Can't connect to internet "Windows was unable to connect to this netwo

Q: Can't connect to internet "Windows was unable to connect to this netwo

Hello guys,

I have just finished my very first computer build and am rather happy with most things.

Unfortunately I am having problems connecting to the internet.

I have a temporary dongle in place and because it's my only option for about a month I kinda need it to work.

When I first connected it I found my connection and I successfully connected, I downloaded Google Chrome and Steam, then unfortunately it randomly stopped working.

Where the strength bar should of been, there was a large red cross, when I found my connection it read "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network." I Googled this and people said delete your connection and reconnect, that didn't work, so then I tried to set my security type to something different or off as recommended in a solved post, the problem persisted.

Now after restarting my computer several times it sometimes rejects my password, or comes up with the "the settings for the network..." and on rare occasions it connects then 5 minutes later comes up wit my original problem.

I have tried resetting my connection details as what is saved on my laptop and mac and they don't work either.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards, Lee.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I usually use the internet in 3 locations on my laptop and till a few days back the laptop would connect fine to all 3 wifi networks. However, out of the blue my laptop stopped connecting to the wifi at location A and B, and still connects fine at location C. Other laptops and phones still connect fine to the wifi at location A and B, there's been no change in the software on my laptop since before the problem and I've run a system restore too to back when it was working, with no luck. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the adapter driver, also cleared my saved network locations and tried to connect again. Any other suggestions?

Hello I have an HP Envy 17 Laptop. I've recently been unable to connect to an unsecured wi-fi connection that I have been able to connect to perfectly fine in the past. Since yesterday though, when I tried to connect, I kept getting a message saying, "Windows was unable to connect to blank internet".

If anyone could help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.

A:Windows was unable to connect to "select" Internet

Yes, I do, however, it's not my own connection I'm trying to connect to. Our internet ocassionally goes down, so whenever that happens, we use our neighbors network. I'm guessing they have a router. Another point to be noted is that, my laptop is the only device that is unable to connect to our neighbor's network, my sibling is able to connect his laptop, along with his Ipod Touch, without any problems.

I have Comcast cable internet in Atlanta and use a Motorola SB6121 modem and a Linksys wireless router. The wireless network has been up and running for over a year and I have never had any problems with it and I have never made any changes to it after the initial setup. I connect to the wireless network using two smart phones and an Apple laptop. I live in an apartment so the signal strength is always high and I am never more than one room away from the wireless router.

It was working fine one night like always and then in the morning I was unable to connect to the wireless network. I can still access the internet via wired ethernet cable so I know the internet is online and it is downloading at full speed. I can access the internet via wired connection directly from the modem to the computer. I can also access the internet via wired connection from the modem to the router to the computer. Comcast shows no problems with the connection on their end.

I have purchased all new ethernet cables so I know the cables aren't the problem so I figured the wireless router might have a problem. I bought a new wireless router (Apple Airport Express) and created a new wireless network. I can see the network name is available and it has full signal strength with WPA2 encryption just like it had always been with the old router.

When I try to connect from my phone or laptop it will say "Unable to obtain IP address" and "Network disabled because the internet connection i... Read more

A:Unable to connect to wireless network. "Internet connection is too slow."

if the router is working with a cable connection, then its unlikely to be the modem , unless thats also a router and you are using it for DHCP

you say the modem is connected by cable to the router
and any device connected to the router by cable works perfectly - is that correct

on the old router - have you removed the wireless security and see if you can connect ?

carried out a full power cycle - see below

also it would be worth making a note of the router configuration and do a factory reset on the router and re setup and try again

with a PC connected by a cable direct to the modem can we see an ipconfig /all
now do a power cycle and connect the router

Hi!

My daughter got a virus on her laptop and after getting rid of it (I think all the way, it's hard to tell until I can update the anti-virus software) I can no longer connect her laptop to the internet.

I have had a problem in the past with having to reboot the server and all the computers in order for the computers (all of them in the house) to register new ip addresses. Normally, if I have one computer that refuses to connect even after a reboot of the entire system I can connect it thru LAN and it, bang, fixes itself. However, this time it is not working.

Not only will her wireless not connect but neither will the LAN. I have opened the cmd prompt and done an ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew. Every time I do this I get the message:

"An error occurred while renewing interface Wireless Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out."

I tried the "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" and it seemed to work fine.

I also tried the "netsh winsock reset" and it seemed to work fine as well.

I rebooted each time I attempted a fix. Still I am unable to connect to the internet. It says it is connecting locally, but will not connect to the actual internet. When I use the repair option it gives me the same messages over and over that do not work. It always leads back to the IP address.

