I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi,

I'm new here and not able to pm yet. I saw a closed thread about this same issue. I have software that only runs on Windows XP. My Dell Inspiron N5050 has Windows 7 on it. I need the drivers for Window XP and any other information you think would be helpful I'd appreciate. I've never changed platforms on a computer before. Thanks in advance!

Im assuming you went to support.dell.com and checked. You can use their vista drivers for 32 bit by installing them in compatibiliy mode.

Let us know if that doesn't work

Okay, so my aunt had given my younger sister her used Dell XP M140 laptop like a year ago. When we first got it, I had to delete a whole bunch of documents and programs that I thought my sister wouldn't need. At first, the computer was fine. It was working normally and we didnt have much problems. Eventually, the laptop wouldn't work unless it was connected to the AC adaptor and "charging". The ac adaptor plug was pretty old and getting worn out so I bought a new one. I still had to keep the ac adaptor plugged in to use the computer.. It started getting annoying whenever the plug was accidently pulled so I ordered a new battery to see if maybe that would help. The battery came in yesterday and I tried it out. The computer was able to turn on WITHOUT the use of the ac adaptor and once I got to the desktop I figured it was all set so I turned it back off. I was so relieved but then...my father used the computer for a while but he had to plug in the ac adaptor because it HAD to charge. He used it for I think less than an hour. My sister then went online using the laptop without the ac adaptor plugged in and it turned off by itself. She had been on the computer for more than an hour. Now, we can't even get the computer to turn on with or without the ac adaptor.
This is really stressing me out.. and I don't want to spend money on this computer anymore. Any ideas what might be going on? How can I fix this?

A:Dell xp m140 frustration!

Remove the battery, connect the charger and power up. If it boots OK, shut down, re-insert the battery and power up again. If it does not work this time, remove battery, power up and insert battery while powered.

With a nvidia 512 graphics card you should run over 3. I have an old dell as well with a built in intel 945 and my graphics wei is 3.2

Im pretty sure that your driver is not correct. could you go into device manager (type device in search) and find the video device. Is it listed as video and working correctly? do you have any devices that are "unknown"?

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 531 at a garage sale. It came with a version of Vista that was cluttered up, full of viruses and in general full of problems. I don't like Vista anyway (I generally run Kubuntu or Mint for most of my computing), and I have a generic MS Windows XP sp2 install pack laying around. After installing XP, I loaded my linux OS's as usual, with no problems. The problem is with the XP install. It appears that Dell, in it's wisdom, made the Inspiron 531 specifically for Vista and the standard drivers available on Dell's site don't function well with XP (can't connect with the Web, graphics "roll-over" with the bottom showing at the top of the screen, and generally don't work well with the onboard graphics card 'Nvidia GeForce 6150'). Does anyone know a scource for drivers that will 'work-around' this issue? I know that the order the drivers are installed is important, so I wiped the drive and made a fresh install of Windows with no changes. The system setup is: Dell Inspiron 531 with AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ running at 2.0 Ghz with 4Gbs memory. I am set up for triple boot on two HDDs running Kubuntu 12.10 and Linux Mint Maya on one 260gb Hd and Windows XP Home edition Sp2 on a 40Gb Hd. I've searched this site and seen mention of a couple of users with XP running on this model, but no mention of the preferred drivers. Dell has been no help, as this is a discontinued model. I'm working on a friends M140. McAfee expired 8 mos ago. Windows updates not current.
I've uninstalled Limewire. New version of McAfee installed but would not register or update (although MySpace update will try to install.)
Ran system restore. Internet connection continued to fail. Uninstalled and reinstalled both NIC and WiFi. Now internet connection works to most sites.
Ran Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware (197+ entries).
Corrected some problems but system restore wiped out Add/Remove program entries for Spybot, Ad-Aware and McAfee. Located MCPR2.exe to manually uninstall McAfee (using my PC to research, download to USB key to transfer to M140). Trying to reinstall McAfee from CD but install window is blank. Can connect to various free antivirus scan sites but scans will not start.
Windows update will not start - again blank window.
I am including the HijackThis log file.

Im having a problem with my Dell Laptop and its graphic drivers. Yesterday, I started my laptop and it gave me an error message saying Windows has recovered from a serious error.

