Can’t connect securely to this page

Q: Can’t connect securely to this page

This might be because the site uses outdated or unsafe TLS security settings. If this keeps happening, try contacting the website?s owner.

Preferred Solution: Can’t connect securely to this page

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Can’t access the page where you enter a password

You might want to check your hard disk health. Or you may have some malware that is causing an issue.
I assume that this problem is only delaying logging into windows.
Try running CrystalDiskInfo to get a report on your disk health.
I always recommend scanning any system with ADWCleaner . I find that it finds stuff that most antivirus programs miss.
Another fun tool you can try is this:
It is essentially a menu allowing you to apply a bunch of standard windows fixes.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

I?ve been having a strange problem I cannot seem to solve.

My computer all of a sudden last week stopped displaying any webpages/connecting to the internet. It says it is connected (signal strenght/connection= excellent) but it won?t actually connect. Not to IE (7), but not to anything else either. The problem is both for the wireless as well as through the cabel connection.

I?m sure the problem must be the computer and not the internet though, because on my friend?s computer it works fine. I have tried to put all the settings the same as on his (gateway, dns, network mask).

I have already tried to reboot the computer.

I have tried to renew/reset the IP-address numerous times, but am not sure this is working right. I have manually tried to set it (same as the computer that does connect, except for the last two digits).
But when I do it through Run it will let me release the IP-address, however when i try to renew it tells me

?An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection: An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket.?

I have also tried to reset WinSock.

It will not ping either, I tried yahoo.com and - it tells me Destination host is unreachable.

The last windows diagnostics I have are as followed;

I just installed a D-Link wireless router (DI-524). The network shows up with a strong signal when I do a site survey from my laptop (Dell Latitude D400), but it wont connect to it. Ive tried connecting using both the PCs built-in wireless card and also the USB wireless adapter (DWL-G122) that came with the D-Link kit, with no luck. Other relevant facts:

--I have no trouble connecting to other networks with the built-in wireless card
--Tried changing my network's channel; didn't help
--Im sure I typed the WEP encryption key correctly
--Laptop is only 3 ft. from the router, no barriers or interfering devices present (2.4Mhz phone, monitor, etc.)
--Router has the latest firmware upgrade
--Tried several network mgt. utilities (Dells, D-Links AirPlus, Network Magic), including their repair network features

Im stumped. Can anyone suggest anything else I might try?

Judging from what you have wrote, you are not able to go to the internet on a laptop/notebook? These machines are usually wireless so to confirm:

You have a wireless network in your home/work?
If so are you able to see it in the wireless network list (typically on the bottom right, in the signal bar icon)
If you are able to see the network, what happens when you select it to connect?

Hi everyone, I have this weird problem, and it seems it happens a lot on vista users and I have seen it several times on forums and yet looks like nobody has a final solution. All started almost since I have my computer, also noted it was caused after I woke up the machine from sleep mode, the browser just kept saying "page not found" or "request timed", but I was able to temporally solve the problem by reseting the modem or disconnecting from internet in my laptop then waiting 3 minutes and connect again, however always after some time (15-5 minutes) I cant browse, ping, nothing! but somehow Im still connect to the internet, torrents and downloads usually dont get affected by this.

But one day after I installed a driver software for my Nvidia video card, and it fixed all! still dont know how. Then I made the mistake of sending the computer to sleep, so the curse returned. Eventually I found about "netsh winsock reset" command, worked like magic, until the day the electricity in my house went off for a second, when I restarted guess what? the freaking problem was back. Tried a bunch netshell commands, including resetting the TCP/IP settings, but got nothing, I gave up, and after a few days, I dont know how my internet issue was solved again. Little did I know the electricity was going to fail again, and so my internet.

So here I am, I already tried, "netsh" commands, reinstalling my wireless driver software, disabling antivi... Read more

I have a very ancient desktop PC which I need to get rid of. I thought I'd put it on Freecycle and give it away to a charity for preference but, if not, anyone who will take it away!

The problem is that it has 2 disk drives. I had thought of taking them out and uding as backup but I have a couple of NAS drives and online backup so would probably be overkill. I need to wipe them securely as they obviously currently have my data on them. I would need to give them away without an operating system as I only have my original Windows Me disk and can't currently find my XP upgrade disk and, even if I could, would probably want to hang on to them. So I guess I can format the 2 drives (in the right order!) but I'm not sure that this is secure enough for my purposes.

I've tried looking online but all instructions I can find assume that you are reformatting the hard drives with a view to reinstalling the operating system and keeping the computer which I am not doing. Could anyone suggest any program I could run which would reliably reformat both disks? Thanks.

A:securely erasing HDD's

How would one securely erase a SSD? Use the "clean all" command, use DBAN and do a quick erase or DOD wipe? Delete the partitions and do a regular format?
Do any of these methods hurt a SSD? I've read that too many read/writes can hurt a SSD after a while. Was that on older SSD's or do the newer ones suffer from that too?

A:securely erasing a SSD, thoughts?

