't helping me. Thanks in advance.

So I somehow caught the dreaded Search engine link Redirect. Most links will redirect to ad sites or random ad sites will pop up while browsing the web. I also have been getting Script Debugging warnings, not sure if that's related. AVG, Avast, SuperAntiSpyware, and HiJack this all came up clean without resolving the problem. I browsed some similar posts and ran a few tests with AVZ and DDR as per the instructions. From there I have no idea where to go. I will attach the logs. Thanks in advance to anyone who spends time to help me.

Recently my T410 has been overheating and shuttind down after a few hours of browser usage. I believed this was due to a heating problem so I finally got under the keyboard today only to find little to no dust or debris clogging up the heatsink fan. Just to be safe I hit it with the compressed air again. After reassembling, the laptop now shutdown after a short period of being powered on. This shutdown happens regardless of me getting into windows loading or getting into the BIOS setup. I think this too may be an overheating problem, as I see and hear the fan spinning up harder before the sudden shutdown.  I've tried everything from running with only the AC in, only one ram card in, holding the power button for 30 seconds prior to actually powering up, etc. Is there any more troubleshooting I should preform, or should I just accept the fact I'm better off handing this to a repair professional.  Side note: After reassemble I had 3 screws that didn't fit anywhere on the exterior casing, maybe I mistook a screw placement and now it's somehow short circuiting?

It is really disappointing that this monitor started having problems when it was less than 2 years old.  Anyway, here is the issue.  Monitor will turn off every time after approx 3-5 seconds.  I tried connections, running the built in trouble shooting.  I tried hooking it up to a PC, and also a PS3 and same thing happens.  It is not under any warranty.  Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have a feeling it just needs to be sent to the recycler.  Very sad for something to fail this quickly.  Thanks

A short summary of what happens:Ex: I search for something on Google. I see results. I click on one of the results. Instead of the actual webpage www.somewebpage.com/etcetc, I get "http://link-box.com/search.php" or some other random sites/ads. The actual content itself is blocked via noscript, so all I see is http://tru01dms3.com/VKr0RIhx6C5JHmu22a47a...12cce89233cd18Z on the page.Sometimes tabs will open by themselves, but for the most part, it's the result of clicking on something. What I've done so far:I've run full system scans with avast, Super Antispyware, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Spybot S&D. I haven't run Lavasoft Ad-aware because it's been iffy since 2007 in terms of running smoothly. Nothing else I'm using is turning up anything, so I'm thinking it's time to pull out the big guns, via any help I can get from you guys through either ComboFix or HijackThis log analysis. Is there anything else I can do?One last note, I think it's only limited to Firefox, but I'm not positive. I don't really use IE very often, so I can't say whether or not for certain it's only limited to FF.One more thing. Evidently a forum I was on had some issues with infected scripts or something. At the time I didn't have the noscript extension running, so alas I think something found its way onto my computer. Somebody made a comment about some javascript thing, but I'm not sure.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Oh, ... Read more

A drive-by malware attack happened today on my pc screen. I was visiting a news website(Guardian), and all of the sudden got a Firefox update screen saying "critical update". And there was a file that automatically popped up on my screen to be downloaded. I did not download it and my MSE notified me about the attack, and that I don't have to do anything on my part. I checked the quarantine, and it said Trojan 32 Kovter.  I removed that from quarantine. Then, I ran rKill, which didn't find anything. Then, I ran Malwarebytes, which didn't find anything, as well. It appears that there is no malware on my pc, but I just wanted to make sure that it is the case. Also, I deleted my history/downloads/cache for the past 1 hour prior to that, so the bad file/anything else is gone. I didn't write down the redirected website's URL, however, it was something weird(not firefox).

I am running Vista Enterprise 64-bit. One thing to note is that about 1 hour prior to the event described above, one of my family members was using another pc, and clicked on a phishing link. The site was blocked by Firefox and we navigated from it using "Get me out of here" button, but perhaps the damage was done by that time. Maybe my pc has this problem because of the other pc incident(network hacked?) I ran a Malwarebytes scan on that pc as well, which didn't find any infections. This second pc is using Vista Business SP2 32-bit.

Any help would be appreciated.

hi,

Dont see much to worry about in the log other than some clean up.Looks like you just hit a semi-malicious web page or web page ad that tried to install something. The phishing attempt earlier was a coincidence not related.

So we will use FRST to remove some things. You can copy/paste whats below into notepad and save it as fixlist.txt in the same location that you have FRST. Start FRST like before except this time click on the Fix button once. Machine may reboot to finish. Upon reboot it will display a fixlog.txt that you can copy/paste in your reply.