Here are the specs on her computer and as much information as I can think of. Please let me know what else I can try to get her compu... Read more

Hello,

About three weeks ago, I built a desktop PC and it ran fine for about a week and a half, but then it would sometimes not start and go into "startup repair", which never succeeded in actually finding a solution. The cause of this was a blue screen error which reported the following:

STOP: c000021a
The Windows Subsystem System process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x
The system has been shut down.

This would occur perhaps a third of the time after powering the system on. In order to try and stop this, I opened Windows with "last known good configuration". The computer now does not find any internet connections, even though it is connected via ethernet as before.

How can I fix this issue? Any help is appreciated.

(I do not know if the startup repair issue is fixed, either)

Just got off the phone with Verizon. They had me push the reset button and I was able to connect to the internet again. I mentioned how slow it takes for pages to load. She said if I have two firewalls running that can happen, then eventually it blocks your internet connection. I have the free Avira and am only using the Windows Firewall. She said the Verizon router has a firewall but it's a low security. So I went on the internet was able to get on some sites, but then others wouldn't connect again, said there is no internet connection. All the lights on the router are on. So far it's still working, but this is what happened before when I lost my connection completely.

I have Windows XP, tried it both on IE 8 and Firefox. The router is an Actiontec MI42WR. The problem was with both my desktop and laptop wired connections.

""Unable to Connect"" to internet

I desperately need someone’s help.
I am having great trouble using my internet browsers to connect to the intyernet.
I am on a broadband connection, which is set up on a small home lan. I have 2 computers connected to a hub/switch, and then the modem also connected into the hub/switch to connect straight to the phone jack. So both my computers use the modem to access the net.
***Comp 1 connects to hub/switch
***Comp 2 connects to hub/switch
***Modem connects to hub/switch
***Modem connects to phonejack
Now to my problem assessment;
I am unable to connect to the internet with either of my internet browsers (IE, FIREFOX) as well as via msn or gaim. My MSN diagnosed the problem, and said it had something to do with my key ports. But I have disabled all my firewalls, and closed them. (Zone Alarm, Symantec client firewall, and the default windows SP2 firewall). I can still ping addresses, they reply. So what’s the problem?!?! My internet works but it doesn’t work?!?!?!
My other computer on the same LAN works perfectly fine, using the same connection settings. Like DNS, Default gateway, Subnet mask are all the same. Except for the IP, Of course.
Comp 1 IP is 10.0.0.3 and the other 10.0.0.2. Subnet is 255.255.255.0 and DNS and default gateway is 10.0.0.138.
Also, my bit torrent client is screwed. It no longer connects. I use Bit-comet. Connection error 10061 with all torrents.
Before my computer worked perfectly fine.

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help. We recently installed a new wireless router, and all the other computers in our house can access the internet. But for some reason I can only connect to the network, even though it says there's full connectivity.

I called the customer careline for our internet providers, and they said it was a problem with my computer settings, rather than the router. But they said they couldn't advise me any further unless I paid for it, hence my need to look for advice elsewhere....

Thanks!

2)When I click on Network and Sharing Center , and then on manage wireless network , I don't see the name(stes) of the wireless network(So I can't even remove it)

Delete the wireless profile and then try again. If that doesn't work, delete the wireless profile, broadcast the SSID, and try to connect. If successful that should confirm that the wireless profile is correct, and then when/if you again disable the SSID broadcast I think (have no experience with 'hidden' networks) you should be able to still connect.

As a side question, why disable the SSID broadcast?

Hi guys, as the title suggests I am unable to download Windows 8 media via the provided Microsoft setup. I have contacted Microsoft on multiple occasions with multiple agents connecting to my computer via a remote connection and have been unable to fix the problem. They had the cheek to offer me a ?65 Guaranteed Fix which from what I saw with the technicians put me right off.

Upon giving the licence key I have to Microsoft agents, everyone stated that my key was fine, with no problems. Once I enter my key I get "We can't connect right now. Please check your internet connection and try again.". The ironic thing is, my internet connection is fine and the license key apparently checks out ok. It's really frustrating not being able to download the Windows 8 media nor find an alternative direct download like Windows 7 from Digital River.

Again, I have a legitimate key so I can't see what the problem is. My time/date has been set multiple times via the internet so I can't see this being an issue. I've tried to download, not activate to be clear, via another machine and I am given the same error. Every technician has tried a cold boot with services and applications disabled. I have provided a screenshot for further support.

A:Unable to download Windows 8- "We can't connect right now"

What site address said "a ?65 Guaranteed Fix" . I am not aware of a Microsoft site that does that? Ditto - to what "Microsoft agents", did you give the licence key ? To what purpose, and why, are you constantly resetting the time and date.

