T470 & Lenovo Thunderbolt Graphics compatibility

Q: T470 & Lenovo Thunderbolt Graphics compatibility

Dear Lenovo owners, I'm planning to buy a Thunderbolt graphics for my T470 notebook (6th gen Intel i5 CPU) and Lenovo Thunderbolt Graphics Dock (GTX1050), it looks ergonomic and portable. I wonder that is this dock compatible with T470 series? Did anyone tried and satisfied? Many thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I was wondering if anyone have any experience with the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Graphics Dock and if it works with the X1 Gen6 Carbon?  I did see it's been optimized for the IdeaPad 720S 13-inch 8th Gen Intel processor but would like to know if it works with other models too. It would be a weird limitation to lock it down to only one computer.. Thanks!

I own a Thinkpad T480 (20L5: Intel UHD graphics, Core i5 8th gen) and since it supports Thunderbolt 3, I want to attach an external GPU and display for light gaming. I see that Lenovo itself has a "Lenovo Thunderbolt Graphics Dock" but does not offer that as compatible with the Thinkpad series. Nevertheless, as Thunderbolt 3 is a standard, I am wondering if the Graphics Dock works with the T480. Did anybody already try that?

Hello just got both laptop and dock today. I tried to set the dock up but I have had no luck. I downloaded the driver and firmware for dock and attempted initially to install the firmware but the cmd window was closing without rebooting the pc as expected. I then tried to install the graphics dock driver and then connecting the dock. This did not work as well. Out of ideas does anybody know of a trick or sequence of steps to get instalation completed ? Let me mention that the laptop is pretty current in drivers. Lenovo drivers has been updated using the Lenovo Vantage app and also windows 10 is current with latest and greatest. Your help and support is appreciated

I have a Lenovo Yoga 730 (15"), and I am an engineering student. I want to use Inventor and CAD on my laptop, but I often feel like the integrated graphics can't keep up, so I want to buy an external graphics dock and use it with my laptop. In the description of the laptop specs, it says that it has a USB-C port with thunderbolt capabilities, but I don't think it is a thunderbolt itself. Can I use external graphics with this laptop through thunderbolt?

My encrypted Thinkpad T470 (2yrs old) has suddenly begun "crashing" during use. This doesn't seem to be triggered by any particular programs or user behaviour that I can identify, and once it happens it will occur again relatively soon if I restart it without a long rest. What happens is that the screen goes black, and white boxes flicker in and out. Sometimes I see white lines near the top, which I associate with graphics card issues, but I've never seen this white boxes pattern before. The laptp will not project on an external monitor, so it's not just a display issue. It does not fully shut down when this happens, but rather requires a force quit in order to restart. It restarts normally until it crashes again. Any ideas on what is happening here? Am I on the right track to suspect graphics card issues? Thanks.

I tried to ask on Reddit but it looks like nobody knows the answer. trying it here  where could I find a confirmation that the T470 with onboard HD 620 graphics can drive two 4K Dell P2415Q at 60Hz monitors when connected via Thunderbolt? PSREFs just say it can support up to 3 displays (which is cool, but at what resolution and what will be the refresh rate) and max resolution supported is 4K at 60Hz (again, great, but how many of them?)I was planning to use either the Startech's Thunderbolt 3 to Dual DisplayPort Adapter or Dell TB16 dock to connect the monitors, as Lenovo is not providing ways to connect two 4K monitors over the DisplayPortIdeally, I'd love to have a dock which can connect both monitors but as I understand current generation of mechanical docks does not allow to use two 4k monitors, I guess it has something to do with bandwidth of chips used for DP ports in the docks.

I have a T470 20HD running Windows 10 Pro. Both the operating system and all Lenovo updates have been applied. Attached to thos is a Plugable-brand USB3 dual HDMI docking station that's been driving a pair of Dell SE2417HG(HDMI2) screens. Or did, until I did the Integrated Firmware of Thunderbolt Function 1.0.12.0-N1QTF16W update, at which point it now only drives a single screen. Windows sees both displays but now can't use one. I've tested both displays and they work fine otherwise, and if I unplug one display the dock will "fail over" to the other display without an issue. Is there a way to roll back this firmware update, or am I basically out of luck?

Hi, I have a T470 laptop with the USB-C charger. I'd like to connect a DisplayPort LCD screen to use as a second display while simultaneously being connected to A/C power and charging my batteries. I am having a bit of trouble figuring out what my options are. 1. I could buy a Thunderbolt 3 hub/dock with a DisplayPort connector on it. I would then connect the charger to one of the USB-C ports on the hub/dock, and the screen to the DP connector. From what I can see, these hubs are fairly expensive, so given that I currently don't need to connect any other TB3 devices I'd like to avoid it if possible.2. I could buy a USB-C - DP adapter or cable, but I have not seen anything with some kind of pass-through function which would allow me to connect my charger. I thought daisy chaining was something TB3 can do, but unfortunately the charger does not have the ability to do this (I know a DP connection has to be at the end of the chain).3. The T470 has a slim tip charge port, in addition to the ability to be charged via the TB3 port. Perhaps a USB-C - slim tip adapter exists which would allow me to connect my charger to the slim tip port, and not worry about the lack of daisy chaining in point 2. I've found a different adapter (wrong interface and wrong direction), but nothing that can do this. Thanks for any info/advice!

