I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi...When I sign on to MSN Messenger 6.1, it works OK, but after a few minutes of being idle, it goes into a 'signing out' mode and the only way I can back into it, is by rebooting. I just installed the MS Win Security Update, Feb 2004 and in the same package, there was a freebee antivirus and firewall software (EZ Armor LE) which I installed too. Could these be the cause of my problems?? I would appreciate any suggestions how I can get back to using Messenger normally. My OS ..win98 se...IE 6

I am having a problem with my computer and need to sign into safe mode to remove a program. The problem is that I am not prompted with a sign on in safe mode. How do I remove a program without using safe mode??? or how do enable the sign on for safe mode. Thanks!

A:No sign on prompt in safe mode

Hi newbreed424,

Do you mean that when you boot up your computer and click on the F8 key repeatedly, you do not come to the menu which includes different options for bootup including safe mode? Or do you mean, that when you come to the menu which includes Safe Mode and click on this option, you do not get the logon page and user names?

Normally programs are uninstalled via add-remove programs in Normal Mode. Is there a special reason why you need to remove this program in Safe Mode? Which program is it? What problems are you having? Is it a newly installed program?

Recently I have been getting unusual BSoDs while trying to sign in from sleep mode or shortly after sleep mode. The first time this happened, it told me that the hibernation driver malfunctioned causing the BSoD, this time I don't know what it is telling me. Apparently there were a few other BSoDs too when I was at school and family were trying to use the computer.

I have a gaming keyboard, and it has backlit sections. After the BSoD, I restarted and now my PC seems to be working fine, but the top and lefthand sections are unlit (F keys, ESC, etc.). They work properly, but I thought I should just mention this.

I had multiple issues with this computer (custom built) from the getgo, but I found out that the first hard drive I had was bad. After replacing it, I haven't had any troubles at all for about the past 4-5 months. These blue screens are the first signs of any troubles I may have, so being cautious I just wanted to see if they are something normal or if I should be concerned.

I have attached the ZIP file that was made while using DM log collector.

A:BSOD while trying to sign in from sleep mode

Hi WiredHF.

Your motherboard is a Gigabyte retail one.

SystemManufacturer = Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
SystemProductName = Z97-HD3
But it is OEM license of Lenovo.

Product ID: 00426-OEM-8992662-00497
Only possible with hackers activation exploitation which makes your windows installation counterfeit. And a counterfeit windows installation is not any worthy for troubleshooting. It is subject to BSODs and other issues.

If the activation exploitation is done without your knowledge, ask the system builder to rectify it and give you genuine windows. If the exploitation is done by yourself, get genuine windows and expect a trouble free OS.

I have been used to using an IPad whereby I can show a client a document on the screen and they can sign the document using an app. I can save the document with the signature. I have recently bought a HP Spectre notepad which has a touch screen but i am unable to work out whether or not I can do the same thing in tablet mode. I am seeking to have a document, for example a PDF and have the client sign it with a stylus as I used to on IPad Firstly, is this possible and if so what do I do to allow this please thanks

A:sign on the screen if a notebook in tablet mode

@Tonykeri Welcome to HP Support Forum. There are TWO things you need to check: 1. Does your Spectre support an active stylus ? Please check the following document      http://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c051668792. Which app do you use on the iPad ? You need a similar app (or same app if applicale) on your new Spectre which runs Windows 10. Regards.

i have an ASUS piece of garbage thats not even a year old - model X751N - that opened up today with a series of start-up errors. one was "Inaccessible Boot Device" and it tried repairing itself multiple times. then it opened up automatically in ASUS Bios Utility which i couldnt get out of. i looked online and found a way to get around it, but my overall question is, when im getting these errors and auto-repairing and bios utility...is this generally a sign that the laptop is a goner? i dont think i can trust this unit anymore. its running windows 10 if you need to know.

Currently having problem, in that when I turn on my laptop, it loads very slowly, and when it does eventually reach the sign-in screen it freezes within ~5-10 seconds regardless of whether I have time to enter password or not. I have tried disabling some unnecessary startup processes in safe mode, still no luck though. Every now an then it does work, an will continue to work, even if I put it into sleep mode an restart through that. When I try boot up in safe mode it works fine without freezing. I am running Vista also btw. This is all the info I can think of, I am not incredibly computer literate, but if any more info is required I shall gladly post here if I know how to. Thanks.

