Outlook Express 6 strips attachments from Outlook 2007 emails

Q: Outlook Express 6 strips attachments from Outlook 2007 emails

I use OE 6 on my desktop running XP pro, but use Outlook 2007 on my laptop running XP home. I cannot receive attachments sent from my Outlook 2007 to my OE 6 when I send it to myself. They are stripped off, not even showing an attachment. The attachment comes through to other recipients as far as I know, INCLUDING my alternate email address (through at&t). So OE 6 receives the attachment when I send it from my default email account to my at&t account, but not when I send it to from and to my default account. I have checked with my email provider, who has checked the server (IMAP) and they do not see any problem--the attachment is on the server. I have already unchecked all potential blocks under the Security Tab--image blocking and attachment blocking--and am operating in the Internet Zone. And, as far as I know, I am receiving attachments from everyone else in the world. I know there are ways to work around this problem, but it is irritating and I have concerns that my email attachments to clients may be unknowingly blocked. Also, I cannot receive those attachments on my Blackberry either.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I use Outlook Express 6 and my current version is 6.00.2800.1123 (it is up to date). My antivirus programme is Norton Antivirus 2003 and i have checked all the settings - it seems to work fine (virus definitions are up to date)

My problem is Outlook strips attachments from known addresses, e.g. my work email - it is very safe (I work for a sensitive government agency in New Zealand). It adds the following line at the top of the email:
"OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your email: xyz.doc"

How can I override this/prevent Outlook to remove the attachments?

Please help!

A:Outlook Express strips my attachments

OE6 has an added feature to protect you form files that could be used to house viruses and trojans. It isn't advised to turn it off, but if you are confident that the attachment you are trying to access is safe, then

Open Outlook Express
Go to Tools | Options
Select the security tab
Uncheck Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus

I'd advise putting the protection back in place, and only allow attachments when you are expecting them. Even your friends and colleagues could get infected.

I work at the helpdesk for a medium sized city government. I have users in a department that are using Outlook Express 6 to receive email on a specific, non-city account off our domain.

There is one particular user that when she sends emails with attachments, they do not go through to the users that are using OE6. Emails go through, just not the attachments. She is sending them from Outlook 2007.

Emails from me to the user with OE6 with attachments go through just fine. It's just from this one particular user who cannot get attachments to go through.

Everything I've read online says that I need to make sure that emails aren't being sent as rich text format, and need to be sent as plain text. I have tried this and the attachments still will not go through for this user. It doesn't seem to be a RTF problem, and appears to be something else. I also haven't found any other possible solution to try.

Can anyone help?

A:Outlook Express 6 won't accept attachments from Outlook 2007

IE and OE are interwoven. First in users IE make sure Internet Security Zone (less secure but more functional is used). Next, in OE>Tools>Options>Security>Virus Protection>Make sure the same allowance was made as in IE, then uncheck "Do not allow attachments to be saved etc".

how do i get the emails from my old pc into outlook 2007 on my new pc?

A:how do i get emails from outlook express 6 into outlook 2007?

I don't use Outlook, but I'd think the general procedure would be to:

1: Export from Outlook Express to location X

2: Open Outlook, use the import function, and navigate to location X.

Is that what you are doing?

Can you export in more than 1 format? If so, try another format.

It's also a good idea to make manual copies of all of your Outlook Express files (dbx, etc) in case your corrupt the originals during the export/import process.

Email export and import functions haven't improved in the last 10 years, so welcome to reality. I hate changing email programs for that reason.

There are applications out there designed to convert DBX to PST, but I don't know if they are required.

Hi all - I'm hoping someone can help me with a problem that has suddenly occurred.
I use Outlook Express 6 with Windows XP Pro 2002, and have had no problems for about 2 years.

Recently, my email started acting up. I can still receive all emails, and send regular emails, but when I try to send an email with an attachment, like a picture, Outlook attempts to send it in about 68 parts. None of the 68 emails received worked, and the attachments come up as name.jpg.dat. My McAfee VirusScan would pop up, trying to stop all the emails, and say that I may have a worm, because of the multiple emails being sent.

I did an internet search of this problem, and found a forum which discussed this as a bug with the McAfee software, which was causing the email to be sent in multiples.
There was no perfect fix for the problem, except to completely uninstall McAfee VirusScan from your computer.

I have now completely uninstalled McAfee (I will be getting Norton). But the problem remains.
Either the solution (uninstalling McAfee) didn't work, or I have a completely different problem. The only other possibility I found was a mention of an after effect of the Happy virus, preventing users from sending emails with attachments, but it said nothing about sending multiple emails.

Anyone have any idea???

