SD Card corrupted, any good software out there to recover my files?

Q: SD Card corrupted, any good software out there to recover my files?

Hi all, I was using an SD card in the built-in SD card slot on my laptop to store data files. Something happened that corrupted the SD card. Windows 7 still recognizes the SD card and I can see the files on the card, but I can't even copy the files off of it to save them, so that I can reformat the SD card to use it again. What would be the best approach to take for recovering these files? Are there any good user friendly programs out there, preferably free or open source, that I could use to try to recover these files? They are not vital files but they are important to me and I would like to recover them. Didn't know what was the best forum to use to post this in, so I chose General Discussion. Thanks, Steve

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,
The folks that make CCleaner also have a recovery program called Recurva which I've had some success with in similar situations.
You might give it a look.

Hello,
I'm fighting against a Registry error at boot of Windows XP, on a notebook.
After Windows Logo loadbar, on Windows XP Home sp2, i get the error

STOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): \systemroot\system32\config\SOFTWAREClick to expand...

I tried everything:
- sobstitute the hive file SOFTWARE (and SYSTEM) with the original one (I loose everything)
- remove a wireless device that made crash the system even before this problem
- use CCleaner to execute an integrity check and repair the registry
- use a restore point (but I don't have none valid)
- manually copy the SOFTWARE hive from a non-visible restore point
- execute a checkdisk outside the notebook (on another PC)
- execute "sfc /scannow" command to restore the system files (and registry maybe?)

Nothing worked.

My only chance is to find the keys & values that are causing the problem in the registry hive.

Notice that I don't get any error if I reboot in Safe Mode with Network.

What else can I do?

Can I try something else before formatting?
I have to repair before tomorrow .....

Thanks for any help,
Pictor

You will need a Usb Dvd drive.

Formatting may be your only option.
Most Notebooks have a recovery partition - an F key at start up.
All data, files will be lost, as it returns the system back to factory settings.

While saving a microsort word document to memory stick using microsoft works the program started not responding and shutdown. The file i was trying to save it as was not created and the original file i was working on became corrupt and will not open. Would it be better to try and fix my corrupt file or would my I be able to recover the file I was saving too? What would be the best way of doing this?

To fix the corrupt file I have tried using Microsoft Text Recovery and that only returned 4000+ pages of code. The same thing happened while i previewed it in Docrepair. Are there any other ways of finding this file or is it completely lost.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

A:i need to recover files from a corrupted hd

Zero Assumption Recovery (ZAR) might do it. If Windows will recognize the disk, which yours is, ZAR claims it can recover files off the disk. This includes deleted files. You can download it for free and try it out. It has a limitation of four folders it will recover until you purchase a license but that will give you chance to find out if the drive is recoverable. I've used it twice. Once on a camera module and once on a crashed disk. It worked pretty darn good and I was able to recover hundreds of photos and files. I think it paid for itself. On files that have had the index deleted or corrupted, it will assign the file a number id but that's better than loosing the file. It works from the inside out and walks the disk as it analyzes the data. It's worth a try.

Download critical data recovery software - computer data recovery with ZAR.

I have a 4GB Verbatim SD card that I used in my digital camera. Today, I realized that all the pictures that were there in the SD card are gone! When I try to see the pics in the camera itself, The camera says " No data in Image File". I connected the SD Card to my Desktop using a card reader but still, The folder which includes the images does not open. The error message says " J:\DCIM\108NIKON is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."

I have some really important pictures and data on the SD Card so i can't format. Neither can I risk data loss. I want to recover all the data from the card. Is there a way to do it? Please Help...

A:Corrupted files Office - How to recover them

Well...files which are corrupted are damaged...there is no guarantee or expectation that can undo that.

Typically, if the files are program or system files...the user can uninstall/reinstall the application or run the Windows tools which attempt to deal with file corruption.

If the files are data files used by a given program...IME, the only tool available that may work would be the chkdsk /r command.

Data-recovery software is pretty much designed to copy files which are otherwise inaccessible...it cannot repair corrupt/damaged files.  At best, it will copy those files to a new location.

I'm curious as to how you know that the files are damaged...and what type of files are they?

