Q: Solved: cmd asking prompts for "Enter command number" pics

I went to do some trouble shooting today and this came up. I have ran superantispyware, malwarebytes and my av program. Everything came back clean.

Any one have any ideas what could be the cause of this??

Preferred Solution: Solved: cmd asking prompts for "Enter command number" pics

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've got a desktop computer with XP Pro SP3 and a laptop with both XP and Win7(dual-boot). These two computers are connected through a router in a network(desktop comp-wired, laptop-wireless). Everything works fine, except the sharing in Win7. From the desktop computer I can access all resources on the laptop without problems. From the laptop, everything works fine too, when I try to access the desktop computer's shared folders and printers, but ONLY FROM XP. Every time I want to do this from Win7, I'll be prompted for a "network password". I have no idea what I had to enter - I did a search over the internet, and found following suggestions:

-turn on network discovery, file and printer sharing, public folder sharing at the Advanced Sharing Settings, and disable password-protected sharing
-both computers are in the same workgroup
-disabled the limitation of blank passwords in the group policy editor

NOTHING WORKED. (firewall might not be the reason, because I use Windows Firewall, and it's configured to enable sharing)

What username/password do I have to enter, or how could I access the resources without a password? Thanks in advance for your help.

A:Windows 7 prompts "Enter Network Password"

Try this adjustment on the XP machine. This usually works to get rid of the password prompt.

Goto... Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy > Local Policies > Security Options

Scroll down to... Network Access: Sharing and security model for local accounts

Select... Guest only and not Classic.

For some time now, double clicking on a folder no longer opens it as usual. Instead, double clicking on a folder causes a separate Explorer Search window to open, with that folder's name under the "search in" tab. In fact, when i right click on a folder, the first and bold-faced option is "search", as opposed to "open". So to open any folder I have to right click it and hit open, which is slow and annoying. I cleaned out my registry, spyware, viruses, everything, and still this problem persists. I also checked the Mouse control panel, nothing there.

Anyone know what's going on with my computer?

A:Help! Double-clicking on folders prompts "search", not "open"

Open "My Documents", go into Tools>Folder Options and under General>Browse Folders choose Open each folder in the same window. Save that and then goto View>Explorer Bar> and click Folders.

In Windows XP, fully updated, I have several folders full of mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

But all the figures in the "Duration" column appear to be in "hours" and "minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03", but what I want is "minutes" and "seconds".

Any thoughts as to how to change this?

I broke one of the "feet" on my old E-Machines PS/2 keyboard I have used for years and like. I also use one at work that's pretty close to the same layout. I am looking everywhere for a keyboard with a large "enter" and "backspace" I can't find one. I don't care if it's USB or PS/2 but hate the "flat" type that ship with computers these days you look at the key to hard and it presses. I have HUGE hands and like the "old style" keyboard that you have to press pretty hard on the keys (like an actual spring under them) Do any of you know of a specialty keyboard shop or somewhere else with a big selection? I have looked all over the internet on the "major" places. (i.e. Newegg, TigerDirect, BestBuy, Wal-Mart, etc...)

If anyone knows of a place that has "old style" keyboards please let me know. I may have to settle but for such a small purchase that I use so much, I'd like to get what I want and I can't be the only one with massive hands having these same issues. The world isn't made for us big guys.

Hey folks,

Got a problem here that I believe I have experienced in Vista before but I forgot how I eventually solved the problem but I did solve it before.

It's been so long since it's happened though that I would probably have trouble digging up the old thread that I posted about it.

Anyway, let me explain.

I cannot right-click on some pictures on the internet and then save them as I am normally able to do.

For example, I go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sephiroth_(Final_Fantasy)

When I get to this page, I will attempt to right-click on the picture of the Sephiroth character at the top right of the page and save the image to one of my folders.

Normally when I do this it works perfectly, no problems whatsoever. However, as it is right now, when I right-click the picture and try to save it to a folder a window pops up that says "Access Denied".

And to show you that the problem is not solely isolated to this single wikipedia page, I have tried other pages, for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_Fighter_4

I tried to right-click and save the picture in the top right of this page as well, once again. And once again, same problem. "Access Denied" window pops up and I can't save the pics to my folder.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for this problem or has experienced this same problem before I would love your input and your time and help.

By the way, I am using Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition.

Thanks in advance folks!... Read more

Hi, my keyboard by Logitech has number keys on the right hand side. At some point I messed things up because now when I press the number lock key to unlock the number lock it won't let me type numbers at all even though it displays the words "number lock is off". A:Solved: "Number Lock" Function

Num lock on means that numbers will be generated when you use the number pad. Num lock off means that the symbols below the numbers will be used. This is expected behaviour and cannot be changed. You can change the state of the Num Lock setting (i.e. whether it is on or off when you start the computer) in the BIOS.