I have read through other threads seen on this topic - still no joy.
If I send an email with attachment around 1MB or larger Outlook continues to send multiple copies until I physically remove from outbox. It sent 99 copies of the email to one recipient and only ceased because the administrator at my friend's work blocked me. Today I removed that version of 2007 Office and reloaded a different copy (MS Office Enterprise 2007). Problem still exists. I am at wits end...and losing friends quickly...well not quite.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

I have a client that has Windows 2000 pro machine. When using Outlook Express they send an email with an attachment. it will send anywhere from 13 to 41 emails. The emails are the same but the attachments extension has an extra extension added. An example sample.doc email sends sample.doc.dat All the emails that I have seen the dat extension was added. I thought this was a virus and scanned but found nothing.Does not appear to be Spyware or adware problem. This has been happening for about two weeks. It doesn't do this to every email with an attachment but almost always. I reran internet explorer setup files. to reinstalled Internet Explorer and Outlook Express and that failed to help.Need more info just ask. A big thanks for any help you can give.

A:Outlook express sends multiple emails with attachments and adds an extra extension???

Under Tools - Accounts - [select your account] - Properties - Advanced - Uncheck "break apart messages larger than..." and all should come right.

It is splitting the attachments into bite size pieces. Multiple emails with each bite result.

Help - anyone - please help.

I have puchased a new PC with Windows 7 Pro. My old machine has XP Pro on which I have been using Oulook Express. I want to move my emails from OE to a PST which I can then use with Oulook2007 on the machine with Windows 7. I have tried to export them from OE... which appear to work.. but doesnt transfer all the email in the sent folder. There are 3500 message in the sent folder... and when the epxort has finished... I look in the sent folder in outlook... and find that only 3000 (ish) have been imported... leaving the most recent 500 emails out. I have also tried doing the import direct from Outlook... and again.. it appears to work,.. but on closer examination... the last 500 emails in the sent items dont get imported.

Does anyone have any ideas ???? Thanks in advance !

A:Move emails from Outlook Express to Oulook 2007

Hello and welcome to TSG.

More of a possible work around than a solution, but would this work?

1) With Outlook Express closed, make a backup copy of the Sent Items.dbx file to some other location on the hard drive (Just in case something goes drastically wrong)

2) In Outlook Express, create a local folder called Sent_1

3) Move about half of the messages in the local Sent Items folder to the new Sent_1 folder

4) Compact the Sent Items folder

5) Have Outlook 2007 import both "Sent" Folder files

6) In Outlook 2007, copy the contents of the imported Sent_1 folder to the imported Sent Items folder.

7) Check the Sent Items folder in Outlook 2007 to make sure nothing is missing. If it all looks good, you can delete the backup copy created in step #1.

I use outlook express and have a rule set where any emails that come to my primary email account, except from certain addresses, are automatically moved to a folder and then forwarded to another email address. When the rule forwards the email, it strips the header from the original sender and makes it appear that it comes from the receiving account. For example:

My primary account is "[email protected]". Let's say that [email protected] sends an email to [email protected]. My automatic rule will take joe's email, place it in my "press" folder and then forward it off to [email protected]. When Jane gets the email and opens it, the header of the email shows that is was sent from [email protected] and the header that shows it was originally from [email protected] is missing.

Now, if I remove the automatic rule and manually forward the email to Jane, the email will contain the original header from [email protected] and show that it was forwarded from [email protected].

Is there a setting or toggle that I can select so that when I use the automatic rule, the original header from [email protected] will appear? The original header is only missing when an email is forwarded via my automatic rule. Or, is this a case where there is no fix and that if I use an automatic rule to forward an email, the original header will never be posted?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi smelsco

Is AVG E-mail scanning enabled?

First try adjusting your Server Timeout settings:

In Outlook Express:
Tools > Accounts > Mail tab > (AccountName) > Properties
On the Advanced tab, adjust the Server Timeout settings to at least 2 minutes.
If you still receive the Timeout error, adjust the Server Timeout to 5 minutes.

If the Timeout error persists with the Server Timeout set to 5 minutes, try disabling AVG from checking outgoing emails.

Double click the AVG icon in the System Tray.
Right click the E-mail Scanner component,
Properties > Plugins tab > Configure button
Uncheck: Check outgoing mail
OK, OK to save and close.

I've installed Office 2003 on my PC - all working fine, mail migrated to Outlook etc. However, when I send an attachment from any program (Excel, Word etc) using the File, Send To command (which I have to do, because one is an Access database and so it's an embedded command) it defaults to Outlook Express.

I've tried renaming the msimn.exe file, which merely greyed out all of the options in the Send To box.

Anyone know how I can get them all to look to Outlook?

I'm trying to help a friend open text (txt) attachments in Outlook Express that he receives from people who are apparently sending them via Outlook. When we open them (in Notepad), they contain only some header information. All of these many messages are only about 2 or 3 kb, so, obviously, this is all there is to the received messages. Is there some trick to receiving the whole message? Is the problem in his XP computer, the ISP or the sender's machine? I'm getting nowhere in trying to discern the problem. I'm writing this on a Windows 7 Professional machine with Incredimail; what I learn here must be relayed to his XP.