Hi,

My Mom needs a paper of hers for another project. For whatever reason the file has become corrupt and no longer displays correctly. I downloaded a recovery program trial from officerecovery.org, but since it is a trial it deletes some of the text in the document and replaces the words with "demo". If anyone knows of a free program that can save this file, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks.

On my family's oldest computer (a Dell Dimension 8200, running Windows XP), we have recently gotten an error message that reads as follows.

"WARNING: Dell?s Disk Monitoring System has detected that drive 0 on the primary EIDE controller is operating outside of normal specifications. It is advisable to immediately back up your data and replace your hard-disk drive by calling your support desk or Dell Computer Corporation.

Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility."

Now, it says to back up the files immediately, but when I try and start up the computer, it takes forever but can get to the User Accounts screen (where you choose as whom you want to log in). When you select someone, it crashes and reboots. In my opinion, this computer is so out of date that we should just get rid of it, but my dad still thinks there are documents that he wants to save. I'm trying to just get the files off this machine and stored somewhere (on a different network computer or external hard drive on the network), but I can't access the files from anywhere.

I have the recovery console option or safe mode, but I have never used either of these, so I don't want to mess things up further. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

(PS - If it really is a dud, just let me know?)

Hi,

I have encountered this problem which is bugging me for days now.
I was just creating back ups of my files to a different location of my PC (diff. partition, to be exact), the usual copy and paste. After a few minutes, I got this error that says 123.xlsx cannot be copied because the file is missing. I decided to skip it and continue backing up other files. After copying, I tried to locate and open the 123.xlsx file. The file was there but upon opening and after entering the password, it says "The file is corrupt and cannot be opened." I have 3 files like this, all of which are password protected. So I'm assuming that the password protection of excel has something to do with it.

I have tried multiple excel recovery tools from google. Even the steps for recovering corrupted files from Microsoft website, none of them worked.

I'm using MS Excel 2013, windows 8.1 64 bit; if it helps.

Please, I'm desperate. The files are equal to months of work. ( I know, I know, i should back up my files more often.)

Best regards,

Still having issues with a Backup file that was created on XP-PRO. Icreated the backup to my D:\ as I was going to Re-format my C:\ in order to re-install my O/S. Once I was ready to recover that backup i got an error message that read"This file contains Unrecognized data and cannot be used". The only suitable way that I have found to recover these files is by paying upwards of $600.00 to a professional data recovery co. That is not at all a feasible option, so I have given up on recovering the entire backup file and am now simply focused on recovering specific files. Is there a program which allows me to "pick & choose" which files I want to recover from a corrupted backup file? I know it's a shot in the dark, but I am at my wit's end. Thanks for taking the time to read about my problem.

A:Recover SPECIFIC files only from a corrupted Backup file?

If that was possible, your problems would be over.

The backup will likely be a single file, with complex compression. Unlikely a file-by-file collation. Part of it will be a table of contents, which when uncompressed allows the file to be reconstructed to its many discrete files.

Unless you can actually open the file, I just cannot see how you could extract some discrete portions. The corruption is severe enough that the file structure is no longer recognised, so I simply can't envisage how you could take a section of the compressed code to extract anything, as its unlikely to be possible to determine what part of what file it is.

I wish you luck and hope someone has an answer, but doubt that it's going to be a runner.

I have recently suffered a crash of my external 1Tb Western Digital hard drive.

The local computer firm said it was not recoverable but as I had over 300Gb of mp3 and jpegs on it I thought I would plug it in and see.

After a short while looking my computer found the drive again and I transfered about 200Gb to mine and my wife's internal hard drives.

Now it has stopped working again and shows up in my computer as Local disk - Unlabeled volume 2.

Can you recommend any software that might give me a chance of recovering the other 100Gb - it doesn't have to be free software as I am happy to pay for it if it is gauranteed to work.

I am in need of a software that can recover corrupted files. I'm not entirely sure whether using the word 'corrupted' is correct, so let me explain my problem.

I had two 250GB hard drives connected on a RAID setup. My motherboard malfunctioned (manufaturers flaw which I got fixed for free) and to make a long story short, one of my hard drives failed. Failed = it makes a sudden "click" or... "tick" noise when accessing a certain section, and gives me access errors.

My question is - is there a specific program that will allow me to recover as much data as possible from this failed drive?

