Help adding WWAN module and antenna to P52 (Not WWAN Ready)

Q: Help adding WWAN module and antenna to P52 (Not WWAN Ready)

Hi all, I need some assistance in adding LTE/WWAN options to a P52 laptop that wasn't ordered as 'WWAN Ready' The laptop has a SIM Card slot but no M.2 WWAN Module or WWAN Antennas connected to it. I have been back and forth with Lenovo many times and they say it's not possible to upgrade this unit as it wasn't purchased originally as WWAN Ready.. which I think means the laptop would be installed with an M.2 WWAN Module and the WWAN antenna I am able to find the M.2 WWAN Module which is compatible however not finding any WWAN antenna. Lenovo said they don't stock them for this Laptop. Lenovo ThinkPad Fibocom L850-GL CAT9 WWAN - wireless cellular modem - 4G LT - PART # 4XC0R38452 Does anyone have any experience with these? Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone, I'm a student and planning to buy the Campus version of the Thinkpad T480s with the Nvidia chip. It doesn't come with a WWAN module, but I'd like to add one. Information on that topic seems sparse and I tried to look for M.2 slot WWAN modules at different online stores. I found a few ones, namely- Huawei ME906S, listed to be compatible with 2016 Thinkpads- Sierra EM7455, listed to be compatible with the *70 series Thinkpads- Fibocom L831-EA (Intel XMM 7160), listed to be compatible with *70 series Thinkpads According to this reddit, at least the Huawei and Sierra ones are incompatible unauthorized for a T480s which, if true, is simply inconvenient, annoying and disappointing. As I mentioned above, buying a Thinkpad with a pre-installed LTE module is not an option because I'd like to have the Nvidia chip and am buying a Lenovo Campus Thinkpad which comes at a reduced price (and in Germany, it's the only way to get one with an Nvidia chip). As the Lenovo configurator and the T480s platform specifications indicate, the Fibocom L830-EB (Intel XMM 7262) and Fibocom L850-GL (Intel XMM 7360) are officially used and should definitely be compatible. However, I can't find them anywhere except pre-configured with a Thinkpad, which is not an option for me. Can anyone please help me with either of the following:- Is the Fibocom L831-EA (Intel XMM 7160) authorized for and compatible with the T480s?- Is there any place where I can get a Fibocom L83... Hey guys, I've recently purchased a 6th generation Thinkpad X1 Carbon. At the time of my purchase it was only avaliable without WWAN.However I can now see that Lenovo il selling them with built-in WWAN too. I've opened up my laptop and I can see there is a sim-card reader installed, as well as the sim slot on the back. Also there is a free slot where the WWAN card can go. I can see there are no LTE antennas installed however.See picture: https://imgur.com/o5RU96U I have tried getting in touch with the local Lenovo sales phone number but I am always put on hold and the call gets dropped after 15 minutes of waiting each time.I have also tried opening a support ticket regarding this, asking for the part number on the modem and the antenna. However, I was only provided with the part number for the antenna. Do you guys know of any documentation on how I should go ahead for installing the antenna? As far as I understand the antenna is PN 01YR426 . What LTE modems are supported on this machine? From the specs sheet  I can see that only the Intel XMM 7360 (Fibocom L850-GL), M.2 card is listed as OEM. Where can I purchase this L850-GL module? I have tried looking various places but it doesen't seem to be avaliable for sale anywhere?! Could I maybe use a  Sierra wireless AirPrime EM7455, or something else, instead? My experience with the upgrade. First I tried to get smart and get a generic EM7455, error 1802 and shutdown occured, Lenovo whitelists hardware and illegal BIOS mods are not my cuppa Joe. Then I tried to get the EM7455 from IBM Lenovo parts, delays until June, canceled. Ordered from HPP on Amazon, Lenovo original. Main antenna pin on card broke off into the antenna connector, after the stress of two connects, no luck extracting, snapped it off and then soldered the cable into the EM7455 board. It was a dumb MISTAKE, because the cable is actually coaxial. Ordered Lenovo 1AW308 antenna (LAN and WWAN) and took the T460 apart. Carved up the micro-SIM tray (microsurgery with a blade) to accept the SIM card from AT&T. Make four cuts into the LCD bezel trim to access the screws because I was too ;lazy to pry it off, it all works now. Tips: To avoid pin amputation (which will get stuck in antenna connector) lift the WWAN card off the board avoiding contact with the connectors, wear a x10 bino magnifier preferable with a light, and bend the cables to lay flush with board before snappin in using nail, make sure you feel the slight pop when the connectors align before applying pressure. Oh and make sure you are well rested with the kids and wife out of the house Half an hour of work initially, then a five hour session to fix the booboo. Parts for the unfortunate antenna amputees, order here:IBM Lenovo Parts01AW308 Antenna (has both WiFi and WWAN, ... Hello, I have the Thinkpad X250 and would like to install the WWAN module. Can you please advise the exact model?I have tried the EM7455 but got the following error after power on: 1802 unauthorized network card is plugged in Thank you in advance,Noam