My screen resolution is now 1024*768 instead of 1280*720(I think that's the one) and i cant increase it. In the device manager my laptop's Mobile Intel(R) 910GML Express Chipset family Chipset Components has a yellow symbol beside it and when i right click on it and go to properties i get "Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware". (Code 37)

I've tried to reinstall the drivers by downloading them from intel.com many times but nothing seems to be helping. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

After trying to install the correct drivers, I seem to have triggered an infinite loop of Startup Repair, and Windows won't even start up. **[Base System Device]** x2 Not located found for Win7 fresh install under Device Manager.

Struggling with my ONLY Win7 upgrade (fresh install on a previous Dell Vista OS) to date. Being this Dell Studo 1537 laptop is my 'newest' computer, Win7 32/64bit doesn't seem to like this one. Win7 64 bit didn't stay stable after only one day with a fresh install from a cleaned/wiped drive.

Had to reinstall to Win7; this time the 32 bit, but still have 2 devices not loading properly under 'Other devices'. States, 'Base System Device' with an exclamation mark.

I have read other thread's on the possibility of audio drivers being doubled; and to disable one...but this isn't the issue. Win7 correctly loaded the appropriate driver and I have not loaded the bloated IDT driver that cuts the sound down.

Basically I have gone through the 'list' on Dell's website and can't seem to locate anything in particular that would satisfy these driver requirements. Any help would be 'greatly' appreciated.

Lastly, this system has been flawlessly stable under Vista; just slow as heck - under Vista's bloat-code. I finally started to procure memory leaks that would drain the battery in hibernate mode in as little as 4 hours; gotta love Vista... So, on to Win7. Unfortunately, Win7 64 bit would freeze/BSOD, you name it... Win7 upgrades on my other two machines have been met with less issue; and they were with older hardware!

Hey guys,

I've recently inherited a Dell Inspiron (N7110) laptop with Windows 7 Home installed (now Windows 10 after Microsoft decided to trick me into installing its OS) that I would like to revert back to Windows 7 Pro. To do this, I plan on doing a clean install with an OEM Windows 7 Pro disk that I purchased from Dell. I did find this one "Inspiron 15R SE 7520" If that is your model then the Dell website has Windows 7 64bit drivers and Windows 8 64 bit drivers available for download.

I would use the Windows 7 Drivers for windows 7, Just download them ahead of time and burn them to a CD or store on a flash drive so you will have them handy to use.

I would also have my Antivirus ready to install before I went on the Internet.

3rd point. Windows will prevent you from formatting the drive it is installed on. So you have to do it during the install process.

Hello to all,   I recently did a clean reinstall of Windows XP (Home) on my Dell Dimension 2350. All went fine. Now I need to install the correct drivers. I have the Dell Resource disc and this is where the problem starts.    As noted elsewhere, after the reinstall the screen display of the Resource disc is as it would be in "Safe Mode". I was aware of this. As such, the Resource disc Search Criteria screen was a bit larger than the monitor screen. I was able to size it to fit the screen but this is really not the problem it is the following: The Search Criteria options I have from the drop down menus (on screen) are as follows:System Model:   All, Dimension C521, DXC061, Dimension DXP0G1, Dimension E521, DM061, XPS710    (Which, if any, do I pick?)Operating System: (I think I got this one)   All, Windows XPTopic:   (Maybe this one too)   All, Applications, Dell Diagnostics, Diagnostics, Drivers, Utilities   For the life of me I cannot figure out the exact drivers I am to install*. Windows XP only appears in the Operating System menu. I pretty much know the install order but as I said, I'm a bit confused about selecting the correct drivers from the disc. This computer is not connected to the internet at the moment so I can't download and use any sort of driver detection program. A:Installing drivers after Windows XP reinstall on Dell Dimension 2350 using Dell Resource disc

You need, in installation order:

Chipset driver
Video driver (depends on which video card)
Audio driver
Network driver (depends on which you have)
Modem driver, if you use a dialup modem

Go to the Support page and put in your Service Tag. It should give you the drivers you need. You can download them on any PC and copy onto a USB stick for installation on the 2350.
You only need the applications, if you actually use them (eg, Roxio, Jasc Paintshop, etc).
Then install your antiviral software and get online to the Microsoft Update site for all the patches and updates.
Keep in mind that XP is no longer supported by Microsoft and they stopped releasing security fixes for XP and IE9, more than 1 year ago. So they're both full of security holes and put your personal data at risk.