Thanks in advanced

Hi

I am trying to recover my files-all.

Recently all the folders and files disappeared, normally when this happened i would view all the hidden files in the folder options and also unchecked the hide protected operating....

and i would see the hidden files.. now only thing i see is a folder marked playlist (guessing since it was in ma phone that's apart of the reason),

however if i delete it it comes back my guess is its a virus, i know my folders are still on it cause the space is allocated in the properties box so its there... i also tried the command line (attrib -s -.......and so on) but nothing worked, i only see the same playlist folder..

i don't want to buy one of those recovery software cause its costy and i might not use it frequently..

Title pretty much sums it up. Recently built myself a new PC, did the usual XP installation, anti-virus, etc. Was performing routine updates when I started to try to install the update for the video card. Basically, it wigged out, changed the resolution of my screen and froze up during the setup. When I ended the task, I had a few warnings telling me system files got corrupted, such as the chkdsk.exe file.

I'm pretty pissed, needless to say, after spending much time building the PC and setting it up only to be undone by a routine video card update. Anyone else experience this problem? I tried rebooting, and now my monitor won't recognize the hook-up. Thinking about putting in the XP disk and running repair on it. That should do the trick, right? Either that or reinstalling XP for the THIRD time.

I tried to backtrack and install the drivers that came on the CD, but couldn't uninstall the old drivers first since half the stuff in my Control Panels was missing! (Including Add & Remove Software). So that's when I rebooted and it went to hell.

Maybe install BIOS update and mobo drivers first, if any? Does the sequence matter?

Specs:
Motherboard: eVGA nForce 680i SLi
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT (2)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHZ - 1067 FSB
RAM: 2 Gb DDR2-800 PC6400

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

A:Vid Card Update Corrupted System Files!

Okay, I ran the repair on XP and it seemed to work, now that I'm back on and posting on this forum using the computer. I took a look at my video card drivers on the device manager and found that my 2 video cards have different drivers (looks like one's older than the other).

Is there a driver installation issue with SLi? Looks like I wasn't able to install the most recent video drivers for BOTH video card, only one. I'm guessing this is what messed my computer up in the first place. I'm thinking of removing the drivers completely and starting fresh with the drivers on the CD that came with the card.

Any suggestions?

Hey Guys!

TL : DR: All files accessable but contain binary-gibberish

So I was at a friends place yesterday and he told me that his phone (sony xperia z5) crashed and woudn't restart until he removed the SDXC card (exFAT formated, 64GB). He tried to access his data from his PC (Windows 10) and wasn't able to do so.

So when I inserted his sd card in his PC It got recognized as an exFAT volume of correct size and showed all (as far as I can tell) data in a resonable size (nothing like, all mp3's are 4kb or so), but as soon as I opend a file (like photos or music) it said that it isn't a supported format. even file that should contain plaintext had not a single word in it and looked more like a binary opend in notepad. I opened one in mp3Diags and couldn't find a proper header or any mpeg stream. The filesystem seemed fine and I checked it with chkdsk. Even writing a new file to it works and is perfectly readable.

Does anyone knows what causes this and/or how to get on the data?

A:SDXC exFAT card files readable but corrupted

Sounds like the data was corrupted in some way, possibly malware or virus. But could just be a hardware glitch with the phone. Is a different card working in the phone?

But when trying to open it, it says please insert a disk into removable disk, thus making the memory card un-readable and not accesible.

Pc Inspector Smart Recovery program doesnt recognize this drive, as if theres a drive but its empty.

Is there a way to fix it? Any sugestions and help would be greatly appriciated.

thanks

I'd like to create virtual drive to open .iso image file on Windows 7. Previously I had used Daemon Tools for the job, but now I read it bundles spyware and has been responsible for blue screen errors for some machines. What's the best program to use?

A:What's a good virtual drive software for opening .iso files?

I use Daemon Tools. I don't know if there's spyware in the latest version. Maybe you can do the job with extractor? Such as 7-zip.

I was just thinking doing downloading AVG free, Adaware SE, Spybot, and Spyblaster for protection for my clients. Why don't I store these install files this time? Then I thought why not just get WMI files of them if possible. Then I realized I'm a total noob to pushing out things and should probably ask how is the preferred method before doing it. Now I know that MS Server 2003 can push out things but I am unclear about 2 things.