When I right click a file to open the context menu, or when I click a file to open it, there is sometimes (about 50% of the time) a 20-30 second delay in opening the menu or the program to view the file. This does not happen all fo the time, sometimes i does work instantly. The problem does not seem to affect folders at all. I have tested the open file problem with a very small text document. About half of the time, it opens instantly and the other half there is that 30 second delay.

The first thing I tried to do was disabling ALL Non-Microsoft shell extensions using ShellExView. This did not help at all. I then checked "netstat -a" while the problem was occurring. All of the listed connections were either to my local PC or to my ISP. I did try disabling my NIC and while the problem did not go away, the delay was reduced to about 5-8 seconds when it occurred instead of the usual 20-30 seconds. So I searched the registry for other computers/shares I have connected to in the past and removed any references to anything that was no longer available. The problem still persisted. Finally I ran a Windows Repair and yet the problem persists.

Does anyone have any other idea I can try before i blow away the whole partition and reinstall from scratch? I really don't want to do that but this problem is really bugging me.

Good morning. I'm not sure if this is SP2 related or not. When I change web sites it now takes 7 seconds to open pages. Once I have gone to the site once the next time is immediate. I have deleted all files and cookies under tools in explorer. I have DSL. I'm on XP. I've run SystemWorks Win doctor, clean sweep and adaware. If I close IE and reopen and then go to the same web site it again takes 7 seconds. I noticed that when Adaware runs it scans for several seconds on "browser cache" yet when I do a search on the c drive for all cache or temp files there are none that are large. Where would the browser cache be? What else might cause this, SP2?
Thanks

I'm gaining on it. I turned off all services and everything was fine. I finally narrowed it down after several hours to Remote access auto connection manager. When it's enabled it takes 7 seconds to go to any page when it's disabled everything works fine. I'm not sure if someone is connecting me to a remote site to copy everywhere I go on the web or what. Any ideas?

OK, my beloved FireFox has been FUBAR for months now, and I'm tired of making do with Chrome.  I've tried my own research to no avail, and followed a number of similar posts in these forums, but I'm not really able to tell if those instructions apply to me.  And I've noticed that my niece's computer is having the same issue, so I'm hoping that in fixing my problem I can learn how to help her fix hers.  So I guess it's time to humbly ask for help... =\

Here are the details:
  - Windows XP Pro with SP3
  - Firefox 20.0.1
  - Roughly 50% of the time I click on Google search results, or in fact just about any link on any page, it goes somewhere else.
  - Certain pages (including the bleepingcomputer.com signup page, for which I have to enable javascript) spontaneously show in-page popup ads and sometimes redirect.
  - I am able to browse certain .html reference files on my local machine with no ill effects, presumably because they do not contain javascript.
  - Disabling JavaScript seems to completely prevent the problem.
  - It ONLY affects FireFox, not Chrome or IE.

Thinks I have tried:
  - Completely removing and reinstalling Firefox.  Did not help whatsoever.
  - Original attempts showed that Firefox settings were altered to use some external site as a proxy.  I disabled this and it seemed to fix the problem for a while, but then it came back.
  - Unintalled Java and reinstalled the lates... Read more

Background: Prior to today, my old Tivo video recorder enabled me to pause the video going into my tv set even when the Tivo recorder service was turned off via DirecTV. Today, I had to get a new DirectTV Plus recorder (a replacement) and the pause feature on the DirectTV Plus recorder will not pause the video unless I turn on the DirectTV recorder service ($72 a year I do not want to pay).

What kind of card for my computer do I need to give me the ability to pause tv video 0 - 45 seconds?

Thank you for your responses.

Hi guys, I have the following sound problem on my newly installed Windows 10. When I don't use audio on my PC, meaning not watching any videos or listening to music, let's say, reading an article - it seems that my sound card goes to sleep after a few minutes.

Then, I try to play a song in WMP for example - the first 2 seconds or so I don't hear anything, then the sound card "wakes up" or something and the audio is back with no interruptions or anything like that. I mean there is no problem with the sound itself. So, if I'm not at my computer, I don't hear any shorts sounds at all. I mean system sounds or new incoming mail sounds etc. Because by the time sound card is "awake", the sound has already ended.

I went through all possible settings in Windows, power saving modes, reinstalled drivers for my motherboard... I mean everything I could think of. Nothing helps. Does someone have a solution for this? Thank you in advance.

The sound card is built-in, on Gigabyte B85M motherboard.

Hi All

Hoping somebondy can help with an issue I have please ...

After I boot my Windows 7 (6gb RAM) SSD drive laptop, if I open anything on the desktop, there is a delay - it opens the white box (which is blank), then after a some seconds, it populates with the contents of the folder. After that, I can open anything on the desktop time and time again and it will open instantly with all the contents showing - - BUT - - if I open something else (browsing the internet for example) or working within a program OR do not click anything on the desktop for 30 SECONDS (I have timed it) the dealy happens again !!!

