Wireless Internet not working.

Q: Wireless Internet not working.

Hi guys, here is my question.

So my sister is running an Acer Aspire 3680 laptop. Yesterday the wireless internet on her laptop was working. She ran the default window's disk cleanup and then after she rebooted her computer and let the clean up run her wireless internet stopped working. It connects to our home network but it doesn't get past the Identifying stage.

I am running a Netgear model WGR614 v7 network. Its 802.11g.

On my network I assign static LAN IP's based on MAC addresses and I employ MAC address filtering.

I checked her mac address in case the disk clean up had changed it, but the one on her computer matched the MAC i have for her in the router. I have tried cycling the power on the router and no help.

I have removed our home network from her wireless network places and then re-added it, retyping the correct password.

The RJ45 or LAN connection works fine. I am just lost on why the wireless is not working. We have other laptops in the house and they can get on the wireless internet just fine.

I am running out of ideas here, any help would be great, thanks.

Preferred Solution: Wireless Internet not working.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Hi, I have just got an EZCast home multimedia wireless sharing device. It works great from my acer laptop and from my android phone. HTC one! My problem is that it works as an access point so both my phone and my laptop need to connect as clients. when I do this I have no connection to the internet anymore.
I have a great deal with my telecoms provider in Ireland and get umlimited BB over G4 so I use the HTC either in wifi hotspot mode or Bluetooth PAN to connect to the internet on my laptop (and wireless printer).
Either way when I connect to the EZCast access point I have no internet. The phone sees a wireless network and shuts down my mobile data connection and my laptop can only connect to one wireless point at a time. When I do bluetooth tethering and I am connected to the EZCast AP, I can still see that I am connected to the BT PAN but I have no adapter to connect it to so no internet. I tried to bridge the PAN and the WIFI but forums are telling me that you can't do this with Windows 7 anymore. I have noticed that there is a virtual miniport in Windows and I was wondering would it be possible to use this. I know I could buy a USB Wifi dongle and that would be it but it must be possible some other other way. The networks don't havce to talk to eachother. I need to get internet on the laptop and then at the same time be able to connect to my TV via the EZast Wifi. Hope someone can help. It's my first post her so hope I have given enough info.

Hello and welcome Eamonn now I am a tad confused with your rather involved post mate. Now could you simplify it a little to what works with what and what you are actually wanting it to do.

Now I have to ask I assume you have updated all drivers for all the devices??

There is a really good networking member here if I cannot help you out but I will try first.

Hi people,

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.
My wireless connection has been working on and off for a while, but now it just refuses
to work.
The other computers in the wireless network are working just fine, so it must be definitely something in my laptop.

I can detect the network just fine, with good signal.
It says:

Media State: Enabled
IPv4 Connectivity: No internet access
IPv6 Connectivity: No internet access

Also, in the activity there are Bytes sent and received, but I cannot connect to any webpage either with Chrome of Firefox

I'm using McAfee Security Center. I tried turning off the firewall, but it still doesn't work.

Please let me know what I can try.

A:internet not working on lan but working with wireless card?

I would suggest connecting with your wireless card and going to windows update and seeing if you have all the updates for your operating system. Look in the Optional updates for hardware drivers that may fix the yellow exclamation marks, as they may be the problem. If the yellow marks don't go away, google that problem "how to get rid of yellow exclamation marks in Device manager".
You may want to disconnect your wireless card, plug in your ethernet cable, and then power cycle your modem, router, and computer. Turn them all off, then power each of them up, waiting a minute between each one. Start with your modem, then your router, then your computer. Post your results.

I purchased a new PC (Lenevo ideacentre e700 AOI) about two weeks ago. On an inital set up everything was running, fine did all the updates and was able to access the internet. I did not use the PC for around a week, and when attempting to try it the internet would not connect. I noticed that it was not showing any wifi options at all. I went to device manager and an exclamation mark was showing on our wifi network adapter which is a Intel dual band (cant remember the rest and now my device manager wont load at all to find). I took it back to the shop they looked at it and said it's probably just the drivers, however these are up to date. They ran the lenovo support and nothing come back wrong and the wifi connected to the stores wifi. The technician told use to just disable and enable with any troubles as would give a kick start. When we got home the wifi still wouldn't connect, tried to disable/enable however it wasn't even showing on the device manager, after a couple of times it finally appeared so we did the disable/enable however it sitll would not work. Now my pc won't load device manager at all.