1. Where should you store those WMI files you want to push out to select later?

2. If I can't get a WMI file is there a converter or should I get a third party product that can push out?

Anyone that can help would be great, right now I'm just storing the .exe files in a folder on the server. I know in theory you can do it, I just haven't done it yet with anything.

A:Good place to get WMI Files or autodeploy software for Server 2003?

Nevermind got it but it gives an option in the form of a box instead of just installing is there a switch to auto run?

Unwanted encoding messages on opening MSWord files. Inability to open MSExcel files and picture files. Apparently corrupted files?I am having problems opening .doc and .xls and .jpg files in some (but not all) folders in my folder tree, e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\My Documents\Folder X. However, Folders Y and Z are apparently unaffected. This has arisen only recently. My system is Windows XP (Home), and SP2 upgraded to SP3.MSWORD EXAMPLE:- On opening a Word file (whether from Word or from Windows Explorer) I receive this dialog box;"File Conversion - (filename).doc""Select the encoding that makes your document readable." The already selected button is "Other encoding" and the suggested code is "Japanese". The preview pane shows only an array of characters, all the same.On trying to select the button "Windows (Default)", the preview changes to a continuous array of lower-case xxxxxxx. On returning to the "Other encoding" option and trying "Auto-Select", the selected code returns itself to "Japanese" with the display as already noted above. On returning to the "Other encoding" option and trying "Western European (Windows)", the display reverts to the Windows Default style as already noted above, lines of xxxxxxx. I am unable to open the file.MSEXCEL EXAMPLE:- On opening an Excel file, all I get is an immensely long string of a character in ... Read more

This sounds like it might be a malware infection.

Have you run any scans lately?

Did you download BackUp4All from a reputable source?

Hi all, a while ago I had the idea to start from scratch to clean up the system and gain more performance. But I have not done yet because I have some doubts.

On the PC I have Acronis True Image Home 2011
--> In the part where it says My backups I see the image that I have saved.
--> When I click on "Explore and recover" :To the right I see 2 items to recover: "Reserved for System and Local Disk (C)"
Therefore, the partition (D)will remain intact. Right ? But if I want to restore everything, both partitions, i have to use the option "Files and folders" ?

Extra info : I did not create the image, other person is who created it :P

A:Difference between recover partitions or recover files and folders.

How long ago was that Acronis image made?

I guess I don't understand your intent. You talk about starting over to clean up and gain more performance, but then express interest in restoring "everything".

Was that image made at a time when your system was running perfectly? How has your system changed since that date? If you restore, you will have to reinstall any applications you've acquired since the image was made. And that image won't contain any personal data acquired since it was made. Maybe it contains no personal data at all?
If you are going to "start from scratch", I assume you mean you want to do a clean install of Windows.

If you were to do that, the only thing in that image file that might possibly be important to you would be personal files---pictures, videos, mp3s, Word documents, browser bookmarks, possibly email, etc. And that would be personal files as of the date of that image, not your current personal files. And not Windows itself.

If I wanted to "start over", I would:

1: back up all current personal files to some other drive, probably external. I would NOT use an image for this. I'd just copy them with the mouse.

2: reinstall Windows.

If I did those 2 things, the contents of the Acronis image would be irrelevant.

You should forget about Acronis if you don't understand it or know whats in any images you have. Particularly if you didn't make the image yourself. Images can fail you anyway. I'd never rely on them exclusi... Read more

I realized that there are a few BIOS updates, after my version (1.26) that seem to offer performance inmprovements. I probably need those, since my brother has a laptop with identical specs to mine, but his runs faster in games. I made sure I have proper drivers and all that stuff, but his is still faster. I also know that if a BIOS update fails, I'll have an expensive brick. I'd rather not have that, so before doing the update, I want to be sure I can recover my computer.

At a shoot, I was capturing straight from my camera into FCP. I was using the log and capture window. After closing the log and capture window, I began to break down my equipment and unplugged my hard drive instead of my camera. Now, I am not able to open the file I captured. I can see the file on my hard drive, but I can not access the file. Is there a way to recover a corrupted .mov file?