Recently, a freind brought me their computer to look at. At first I thought it was a straight forward issue relating to some minor spyware or something. But soon I realized it was a full blown infection. There were tons of files in the system32 that I knew were crap and all sorts of viruses/worms like Netsky and Kaboomface (the facebook one).

It seems I cleared it using most of the steps I found one line and on sites like this. But now I have one final issue. Internet Explorer closes as soon as it loads and prompts you to either save the site it was visiting or run the site. <--- puzzling..

I noticed it started prompting me to save or open STS<random number>.tmp and fwlink (this is that site IE often defaults to). These are the two I got the most.

I am not sure what to do at this point as it just seems to be some permanent damage to IE? I even uninstalled and reinstalled IE but got the same result.
Also, the ability to access internet options is locked. But I checked the registry and couldn't find any entry in there thats causing it.

Anyone ever experience something like this? I am going to update the Malware Antibytes and give it another full scan. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for any help!

It seems that other than the 'dir' command, every command I run from my dos prompt, I get an "Access is denied." message.  Example:
Access is denied.

I've checked my UAC settings and made sure they're set to "Never Notify".

I've also tried to run sfc.exe, but can't:
Access is denied.

Finally, I've tried to run cmd.exe as administrator, but no luck.
The one thing I've noticed is that if I go to cmd.exe's Properties and then the Security tab, I see that TrustedInstaller has Full control, but SYSTEM, Administrators and Users have only:

Read & execute andRead
I've tried to change permissions by editing, but when I do so, I get an "Access is denied" message.

Note: I am familiar with the Registry and have used it many times, before you worry
Okay, i want to create a command in my right-click menu, in Windows XP, so, for example when i'm video editing, Web-page desiging and alike, in "my recent documents", i can go to the directory of the file itself, instead of simply opening the file.

Its a simple timesaver really and although everything i use is organised into folders, i sometimes wonder if theres organised and then too organised with many sub-directorys leading to the files i need.

So, in the registry, my first guess was to go HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\Shell

Creating a key named "Explore" and editing it to display the name i wanted in the right click-menu.
Then i created a sub-key, labelled it command, and am working upon what i need to do in here.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest the line i will need, i've been working on it for a while with no luck.
I know the basics, for example explorer.exe is a must, then followed by various commands such as /e,/root, etc etc.

What i'm saying is, i know the commands, just not how i need to structure them to do what i am asking.

Thank you if you can help.

Hello there

So I'm experiencing strange BitLocker behaviour. I have this PC at work. Clean Windows 8 x64 installation, 3 HDD (AHCI), no SSD.

After I set up BitLocker to encrypt "C" partition, it gave me pop-up window, that I should restart PC to test the BitLocker loader. So I clicked Yes. And after few seconds I got this:

JPG IMAGE - http://www.eightforums.com/attachments/f1/f2/22871d1370880908t-very-strange-bitlocker-enter-password-startup-screen-5jkippr.jpg

Mind, I'm still ABLE TO type password (i can't see sh** though), after I hit enter Windows IS booting, but it's really weird to see above picture instead of:

My GFX is OK, I tested it with games, benchmarks etc.
BitLocker simply cannot, for whatever reason, use my video card properly and displays those weird lines. After all - it hasn't loaded the whole Windows yet. Than again, it IS a bit strange, as Windows installers tend to work fine.

Any thoughts people?

Kind Regards

I am having a problem with "folder in use" prompts when trying to edit a file name.

I found the following Microsoft answer to the problem here: Renaming a network folder in Windows 7 Explorer fails with "the action can't be completed..."

It says to navigate to:User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Explorer

Unfortunately I'm not much of a techie and am quite unfamiliar with M7, so could someone help me out please?

A:Problem with "folder in use" prompts when trying to edit a file name.

So is this a network directory that you're working with or a local directory your PC?

Either way, good way to get an answer for this is to use Process Explorer. Once you have it open , attempt to rename the file again. When the error message is still open, do a Ctrl+F and then type in the name of the file (no extension) or folder name. It should come up with one or more process names. These are processes that are currently handling that particular file/folder, which one (or more) of them may be responsible for not playing nice and sharing the file/folder with anyone else.

If it's a network directory, then what the instructions are telling you is to go into the Local Group Policy Editor and change a policy setting. In Start Menu type "group policy" and press Enter. Then navigate to the "directory" it mentions, and then change the associated setting.

Hello and thank you for reading my post.

Best regards.

u1 cmd.exe> means: I'm running "cmd.exe" as "u1".

A:Run "cmd.exe" as a given user and "as administrator" in command line

Hi Lea,

I don't believe that what you want to accomplish is possible. This is because Windows only "runs" one login at a time, unlike some true multi user operating systems, such as Linux.

If your logged in as U1, then you can only perform operations as U1, or as the Administrator. As far as running things as the Administrator is concerned, I believe in this case that you simply inherit the Administrators permission levels, thus permitting you to perform elevated activities.

