Sound issue -- noise coming from subwoofer

Q: Sound issue -- noise coming from subwoofer

I recently bought a creative 5.1 sound system for my pc, but every now and then (usually when a new screen opens) the sub woofer makes a noise.
Ive tried several things and I think ive narrowed it down to windows sound effect or sound card. The sound effect is when there is a screen change which is being detected and played by the bass woofer. I'm not sure where I would find this in the control panel I have looked and cant see where to disable.
Regarding the sound card, if your monitor has built in speakers and your sound card is getting confused between the different systems.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I think you can find all the Windows sounds under Control Panel->Sound->Sounds tab. You can select a system sound and then hit the Play button (it's the right arrow button) to play and hear it through your speakers. Don't know why you're having the problem but is one way to check system sound playback

Hi all this is my first post here..

First of all I have an Acer 5943G model laptop. I have a weird issue since yesterday when I upgraded from Windows 7 to 10. Everything is working fine except that all sound is coming from the subwoofer speaker beneath the laptop instead of the R L speakers above the keyboard.

I have downloaded and updated the latest Realtek HD Audio drivers etc and have gone through the sound settings time and time again to ensure that everything is right. Everything is indeed right in the settings so I really don't know what else I can do to be able to fix this problem. I know this is not a hardware issue because the speakers were working fine on Windows 7.

I have also plugged in my headphones to test the sound that way and it works as it should, I do get stereo sound on my headphones.

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated as I really don't know how to fix this after spending hours on it. Thanks in advance.

A:Laptop sound coming from subwoofer instead of RL speakers.

Check to see if the PC came with any Sound Enhancement, such as Dolby, SoundBlaster MB, etc. Could be one of those is not Windows 10 compatible and causing the problem, or may just a configuration.

One other thing you can try, even though you downloaded the Realtek. Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the Realtek sound entry to highlight it and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. This fixes a lot of problems and may take care of yours.

Hey Guys...

So my Packard Bell Easy Note MX37-S-200 has suddenly started making persistent " Crackling " and " Popping" noises from the moment I boot it. The noise is coming from the speakers and the sound is now distorted. I have very recently got it back from the repair shop after having my AC jack replaced... I would really like to rule everything out before I start pointing fingers at the repair guy

Things I have tried - Disabling sound driver - Noise was still there and laptop just installed it again.

Running avast scan through it - Scan picked up nothing.

Played with the sound setting - Nothing changed noise still there.

Plugged in PC speakers - Noise still coming from laptop but sound came out of the speakers fine.

I have noticed also that when the laptop first starts up the noise is louder and more spaced out. I'm wondering maybe whether it is the fan? But I don't no why the noise would be coming from the speakers.

Would really appreciate any help
Thank you

A:Crackling noise coming from laptop speakers + sound distorted

My guess is that based on the information provided that the wires for the speakers have either been damaged or crossed in some way where they are touching something they shouldn't causing distortion. My advice would be to take it back and tell them whats going on and make sure to have them fix it for free if they opened it and caused this problem.

I recently bought myself a new computer & ever since, have been having nothing but troubles. 1 in particular is no bass coming out of my subwoofer. I had a computer built in 2000 that ran XP Pro and my Altec Lansing speakers worked great. Now I have Windows 7 & Realtek HD On-board sound which gives absolutely no bass. Just curious if anyone has heard anything about a conflict between Realtek HD and Windows 7?

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:no bass coming out of my subwoofer

Of course you're not getting any bass out of your sub...Microsoft switched over to salmon for Win 7.

Welcome to Windows 7 Forum!

Seriously, though. I have Realtek HD on-board (ASUS mobo) and an old Altec Lansing 2.1 speaker system, and my sub works fine. The crossover in the speaker system should handle the job of sending LF signals to the sub, nothing in Windows or the Realtek hardware.