Most SSDs (and HDDs) support a low-level 'secure erase' command. It's quite different to traditional 'zeroing' in that for SSDs it generally takes only seconds or minutes. In many cases it can be done through the manufacturer's utility. I generally use Linux command hdparm. The process is considered mildly risky, so be sure you fully understand what you're doing if you attempt it.

As for SSD lifespan, recent testing suggests that quality SSDs should outlive their usefulness.

Also, the myths of yore indicating that HDDs need to be overwritten multiple times with random or varying data to prevent data retrieval have largely been debunked. Unless your adversary has access to a clean room and a scanning electron microscope, a single zero pass is sufficient.
Edit: See here.

Can an SSD be securely deleted of data? I read somewhere that there is no way to be sure one has scrubbed it clean as it's digital unlike the old HDDs.

A:Can an SSD be securely deleted of data?

You can issue a Clean All command. That will write all zeros on the SSD. It is not really recommended because your future write commands will be slowed dowm, but it would make is difficult to recover the data - except with forensic tools.

I want to set up a computer to be able to receive connections using the remote desktop feature in windows XP. Both the host and the client use windows XP professional. My question is:

How secure is remote desktop? Is my data transmitted encrypted? Am I vulnerable to mitm attacks?

Is there a way to impose extreme security measures, so that nobody takes adcantage of the host running the remote desktop?

Also why would ANYBODY use VNC software since it's the same as the remote desktop? Besides the feature not being available in windows XP.

A:How to use Remote Desktop Securely

Your RDP traffic is encrypted depending on the level you set when you establish the connection on the client. Of course, you'll want to run RD on a different port than 3389 for a bit of extra security. The biggest vulnerability would be someone brute forcing a username/password combination that allows logins.

VNC is actually less efficient than remote desktop since it works at the framebuffer level. Remote Desktop works at the API level so it can provide significantly better rendering using far less bandwidth since API calls are pumped over the network, not screenshots.

I want to send some private files over the web. Can someone recommend me a service that encrypts and sends them, as I'm not really familiar with what's working?

Thank you in advance! I really appreciate it!

A:How can I send my files securely?

Two issues:

over the net encryption
user-to-user encryption
1) Using services like gmail & yahoo email (perhaps others too), the network connection from your PC to the correspondents inbox is encrypted. You can see this by looking at the port number being used in your email client software ( if you're using a web browser interface, you can't see it). Port 25 is normal clear text and port 995 is SSL encryption.

2) The problem with (1) is the message (and attachments) are stored in the inbox as clear text files. That allows them to be captured in every pop server backup and to a lack of privacy if the staff gets to poking about. You need something like a third-party PGP service - - see this article.

I've been wrestling with the problem of syncing files between my desktop and my laptop for a long time. I was happy to discover SyncToy, which I feel handles the issue quite well. However, I find a fundamental flaw in the program in that I must share the folders I wish to sync over a windows network.

My router is secure, running DD-WRT firmware and the network has a password and I'm really not concerned about outside intruders. However, I would like to sync some folders that I would prefer roommates and visitors not freely browse through. At the moment My Network Places gives everyone on the network free access to everything I want to sync.

Is there some way to password-protect the folders and still use SyncToy efficiently, an alternative to SyncToy that would solve this, or any other solution to where at the very least the folders being synced would not ever be viewable by just standard network browsing?

Thanks for your help.

A:10 ways to work more securely

Hi there

the problem with this is that IMO "Users" are a lot more Savvy than typical I.T support guys in most big organisations.

For example the I.T computer support guys might be earning around 10 - 15 EUR an hour and are often experienced in hardware etc but can't really compete with other types of professionals - often highly skilled graduates earning 60 - 200 EUR an hour.

So Option 4 is not really a good idea -- sharing data across a LAN is a HIGH risk of Data compromise. Secure data should be SECURE and NOT be available via a LAN.

Even in my own case - I needed to share a file with a colleague who was in another building - and we wanted to bypass the email system (not because of a virus - but because the email system had a 5 MB attachment limit) --I could have "rar'ed" the file and sent it in a few chunks but couldn't be bothered.

So all I had to do was to enable "Share " on my DVD device and allow my colleague to access it on his workstation --it's all possible on a local LAN.

The I.T support guys swore blue in the face that "This was not possible " -- but there's none so blind as those that don't want to see" as the expression goes.

Most I.T support guys do a decent job and work hard - but sometimes they aren't as experienced as the guys working on the gear they are supposed to maintain.

I have a 2TB(1863 GB) hard drive USB 2.0 that I am selling on Ebay, I just wanted to make sure that it's completely clear of data and it's going to be very difficult or impossible to retrieve data from it when I'm finished.
A google search told me about DBan, so I'm currently running that using DoD 5220.22-M because it was recommended time wise compared to 35 passes.

It's been on for 7 hours and it's only performed 0.60% of round 1 of 7. It was running at 30000 KB/s at the start but it fluctuates between 18k and 0.3k normally.

I was just wondering if there was a quicker way, or if I'm doing something wrong.

But it is saying 335798 hours now.