A:Freezing on User Sign In Screen [works in safe mode]

Since Safemode works fine, the problem is likely a start-up app.

Use SysInternals AutoRuns - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s...rnals/bb963902

Go through "startup" entries 1-by-1, uncheck a box, see if you can boot into normal Windows.

You have recently removed one or more virusus from this computer, but now a new one has appeared.

First, AOL is extremely slow to start when I click on the icon. Once I've signed on, after a time a new sign-on screen appears on top of what I'm doing. I cancel that one. Soon I see activity at the bottom of the screen (where ordinarily you see "Done" or "//http:/..." etc. The virus is doing its own AOL activity! Soon afterward AOL is canceled, as if I had canceled it.

Also, Microsoft XP suddenly announces they are having to increase my virtual memory. Paging size is currently at 384 Mb, and my RAM is 1.25 GB. This is happening more and more frequently.

I have again changed my AOL sign-on password, and I no longer permit it to use the password automatically (I have to enter it at each sign on).

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I went into my User Accouts in the Control Panel. I deleted a User called Nathon. I created a new user account with Admin authority named Jack.
However, everytime that I start my computer from my morning bootup, the Signon Window has the deleted User, Nathon.
I have to type in Jack, for the new user, and I get into Jacks Account.

Why is Windows not remembering that I have deleted the USER, Nathon?

I have never had such a problem with any of my other windows computers.

After having done the update, I'm having two issues that are bugging me:

1. I cannot change the lock screen from the "cave by the shore" default nor bypass it (Brink is working on the bypass issue I believe)

2. If I go into netplwiz and uncheck the need for a password, the "Welcome" screen has the system default user picture, that drawing of a circle over an arch, not the picture I assigned to the account. With the need for a password, the picture on both the sign-in screen and "Welcome" screen is correct tho.

The lock screen issue I can live with since I normally don't use a password, but the default user picture is bugging me. I went into %ProgramData%\Microsoft\User Account Pictures and replaced all the default pictures with ones the same name and size of the picture that I have for the account, but it still shows the default.

I've searched around for another place where the default picture is, but cannot find any, even with the search including hidden system files.

Anybody know where the system default user pictures are stored, other than in the User Account Pictures?

Hello TheSchaft,

Q1) I've added OPTION THREE in the tutorial below to be able to disable the lock screen again, but it doesn't do so at startup.

Q2) I'm not aware of way to stop this yet when you have netplwiz set to automatically sign in to an account at startup. The blue note box at the top of the tutorial below will show you the default locations for account pictures to help.

Hey everyone

Every now and then my Windows 8.1 x64 shows the first sign-in sequence after a restart. I noticed it most recently happened after a normal Start->Power Options->Restart. I'm quite sure it has also happened after right clicking on start button (Control-X) and restarting from there, as well as from a custom shortcut I have for restart (shutdown.exe /r /t 00).

I had just finished installing IBM SPSS 22 for a class I'm taking, but I think this is unrelated.
It goes through the whole "Setting Up Your PC" and "Installing your apps" screens even though its perfectly fine and and all my data including app data is still there. See the attached file for an example of what was most noticeably shown.

With another incident, something similar to this happened but it actually reset some of my settings for things like MediaMonkey, Connectify Hotspot, GOM Player and VLC player. It was like they had been started for the first time ever with no license information or preferences like Always on Top.

Its not a matter of urgency but I keep worrying that one day it will actually mess with my system in a very annoying way.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

So I just reinstalled Windows 10 on my machine.

Before I had it set up so that I could log in with a password or fingerprint.

Now it seems my only options are (1) password only OR (2) password, PIN or fingerprint.

I don't want PIN as a sign in option. But I have to enable PIN via "Windows Hello" before enabling Fingerprint sign in.

And once I have fingerprint sign in enabled, if I remove the PIN I lose both PIN and fingerprint sign in options.