Maybe just make sure every cable is hooked up correctly and not damaged. My A-T sub has a special connector that has several small pins. If your is the same, make sure the pins are not bent. If everything looks fine, open the sub and check for a blown fuse. Worst-case, your sub may have bit the dust.

I recently bought an Acer Aspire 7738G laptop with Windows 7. After a day or two the speakers (in fact i think it was the internal subwoofer) started to make a loud grinding noise which was intermittant but which became increasingly prevalent. It seemed sometimes to be brought on by my going online or somethin like that whilst music was playing, but sometimes started on it's own. Thinking it was a hardware problem I changed my laptop for exactly the same model. Unfortunately however after a few days exactly the same thing has started to happen.

I don't think I am the only one to have had this problem (see link below) and I wonder if it's aproblem with Windows 7 and Acer internal subwoofers. I am not a techy and all I can think to do is to take this laptop back and get a non Acer one. I'd rather not go through all that again (transferring itunes alone is a pain let alone getting the computer to perform in the shop).

Please let me know therefore if there is a simple fix to save me the trouble.

Hi guys...
I just plugged my Onkyo 6.1 Channel (S-680) to my computer. I connected the receiver to the Digital Out port of my motherboard (Intel 915GV Chipset-Asus PTGD1 - LA). It uses the Realtek ALC880 drivers. Whenever I open Sound Effect Manager and do the Speaker Test, sound comes only from my front speakers. The rears/centre/sub all light up but no sound is played. However, while running games/music/films I get sound from all my speakers (though not very satisfactory and not real surround sound). Can anyone please help me with this?

Also, I can't open Realtek HD Audio Manager (RTHDCPL.exe). Only RTLCPL.exe (Sound Effect Manager) works. When I click on RTHDCPL.exe nothing happens. Please do help out.

Thanks.

A:No Sound From Surround/Centre/Subwoofer In Realtek Sound Effect Manager Test

try this:

1) try to go to the settings of your sound effect manager & there are selections there for 2.0,2.1.5.1 or what ever you may find that corresponds to your speaker channel.

2) if nothing corresponds to the given selections, try to download the latest audio driver from your motherboard's manufacturer website.

3) otherwise, you need to plug-in a sound card that has the feature to play with 6.1 channel audio.

goodluck

Hey,

So i have on-board realtek HD audio card (6 jack) with my 5.1 system connected via 3 jacks (front , surround & sub). The problem is that i've just run the auto calibration thing with the microphone and it worked fine and calibrated all of my speakers, but now my subwoofer doesnt work with ANY playback at all inc. movies and music etc.

My system automatically does its own "speaker fill" if just a stereo input is connected - which is what it was until i performed the calibration tool. And i know that all of the jacks are connected in the proper place because when i go into settings - (the screen where you can click on each individual speaker to test them), they all work fine.

I've noticed that if i use the EQ tool in WMP and turn it all to the max, i get some bass through - but only the real low-freq. stuff. It's not outputting the full range.

Like i said about my system working with just a stereo input - currently i can leave Front and Surround plugged in and unplug the Sub / Center cable - but then , obviously, i lose the speech as its coming from the center speaker.

Please help
Thanks

EDIT: Oh and also - everytime i download the realtek drivers for it - it says "This file cannot be unpacked.." so i googled that problem and tried installing windows installer 3.1 - which then told me i haven't got enough storage to perform the request. ??

Hello. Dell does not support Windows 8.1 or 10 on the XPS L502x model and cautions that you might lose some functionality if you do run Win10. There is no Dell-provided audio driver for your laptop with Windows 10.
However you should be able to install the Realtek audio driver for Windows 8 with no problem.
If there is a problem, try to install the driver with Compatibility mode:
1. Download and save the audio driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive.  2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write down the exact location that the wizard creates. 4. If the driver begins to install automatically, halt (cancel) the installation.5. Browse to the driver files on the hard drive (the location you wrote down).6. Find the "setup.exe" file.7. Right click on setup.exe to open the context menu.8. Select the Properties.9. Select the Compatibility tab.10. Check the box "run this program in compatibility mode for Win8.

