Yoga 910 - Shortcut to toggle hotkey functionality?

Q: Yoga 910 - Shortcut to toggle hotkey functionality?

Using Lenovo settings to switch off Hotkeys is slow and requires multiple clicks. Is it possible to switch on and off hotkey mode more quickly, e.g. with a shortcut key combination? How would I do this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have made a clean install due to a plethroa of software bugs that my Windows installation was experiencing. I have reinstalled windows using the offcial Windows 10 install media creator, and Windows activated itself digitally when I signed into my Microsoft account. I installed all the Windows 10 updates, along with all the drivers found on the support page for my Yoga 730 15-IKB. I am looking to get back Yoga Mode Control (Which doesn;t appear to be installed or working, although Windows Continuum is working) and the hotkey popups that appear onscreen when Caps Lock, Num Lock, airplane mode etc is toggled from the keyboard shortcuts. Furthermore, some of the hotkeys are not working in general, such as the Camera Privacy, Microphone mute, Airplane mode toggle etc. I believe this would be dude to a missing driver, however I cannot seem to find anything that works. Any help would be greately appreciated. Many thanks, Pedro

Edit: See second post. Found script for AutoHotKey but not sure how to compile or use it ? Also when ever I plug a USB device in it changes default sound device from Line 1 to SRS.. I usually plug my Smartphone on for charge every day using USB so it gets annoying.

I'm using two audio enhancement plug-ins SRS Audio Sandbox & Breakaway Audio Enhancer. SRS uses Realtek HD Audio Output while breakaway uses SRS Audio Sandbox and when I load my computer for the first time SRS automatically sets SRS Audio Sandbox (WDM) as the default sound device meaning each time I have to open playback devices and change the default sound device back to Line 1 (Breakaway Pipeline) in order for the sound to work.

There seems to be no way to disable SRS from changing the sound device when it starts/loads for the first time so is their a way I can a hotkey shortcut key to simply change default sound device to Line 1 ?

Audio Device: Breakaway
Input > Breakaway Pipeline 1
Output > SRS Audio Sandbox
Audio Device: SRS Audio Sandbox
Input > SAS is the default sound card
Output > Realtek HD Audio Output

Thanks

A:How to toggle between default sound device using hotkey

Source:
Windows 7 Tip: How to change the default audio device with a hotkey

Windows Vista and 7 have a new audio subsystem, with lots of neat features. It is not, however, without its quirks. One such quirk is the inability to automatically change the default audio device; you must do it manually.
This means that if you have both headphones and speakers plugged into your computer, whenever you want to pipe all sound through the headphones you must right-click the volume icon, select Playback devices, go to the device you wish to set as default, right-click it, and select Set as Default Device. Sounds like fun, right? Now try doing this 5-6 times a day.
Incredibly enough, I could find no command-line utilities to automate this simple operation. I thought I might build something myself, so I started digging deeper. It turns out Microsoft seems to have done this by design; they wanted to prevent programs from changing the default audio device on users, because this can lead to a very bad experience (imagine a game which suddenly changes the audio to the speakers, when you wanted to listen to it using your earbuds).
I did try a couple of utilities which claimed to do this, but they were really bad. At this point, I did what I do every time the going gets rough: I turned to AutoHotkey. This amazing free automation program has a solution for just about anything, and indeed, AHK user Veabers already created the exact script I wanted in 14 elegant lines of code. Thi... Read more

The only built-in way to manually disconnect and reconnect in Windows 7 that I've been able to find, requires a lot of mouse clicks and even on my Core-i7 steel nerves when it starts "troubleshooting" to reconnect very slowly.

I found a better way and because lots of people in several forums have been asking for it I hope it's going to be a Sticky.

Download http://itsamples.com/downloads/network-activity-indicator.zip (always scan downloads for viruses)
Activate it, it will show up as the Windows XP network activity monitor in the tray.
Right click it and click Network Connections.
You've now opened an explorer Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Network Connections.
(I'm sorry, I found no other decent way to get to here)

Lets say you want a connect/disconnect Local Area Connection toggle on your desktop. You simply right-drag Local Area Connection from this control panel to your desktop, once you release your mouse button click on Create Shortcut. You can create such toggle shortcuts for every network connection that shows up in the list.. A simple double-click on the freshly made desktop item connects or disconnects whenever you like.

If you don't like the XP style network activity indicator, feel free to remove it now. But remember, once you close the Network Connections window, there is no decent way in Windows 7 to reopen it. As far as I know only the Network Activity Monitor knows how to do that. By the way, I do like the visual indicator of n... Read more

hi

i am hoping i can setup a hotkey or a shortcut, that will automatically print a file.

it is for a computer on the shop floor where i work. we have a folder containing PDF files which need to be printed throughout the day. can i assign a file to each of the F1-F12 keyboard keys to print each document out when pressed???

so when F1 is pressed, it will print the file, or open the PDF, print, then close the PDF?
if this is not possible in a standard XP OS, is there an app capable of doing it?

thanks in advance.