Hello!  Your laptop wasn't developed with Windows 7 drivers it looks like so It may be hard to find them.  You could try installing Windows 8 drivers found here, or go to Intel's website and Realtek's website and see if they have anything.

I am constantly having this problem with my laptop. As I plug in and unplug my headphones throughout the day, I've noticed that after a couple times the bass gets really quiet and almost completely drops out. Since I have some pretty decent audiophile headphones with really great bass, it is super annoying and noticeable.
One workaround I have discovered is to go to the audio settings (either in Windows or the Dell Audio app), and switch the Default Format (the thing with 24-bit, 48000Hz in it)  to something else, play some audio, then switch it back.
A little word on my setup: I have the latest drivers from the Dell download page installed. I am running Windows 10 64-bit with all the updates. I have Waves Maxx audio "enhancements" disabled. My Default Format is usually set to 24-bit 48000Hz, but the problem eventually happens no matter what I set it to. The "headphone size" option is set to "Medium", but as far as I can tell this option does nothing if I do not have Waves Maxx enabled. Switching it also does not fix the problem.
If I play audio using WASAPI (this basically means that the music player takes over the sound card completely, and bypasses whatever audio processing Windows and the driver has) the problem does not happen.
How do I fix this problem? It's incredibly annoying, and most likely has something to do with the audio driver, since this does not happen in Linux, and it did not happen when I was runn... Read more

Hello all,

I have a Dell Inspiron 8600. It originally came with XP Pro...about 9 months ago I put Vista on it. Well today I had finally had enough of Vista, and I put XP Pro back on it. I did a clean install.

I am now trying to get online with the laptop, but I can't. When I go into the Device Manager, it shows 5 "other devices"
Ethernet Controller
Multimedia Audio Controller
Network Controller
PCI Modem
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

They all need drivers...the problem is I have no clue what drivers they are.

Please help !!!!!

Hi I have just replaced Windows Vista with Windows XP Pro on the following computer:-Acer Aspire M1100Now I am stuck at the 'drivers' stage, and would greatly appreciate some help. Note that I am fairly novice in the field of computer hardware, drivers, BIOS and the like. Here is where I am at: XP is now successfully installed on the computer. First thing I notice is the desktop screen is stretched even on what looks like the 'correct' resolution [1280 x 1024 on 19" wide monitor] - but of course no graphics drivers are yet installed on the new OS.The graphics hardware inside the computer is: ATI Radeon X1250 - I understand this is 'integrated graphics'?. After hours of searching [including ATI website drivers page], it seems there is no specific driver for this graphics card and Windows XP. However I did find this 'ATI Catalyst 8.2 Display Driver for Windows Vista (32 bit)' which mentions XP in its spec:-http://www.softwaredriverdownload.com/ati_...sta_driver.htmlAfter attempting to install however, there were installation failure messages [I forget exactly, something about 'install manager' failing I think]. After going past the few error messages and allowing 'installation' to continue, it seemed at the end that nothing had been installed at all.But before I deal with the graphics card/drivers, I learned from some Googling that the first drivers I should be concerned with is for Motherboard. I've had a look in Device M... Read more

OK, I've had to go ahead and try to get this computer working.

From the drivers mentioned above I obtained from the Acer website, I have done the following:-

- Attempted install of the Acer VGA driver. This is also described as a 'catalyst display driver'. Installation successful. However, on rebooting machine, nothing has changed graphically - looking in Device Manager, there is no entry for 'Display Adapters', and running DXDIAG says in Display/Device that there is none available. BUT... I don't quite understand if my ATI Radeon X1250 would register as an 'external device/graphics adapter', since I believe it is an 'integrated graphics card'?

- Attempted install of the Acer Realtek HD sound driver. Success - the computer now has sound, so that is at least one thing out of the way

What I am still in the dark about, is the state of the computer's graphics - I do not know if they are running 'correctly' or if another driver needs to be installed to unlock the X1250 [or is it now running, but it doesn't show up in Device Manager because of its 'integrated' status'?].

Tomorrow I will be able to hook it up to the web, providing there are no problems installing the modem driver! Once on the web I guess I can surf and see how the graphics fare compared with when it used to run on Vista.