HP Pavilion DV7 1183cl, Windows 7 x32, Sound only playing out of subwoofer:

Yesterday (5/13/2011), Windows told me I needed to install some critical updates. I installed them and restarted. When I restarted, I noticed that the mute button on my touchbar was red and wouldn't turn back to the on color.

I logged into Windows and tried playing some Youtube videos and stuff to see if the sound was working. It turns out it was, but the sound was only coming out of the subwoofer on the bottom of the laptop and sounded TERRIBLE. When I plug in my headphones it sounds fine except the volume doesn't go as loud as it did before. Pressing the mute button does mute the sound, but it still stays red no matter what.

So I tried resotring my system back to a point when the speakers were working to see if it was a hardware problem, and it turns out it's not. When I restore to an earlier point, the speakers work fine. The problem, however, is for some stupid reason I can't login at the restore point. I just know the speakers work because the error sound comes out of the Altec Lansings on the front, and the mute button actually changes colors.

You apparently are trying to circumvent the speaker setup with the separate bass speaker. Audio systems are set up to feed audio based on how you have your speakers set up (e.g. 2.1 stereo , 5.1, etc). As you apparently have a 2.1 (or 2.0) speakers connected to the green speaker jack, what do you have the speaker type set as?

In multiple speaker setups such as a 4.1, 5.1, 7.1, etc although there are separate connections to the speaker jacks, its really controlled internally in the speaker system, not separate like you want to do it. What you are doing may work with some functions but its not the correct/legitimate setup.

It’s really annoying me

A:xps L501X: Ticking sound from jbl subwoofer

I just received my new custom built L501X on Tuesday (30th Nov) and I have the exact same problem.  It is a minor clicking / popping noise that occurs seemingly at random whether I am on the desktop, running an application or even playing a game.  I noticed it first coming from the built in speakers but now have external speakers plugged in and can hear it coming though them as well.  Also when wearing headphones it is quite noticable so I have to assume it is something to do with the sound card.  It's not the worst thing in the world but as with any new expensive long term purchase like a laptop we want it to be as perfect as possible.
Same basic observations as the above post.  I have also tried disabling the built in mic as I figured this might be
causing some interference but popping noise still occurs.  One thing I have noticed is that the noise seems to occur much more frequently when I am navigating around "my computer" or when I am working in the control panel windows.  I also notice the popping noise just before the windows sound effect when I click to transition back or forth into folders and then it will always occur again 4 seconds after.
Aha....I think I might have actually just solved the problem while writing this!!  I have gone into control panel, sounds, and turned off the sound effect for "start navigation" and presto...I'm not hearing the click at all any more.  Will have to see if... Read more

Hi

I am having probles with this high , sort of vibration noise coming from the box.

Sometimes when I boot the pc it will start straight away (the hard disk light is not on then).

Other times I will leave the PC on at night after hitting the sleep button. It will later wake me up with the noise (again the hard disklight is not on).

I can usually get the noise to stop by (I know this is terrible) by slapping the box.

I have another problem which I don't know if it is related. Often lately the pc will just shut down as if I had turned it of by hitting the " turn of computer" button. Other times i will put a dvd or cd in it and it turns off.

About 2 months ago i had a new power box put in and more ram. This noise though has been a problem well before that though only now is it getting considerably worse.

Thanks for any help.

