How to completely uninstall Handbrake (or any program)

Q: How to completely uninstall Handbrake (or any program)

Hi. Until yesterday, I had Handbrake 10.2 installed. On launch, a message appeared (within the GUI) inviting me to click for 10.3. Which I did. I can't recall the exact sequence of events but it appeared to have gone smoothly and I was left with a popup saying Do you really want to uninstall 10.2? I said Yes as that seemed logical.

I then went to open up 10.3 ? nothing there. The only Handbrake related file I could find was a defunct link to the shortcut I had on my desktop. Ah well, so off I went and downloaded the 10.3 installer. But before I ran it, I used regedit to delete all registry entries referring to Handbrake. That way, my PC would be 'clean' right?

After the install, 10.3 launched and immediately showed a message about my previous presets and there it was ? 10.3 had the custom preset that I'd made with 10.2! Not only that, but 10.3 was able to load a DVD with DRM protection. To do that with 10.2, I had to copy a 'special' dll file into Program Files/Handbrake.

It seems I was mistaken then. Uninstalling a program and then deleting registry entries doesn't 'clean' your PC. Otherwise, my Handbrake 10.3 wouldn't have known about my old preset nor would it have the 'special' dll file.

So how DO you completely remove a program?

Preferred Solution: How to completely uninstall Handbrake (or any program)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My computer came with a well-known anti virus program, which I uninstalled in order to use a different one. Now (years later), I am trying to install a different program that is saying I need to uninstall the original one that I had already uninstalled. I went to the program listing, and there it was still listed, but showing no disk space used. I cannot get rid of that listing in the program list, so cannot install the new program. Can someone help me with this? I am pretty much a computer idiot, so please be kind and very specific with instructions.

I downloaded a freeware game , which I liked very much , but which also has a " glitch" in the early levels . I contacted the creators, who kindly advised I install a new "corrected " copy ... Problem - even though I have " removed" the program , which originally took 1 hour to download , my brand new laptop "remembers " the program and reinstalls it within 30 seconds ! Obviously, this is NOT the new version, for the glitch is still there ! How do I get around this ? I ran a search each time after I had removed/uninstalled this game and came out empty, but still the rapid re-installation. Any Help ? Thanks ! Twentycats .

I use a freeware programme called revo uninstaller to remove difficult programmes,it also removes leftovers in the registry. Its fairly easy to use and has different levels for removal.Safe etc wich you can decide yourself.Available at revouninstaller .com.Just a query, did you get the game from a reputable site.Just the idea of something selfreplicating sounds alarm bells.Anyway give revo a go and see what happens, that might sort your problems.

Hi: I've been reviewing Sandbox programs recently and one of the ones I looked at is a program called SafeSpace. For several reasons I decided to remove it from consideration. To date, I've been unable to fully uninstall the program. Mainly under C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Artificial Dynamics. This folder, and its sub-folders, take up 66MB of disk space, and I've not been able to remove them. I've posted on a few other forums and have tried a number of suggestions such as try again, use Revo, make sure you take ownership of the folders, etc. Nothing has worked. I've even tried one of those delete at next boot to see if I could get rid of the folders before windows got a hold of them. No luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated. This folder is essentially the virtual drirve that SafeSpace created during the install. There are barely any files, so I assume the space is being reserved more than actually occupied. I get Windows error messages saying things like the name of the folder or files are too long. Revo shows that only Explorer has hold of the folders. It thinks it successfully removed the lock, but again nothing. Thanks -SA Jack

Hello! Long story short I made a post on here asking about an error, but apparently nobody knew a solution, so I looked further into it myself. When I go to the Store and choose Account > My apps, this is what I see.

It says there are four apps that are on my pc, yet it also says that they're not installed? I think this is why it's giving me the 80073cf0 error that I mentioned before. How would I go about completely deleting these apps from my computer? Like which folder do I go into and what do I delete? Thanks

I uninstalled it using "Program Features" and it was removed, but now my printer does not appear on the task bar and I cannot access the Properties to change settings there. Next, I tried system restore to before the program installed but the printer still does not function correctly. Should I consider undoing system restore and then uninstalling and reinstalling the printer? Is there another way to get rid of what still might be remaining of the Network Magic program?

Hi pakratt,

Try uninstalling your printer program and reinstall. You can search for Network Magic remaining junk with Search in the start menu, just search everywhere-advanced- include non indexed, hidden. Or you could reinstall it and use Revo Uninstaller on Advanced setting to get rid of it. Then run SFC. You might want to run a through malware scan just in case, as this program seems to be not very honest.

Its not advisable to try to remove IE totally as it is integrated into Windows. Now that you have got it all screwed up by installing IE8 you may need to use a restore Point to get you back to the way it was.