Any recommendations, otherwise we will take the PC back to the shop.

Over the last couple of years we have been seeing a lot of problems with the above adapters, mainly concerning WPA and WPA2 encryption and mainly on windows Vista.
We have seen just a couple of issues on other windows operating system, windows XP and windows 7.

Windows XP:- A driver update has resolved the issue
Windows 7 :- No conclusive results for a fix

The wireless adapter gets an IP configuration, and shows as connected, but communication is non-existent or sporadic.

Log into the Router and disable the wireless security and see if you are now able to connect to the internet and surf OK.
Please post back a reply here, and let us know if that works or does not work.
If you post back the make and exact model of the router - we can advise how to disable the wireless security

Here are a number of possible solutions

I was stupidly playing around with the properties of my wireless internet connection (changing from open to shared etc etc). Now I have a problem where the internet does not automatically connect to my wireless network, and when I manually connect it, it seems to work for about 20 mins, then disconnect.

Also, rather oddly, when 'connected' it still says that its disconnected.

Does this make sense?

A:Internet/Wireless not working

Hi Ashlea, and welcome to TSG.

I suspect that the networking hardware drivers are missing and need to be installed. Check the Windows Hardware Device manager for any red or yellow warning symbols for any of the hardware.

Depending on the age of the computer, you may find out that XP compatible drivers may not be readily available for it.

Are you having problems accessing the contents of the memory sticks or just a problem opening the actual files? Are the programs needed to open the memory stick files installed on the computer?

I'm baffled, befuddled, bewildered, discombobulated, flummoxed , muddled, perplexed, perturbed, puzzled, AND stumped. Does anyone actually understand wireless networking? My laptop was working beautifully for a few days, then for no discernible reason, it don't.

I have Windows 7 on my desktop. it has a ASUS P5W DH Delux with built in wireless AP. The Sony Viao PCG-Z1AP laptop is running Windows XP Pro SP3.

I set up a ad hoc network on my desk top with internet sharing, and everything worked fine for a few days. Now while it is still getting a strong signal, 4-5 bars, and says it is connected, I can't access the internet through the laptop. Works perfectly plugged in to the cable modem.

And ideas for a sloution to this puzzling situation would be highly apreciated.

Here's the deal. We have two computers both connected to a WTG624 Netgear router. One is connected by a wireless USB adapter WG111v2, also Netgear.
A few days ago, one of them suddenly started acting up. The wireless signal (as shown on the netgear network wizard) would connect and then disconnect in a matter of seconds, but even when it said it was connected, the internet wouldn't work at all. I had to reinstall the driver, but that didn't work either. Now I had a constant signal with 80%+ strength but alas, the internet was not working. The networking icon in the system tray said I had 'little or no connection' and when i tried to repair it couldn't get one, ending up with
I tried putting in ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew into the command prompt box, but it said that it couldn't do anything while 'the media is disconnected'. I tried powercycling. I tried using the Windows wireless connection configuring thing, as the Netgear customer support people told me to, but that didn't work. I tried putting in netsh int ip reset rest.log and then netsh winsock reset catalog too, and then rebooting it, but I still couldn't get internet. I checked all the connections, and it's beginning to drive me mad.
Does anyone know what's wrong? And can anyone help me? Thanks.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 that's about 4 years old. I've always used a wired connection, with no router.

I just recently brought my laptop to a hotel that had wifi and I tried to get it to work. Since I had previously disconnected wireless on my laptop I had to try and reenable it but to no avail. When searching for networks it said I needed to turn on my wireless button or something like that. I kind-of knew what it meant because I used to have 3 icons in the system tray; one for wireless networks, one that showed signal strength I think, and one for the wired network. Well I only had 2, I was missing the signal strength one. Anyway, I gave up because I didn't really need the internet anyway.