Hello All,

I purchased an Inspiron 15 7000 two months ago. I love the laptop for gaming but I noticed a vibration/crackling coming from the internal sub-woofer when listening to music. It is most noticeable when listening to bass heavy songs (obviously). I first noticed it while listening to "Misty Mountains" from the Hobbit Soundtrack.
I called Dell Tech support and worked with them, but the rep I spoke with was very confused about my issue. We went through all the trouble shooting step for audio problems and I ultimately returned the laptop to Dell for repairs. I received the laptop back stating that they replaced the "IO/Daughter Board" and "Replaced Cables" however I still notice the issue. I have checked to ensure the drivers are the latest version and even deleted the Dell Support Assist as mentioned in the FAQ post.
Since the laptop was shipped like this I am beginning to question if the sub-woofer is broken or if it is just a cheap speaker that can't handle playing music. All my other laptops have handled my music fine but none of them have had an internal sub-woofer either. The vibrations do not make the music un-listenable, in fact the majority of people probably wouldn't even hear it, but to me it is annoying, especially since the laptop is brand new.
Does anyone have experience with the internal sub-woofers? Are the cheap speakers that vibrate or should I be getting a nice clean sound comparable to a moderately pr... Read more

Hi,I'm new on this forum and that's my first post, I will make it quick and simple:I bought HP envy dv4 5200 laptop, and when I tried to listen some music on it, I discover that there is almost no sound like subwoofer from the place where that subwoofer should be, it plays more  like two other speakers, I tried some drivers for fixing it but nothing helps, I have windows 8.1 pro 32bit and maybe that every driver that I found was for 64 bit system can be a problem because It wasn't 100% compatible with my system,so please If someone can provide me a link for drivers for this laptop and system I will be very grateful. Thanks

You have no installation manual? What type of audio or sound card are you using to drive this new sound system?

New 17 R3 delivered today.  No subwoofer.  Really subpar sound from working front speakers.  However, headphones work well and eq works great with them.
Is there a chance that the subwoofer isn't connected?  No sound at all coming from it.
Checked device manager and everything is fine.  Tried installing driver from Dell found in my account.  Still no subwoofer sounds at all, not even a crackle.
Seems weird for a new AW build to be missing subwoofer functionality.

Hi. I recently ordered a Frisby FS-5020BT, along with an Optimal Shop 5.1 external sound card. For some reason, stereo audio doesn't redirect low frequency sounds to the subwoofer channel and instead only utilizes the front left and right speakers. When playing 5.1 content, such as a Blu-Ray movie, all 5 channels and the subwoofer are used, like they are supposed to. When I run the sound test in audio playback devices options, the subwoofer does vibrate. Is there some driver I need to install to get stereo audio to utilize the subwoofer, or will I just have to get used to no real bass when playing music from YouTube? Any help is appreciated.

Hi Guys!

I hope I'll get an useful answer here!

My problem is that i don't get any bass out of my subwoofer, my system (as i configurate) recognizes my subwoofer, but as soon as i listen to music there's no sound coming out of it!
My other speakers work, but only the bass is missing!

I wanted to install the console launcher from CD, but in Setup windows said "couldn't find any compatible hardware. Setup will be closed"

But i do not find any latest console launcher in Creative technical support, that's compatible with my Live 24 bit soundcard.

I started this thread, because i couldn't contact any other user who's problem was solved ^^

Hi there, So I recently had to get my Harddrive replaced, and OS (Windows 7 Home Premium) reinstalled through a company. However on return of the laptop, my sound and other things were messed up.  (Dell XPS L502X)- WavesMaxx Buttons not working/ no MaxxAudio- Sound appears to only come out of the central subwoofer, despite not failing any hardware tests. Its almost like the L n R treble speakers are being ignored. Something is majorly unbalanced. - Fn Keyboard Functions not working. -  e.g I cant turn the Wifi  on/off or lock my touchpad. Given the company (caused a huge faff with a ton of screw ups on their part to even get my laptop back I really don't want to take it back to them) I decided to try and fix some things myself. - Used the utilities disk to reinstall Quickset64 which now means that the Waves Button Now works to bring up MaxxAudio, but the speakers still aren't working and the EQ sliders don't change anything. - Tested using Dells 32 bit hardware diagnosis, and no errors, but the LnR still seems to be coming out of the Subwoofer located in the centre during the test play. - Deleted and reinstall all the realtek drivers from both the utilities disk, AND the Dell website. And basically I still haven't manage to fix the problem. - Headphones output  has always worked completely fine. These issues did not exist before the OS reinstall, so I thought it was drivers, but now I really have... A:Dell XPS L502X sound only playing through Subwoofer