I've searched the forum and it seems my need is a little different than the posts which have already been made.

I have an old XP laptop which I was using Outlook Express for one of my mail accounts (a work account). I also ran regular Outlook for another (personal). I want to have both of these accounts on my new PC.

My new PC is running Windows 7 wiht Office 2007. I used the Windows transfer cable and things worked failry well. My regular Outlook files all came over well, but nothing for Outlook Express.

I really would like to take this time to somehow export my OE files into my Outlook 2007. I would really like to keep the account which imported in on Outlook seperate.

Question 1: Is there a way to import my OE files into Outlook 2007?

Question 2: Is there a way to have two seperate email accounts in Outlook without combining them? Basically I want to have a work email and a personal and keep them seperate.

If I can't have two seperate emails with Outlook, can anyone suggest something which would allow me to export my old Outlook (the old personal emails) into another program so that I can at least use my work email on Outlook 2007?

Hopefully this isn't too confusing.

A:Export Outlook Express XP into Outlook 2007 Windows 7?

If it's possible then I suspect it's far more likely you'd do it using an import feature in Outlook 2007 as opposed to an export feature in OE6, and I doubt the change of operating system really has much influence on this.

I'm not running Office 2007 on the machine in front of me, otherwise I'd check some of the options myself for you - but if you look at the import menu in Outlook 2007 (or if you're really stuck, the help files!) then I feel certain they'll be an answer already waiting for you

Outlook Express 2003 - will not send emails with attachments (specifically Word or Excel documents, it seems that pdf's, jpeg will go)
Operating on XP - fully updated.
Emails without attachments go when at the head of the queue - no problem
Any email with an attachment at the top of the queue just sits there trying to send.
I cannot delete it, I cannot force delete it (Shift - DEL) I cannot drag it anywhere.
However if I exit Outlook and go back in I still cannot delete it but I can move it (to Deleted items) this is before it tries to do a send/receive.
I have done repair on Office 2003 installation and reinstalled Outlook 2003.
I have set up a replacement email account and a new account - problem still persists.
I have gone in as a different user on the machine - problem persists.
Antivirus detects no problems.

I am out of ideas - any help / suggestions most welcome.

I keep getting a message in my new computer using Vista and Outlook 2007 that reads as follows: "Message 1220. Windows Mail is transferring your mail accounts and messages from Outlook Express. Folder: adobe.photoshop.windows."

The message then starts transferring something, gets about 40% complete, and then stops with a Not Responding message.

Any ideas on how I can get rid of this?

A:Outlook 2007 and Outlook Express Message

This sound like Outlook 2007 is attempting to transfer messages over from a "public folder" or Usenet newgroup folder by the name of "adobe.photoshop.windows" as provided. Has Windows' Scandisk and Defrag been run recently? If not, try these first before embarking on other suggestions listed below.

Otherwise the simplest fix I can think of is close Outlook 2007, launch Outlook Express and delete the folder or newsgroup from within Express. If you absolutely need to preserve the messages related to this folder / newsgroup, try searching for "*adobe.photoshop.windows*.*" from within Windows' Search > For Files or Folders... (if located), determine the filename extension and rename it to ".OLD" then restart Outlook Express and verify the messages no longer appear within that program.

If "adobe.photoshop.windows" is not found anywhere on the hard drive, I suggest sticking with deleting the folder from within Outlook Express itself as the only user-friendly (simple) option.

After all of the above is done, go ahead with launching Outlook 2007 and allow it to transfer the files it needs from Outlook Express.

Other suggestions may apply as well depending on the specific nature of the "adobe.photoshop.windows" object in question.

Just install it. If you're asking where you can buy it, you'll have to search around since Office 2010 is now out. Outlook is only included in the higher end versions of the Office suite. It's not included in the Home and Student edition.

It looks like Amazon is still selling Office 2007 Standard.

Or you can buy Outlook 2010.

Upgraded both our Desktop & Laptop to Windows 10 in the past few months.
Last week I tried to access some Outlook emails that were more than two years old, the attachments & emoticons do not appear. This is on both PC's & the same result using Edge, IE or Chrome.

I installed Windows Live Mail & now I can see all the attachments & emoticons. Forwarded some of the emails from Live Mail to myself & now in Outlook the attachments/emoticons all appear as well (all three browser Edge, IE & Chrome). So say for instance I have a 2 & 1/2 year old email in a Outlook folder that will not display attachments/emoticons but the very same email just forwarded from Live Mail to my Outlook inbox now displays all attachments & emoticons

Tried inspecting elements but really have no idea what I'm doing. See msgs regarding HTML, Java Script in Edge? Don't have either Java or Silverlight installed, guess the newer browsers are moving towards HTML.