I just returned home yesterday and now I can't get my wired connection to work. I plugged in my ethernet cable and where normally it would just work I got nothing. Now I look in my system tray and I have the 2 icons for the wireless and nothing for the wired connection. I tried restarting my cable modem, and I got nothing. But when I unplugged the power from my cable modem the icon popped up for a second to let me know that "my network connection has been disconnected".

I have no idea what to do. I've tried the "new connection wizard", it goes through and says I should be fine. In the Network Connections folder I have 3 icons, one for 1394 Net Adapter, one for Lan Connection, and one for Wireless Connection. I've disabled the Wirel... Read more

My AVG anti virus wanted a restart so I decided to go ahead and restart the computer. I have 2 icons in a corner of my desktop for disabling WLAN and enabling WLAN the windows wireless config this is to get around the extreme lag that ruins being on the internet with windows wireless internet config. Anyway after the reboot I click to enable it and get the message 'you do not have sufficient privileges or group policy has been applied'

So I can no longer enable the wireless to connect to a network. But I am the admin and only use that account anyway. Anyone know how to fix this? I can't think of how this happened it's been fine for quite a few months of me clicking the wlan on / off as needed so that I don't get those nasty lag spikes.

I haven't gone wired but might have to later but that's a huge pain and not a permanant solution. Side question: is there another way to actually FIX this crappy searching for internet connections = huge lag spike every minute problem?

PLEASE HELP. This is needs to be resolved.

My computer works perfectly when connected with the wire, but when I try to use my wireless internet, it says the signal is excellent, but when i open the internet it says "Page load error". I think the problem is with my computer because I've tried to connect to other wireless sources and they say they are connected as well, but my computer can't access the internet. So no problem with my router, just somethings up with the computers ability to connect wirelessly.

Please help. I'm not very experienced with computers or routers, so please be kind and detailed.

I've been trying to work on this problem for two days now, and I am clueless. I have a Compaq Presario v2000 laptop. It has run wirelessly previously, so I have no idea whats up. Help!

Hello, I am not a computer genius but I know bits and pieces. My problem (according to me) is very odd. In the household we have 3 laptops, 2 used very often for browsing. The wireless internet has no problems with this but my problem occurs when I connect to my wireless internet using my mobile phone. The internet will work for a few minutes then will stop working completely on both phone and laptops. When I run diagnostics it says that there are no problems found with the connection but I still cannot connect to the router. The only way to fix the problem is by resetting the router. Anybody know why this is the case and how I could fix it as I would like to be able to browse the internet on my mobile.

Thank you in advance

Hi. I just started using a Linksys Wireless-G ADSL Gateway. It works fine on my brother's laptop. And even though it connects with my laptop (with a speed of Excllent), Internet Explorer doesn't seem to recognize it.

So, to sum up: I'm connected to the Intenet, but my browser acts as if I'm not.

Please help.

Ok heres the deal. My computer is quite old and recently is having a problem where every know and then it would get the blue screen of death and give up. So I found out is because it needed to get a cleaning. So when I was trying to open it I accidentaly, while trying to remove the top, broke a wire (turned out it opened from the side). It's an HP Pavilion m9715f.

Ever since then internet has stopped working. It's not a virus as I have done a full system restore. And when I try to reset the ipv4, it tells me "echo request failed". I have tried so many things but to no avail. Help would be very aprreciated

Im pretty sure it's the cable at the top but I don't know what it does exactly.

Thanks in advanced to all feedback

Hi, I'm looking for help, I've tried everything I know to do.
We have two laptop computers and our Tivo hooked up to use the wireless internet through our cable company with a Belkin router. Over Christmas we got a camera that emails directly from it, and it told us to press the WSP button on the Belkin router. The camera magically worked, however our computers did not work anymore! After an hour long phone call to Belkin, I got one of my computers to work normally again. However the 2nd laptop won't connect to the internet and our tivo isn't picking it up either, which mean our shows are not recording.