If your U1 login has Administrator privileges then running as Administrator will be no different to running as U1!

Good luck

I'm getting this error msg on Rollback Rx

"you have exceeded the maximum number of authorized activations" Now the application won't work. What do I do? I checked the website and this issue isn't listed.

A:Roillback Rx :""you have exceeded the maximum number of authorized activations"

Are you using the 'free trial version' ? 'cos that might have a limited number of activations built in. If you're using the paid version have you contacted customer support http://www.rollbacksoftware.com/contact.php ?

On one worksheet, when I tab across on any given row, it works fine until I get to the "L" column.
After reaching the "L" column and pressing the tab key, the highlighted cell returns to the "A" column and the next row down.
This is the only worksheet doing this.
Any suggestions on how to correct it?
Thank you for your help.

My apologies if this has been discussed (and hopefully solved) in the past.
Windows 8 FILE EXPLORER has begun prompting me that it "can't find" or items "do not exist" when I try to manipulate the files in any manner.
Of course they DO exist and oddly, if I repeat the command, the job gets done.

So...the functions seem to work, but I must repeat them and deal with this pesky prompt.

I am reluctant to use System Restore as I have made some time consuming changes to my OS since this problem started and do no suspect it will be successful.

scannow did not find any errors.

I use Firefox and am 64 bit.

ummm.... interesting issue but old... thought microsoft would give a fix for it in win8 but they didnt.... the problem deals with your file indexing..

go to start ,type indexing options , verify whether your file's extension is indexed in your PC or not , for more you could read this article... it actually is based on win7 but will work on win8 too

I've had Office2 (computer) synchronizing its time with Alex (computer) for years; but, I just noticed a problem with it. I'm using the following command in a batch file:

Net Time \\Alex /Set /Yes

Problem is when the time on Alex is 10:00 PM, the time on Office2 gets set for 9:00 PM every time the batch is run, one hour behind Alex. I tried resetting Office2 to the correct time manually; but, when the batch is run, it backs it up exactly one hour every time.

Two questions:

Why is this happening?

How do I fix it?

I did a search for fixing command.exe and found loads of posts. However they all seem to differ. Are there any "general" instructions, or is it all dependent upon what is installed on the system. Either way, i need some help, my little laptop is in bad shape.

Thanks for any assistance ya'll can provide, I'm dead in the water right now (IE: I know better than to try to do any banking or other sensitive stuff)

Hello Everybody!

I don't know if this is a real issue, or just one of those "What the . . . .!!" situations. You judge.

I was working on a batch file that combines two .txt (ASCII?) files created in Notepad to create a composite file, and I noticed something really interesting. (And yes, when someone talks about doing something and the result is "really interesting", it's time to duck and hunt cover! )

Assume that there are two text files: "This.txt" and "That.txt", and they contain the text "This[cr-lf]" and "That[cr-lf]", where [cr-lf] is used to indicate a newline generated by hitting the "Enter/Return" key on the keyboard.

If you look at the files with a hex editor, what you see is something like this:
The file "This.txt" contains the text "This" followed by 0x0D0A, which are the ascii codes for CR and LF.
The file "That.txt" contains the text "That" followed by the same CR and LF characters.
Note that these two files contain nothing else.

Issue I discovered:
When I execute the command copy /y ".\This.txt"+".\That.txt" ".\This&That.txt", I do not get the simple concatenation of the two files, which is what I would expect. Instead I get the two files concatenated, (including the trailing CR/LF's as I would expect), but also one additional character, the hex character for a right-arrow symbol - 0x1A. In e... Read more

I have basic knowledge of the command terminal, in that I only know how to navigate through directories. Currently I am trying to execute the following:

java ?jar MRTBatch.jar ?d input_directory ?p parameter_directory\input_parameter_file ?o parameter_file_directory

I have already navigated to the correct directory to make use of the MRTBatch.jar tool, however the problem arises with my user inputs, which are of the form "C:\Users\My Name\Rest of path". I keep getting the error:

ERROR: Could not find directory "C:\Users\My Name".

When navigating directories earlier I always had to go find the file I wanted, copy its path location, paste it into the command terminal, and then erase the "C:\" portion (so it became cd\Users\My Name\Rest of path) for it to work. So when I got this error I have tried multiple edits for it to recognize the paths. Could it be as simple as switching the direction of the slashes? I would have thought the complete path name would always be best. Is it because I'm already burrowed down so far that it cant seem to recognize any file further back?

Here are the directions I am following, pg 40 titles "Automated Batch Processing": https://lpdaac.usgs.gov/sites/default/files/public/mrt41_usermanual_032811.pdf

A:Command Prompt Error: "Cannot find directory "C:\Users\..."

Web site URLs use the forward slash / while path statements in the OS use the backslash \.

Your problem just may be that it needs to start from the root of the drive or C:\. If it starts at the standard Command Prompt it will already be looking below/inside C:\Users\your name\.