Hello slobbadobba,

You could use an option in the tutorial below to remove or disable this from running at startup. I'd try Option One first to see if it's listed to be disabled since that would be the easiest way.

Startup Items - Manage in Windows 8

Afterwards, check in Programs and Features for any other listed installed item that may be for this program running at startup as well.

Hope this helps for now,

Hi,

having been infected with what turned out to be the [email protected] rootkit, I naively followed the steps outlined in the thread http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=57224. I got so far that I downloaded and renamed ComboFix.exe to Combo-Fix.exe on my Desktop (as described in the thread) and ran it (and allowed it to update itself to a newer version when it asked to), before I realized that this wasn't something you should do without professional help.

So I stopped there and started to go through the preparation guide http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic34773.html, saw that gmer reported I had [email protected] so I downloaded aswMBR.exe from http://digitalchunk.com/tdl4-rootkit-removal.htm, ran it and then the "address blocked" warnings from my ESET NOD32 Antivirus stopped appearing.

Then I tried to uninstall ComboFix as decribed in the original thread (http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=57224), but there's still a folder named Combo-Fix on my C:-drive which wasn't removed. So I downloaded ComboFix.exe again and ran ComboFix /Uninstall (didn't help), I downloaded it again and renamed it to Combo-Fix.exe when I saved it to my Desktop (as described in the original thread) and ran Combo-Fix /Uninstall from my Dekstop folder, but the C:\Combo-Fix folder is still there.

Can I just delete the folder or how should I properly get rid of it?

Very greatful for help,

MarkusH

You should never follow specific instructions provided to someone else especially if they are almost a year old. Those instructions were most likely given under the guidance of a trained staff helper to fix that particular member's problems, NOT YOURS after careful evaluation of the malware involved. Before taking any action, the helper must investigate the nature of the infection and then formulate a fix for the victim. Although your problem may be similar, the solution could be different based on the kind of hardware, software, system requirements, etc. and the presence of other malware which means the degree of infection can vary. Using someone else's fix instructions could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system. Please download OTC by OldTimer and save to your Desktop.Connect to the Internet and double-click on OTC.exe to start the program.Click on the green CleanUp! button. If you get a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTC attempting to contact the Internet, please allow the connection. When it has finished, OTC will ask you to reboot so it can remove itself.-- Doing this will remove any specialized tools downloaded and used. If OTC does not delete itself, then delete the file manually when done.-- Any leftover folders/files related to ComboFix which were not remove can be deleted manually (right-click on them and choose delete).

well, how do i do it then?

A:how do i uninstall programs completely?

Start by going to the control panel, add remove programs and searching down the list for the program you want to remove. you'll note once you select the program that there should appear an option to remove the program. select it and uninstall.

If it's a windows application, ie something that Microsoft supplied to run inside windows, there is an additional menu at the side to be selected for installed Windows Components

On other occasions you'll find an uninstall program in the same folder where the program was installed, whilst other times you may be asked to supply a link to the program (sometimes .msi) that was used to do the installation.

I recently discovered that I had over 1/2 Gbyte being taken up by .DLL files, so I downloaded what seemed to be a reputable utility named "DLLArchive" by "AnalogX" that promised to "clean-out" .DLL files that had been left behind by installed & then uninstalled programs.

http://www.analogx.com/contents/news.htm

HUGE mistake

After using the program, on reboot, the system immediately failed to launch, requiring a "Repair Install" of WinXP Pro. The launch error was a missing "HALL.DLL" file.

(Rant Begins)
I am no expert, but even I know that the HAL.DLL is critical. I can't believe this sorry, misbegotten excuse for a Utility even LOOKED at that file, much less "archived" what was supposed to be a "useless" DLL file, leaving my system with NOTHING to even boot the system. How stupid. I sincerely hope that someday the author of this software becomes one it's victims.
(Rant Ends)

Even after the repair install, the messed-up DLL's having been causing constant problems. Even though they are "archived", you still have to figure out which one is missing and where it belongs.

Most of the problems are solved, but Internet Explorer refuses to act right. Windows Update is the primary problem. It downloads, but refuses to install. So I decided to uninstall & reinstall IE6 6.0.

I tried to do it by using my XP install disk and remove the software. It seemed to go okay. ... Read more

A:how to completely uninstall vista

You can boot from the XP install CD, delete the partition(s), then create new one(s) and install XP

Before you do that . . check to see that XP drivers are available for the laptop.

I've done this on several machines . . My reccomended way to do all this is to buy a new drive, take the original out and put the new one in and install XP . . that way, If you ever want to revert to Vista, you just change the drives.

You can set up a dual boot, but it's easier if you first install XP, then Vista.

I have really liked using Comodo Firewall Pro 3 x64 the last few months. It has done it's job well for me. However my overall goal has been, that when finances allow, I would buy a different, hopefuly as equally functional software firewall as Comodo. I run Vista Home Basic x64 by the way.