Any ideas how I can set up password and fingerprint as my only two sign in options?

Q: Airport

I'm going on a flight to arizona in a few days and would like to take my laptop as a carryon.
Would the xray things at the security checkpoints screw with my lappy at all, or should I be safe taking it with me?

I'm through airport security with my laptop very frequently. No problems at all as it gets x-rayed every time. When you pack though, keep it handy 'cos you might often be asked to put it through the x-ray on its own. It's a real pain if it's at the bottom of your hand luggage & you have to unpack in front of lines of staring onlookers!!

I have a iBook G3 900 w/ 384 MB RAM, an Airport card which I use with a Netgear router. Since i got the iBook 3 months ago, the Airport has been working beautifully...no setup even required - i just plugged in the router, opened the iBook, and it was all sweetness and light.

however, last week OS X crashed on me and i was forced to reinstall it. Now, my Airport icon isn't visible in the menu bar, and when i go into Internet Connect and attempt to choose my Netgear router, it shows a strong signal from the router but says "Status not available" and will never let me access the net or use my network. It also doesn't work at my local wi-fi enabled coffeeshop (and did work before) so i know it isn't my router.

anybody have any ideas/experience with this? i love my Mac but know so little about working on them......

I would like to know what I am supposed to put before the WEP key on my airport for my Actiontec gt701-wg so that I can connect. If I call tech support it is $29.95 per call and I don't have that kind of money for this kind of question.

A:Airport and Actiontec WEP

I'm afraid I don't understand the question. What do you mean "before" the key? To enable WEP, you should just turn on the option on each end and enter the same HEX key for each station. Don't use any "passcode" options, since they sometimes generate different keys for different brands of network equipment.

I've just acquired what I belive is a "Sawtooth" PowerMac G4(AGP)

it has a 400mhz processor, 512mb RAM, an ATI AGP 2x card (not sure what kind, possibly a 9xxx series?), DVD/CD and a 30gb Maxtor HD

right next to my graphics card is a square chip that is raised from the board, and if i remember correctly (this was my grandparents old computer) they had wireless, so im guessing this is the airport card.

Only problem is when i installed the OS (OS X 10.2.4) it said i only had modem/ethernet and no airport.

Do i need to update the OS for it to recognize it?

Note:I was given this computer because the 3.6v Lithium battery died inside, and i think they said that because of that the airport card didnt work properly, so right now i have no battery at the moment.

I have a friend who has a Airport network with a mac and a PC.
I have a Ricoh printer with a network card that I used to have on my Ethernet nw. Is it possible to use a Standard TCP/IP address on the printer and install it on his nw? The printer has a PS card so it is Mac ready. But is the Airport Ethernet ready.
If it were an Ethernet nw I would just install a WAP with a switch port and connect the printer to it. But I am clueless about Airport NWs

A:Setting up a printer on an Airport nw

You should be able to connect your printer via network card. Apple Airport uses standard tcp/ip. Just assign the ethernet adapter on the printer an IP address within your network and set your print driver to look at that ip address. I have a Brother printer with an ethernet port working this way and both the mac and pc work fine with it.

Hello, I am new here, and have looked at the rules and stuff, but I hope I'm posting this in the right forum and everything... I am a fairly Advanced Mac/PC user, and I've just bought a MacBook (It hasn't arrived yet). Now, my question:

I would like to buy an AirPort Express for my MacBook. I already have a Linksys Wired router connecting to the internet, 3 computers, and an HP Printer. I would like to put an Ethernet card into one of my computers (Yes, that means I would have two ethernet ports) and connect one to the AirPort Express and then use Windows XP's Bridging function to connect the AirPort to the Internet. So will this work? I assume it will, but I don't want to buy the AirPort if there's a possibility that it won't work. Also, just wondering, will computers on the AirPort network be able to connect to my Network Printer? Thanks in advance. As I mentioned above, I have Windows XP, and of course Mac OS X Tiger on my MacBook.

I recently purchased an apple airport extreme - the reason i did was because i have read good reviews and the articles talked about how easy it is to set up - plug in and play!!