If the wireless is integrated get the latest driver from the motherboard manufacturer's web site; else get the latest from Realtec's site.

Disable encryption and MAC Address filtering on the router and try to connect. If successful you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect.

Hi, I realise that this problem has been asked many times over the Internet, however I am at my wits end over this problem.
I would like to have Windows 10, but I have downloaded it four times, and each time I am unable to connect to the Internet, either by WiFi or Ethernet cable. I have Windows 7 Home, Premium, 64bit. with a Generic Desktop. Each time I have upgraded to 10, I have had to revert back to Windows 7.
I have tried all the suggestions on Microsoft. and Google Search, without any success. I have purchased new Wireless adapter Cards, and USB wireless Adapters. I have no idea now, as to what to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have searched and tried many suggestions over the last 3 - 4 months, without any success. When I revert back to Windows 7 Home Premium, all works fine again, without any problems.

A:Unable to Connect to Internet with Windows 10

Hello, you might have a basic low level driver incompatibility. Not all PCs work well with Win 10. I can't tell how old your PC is, and you'd be in the best position to assess that. For example, some laptops sold with Win 7 simply cannot be upgraded to '10.

Suggest you research the compatibility of your MBO and see if there's a record of anyone else with experience of it.

I received an update yesterday morning from MS and then had trouble with the machine booting and connecting. Finally after 10 or 15 minutes of a black screen it booted and then I was able to connect to the internet. It connected all day yesterday and then last night I lost the connection again.

I rebooted this morning - and once again it takes 10 minutes for everything to load but then once loaded will not connect to the internet. I have another desktop running through the same router so I know the connection is good.

I'd appreciate any help!

Thanks,

Nic

That last update seems to have caused alot of problems.
Use System restore to a pint of time before you instaled the update, or
Wait for Microsoft to launch a bug-fixing update

Hi,

I'am having problems when connecting to my router. Some times i can connect to my router on the first attempt, but after a while it disconnects randomly and i cant connect back without trying to connect about half an hour. Its also really slow although sometimes its superfast. When i cant connect to my router i try fixing it with troubleshooter and it's not succesfull most of the time, but somehow it repairs it and it connects to internet(if i am lucky). I'am running Win7 64-bit and i have Belkin USB wireless adapter ( Belkin surf N150) When i first bought the adapter it didnt connect to internet, so i throught it is not working and i got it replaced.
I got the same problem with the second one as well, it's been a quite long time since
i had this problem and its starting to annoy me really badlly.
I just cant figure out if it is something to do with my settings/windows or my wireless adapter. I dont think theres something wrong with router because my brother connects to it without any problems.(wireless) I want to show you the troubleshooter reports as well.

I have been messing with my daughter's computer (Sony Vaio VGN-CS320J with Win7 professional) for days now and cannot connect to the wireless network that our other two laptops running Vista work fine on.

This all started when my router went wonky and I had to go buy another power adapter for it. For some reason (I realize this is illogical.) I've been unable to get her back to our wireless network since then. Things I've tried:

1. Unplugged, reset both router and modem probably 50 times.
2. Connected her laptop directly to the router and confirmed the router settings that way.
3. Uninstalled wireless adapter (Intel Wi-Fi link 5100 AGN) and let startup re-install (numerous times)
4. Downloaded and installed latest drivers for said adapter
5. Copied my network settings from working laptop to the one that won't connect.
6. Deleted the network and recreated it (numerous times)
7. Tried to ping router unsuccessfully. (general failure)
8. System restore to a few different dates when said laptop WAS connecting.
9. Reset all the router settings via 192.168.1.1 (New name, SSID, key, etc.)Then created new network on non-connecting laptop with new settings.

I can see the wireless network, that's not the issue. However, I can't connect to it. I ran ipconfig/all and the adapter is listed as "media not connected". I'm using WPA2-personal for security if that matters.

My other laptop (which is vista) can connect succesfully no problems, my ps3 can connect succesfully no problem. Pretty much everything else connects fine but my Wind. 7 Laptop lol. Hi: May we see :
Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I reinstalled Windows 7. First, the computer did not find the network adapter. I looked up my computer's serial number online and was able to get the drivers installed in order to connect to the network. Now, however, I am unable to connect from the network to the Internet.

I have a Westell 6100 modem and Belkin router. I tried resetting the modem and router numerous times, to no avail. I am able to access the Internet by plugging the phone cord directly to the computer, so my Internet is working, but not wireless. The device driver shows an exclamation point next to the Westell WireSpeed Dual Connect Modem.