Right now I know I have shortcuts from Windows, Evernote, a screen capture utility and probably a few other programs.

Does anyone know how to go one step further and create a desktop shortcut (or hotkey) to the speaker setup page where you choose your audio channels? (ie/ where you choose between Stereo, 5.1 Surround, 7.1 Surround, etc.) It's one click after getting to the Playback page. After getting to the Playback page, you'd click "Configure" to get there. It's this page here:

I need to switch quickly between "Stereo" and "5.1 Surround" and I'd like to get here with a single click (or hotkey). Does anyone know?

A:How to create a desktop shortcut (or hotkey) to speaker setup page?

Hi Outlier

You can usually drag the item name onto the desktop with a right click.

1 Click on the globe bottom left of taskbar

2 Type the word speakers or whatever into the search box

3 When the list of items appear, Right Click on the one you want and drag it onto the desktop

4 Click create shortcut here.

You can create most shortcuts this way, for instance you can open windows explorer to view your favourite folder, make the explorer window a bit smaller so that there is some desktop showing, right click on the folder, drag it onto the desktop, select create shortcut here from the dropdown and you will then have a shortcut to your folder.

Hope this was useful

I have a Yoga 910-13IKB with BIOS firmware version 2JCN36WW running Ubuntu-64bit 16.04 LTS with a kernel 4.8.0.36. I want to toggle the function keys and it's not possible to do it. In a previous BIOS firmware, there was the toggle option in the configuration menu but it seems that it has disappeared after 2JCN28WW. It has been replaced by the same option in the Lenovo Windows10 settings application. I guess Lenovo wanted to make this option more friendly and moved it from BIOS to the OS but it left aside people not using Windows. So, I started to remap the keyboard in Linux. I have managed to remap and toggle the keys F1, F2, F3 by editing the Xorg config files. At least, I can type F2 directly (without the Fn modifier) in an Excel spreadsheet! Half victory. The problem is that I can't remap and toggle F4 and it was my main objective so that I can close a windows by pressing Alt-F4 and not Fn-Alt-F4. If I run xev in Xorg, I can see the function keys both with and without the Fn modifier reported correctly, except the F4 key! I went to the console and use showkeys (FYI, the mapping of the console is different from the mapping of Xorg) and same problem. I can type and see F1, F2, F3 and the corresponding Fn-keys. I can see Fn-F4 but there is no F4 (alone) reported!!! In other words, the crossed micro key is not reported to Linux. But Fn-F4 is reported so it's not a hardware problem ;-) My guess is that ... I'm using Windows 10.Without any warning wi-fi has not just dropped off but totally disappeared!Under Settings > Network & Internet the item for Wi-Fi no longer appears. The problem is that the Broadcom 802.11 Network Adapter PCIE Full-Dongle has somehow been renoved and despite installing the recommended driver update from the Lenovo website, this is refusing to install but no error message is being displayed. The Device Manager clearly shows the Ethernet device when I connect using wired network which works fine but there are no devices for Broadcom anymore. Bluetooth is ok and I can pair with a phone. I have tried all the troubleshooters, hardware and network, scanned for new hardware, and checked the bios that wireless is enabled. I've also run sfc /scannow and the DISM healthcheck utilities. I checked the event viewer and there was no windows update causing this or any other installation. I'm off to the shops tomorrow to buy a USB dongle as a workaround but seriously, why do issues always occur the week after warranty runs out? Any ideas gurus?

Is this potentially the cause of the touchscreen failure? It seems like it could be a separate issue. Thanks for the help!

Hi Msbenz,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Open your Start menu (or press the Windows Key) and simply type ?Services?. There will be an icon at the top of your list which appears to be two small gears with the name ?Services.? Click that and look what happens next.
there is a permanent fix for this issue by disabling the service called ?TabletServicePen? if you?re using an Intuos/Bamboo or ?Tablet PC Input Service? if you?re using a Cintiq.

In some case, it is reported removal of the wacom touch drivers fixed the problem. That would be under device manager.

If you have a persisting issue after the updates of the drivers and would also have same error codes from the online diagnostics, then best to call Lenovo service center for recommendations.

Please let me know your findings.

Hi - I am very impressed with the yoga 900 except for my security chip...anyone have any luck with windows 10 enterprise & bitlocker on the Yoga 900? In the windows 10 enterprise management console the TPM has the message "The TPM is ready for use, with reduced functionality." From various microsft technical bulletins I've tried to "clear the TPM", "Prepare the TPM" and clearing the TPM at the BIOS level.  Unfortunately, my last move which was flashing the bios to C6CN34WW ended disastrously. Does anyone know if this is an important message about the TPM or a compatibility thing?  I'm in a bit of strange situation because the machine comes from lenovo with windows 10 home. I appreciate your input.  Thanks!