So can anyone help me to understand what is happening?

Thank you as always

A:attachments for old emails don't show up in outlook

When I inspect element on these pictures & emoticons it looks to me as if they are associated img file type.
According to the Default File Type Associations - Restore in Windows 10 Tutorial I see img file type has a description of CD or DVD image file no Default App.

So grasping at straws here am wondering if I point the .reg for img to Microsoft Edge as the html file types are - might that possibly open the pictures inside Outlook? How would I point img file type to Microsoft Edge?
In fact when I browse Choose Default Apps by File Type in Settings I cannot find .img? Goes right from .imesx to .inc. Should there be .img there?

Not very good with registry, sorry.

thank you

My Sent Items and Inbox folders became filled with emails on Tuesday and I was unable to send or receive emails until I removed several thousand old emails from both folders (which I did, then the system was running fine again as of late Tuesday). I discovered this problem when I attempted to send 3 emails with attachments, making the emails around 5 megabytes each in size (I did not realize that the recipient's system could not handle any email more than 2 megabytes - thus, my Outlook Express kept trying to send these emails every 1 minute for 3 hours until I discovered the problem). I had to delete around 100 email notifications that the recipient could not receive emails at that size and that my email boxes were full.

I corrected these problems and relocated the emails from my Outlook Box to Drafts (until the recipient can change his settings).

She says the firewall is switched on but thats no good to me, lol.
Can someone help me step by basic step how to find out remotely what the problem is just with her on the other end of the phone.

I can blunder my way around a computer with some basic knowledge but in all fairness when my friends have IT issues they come to me as they've no clue how to search for answers online.

All help would be much appreciated!!!

When some of our users print off a HTML email in outlook 2003 it doesn't print the header to the email or any of the attachments. As the header contains all the information about when the emails was sent this is really important when printing the email off to put with the contract.

Just to be clear, it's not the actual attachment that we need to print off, just the email with the header and the attachments showing as icons.

The machines are running XP Pro SP2 outlook 2003 sp2 and the server is on Exchange 2003 enterprise sp2.

Any help will be greatly apprieciated as this problem has been annoying me for ages and I cant find anything on the net about it.

Do you have IE 7 on these computers ? Try uninstalling IE 7 on one of the computers and see if it works. If it does , then that will be the problem. I think there is a patch of a hotfix for that.

Hi All
My Outlook Express 5.5 has decided to open my email attachments in notepad or word pad. It does open the picture attachments ok only word attachments in one of the "pads" . Does anyone know how to get back to normal ?

A:Outlook Express Attachments

What would be normal behavior? What type of attachments is this happening with? Files with a .DOC extension? Do you have Microsoft Word installed? Can you launch it without errors?

If these files are Word documents, and you have Microsoft Word installed and functioning, follow these steps.

1. Right-click the attachment and choose Save or Save As.
2. Save it to a location on your hard drive.
3. Go to that location.
4. Click on the file once to highlight it
5. Hold down the shift key, and right-click on the file.
6. Choose Open With.
7. Select WINWORD.
8. Place a check mark in the box "Always use this program to open this type of file."
9. Click the OK button.

Recently updated to OE 6 via download. Now when my student loan company sends me a notice I can't open the attachment. I get a notice which says "OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail:".

This even has locked me out of attachments that I had previously opened and knew were fine.

Any idea why this happened or what I can do about it?

Oh yea, Dell laptop, Win98SE, and the attachments are pdf files.

Thanks in advance

Have you just updated IE6 to the new Service Pack 1? If so, have a look at this:

Hi all,

Got the wierdest thing going on. On one of our Outlook Express accounts, any attachment we try to add to an outgoing email has its suffix changed to ".lnk". So, we do an attachment of, say, a ".doc", and it shows up in the email as a ".lnk". Strange thing is, it only seems to be happening to one account. The others seem to be behaving just fine. I've checked all of the security settings, run through the OE help files, looked in the MS knowledgebase, etc. I could have missed something, of course, but I haven't had any luck.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Try removing and re-adding the account in outlook that should clear out any of the settings if its doing it for just one of the accounts.

I cannot find the answer to my problem anywhere and hope that someone out there can help.

I run both Word and WordPro (in Widows XP home) and use both for their different qualities.

Every single time I download an attachment which has been sent to me in Word, OE opens WordPro and consequently often the text is incomprehensible, especially if there are photos or tables included.

Also, when I send attachments typed in Word, although the recipients can open them without a problem, I am unable to check before sending that they are OK as once again WordPro appears to be the default.

Is there any way (without uninstalling WordPro) that I can make the computer use only Word in OE.

I'd be very grateful for any advice.