Would still like some clarification on the motherboard and BIOS. Is it likely I need to install a driver for my motherbo... Read more

This laptop was designed for Win 10. It had 8.1 first, but they knew it was going to have 10. 8.1 and 10 are almost identical. It has devices connected in new ways.Acer and Microsoft are not going to make Windows 7 drivers for it so, you are going to have to Google windows 7 drivers and try them until you find ones that work, or not.I would put Windows 8.1 on it and install Start 8 and after a while I would forget I wasn't using Windows 7.

I have a ProBook 450 G2 which seems to have a hard drive that's going bad. I replaced the HD with an SSD and was going to upgrade the OS to Win 10. But near the beginning of the installation process I got a dialog box that said "A media driver your computer needs is missing. This could be a DVD, USB or Hard disk driver. If you have a CD, DVD, or USB flash drive with the driver on it, please insert it now." I downloaded the SATA driver, however, the install program didn't like it. I also tried the chipset driver and the USB driver, but it didn't want those drivers either. Does anyone know what drivers it's looking for? Thanks. David

I'm having some issue with my computer, and to solve that I'm trying to install Windows 7 again. I've yet NOT managed to do that ever on this computer, which is about 1 year old. There's no multiboot or whatever, BUT, there is a RAID controller active, and RAID is actually enabled. Actually, now that I threw away all content, I can easily switch RAID to non-RAID, but that doesn't seem to help THIS problem:

I have a LEGAL copy of Windows7, which SHOULD be the Windows I had running. I never installed Windows initially since the shop did that for me.

OK, when I try to install Windows, at some point it says the device drivers are not present, and thus Windows cannot install. It keeps looping into the same error, if I boot from DVD.

I DID use my DVD drive on Windows when I was able to use my computer, I never had any issue with that. I don't understand what driver I need, when I am installing from DVD.

Either he totally cannot read the DVD, but how do I end up in Windows screen then ? Obviously, Windows want to start installation, but then fails over something. Maybe the disk is not valid (it is new though).

Any advice here ?

I disabled RAID for the moment, but that does not help anything. Before the re-installation, this setup (BIOS Intel Raid storage) did report an issue with 1 of both disks, but that error is gone now.

It's not clear if Windows is an issue here, but a clean system reacting this way, obviously something is wrong.

A:Windows install : device drivers needed

SATA setting have been changed from RAID to ...?

Boot from win7 install DVD and do shift+f10 . See Command Prompt at Startup

In command prompt do:

Code:
diskpart
list disk
exit
Do you see both disks (that were RAID)? Look at the disk size , so you know what is what. Assume it's disk 7 and 8 (replace with actual disk numbers!)

Code:
diskpart
select disk 7
clean
select disk 8
clean
exit
What happens?

Hi,

Some important drivers like touchpad and storage management are not available in the product drivers list. Maybe they are universal but I don't know where to get them from.
I need touchpad, storage management, Ethernet, Controls and everything else which was available for XP, but can't be found for Win 7.
Where should I look for these drivers or could anyone send me links for all windows 7 drivers for this model, please.

Hi All,
I've run out of space on an old small SSD, and have decided a clean start is probably the best way to go in setting up Windows 7 64 bit on my shiny new bigger SSD.

I plugged in the new drive, successfully installed Windows 7, and can boot to it. Great start!

Thing is though, it's installed with a bunch of generic drivers for things like the display, (which came up in 800x600! No option for the HD I know it is capable of...), and in the case of the network card, nothing at all. Which is making it rather difficult to get the right drivers, as I can't get online from the new install!

I'm sure there are other drivers too, for things like the sound card for example.

Is there a relatively easy way to get drivers for all my hardware in? I can still get at the drives with the old install on, if that helps. And I must admit I'm a bit surprised the network connection is not working as there's nothing fancy about the network card I am aware of.

At the most basic, advice on the best way to get online fast would be a big help, but if there is a good way to get the other drivers fast, that would be seriously useful!