I open a desktop folder from the start - delay - - - open them again perfect for as long as you want - leave the mouse alone for 30 seconds and then open something - delay again ...........

I have used countless Malware, Adware and virus checkers, registry cleaners etc. Used MSCONFIG, closed all at start up and tried it but it still does it - I tired it in Safe Mode and it works perfectly ........ I have done a )poor) video on YouTube to show the fault, however, the delay is often longer than shown) -

Thanks in advance for any replies

A:Delay opening Desktop Folders if nothing is clicked for 30 seconds!!

Have you checked your RAM to ensure that you are not using it up? In short, I am asking if it is possible that you are thrashing your hard drive because you just don't have enough RAM to run the system, so what is in memory works great until it isn't used for a bit and the OS places it on the HD for retrieval later using virtual RAM. Even an SSD has a delay in read and write, it isn't RAM.

Just because you have 6GB of RAM listed doesn't mean your system is actually using it. You might have a bad stick, bad bay, or you have so much running in the background that it is full. It is possible even that the RAM itself is the cause of the delay, especially if it has a slow clock speed or is dying.

To be honest there is not enough information provided without viewing the video (I am at work, so cannot do so) to think it is anything other than a RAM issue.

edit - added statement after reviewing original posting and noticed that RAM amount was mentioned.

Hi All,

I have noticed a quite annoying delay in google chrome (Btw I just reinstalled it now).
It takes between 5 to 10 seconds (Sometimes more) for it to start loading any address i enter. For instance, entering www.bleepingcomputer.com then hitting enter, there will be an unepected wait/delay/silence for many seconds before the browser start trying to lookup and load the page.

Second observation: Navigating to a link within an already opened website loads instantly (This means that the problem only occurs when i enter new website)

Third Observation: Navigating to bleepingcomputers.com from a tab with www.yahoo.com already loaded will firstly read "waiting for y3.analytics.yahoo.com" for some seconds before starting to load the new web. While navigating to a site from a new tab will also say waiting for www.google.com before starting to load the new web.

Please help..
Thanks.

My computer give me >120 second in order for me to start using.

Startup usually may check and confirm many type of setting, etc.

For example, if you desktop is empty, it will take 10 second and you can start using.

All items on the desktop are to be verified as true, otherwise it may try to find the link.

When you insert any USB device into the USB port, the system usually take every 5 second to check if there is any change.
Hence, within 5 second, the USB device will be detected.
Then it have to check if that device did connected to USB port-2 before, it can be used immediately.
If it check as the device is never connected to the USB port-2, it then have to find the USB driver to install and saved, remembered.

Then again, for 90 seconds, it may not matter much, as just turn on the computer before, say, to take a bath first.

Hello,

I have a strange problem. I have a three computer LAN with all computers running Windows 98se. There are two computers in one room about 15 feet apart and the other in another room. All computers are running fine and see each other. However, when I right click on either the A drive or C drive on either of the two computers that are in the same room, it takes a good 1-2 minutes before the menu screen pops up. This doesn't happen on the computer in the other room. I don't know if this is a network glitch, a Windows 98 problem, or a coincidence that it is happening to two of my three computers. Can anyone help me fix this?

Hi everyone! From few days I have problem with right click of the mouse when I use it on shortcuts. The problem is that there is a delay which is between 1 to 3 seconds. It happends only shortcuts. When I use right click on other files (.exe, .jpg, etc.), on desktop or folders, the context menu appears without any delay.

The other problem is happening when I open my "Programs" folder which I created for my shortcuts. It contains 86 shortcuts and 1 app(Team Viewer). The problem is that every time when I open it it has also delay (3-6 sec). Other folders with larger content/files are opening and loading fine.

I think the both problems are related. I have tried a different methods to resolve my problems like:

- Defragmentating C:\, system files and pagefile (I use PerfectDisk)
- Deleting IconCache.db and making new Read-only
- Running PC in safe mode (it resolves the problem but only when I use the mode, when I boot in normal the problem appears again)
- Reducing the RAM usage (smaller resolution, disabling aero and effects, etc.)
- Reinstalling nVidia 260.99 WHQL drivers
- Disk clean up (also with CCleaner)
- Disabling network (saw a post on net)

None of them helped.

My PC is running fast and well, I haven't got any other problems with delays, lags etc.

I hope someone can help me with resolving this thing!

I just bought a new HP Notebook model number G60-535DX from Best Buy. I've only had it a couple of days. I am getting a huge lag/delay from the mouse click and keyboard. For example, it is taking me forever to make this post. It took me about 10 minutes just to register on this site. After I type a sentence, it takes about 30 seconds or more for the text to appear. When I type in microsoft word, it's fine. When I click on something with the mouse, it takes a long time to acknowledge what I've clicked on.