A:X250 - WWAN module

EM7455 isn't a whitelisted WWAN module for your X250 - it was whitelisted for Skylake's ThinkPad generation devices. There are two dedicated WWAN modules for your device:- FRU: 04W3842, Ericsson N5321 HSPA+ 21Mbps M.2 WWAN.- FRU: 04X6014, Sierra EM7345 LTE/HSPA+ 42Mbps M.2 Card. You must buy a module with correct FRU on label. There are generic modules available on the market, but they won't work with your X250, as BIOS will detect them as unauthorized devices.

I have a 6th gen X1 carbon with the WWAN LTE module installed (purchased 2019) and has worked great until about a week ago I started hearing the sound Windows makes when a device is unplugged then plugged back into the system. I realized it was the Fibrocom WWAN device. It disconnects and disappears from device manager then reenables and comes back about every 10 seconds unless I turn it off. It doesn't seem to exhibit this behavior as often when the device is being used for the network connection, but if I am on ethernet or WIFI, it disables/enables about every 10-30 seconds. I am running the latest version of Windows 10 1903 with all updates and have tried updating the driver for the device, uninstalling/reinstalling device. I recently disabled the power management and selective suspend for the device and it seems to have helped a lot, but it still does it about every 30 min or so. Any other suggestions? Could the device be bad?

Hello,

I have bought an M700 which came back from a company leasing.
It has neither a webcam nor the WWAN module installed.
I am not missing the webcam but trying to upgrade the WAAN card.

Model No. PPM70E-0QH02DEN

I have got a sim-card holder in the battery bay, so only the mini-pci card should be missing.

Is it possible to upgrade?
How do I access the mini-pci slot?
Which parts do I need? (F3507g card, antenna, wires, screws)

Thanks for help.

pete

A:Installation of F3507g WWAN module to Portege M700 PPM70E

Hi

You mean 3G module?

From my knowledge the 3G module was not installed in all Portege M700
This means that there are different motherboards which provide different hardware specification.

In your case I recommend getting in contact with an local ASP.
The guys would be able to help you and would provide the right parts for an upgrade (if possible)

As far as I know some of M700 have been equipped with an 3g+/HSDPA Broadband with a data transfer rates of up to 3.6 Mbit/s (Module can be upgradeable to 7.2Mbps by firmware)

I bought a T470 with an onboard 256gb PCIe SSD. Instead of swapping it out with a 1TB SSD, I thought I might simply use it as the boot drive and add a 1TB 2242 SSD to the WWAN slot. I have seen posts about swapping SSD and some mentioning the WWAN (but mostly regarding the BIOS driver and machine not recognizing 2nd drive), but I am unclear if I can use the onboard 256gb PCIe SSD as my boot drive and to store my programs, and can also simply add another SSD (2242 size or otherwise) in the WWAN slot as my "data" drive. If the answer is yes, and I believe it very well may be based on my reading of other posts, do I need the additional cable (Part FRU 00UR495)? Finally, how would I actually hook up the 2nd SSD (assuming it is the 2242 size)? Thank you in advance. -josh

Hello, I've owned a T480 for a while now, and would like to add a WWAN card to it. I've considered USB modules but can't find any that will accomodate my providor so I am investigating the possibility of adding an internal one. I see that the T480 has the slot for one inside, and a place for the sim card behind the battery, but I don't see any antenna wires, and so I'm wondering if this is actually possible and if anyone knows how to do it, or has done it. There seems to be very little information online about adding mobile broadband cards in general. I had quite a time tracking down the Sierra Wireless AirPrime module that is supposed to fit my thinkpad module. Any information on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

but i am new to this...
a friend has a Elitebook 8460p, he discovered that behind his battery , it has a SIM card slot... and he wants to use it, he, and i, suspect that this is how it works.... you go to the telephone company buy a data plan with sim card, instal the WWAN module, conect the anthenna wires, install drivers, software, insert the SIM card... and now the laptop has internet all the time eny place that has gsm coverage....

this is how we think it works, or at leas what we can get from that /SIM slot...

are we right?

if so.. we only have to see the hp part number for the wann card, purchase it and thats it?