The error is that there is a disconnect between the access point and the router...something like that. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the cables, shutting down and powering back up...

Can you please help? Thank you!!!

A:unable to connect to Internet after reinstalling Windows 7

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

While you are connected to the internet...
...please gather your IPCONFIG info into a text.
See this post for more info*.
Please attach that text file to your next post.

Temporarily unplug the LAN cable from your computer.
(i.e. unplug one end of the wire that goes from the Westell modem to the computer)
Restart the computer.
Connect to the Belkin router via Wi-Fi.
Create another IPCONFIG text file.
Please attach that text file to your next post.

*If you cannot get the IPCONFIG info to go into the text file, please post a screenshot of each cmd prompt window.

I recently updated my Dell XPS Studio to Windows 7 Pro which is connected to our work network running Windows Server 2003? My computer came with Windows Vista Ultimate. After the upgrade to Windows 7 I installed CS3 and the program somehow would not let me out to the internet. The CS3 program installed okay and works fine and I am able to connect to my network drives and what not but for some reason not able to get out on the Internet. I called Adobe for support and they really did not have an answer, they said it was a network problem. Can anyone help??

A:Unable to connect to the Internet after installing CS3 on Windows 7

Hi Dave, Just this evening I did a clean install of 7-64 Pro, installed CS3 Design Standard and watched Adobe's updater take out my connectivity. In my case Adobe's updater installed then created a network under my regular home network, nicely labelled unidentified network. Both my home and the unidentified network showed no connectivity in the networks control panel. In my case, the solution (after trying all normal troubleshooting techniques) was to go into device manager, uninstall my network adapter, reboot and let 7 reinstall the drivers for it (an on-board Marvel 10/100/1000 on my Gigabyte 965p-DQ6 motherboard). Windows then automagically deleted the Adobe updater bug network and restored my home network. It is working fine now just as before the install of Adobe's crapware. I will take a wild guess that you'll not be quite as lucky as I was since you have networked drives that may need to be remapped, but give this angle a look to see if you get things working. FWIW, CS3 is as stable as it ever was in Vista x64 Ultimate after the updater did its job and borked my LAN. Good luck, Carl Miller

We had a problem with Windows XP Professional finding the physical CD-ROM drive on a HP WorkStation. It turns out that this a known problem and Microsoft has a Registry Edit that repairs the problem. We had to repair the system using the original CD, and then do the Registry Edit. The CD-ROM drive is OK now.

However, we can no longer connect to the internet. The HP Workstation can connect to other machines on the local network. There are 4 other machines and connection is no problem. All of the machines see the HP Workstation and connect to the internet, but the HP Workstation cannot connect to the Internet, but can connect to the other machines.

We have a router and the HP WorkStation obtains the correct IP address from the router, but if we try to get a new address, the system reports it cannot. Nothing works when trying to go outside the local network.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Fran

A:unable to connect using modem to internet on windows 2000

Hi,

Why not give the following a try:

1) Download the newest and latest drivers from the modem manufacturer’s website. (I know, you have a disk, but download the newest and best anyhow.

2) Enter Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager and DELETE any references to any modem.

3) Shut down and physically remove the modem and then put the modem back in PCI slot #3 (Third slot down from the AGP slot)

4) Boot up and enter the BIOS setup menu.

5) In the BIOS setup menu find the PnP area. If you are running WinXP or win2k, then DISABLE Pnp….however, if you are using Win98, then make sure it is ENABLED.

6) Save and Exit

7) Boot back up and when the computer finds your modem, then load the drivers that have been downloaded from the manufacturer’s website. It may tell you that the latest and best are already installed, but install them anyway. (for example, WinXP and win2k only have v.90 drivers and not the most recent v.92 that are needed for best operation) If it says they are not digitally signed, then load them anyway. This is a long story, but I can assure you it is a money issue and a rip off from Microsoft in my opinion.

This should get you going!

After a week of using Windows Vista, Internet Explorer stopped connecting to the internet. I use FireFox as an alternative and I have a wireless ethernet card installed. Is there a way to repair IE that works? Logged on as Administrator, I followed the instructions to disable all add-ins, closed and open IE again and under Tools/Advanced, clicking RESET just pops up the message to close all open windows and programs. I closed the sidebar, started task manager and proceeded to stop tasks when it said "Access is denied".

Starting up the DID for WV Home Premium 32-bit only presented the Install option, so I did not want to begin that.