The operating system is Windows 7, Pentium dual core processor T4300 @2.10 ghz, 3 gb memory, 64 bit operating system. I am using IE 8.

Ive done a virus scan with my NOD 32 and a free scan with trendmicro-housecall and they both found nothing wrong. It has taken me about 20 minutes or so just to make this post.

When I start typing, I notice all the smilies on the right freeze up, and when my text finally appears they start moving again.

Even when I move my mouse without clicking on anything, I notice the screen freezing up.

How do I solve this?

A:unusual delay in getting drop down list on right click !

I would roll back the updates and see if the problem goes away. If so then if you want the updates you should install one by one checking the symptom each time. I know it's a drag. That's why I only put on updates that solve problems I know I have. At least until the next service pack.

Usually a problem with right click means an Explorer extension is buggy. It doesn't respond when Explorer notifies it or it responds very slowly, like looping through a whole bunch of stuff first.

Edit: Another method to track down the bad update is use ShellExView utility and disable the context menu items until the weirdness goes away. If you can narrow it down to one update then just remove that one.

Ok so I have been experiencing problems with my mouse it seems to get sluggish or lagged out when I try to left click anything. Sometimes it will not select the object I click on, other times it will select the item but not open it unless I click 4-5 times. Just clicking a link in Firefox or IE sometimes requires 2-3 clicks before recognizing it. This issue also carries over into games and applications such as World of Warcraft I will have to click my skills multiple times to get them to cast or to select a target. Also if I try to click on something to drag it or move it around it doesn't seem to hold it will let go and then randomly try to hold or select the object again so if your mouse is somewhere on a web page if you're moving the browser it may click an image or a link.

Now the issue will occasionally clear up and the mouse will work flawlessly but then it's back and the frustration continues. I have been searching the web for a couple days now troubleshooting left and right to no avail. I found another person who posted the same issue as me and same situation it started happening after he installed new RAM. Hi all,

A while ago I noticed that items in control panel only open after a delay of around 1 second. This delay seems to be built in to Windows 7 as I've tried this on 3 different computers running it and it's the same on all of them. So say for example, I open control panel and click 'system and security', nothing in there will open instantly e.g. Action Centre, Firewall, System etc all have that delay after clicking them. I've lowered the value of MenuShowDelay in the registry but that makes no difference.

It's annoying me a bit now because I've just bought an SSD and everything is very snappy. I'm quite sure it's not hardware limitations causing this delay but rather a setting in Windows 7.

I seem to remember there being a registry tweak to fix this but I cannot for the life of me find it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I now get "Please click here if you are not redirected within a few seconds" appearing in the upper left when web searching with Google using Internet Explorer or Slimbrowser, which piggybacks IE.
Google Image search also results in a blank page with "Please click here if you are not redirected within a few seconds" appearing in the upper left. Clicking "here" in both cases takes me to the results page.
Web search result links seem to work normally, however Image search results are in what Google call basic version and clicking on a link results in a totally blank page with the status bar saying "done"

Also after updating IE9, when I do a Google search I get a security warning about others can see information, do you want to continue. Clicking yes changes internet options restricted sites from the default setting. Clicking no results in Google not working.
Google states my cookies are not enabled when I try to access my Google settings... they are enabled.
Using IE and Bing does not have this problem, nor does this problem occur in Firefox, Waterfox or Slimboat.

Resetting IE does not help.

Hello everyone. This is my first post on this board. I know I probably could find a thread relative to this topic if I search but due to the nature of this problem, it would take me hours. I greatly appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks in advance!

Problem: Any time IE6 with SP1 goes to a page, it becomes unresponsive for about 15 seconds. Then it recovers and loads the page. This happens if I click a link, type a URL, click back, or any page load other than refreshing.

Info: I am on a corporate LAN. Windows 2000 NT. Multiple users on this computer, only I am having this problem. I have 2 logins and the other one doesn't even have this problem. I have run spybot and fixed all problems it found but that did not solve the issue. When I use this login on other computer, IE works fine. I have tried repairing internet explorer too.

Background: The computer was fine until 2 days ago when I installed AOL 8.0. I wanted to check my mail, but never signed on because it wouldnt work with the proxy server on this computer.

A:IE6 freezes for 15 seconds, then recovers when clicking a link

Ok well I figured out the problem. The freezing was due to the PageRank feature on the google toolbar. Turning this off resolved the issue so if anyone else is having this problem, try that!

TWINGE ATTACK Detect Packet Dropped
(As you can see, they are all ~40-43 seconds apart -.- On a 20 ping report to google.com I lost 55% of the packets, but just before I pinged comcast.com and lost 0... )

This is causing slower net speeds, and disconnects from certain games / programs. Any ideas? I already have my WAN ping-back disabled... the router came with it ON as a factory default so it was on for a while if that helps. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sieg