Well, this is my situation...

I have a Macbook Pro, Intel Core Duo laptop with leopard installed.

I also have a fairly new windows desktop pc.

All i want is, to be able to connect my external hard drive to the airport and have the ability to use that as the main disk for the work side of things for my laptop and also for the PC.

I would also like to have the ability to transfer files from the PC to the Mac and visa versa

I have connected the airport to the broadband router, the pc to the airport using a lan cable and plugged in my external HD to the airport using USB.

the internet works fine, but i cant get the external HD working well, sometimes its there and sometimes its not.
i have run the airport utility on the mac and also on the PC and i cant seem to find out the problem.

Additionally i would like to be able to access the external HD for work.

I have a HP Officejet G85 printer connected to my PC - could i share it so i can print from my mac laptop.

Thank you so much

Hi everyone,

I have a rather complex situation that requires (I think) a complex solution that I have not yet worked out!

I have the following:
- ADSL internet connection
- TP-Link TD-W8960N 300Mbps Wireless N ADSL2+ Modem Router
- Brand new Airport extreme
- Four brand airport expresses
- 24 port 3com switch.

My requirements are:
- A contained, protected, office network with wi-fi with access, and also access for wired clients via the 24 port switch.
- A "guest" network with only internet access which needs to be spread throughout a large, old building (thick stone walls!), but cabling is not possible.

My inital thought was to use the TP-Link as only a modem and run the network via the extreme. Plug the switch into the extreme which would also run the office wi-fi and then extend the guest network (nice extra option in the extreme!) thoughout the building with the expresses. Problem is that you cannot extend the guest network with either n or g. I cannot just reverse these two networks because I need wired access to the office network.

The current system has the extreme running only the office network (wi-fi + wired) as a "double NAT" inside the "mother network" which is DHCPed by the TP-LINK with its wireless on (pretty good range). I set the expresses to extend the TP-Link's wireless by old fashioned WDS which I got working but it was incredibly slow just because that is what g WDS is like. I am not using the n capacity of the expr... Read more

Good evening,
I am a long time windows person who just got a powerbook book and set up an airport extreme wireless network..have a cable modem. At the moment I have my powerbook connecting wirelessly and my XP Pro desktop connected to the LAN port in the back of the base station. Everything works and I can connect and do most of what I would like to do..except the video chat program ISPQ which is run from the windows xp desktop. I know there are problems when connected behind a router..I am able to send messages, but not receive them. So, I have been reading everything I can to configure the port masking from the powerbook to get it to work. To be honest, I am pretty comfortable working on computers but I am a total basketcase when it comes to networking and assigning numbers. There are instructions from ispq about setting up the airport with ports 2000-2003. Right now this is what I have:
Public Port Private IP Address Private Port
2000 2000
2001 2001
2002 2002
2003 2003

When I do an IP search on my desktop it says its address is and I tried changing the private IP addresses to that so it would look for that machine, but it didn't help. Was just hoping for some advice..don't want to give up if it is poosible.

I've been struggling with this for quite some time now and would like to figure out once and for all if this is actually going to work for me.

I have an AirPort Express and am trying to integrate it into my NetGear wireless network (802.11 b/g) which is comprised of 3 XP notebooks.
From my understanding, I would need to do a one-time hook up of the Express to my router (via ethernet cable) for initial configuration. Then I could move it to any room of my house, plug it into the wall and connect to my network wirelessly (like an access point) or plug in an ethernet cable and connect that way, which was my original intent (for my PlayStation 2).

At this point, I just want it to work

I've tried the configuration several time and it still won't work for me
and I'm getting frustrated with it. When I log into the configuration screen for the Express, I can't even "see" the router. I've been thru the intstructions several times and even looked for help on the Apple support site and in other forums, but they don't seem to be of much help.

So I pose my question to you. Will this work within my network?

Please tell me I don't need another AirPort Express to "talk" to this one!?!?!?!

I'm not to up on the Mac software but you probably want to check the ip address set-up on the laptop and make sure that it's set to DHCP to automatically have the ip address assigned from the router to it. Check the ip address you get on the laptop and compare it to the address that the PC has, should be in the same range (like 192.168.0.XX) Check to see if the laptop is using the wireless connection for the network.