A:Yoga 900 - TPM reduced functionality

Jwucsd,

We haven't heard much about this, but another customer contacted us by email with something that may or may not be related and we are looking into it.

Suggestions I have heard internally, many of which it sounds like you have tried...

1) Ensure Intel Platform Trust Technology is enabled
2) From a command prompt, try "tpm.msc"   Do you get "The TPM is ready for use" message returned, or still with the reduced functionality message?

3) The last suggest suggestion was to run "Clear TPM" but sounds as though you have already done this

Anything else you can share?

Best regards,

Hey everyone, I have one or really two issues, but they may be connected. I bought the Yoga 900 3 months ago and yesterday I found out that the hotkey for disabling the touchpad worked only oneway meaning I pressed it and the touchpad would disable but I couldn't unlock it again no matter how often I pressed the key again (in combination with fn and also without). I needed to go to standby and then log in again for it to be re-enabled. I updated a hotkey driver, and afterwards when I disabled the touchpad with the hotkey it did still not work. So I went into standby and the whole laptop did not react to me pressing the standby/on switch on the right side for like 5 min. It just stayed off with a black screen. After a while it rebooted completely. Ever since then everything works fine except that the hotkey/f6 doesn't do anything now, not even disabling the touchpad. Can anyone help?

When googling, lots of pages say to use the BIOS Hotkey Mode setting, but on the Yoga 920 there is none.  Other pages say to use Lenovo Settings, but nowadays when starting that, it redirects to Lenova Vantage, which has no setting for this.  Hardware Settings | Input has Pen and More, but nothing at all for the keyboard. It's quite crippling not to have fn keys in easy reach without using a bucky key to access them.  Besides, the Fn and Ctrl keys have been reversed on recent models like this one, which makes it even worse, so I'd like to have a setting to swap those too (and apparently there used to be a setting for that too).  My old Thinkpad Helix has the good old keyboard layout, that's what I'm used to.

Does anyone know if either the Lenovo Pen Proor the Bamboo Ink Plus Pens a) work with the Thinkpad 370b) support the "tilt" functionality that the pens offer when used with the 370? Many thanks! Jaap

The USB-C port was malfunctioning on my Yoga 370. It's under warranty. Lenovo sent a guy out to replace the systemboard. The tech forgot to hook up the battery, so the system would only run on A/C power (hence I did not really use it until that was fixed). But I did run dmidecode on it after the service call and I noticed that it identifies as a T460 instead of a Yoga 370. A second tech came today and hooked up the battery to the systemboard. However, now that I'm using it, I notice that Thunderbolt 3 accessories are not recognized. Regular USB-C accessories are recognized, but Thunderbolt 3 functionality is missing completely. It still identifies as a Thinkpad T460. So I am wondering if the systemboard used actually was a T460, which doesn't have Thunderbolt 3. Initially I thought it was a mix up in identifiers rather than a mix up in systemboards, but maybe it's actually the wrong board. # dmidecode 3.1

Hi Guys, I bought the Yoga 13 with Windows 8 but the non pro version.  I wanted the pro version on so I can connect to a domain so I did a clean install - where I deleted the partition with the old OS. Everything went great and all drivers that were are on the other partition that I left alone installed fine. Here is the problem:  I noticed that the auto-rotate functionality no longer works.  After doing some research I found that the HID Sensor Collection is what controls this.  If I look at the device manager I can see that their is a exclamation point next to the HID Sensor Collection Driver along with the Light Sensor driver. They both give me the error:  This device cannot start (Code 10). The process hosting the driver for this device has terminated. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver - this didn't help.I've tried searching for this driver online - no luck.I tried using the "update driver software" and it says:  Windows has determined that your driver software for this device is up to date. Any ideas how I can get the HID Sensor Collection working? Thanks for your help!

Sorry, I don't have a solution. But I think I followed the same steps you did and my sensors do work - they are a little flaky (i.e. the compass sometimes tells me south is north) but that's not the same thing as your issue ;-)I deleted the original OS partition but left the LENOVO partition in place. I made 2 new partitions, installed Win8 on one, put my data on the other. Then I ran each one of the driver installers in the LENOVO partition. Device Manager does not show me any problems. The HID Sensor Collection driver says:Driver Provider: MicrosoftDriver Date: 4/21/2009Driver Version: 6.2.9200.16433Digital Signer: Microsoft WindowsThe two files listed are in System32/Drivers:UMDF/SensorsHIDClassDriver.dllWUDFRd.sys

I just got my brand new L13 Yoga, and so far I'm liking it.However, as someone who frequently uses the middle mouse button to open new tabs, I was quite disappointed to find, that this isn't supported here. I did reinstall Windows right when I got it, but I ran the Lenovo Bridge and Updater just after to get all the latest drivers. There is simply no way to enable middle mouse click in the software and I hate it. The button is currenly only used to scroll with the knob. I suppose this is more of a feature request, so I'm sorry if this is the wrong place. Any help is appreciated though. Kind regardsZitrooone