Thanks in advance,
Nick

Hello there, I recently did a clean install of Windows 8.1 on my Lenovo G50-45 and I'm wondering which drivers I need to install and how I can access them? When viewing my Device Manager, the 4 yellow exclamation errors I'm seeing are for the following:1. Network Controller2. PCI Encryption/Decryption Controller3. Unknown device4. USB2.0-CRW Since it was a clean install, I'm wondering if there are drivers I may need in addition to the ones shown in the Device Manager. For example, when I push the brightening/dimming function on the keyboard, nothing happens. The volume function works, but I have no tried playing music or listening to anything to test it.  I tried searching for the drivers on the Lenovo site, but may have the incorrect Serial number, as no results come up. I purchased the laptop from a previous user, so they may have attached the incorrect Serial number.  Any help would be appreciated so I can set up my laptop.  Thank you!Keith

Dear all, I am currently planning on purchasing the Tecra R840-A222 (PT42KV) here in Saudi Arabia and I need to know if this model has Windows XP drivers for it. On the driver downloads page, I can see two short-model numbers for this R840-A222. They are PT42KV and PT42KE.

The PT42KV has only about five XP drivers while the PT42KE has practically all the drivers for WinXP.
Can someone please tell me if the XP drivers for the PT42KE will also apply to the PT42KV?

I am mostly concerned about the basic drivers which consists of the graphics, chipset, audio, ethernet, and others for the hardware of this model. I will be using this unit mainly for engineering software (PLC programming, Vehicle diagnostics, and others that need the XP platform).

My Gateway m1634u purchased several years ago came with Windows XP. After installing Windows 7, everything works wonderful, except my monitor, which is now using a generic PnP monitor driver and is utterly stuck at 1280x800, and any program that doesn't match that resolution gets wrapped in a black frame, but not resized.

I searched everywhere I could think to look, and have the latest ATI drivers for the card... but it still isn't fixing the monitor. Plus, it won't let me switch to any other scale or resolution. Can anyone help me get the drivers I need for this laptop monitor? Thanks!

That machine is a Notebook and may not have an optional video card [most don't], uses what is built onto/into the motherboard. You should be able to get the necessary drivers from Gateway if they have them for Win7 but maybe Windows Update will have them. I changed my 4-year old M6888u from Vista to Win7 and had no problems. Mine has another number on the label on the bottom, W650I. Checking this Gateway page for mine finds "Service not available", doesn't show your model either.

Hello everyone,

I bought a new dell 15R SE 7520 laptop yesterday with the following configuration:

Processor : Intel Core? i7-3632QM Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.20 GHz)
Memory : 8192MB (2X4096) 1600MHZ DDR3
Hard Disk : 1TB SERIAL ATA (5400RPM) + 32GB MSATA3 SSD FOR MINICARD SLOTS - PM8
Graphics : 2GB AMD RADEON HD 7730M
Operating System : Windows 8 64bit Single Language

I have my 1TB Hard disk (DISK 0) partitioned as image below:

Also the 32GB SSD (DISK 1) is shown in the above picture as the 8GB disk assigned for the hibernation and the remaining assigned for the cache purpose.

I believe that the first partition called EFI system partition is the one which includes all the dell startup options and diagnostics (F2 button at the startup). The large one of 981 GB is my only accessible partition which contains the operating system and this is obvious for everyone here for sure. The last one of 11.96 is the recovery partition which I don't need it as DELL backup and recovery software is a crap and is not working which is a common issue and they haven't solved it yet so I decided to do all my backup and recovery manually as I used to.

I have a 9 year old Dell PC. The hard drive died.

I took another hard drive and I wiped it clean.

I purchased a "Windows XP reinstallation disk for Dell" CD off of ebay.

I installed that onto my blank hard drive. It did NOT ask me for a Windows license key.

After I connected to the internet, my computer connected to Microsoft to verify the version of Windows I installed is legitimate(aka, not pirated). My version did pass.

So what is the deal? Why do I not have to put a Windows license key in?

Can I use this exact same CD to reinstall Windows XP on my other Dell computers? I have a few Dell systems at home.

The Dell reinstallation disk that I bought looks like this.

A:Reinstalling Windows XP on a Dell system........... no license key needed??

Hi True,

The guy that made the System Restore disk probably put the key in the install. Does it match the sticker on the case of the comp? I just went through this and can you can find the key that loaded automatically in Winnt.sif on the install CD. An example is also in unattend.txt. That is just a sample key and not a legitimate one. There is lots of info on the net about this. Magic Jelly Bean's Keyfinder.exe will tell you what key is installed on your boot disk

Good Luck, Jim