But I've run into some troubles. First I uninstalled Comodo using my Total Uninstaller utility, which does a pretty good job of getting rid of all of the leftovers. After that I even did a manual check for leftover folders and files and I scanned my registry for leftovers using Registry Workshop.

I was very careful to remove only entries that I thought were safe, and yes I do know what I'm doing with the registry. Then I installed Outpost Firewall Pro triall x64, but am even having some problems with that now loading a certain file. I have written Agnitum about that. in the meantime I'm probably will go ahead and uninstall the Outpost until I hear from them.

Also, I just happened to check Device Manager, to see if everything was ok in there. It wasn't. Under Network Adapters, it shows my onboard VIA Rhine II ethernet installed and working just fine.
But under that are are five references to Comodo Firewall Miniport, each with a yellow exclamation mark on them.

I right-clicked and tried to uninstall them along with the driver, but nothing happened. They're still there. I even tried disabling them, but they're already disabled. There seems to be no way t... Read more

I installed a software two days ago. Now I wish to uninstall it completely and want my PC to be in the state as it was before installing it. A simple uninstall may leave some of the backdoor components installed by this software. Unfortunately, Windows 10 has System Restore off by default which I forgot, so can't use the System Restore.

A:how to completely uninstall a software

Sorry, there is no simple way -- as installing any application typically involves writing files to lots of different folders and adding entries to the Registry, as well.

There are third--party Uninstallers that claim to be able to do this. One I've seen referenced a lot is Revo Uninstaller: http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_..._download.html

There may be others, as well -- since I don't use these, I don't know about them -- but others here may be able to provide other suggestions.

Good Luck

Hello,

I recently installed the driver and software for my girlfriend's printer, attempting to make an old non-wireless hp psc1500 work over our home network and print wirelessly. Well that failed miserably and caused all kinds of issues for my win 7 pc that you good people here helped me resolve.

So I uninstalled the printer through add/remove programs, but when I search the whole computer for "hp", over 1,400 files are returned totaling about 500mb, most of which are obviously left over from the failed hp printer install.

How do I completely remove these remnants, without accidentally deleting system files and other things accidentally? I simply don't have enough computer knowledge to be able to pick the right ones, and I installed Revo and CCleaner after the initial uninstall, so they are not picking up anything.
TIA

Brian

Very carefully I would assume what you are seeing is the directory where the installer was decompressed. If this is the case you can safely delete this and the install directory. Use caution if you have any other drivers or software from HP.

I am new to computers let alone help forums, so I will try to explain what I am asking the best that I can.

I told her to go to add and remove and uninstall, and she did but still had incredimail pop up. then I told her to go to search for files and folders and remove all that can be that has incredimail in it, and she has but still keeps getting pop up's saying she has mail.

I don't know where to tell her to go or try next if anyone can give us an ideal as to where to look next. thank you so much for your help.

And i tried to delete the entry with CCleaner but it didnt work.

sergiogarcia9, boot into safe mode then un-hide all folders and files. Follow the path to the application and see if you can delete it.

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 running Windows XP Home Edition SP3

While in safe mode, I uninstalled the antivirus software by HAURI called ViRobot 5.0. It is no longer in the add/remove programs list. When I attempted to install another antivirus software (AVG), it stated that ViRobot was still running. I opened the security center and the Virus Protection stated ViRobot was up to date and virus scanning in on. After several e-mails with HAURI, they stated it was a Windows problem. So here I am trying to eliminate a bleeping program on my bleeping computer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi all,

I've got a user who has done a terrible thing. When confronted by a probelm, they have used their initiative and made it much worse.

Ok - initial scenario.
User has Office 2000 Premium installed but no disks.
User gets disks and wants to reinstall using those disks.
Control Panel won't let the user remove Office and asks for original disk. The disk that the user has is not accepted.

User manually deletes the Office folder.
User then runs Eraser 2000.

When user tries to reinstall office, an error message appears saying that because Office 2000 is already installed, the installation will fail and that they must modify using control panel.

User then goes into the registry and deletes the Office folder.

Still the same message.

As far as I know, the user hasn't done anything else - how can I get office installed?

Your help, as always will be greatly appreciated.

i had a weird blue screen error yesterday, i get those sometimes, this one doesnt look different than the other ones. now i cant connect to the internet. im on another device right now.

im not sure what to do and i tried a buncha stuff. i have to assume its a registry thing. how do you completely uninstall all traces of network drivers through registry?

i think this is registry so thats why im not giving specs about my system. i need to do this asap. busted my ass on google the past 24 hours and barely move dforward with this. the network drivers show up on the add/rmove programs list but they're stuck there. they dont show up in network connections. one would show up in device manager but it had a 'packet schedluer miniport' next to it and i got rid of it through registry.