Is there a definitive answer these days about whether the x-rays at airport screenings can damage floppy disks?

Last time I flew, I just asked for them to be hand-searched instead, but you never know if those guys will give you a hard time.

A:Floppies & airport x-rays

Xrays make no problems for floppies, it's magnets and high temperatures that you need to worry about.

I need help. That's why I'm here, right?

Here's the deal. We have DSL, using the phone company's modem, which is connected via ethernet cable to my AirPort Extreme base station. I use my Mac PowerBook G4 wirelessly and have great signal all over the whole house. The AirPort is in my husband's office at one end of the house.

Hubby works from home sometimes using his company's laptop (a pc) wirelessly, he gets great signal all over the house.

Hubby also has a pc laptop which he can use wirelessly more or less all over the house. He was getting a really bad signal anywhere other than the office where the AirPort is, so we got a Hawking antenna and that seems to have helped.

Here's where I need help. I am starting a work at home job where I will need to be hard wired. My office is upstairs, pretty close to just above his office. Would like to somehow maintain what we have as far as the wireless but also be able to hardwire his pc laptop from upstairs. If we have a second dsl jack put in by the phone company they will charge us for two dsl connections and we'd like to avoid this if possible.

Is there any way at all to accomplish this? Something we can do ourselves? We're both pretty tech savvy...

I thank y'all in advance

A:One AirPort, multiple computers

Pull an ethernet drop between the floors. Have the one end plugged into the AirPort and the other end terminated to a wall plate where your Hubby can just plug an ethernet patch cord into the jack from his laptop. Depending on wall access and such, this can be a relatively easy task to a pain in the rear.

I have an airport express with the USB port on it. M9470LL/A

When i plug it into to the wall, the amber light stays on but then it starts to flash, which means that there is something wrong.I have a printer, sound and Ethernet connected to it. when a launch the airport utility it recognizes it but when i set it up it looses the connection with it by the end of the setup. it tells me that setup failed and that i should try again. I tried many times but it still fails. I tried resetting it to factory settings. still no luck. I am trying to set it up on a windows xp laptop. any suggestions?

i don't have the original CD that came with it so i don't have the airport setup assistant. does any one have a link where i can download it?

A:Airport Express problem

I'm having an issue with my Airport extreme and I hope someone can help. If I plug my Macbook directly into the cable modem via ethernet cord I can connect to the Internet fine. However, if I plug the ethernet into the Airport (and power cycle both it and the modem) the light is green but my Mac can't open any web pages. I am getting the "you are not connected to the Internet" message in Safari. This issue is happening on both PCs and Macs and is incredibly frustrating. I've tried resetting the Airport to factory settings and Comcast gave me a new cable modem but neither of those tries helped. I'm stumped.

I'm sure there's something really simple that I am missing but I need some expert help figuring out what that missing step might be! Thanks in advance.

I just replaced my old wired VPN router with the latest AirPort router for a wireless network. I confirmed the Zoom x5 DSL modem was still working. I was successful in getting the new router to work, but when I added a computer to the network, I got "The DNS server isn't responding." My network is a mess. Any suggestions?

A:Zoom + AirPort = DNS not responding

Open cmd window by typing cmd in search>then type ipconfig /all > %userprofile%\desktop\ipdetails.txt.
Take that file and upload it to us.
Also try in cmd window Ping MSN.com, and tell us the results

Well I've had my MacBook since December '07 and I've noticed that sometimes AirPort just doesn't want to let me use the internet.

I'm on wireless internet at home with a Netgear Router. The Mac is like "I'll do what I want when I feel like it" and it'll just keep preventing me from using my internet. It works sometimes but others not. I've tried restarting, shutting down and turning on/off of Air Port but it doesn't help.

Then on some days that I try, it works perfect and I can access the internet.

So why does it do it? How can I stop it from doing it as it's really quite annoying.

A:MacBook AirPort annoyance.

I know nothing about MACs, but one possible problem is wireless interference, such as from another network on the same or close channel.