Offshot1stnot that you'd even need to take the speakers out to change the harddrive...
True, but do have to remove the palm rest assembly. It could be that they didn't know how to get to the hard drive and took the whole thing apart.
Offshot1stI'm at a loss as to what to test next, without literally taking the whole laptop apart physically and checking the speakers haven't been plugged in wrong
That's what you would have to do if you want to fix it yourself and don't want to take it somewhere to be worked on. You can download the XPS L502x Service Manual which has clear instructions for disassembly.
Offshot1stTested using Dells 32 bit hardware diagnosis, and no errors, but the LnR still seems to be coming out of the Subwoofer located in the centre during the test play.
The audio part is interactive. If you don't hear the music coming through the speakers during the test, then that is the error. If it were a software problem that you could fix with drivers etc., you would hear audio as expected during the test.

Hi everybody.

Well i have a stereo 5.1 system by Creative, version SBS 580.
When i first got the computer everything was fine, then my brother bought those headphones, so we didnt use the speakers at all.
so after about 1-2 years without use i plugged them in and tried to use them.
The problem occured was that only the subwoofer worked, none of the speaked did,
and the subwoofer only worked at the "Realtek HD Audio Manager" program.
I tried reading forums of creative, tried to connect the system to the computer in many ways, all of the ways give me the same result, only the subwoofer produces sound.
the way creative's guide say to connect the speakers is like that :
ImageShack? - Online Photo and Video Hosting
The program that im using is "Realtek HD Audio Manager" :
ImageShack? - Online Photo and Video Hosting

so when i play this play button, only the subwoofer makes the sound, non of the speakers. All of them are connected to the subwoofer correctly, they are turned on.
no technical problems.

Is it a driver's problem?

Please help me, Im exhausted...

A:Surround 5.1 problem, Only subwoofer produces sound

As the subwoofer also contains the amplifier(s) and routing of sound, I would suspect that is where the problem is.

You can verify that you are getting audio output from each of the three PC sound connections by hooking a headset to each output and playing audio. If you hear audio (it will only be that channel) from each output then that isolates the problem to the speaker system. On the other hand, if you do not hear audio from all the jacks, make sure 5.1 is set in the Sound Panel, playback section. Click on the speakers icon to highlight it and then click on the Configure button and select 5.1. If that doesn't fix it, reinstall the PC Vendor or motherboard if its a home built system, RealTek audio drivers. They will work better than non-Vendor drivers.

I suffered from a BSOD 4 or so days ago and decided to clean out my computer. After turning it back on i haven't experienced a BSOD since but i noticed this annoying semi-loud sound coming from my computer, i can not tell exactly where it is coming from but it's sort of a high-ish pitch ringing that is 100% constant it never varies or skips or anything. It may be that i just never noticed it before until now but i'm starting to worry. I have watched multiple videos of "coil whine" and it just doesn't sound like that, coil whine seems to not be 100% constant and is MUCH, MUCH more high pitch than the sound i am hearing. I'd appreciate any help. If i had to guess i'd say it seems to be aimed more towards the CPU area.

I was using my PC and all of the sudden it started making a loud almost rattling sound. I shut it off, waited a little and restarted it. It went away for a few minutes and then came back. I opened up the case to see if I could find where the noise was coming from and it seemed to be coming from one of the fans. I unplugged the power to that fan and now it is quiet again.

Do fans go bad? Is there a fix for this or do I just need to get a new fan?

These days it's quite unusual for an AC adaptor to make noise. Or to cause interferrance in other devices. Sounds like a component is failing. If it's still in warranty, request a replacement adaptor.