Hi There Guys, I've just purchased the latest Spectre X360 specifically because it has thunderbolt three, which I would one day like to use with an external GPU. I've read in some places that HP are specifically blocking the use of external GPU's on these devices which is troubling.  Its been confirmed that the spectre does not work with the Razer core Just wondering if this is true and if anyone knows whether this will likely change as if there is no support i'll be returning the laptop before it arrives! Thanks, Jason

A:Thunderbolt 3 External GPU Compatibility/Support

Not sure how you return it before it arrives but if you bought it thinking it would support an eGPU you just bought a big disappointment sandwich. We have no way to know if HP will ever issue a BIOS that does support the razer and other similar Tbolt eGPUs but they did just modify BIOS on the Spectre 13 to allow some 3rd party USB-C chargers.

Hello, My company recently purchased a dual 4k setup for a work station. The setup is the following:2 ThinkVision P27 monitorsLenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 DockT570 (Type: 20HA) I setup the monitors and docking station yesterday and was able to power the displays using a X1 Carbon 5th gen (i5 model type: 20HQ) thru USB-C without issue. I have a user testing out the desk now with a T570. I'm able to get one monitor to funtion at 4K and the other is running at 1080p. If you check display settings I'm unable to increase the resolution to 4K. I've updated all drivers on the T570 including the display driver and thunderbolt docking station driver this morning and the system still fails to power dual 4K. I brought back the X1 I used previously and it powers the screens normally. I checked the specs of the T570 and its identical to the X1 as far as processor is concerned and the model page claims the USB-C port on the T570 can power dual 4K. What else can I try?

Dear Lenovo Community, I recently replaced my t470's external battery pack. However, the new battery pack does not sit flush/snug in the battery tray. It has a slight wiggle/play of about 1mm-2mm. The battery charges normally and there is no loose connection at the contact points. I wanted to check with anyone here if they faced similar quirks? My concern is: the wiggle/play should not get to the point where the battery loses connection with the laptop. Thanks in advance.

My Lenovo T470 Laptop is one month old. Yesterday, I was traveling and plugged it into a wall adapter on a train. I used the charger that was shipped with the laptop. Now, any time I plug in, I am told that I am plugged in but not charging. When I returned from traveling, I connected the laptop to my dock, which charged at first, but now won't charge. I've updated the system, installed Lenovo Vantage, restarted several times, and tried it in a variety of outlets.  Anyone have any input?

Hi,

I know you have a T470 BUT please check the below article.  I also know you were on a train.  However if you turned on "airplane" mode or the system "auto" detected airplane mode the system may not provide enough power to charge laptop and power dock.  So check in Vantage if you have airplane mode on.

Also check this 2nd post.  I know it talks about P70.  In addition it mentions Lenovo Settings.  The settings on the T470 are in Lenovo Vantage.

Hello, I've bought a Lenovo t470 that worked great for 6 months, and recently it started to slow down its performance heavily. Using Resources Monitor, I saw that the CPU was working at 100% even it didn't had any kind of programs open. I have already seen that this problem was very common on this laptop, and it also had a solution: the 1.39 BIOS update released in 2017.I updated BIOS and video card drivers, and none of this solved the problem. I also dug for days in forums looking for possible solutions, as battery performance settings, and others, and none of this worked. The laptop is using Windows 7 and the lastest driver updates. Any word of advice and also any help from official Lenovo employees would be kindly received. As a longlife Lenovo customer (more than 10 years and this is my fourth Thinkpad laptop) I'm really struggling to have any response from official Lenovo employees since I have been calling their tech support for 2 weeks straight with no response, and it would be a shame to have this kind of incident ending such a long-lasting relationship with the brand.

Hi, Got a brand new Lenovo T470, i7 with 16 GB RAM so not the slowest one. Now I had to re-install it because it was superslow from the day of the delivery. After re-installation it was superfast again until I installed Lenovo Companio from the Window store and updated all drivers from Lenovo. Then it became really sluggish, sometimes keyboard inputs weren't even detected and missed, that slow. Funny thing is though, there is zero cpu/mem/disk load. You can't see any load at all but still it's unworkable. I then reinstalled it again, this time no Lenovo Companion and just drivers from Windows Update and it was flying, really really fast. Then I installed companion again and boom, dead slow again. Unusable. So re-installed again and said goodbye to companion and/or Lenovo drivers, just using the ones from Microsoft. I did update to the latest firmware but it made no difference. It's just so much faster without the Lenovo stuff, I can't believe it. Any idea what might cause this?