A:Internet Explorer Unable to Connect in Windows Vista

As a follow up to this post, I learned that when logging on to a different account, which displays icons that I had under Windows XP, I can connect to the internet with Internet Explorer.
In the new account were IE will not connect, when I click IE Tools/Internet Options/Conections/Setup, it says I am already connected to the Internet after I click Add, but when I click Browse the Internet Now, it says 'Navigation to the webpage was canceled'. Typing a different web page does not work. Going through diaognistics at that point found no problems with my internet connection.

Was able to connect to my network fine a couple of days ago. Now It doesn't want to work.

Everytime I try it seems like I connected (the little blue globe symbol displays) but when I try and go to a webpage, the connection times out or moves slow. When I run diagnose and repair it tells me that this computer has "limited or no connectivity" even though I'm able to connect to other networks. Selecting the "automatically get new IP settings" and "reset network adapter" options don't work. After selecting these earlier it was telling me "unable to connect to primary DNS server", then it was telling me "windows has confirmed this computer is currently experiencing a network connectivity problem". Now it's telling me there is no problem in spite of the slow connection.

I don't think my wireless adapter is the issue, I'm able to connect to other networks fine. I don't think the router/modem is the issue, there's another computer in the house (that I don't own) as well as my xbox hooked up wireless to it with no problem.

We have 2 computers, 3 smartphones an Xbox and a Wii.  1 computer, 3 smartphones, the Xbox and the Wii all connect to the internet just fine.  Other computer cannot connect to the internet.  I can download Windows updates and I can access my work computer remotely using Remote Desktop Connection.  When I try to connect to the internet, I get the message, "This page can't be displayed." I then click the "Fix Connection Problem" button and it says, "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem."  The computer was infected recently with Malware which TdsKiller removed but the internet access on this computer has not been the same.  Initially it was very slow and then it would not connect and then when I tried again, it would.  Then I had to reset the router to get it to work.  Now resetting router does not work.I tried to install a new browser on the computer (i downloaded it on other computer and then saved it to a flashdrive) but when I tried to install it on the problem computer, it said I needed to connect to the internet to install.  Not sure how to fix.

Hello there! I am in desperate need of help in solving my rather unique problem: My beloved MSI GP 2PE Leopard (Intel i7, 16GB RAM) is stuck in Windows 10 setup due to the fact that it cannot connect to my router.

Upon turning on my PC, a page comes up that tells me to connect to a network "to finish setting up this device". I click on my network, and after a minute of trying it says "We can't connect to the Internet right now. Please try again." Well I did try again. Again and again. Same results. Every other device in my house can connect to the WiFi, and I had no problem until I installed Windows 10.

All other cases I've found online are from people who at least got out of Setup Mode...l don't even have access to my desktop.

I'm in dire straits and I want my baby back so if anyone could help it would be seriously appreciated. <3

I have been using a Sprint mobile broadband USB data modem for over a year now.

I had a home network of 3 client PCs connected to a router via Ethernet cables.

I had the modem plugged into my computer. (XP Pro) The other PCs running XP home.

I had multiple users accounts on my computer. 1. Admin, 2. Mine (I use to keep from having admin security issues) and others for my children.

Everything was great until I bought a new system for myself this spring.

Reluctantly I let the tech talk me into purchasing Windows 7 Pro instead of XP Pro. I went with the 32-bit for compatibility with my older programs.

I was able to set up (with some minor frustration) a new home group network using the same setup as I had before.

I managed to get all 4 networked computers connected to the internet as long as my new computer (with the modem) is turned on, logged in to my user, and connected. (Not the admin)

Hi,

I recently restored the whole system on my sister's HP because of a virus that I was unable to remove manually.
The system restore went fine until it reached the point where it was going to reinstall Windows. The computer just turned itself off and the software install was not complete. Nor am I able to reinstall it again. Therefore I have to hold down ctrl+alt+del, go to task manager, click on audit.exe and end the process to turn the computer on. But I can't do anything with it in safemode. The main problem is: I can't connect to the internet! It won't find my wireless network even though Network Discovery is on. What can I do about the internet? And is there any way to install Windows again without a CD?
Thanks in advance!

whats the model of the HP by tapping F10 or F11 as it boots you may get into the recovery manager

i confused is the software now installed on the PC ?

is this a restore going back to a previous date - or a re-install

when you re-install the software you may need to download drivers - lets see a device manager

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Device Manager
Post back the results in device manager
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Start > control Panel {Vista set to classic view}> system > {Vista, device manager on left hand side} {XP hardware Tab, device manager button} >
windows 7
start > control panel> System and Security> Device Manager

network adaptors, click on the + > post back the devices listed there
are there any ! ? or X
post a screen shot of the device manager - network adapters

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here