My PC sits there with a clicking noise coming from a red L.E.D (motherboard power to board light) just continues to click.. (with light flashing on and off clicking away) The clicking will sometimes start while already in windows. Powering down then pushing in the keyboard connection and all ide ribbons fixes it for a while. Will almost alway boot normal after this. Problem has been going on for a few days now.

Once the PC is all booted up everything runs fine for a while. Not sure where to start troble shooting this. Did switch from Zone Alarm to Outpost firewall recently.

Title says it all. I am not very familiar with Computers, but I know my stuff.

I have an ASUS P5Q-E Motherboard, and an Intel Q9950 processor. I also have the Antec Twelve Hundred gaming case, with a Zalman cooler on top of all that.

I smack the side of the behind the cover, and sometimes it will go away, but that's horrible for the machine. It is not the cooler, because I have tried moving it while the PC was running, and no problem. I smack the top of the fan on the top, the muffles, and comes back. It is not the Hardrive, or any External fans, because the noise is coming from the top, back right corner of the PC. I turn the speed of the fan on the top down, there is no change of sound, and there are no wires interfering with the fans.

Any help would be appreciated.

I was just taking apart my desktop and cleaning it up/blowing off the dust using a pressurized air gun (not too pressurized), and now that I have the nuts and screws back on, I plugged it in and the loudest noise began to come from the cooling fan.

It sounds as if theres something hitting the fan as it turns, this only happens on start-up for about 5 seconds as the fan blows at full speed. I did a visual inspection and there was nothing close to the fan, all wires were tucked away. What should I do?

A:Loud noise coming from fan

It's possible that when you blew compressed air through the cooling fan, some grit/debris inadvertently got into the fan motor pinion. It should eventually work itself out, but if it's stubborn then try blowing more compressed air. You might also want to check if there's a lubrication port somewhere on it (some of these fans are completely maintenance free, but some can be lubricated).

Hi, This question is related to a HP ENVY Recline 23-k100xt TouchSmart All-in-One Desktop PC running Windows 8.1, 64 bit.  The PC has built in Beats speakers and an output jack for a sub woofer.  Without the subwoofer connected  all sounds produce including system sounds and sounds produced by software such as Quicken. When I connect the subwoofer certain sounds no longer produce, e.g., sounds produced by Quicken, and the Num Lock/Cap Lock system sounds.  Music and movies sound terrific with the subwoofer connected.  When I disconnect the subwoofer all sounds immediately return.  I am hoping there is a setting or some other simple solution to have all sounds produce with the subwoofer connected.  This issue has been occurring since day 1 with this PC and I am not receiving any error messages.  I am using an Energy ESW-M6 subwoofer connected with a 3.5mm stereo audio cable to the subwoofer output jack on the PC.  Thanks for your help!

Hello.

I just installed Win 7 and I have a 7.1 setup, but my subwoofer is not working. I'm pretty sure it's a driver/config issue, because all wiring is OK and it was working on XP some hours ago. I have an Audigy 2 ZS, but I also tried my onboard Realtek High Definition Audio, but the subwoofer does not work.

Anyone experiencing that / any tips for me ?

Thanks.

Edit:

So, anyone got the Audigy 2ZS to work yet? Please scroll down to see my message update below.

Hi there @redhottoddy, I hope you find your Support Forum experience a positive one!  I understand that you are having an issue with Beats Audio after a Windows 10 upgrade.  I am happy to give you a hand with this. If you haven't already, you could try installing the driver from Windows 8.1 instead of the one for Windows 10, and see if that helps. Please let me know whether that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

Hi everyone. I have my headphones plugged in and am getting poor sound quality out of them. My computer says that the sound is coming through my speakers, but its not (its just coming through the headphones.) I've attached a picture of what the comp's showing me for reference. I've tried going to the Sound menu and making the headphones the default device, with no luck. This issue seemed to happen after I was done using Google video chat with my headphones plugged in. I am trying to get the sound quality in my headphones back to normal. They work with every other device. Please help!