Please help, any advice? Also, I'm using two apple computers. When I attempt to hook up the airport network, it says "unable to join the network."

Thanks in advance for the help! We've got to get back wireless soon!

A:Wireless internet not working correctly

i would suggest you log into the router and disable the wireless security WPS
and then set up manually

and then set the security to None / disable and then make sure everything connects to the open wireless network - you may need to remove any stored wireless profiles - i dont know the mac well enough to advise

Then once all working you can go back into the router and add wireless security - then reconnect the device and enter the security code to connect

I use wireless internet every day. A couple of days ago my wireless internet was working normally, but then my computer said "limited or no connectivity". It wasn't just my computer because my roommate also on our wireless network got the same message. So we unplug and replug the modem and router ...

(we only know to do this because when we first moved into our apartment- in September - we were having problems with our internet and it turned out to be a bad modem, which was then replaced by a brand new one and we haven't had a problem since, and our internet connection has since been very stable).

After replugging the modem and router to the outlet, everyone's wireless internet worked except mine. My computer finds my wireless network, and It attempts to connect, "Acquiring network address" "please wait while windows connects..." and after a good minute, it stops the attempt.

I am able to connect to the internet through ethernet cord connected to the router, but my wireless doesn't work. Today I restored my computer to "factory settings" to see if the problem would be solved, but it's still does the same thing.

Could my wireless card need to be replaced? Or could it be some other problem. Any help is appreciated. I can provide more info if asked.

On Virgin, modem connected to router connected to PC. Hasn't worked since installed, engineer came back and said it's the PC.

When I opened IE it doesn't load any pages, just keeps loading at the bottom. It says I'm connected on the icon.

The wireless works on my laptop, so I don't understand what's going on.

I've tried everything I could find online:

avast pro virus scan
disabled firewalls
ipconfig/release & renew
the netsh winstock stuff
installed registry mechanic and fixed all errors
installed firefox but for some reason it wont even open so I don't know if that works

Any help please?

Thank you very much, Ramon

Hi everyone,
I'm currently on my laptop and needed some help with my desktops internet. I recently installed windows 7 professional 64 bit and had been using an Ethernet cable to connect to the internet in my dorm. Now I'm at home for winter break and my wireless card isn't working. Windows 7 says that no wireless devices are enabled. Is there a way I can turn back on my device? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device on my mother board but that didnt help because that was for the ethernet and not for the wireless card. thanks.

Since I changed the other to "solved" too early, figure I might as well just start a new thread.

Here's whats going on.

I'll be connected to the internet, doing whatever, and then my internet will just suddenly cut out (like it did just now, annoying). This has been going on for about a months or so.

I have tried resetting my router to factory settings and reconfiguring it.

I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting everything.

I have tried moving my router so it's more out in the open (it was sitting on a shelf in the desk, kind of like a cubby hole, its now sitting on the very top).

I have tried changing the channel

In the settings I have tried changing it from "idle out" to "keep alive".

None of these have appeared to fix the problem, as it has now disconnected 3 times in the span of an hour. Not equal time difference either, just randomly. Can someone give me more things to try? (and please keep it simple, I'm new to this wireless stuff)

A:Wireless connected but internet is not working

would you post the following tests

Please post back here the make and exact model of the router and if separate, the make and exact model of the modem

Also please make a note of the status of the light on the modem and on the router

ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

I was using my wireless internet when the connection got slow so I right clicked to repair connection, which normally works. However this time it never connected back to my network. I can see my network but it wont connect. I am able to connect to unsecured networks however. My router shows up with all lights working and my IP said my router and modem show up as working on their end. I have disconnected my router and modem as well as restarting my computer but nothing has changed. Any suggestions before I throw the router out the window???

A:Wireless Internet quit working

Disable encryption on the router and try to connect. Assuming success you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect. If failure please show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.
