brother printer MFC-J615W won't print

Q: brother printer MFC-J615W won't print

Can someone help me figure out how to get my printer working again. I just moved to another state and perhaps something happened during the move. First it wouldn't print because I needed a new black ink cartridge. That didn't help. Page would print only a graphic or the text was a pale blue impossible to read.

I tried to reinstall with my driver CD, but now the printer won't run at all; won't even try to print a page, doesn't make a sound. And it keeps turning itself off. I use Windows XP Pro. Sure would appreciate some advice. Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have been trying to install a new printer on my laptop. I have a Gateway MC78 series running Vista Ultimate. I have already installed and can print wirelessly on another laptop without a problem but its running Windows 7. While this proves the printer works, I'm desperate to get it working on my Vista laptop. I've also tried Brother Support but they blamed my computer and couldn't help.

I've installed and uninstalled the software from the CD, the Brother website as well as letting the plug and play on my computer install the drivers. The error message I get when I try to view the properties of the printer as an Admin is that the printer drivers are not installed! I know the laptop is communicating with the printer because the Brother Print Monitor shows the ink status of the printer, it just won't print. I'm using a USB cable to connect to the printer because I couldn't get the laptop to print wirelessly. Although it may have connected because I could see everything I do now, it just wouldn't print because the drivers are not installed.

My goal for now is to get this to print and then I'll try setting up wirelessly. Once my computer sees the printer drivers, I'm sure using the wireless won't be a problem.

I am desperate to get the laptop to work with the printer. This laptop has everything on it and I will be leaving town next week with the other laptop. My husband will need to use the printer while I'm gone. I ... Read more

I'm just wrapping up installation of a new computer, including a clean install of Windows 10. We have a networked Brother MFC-8480DN. I went to Brother's site, retrieved and installed the full driver and software package for this printer and 64-bit Win 10. There were no errors or warnings indicated during the installation. I rebooted the computers, and attempted to print a test page from Word. Nothing happened -- Word didn't give any error messages, but nothing was queued to the printer.

The printer is set as my default printer. The status shows 'working properly'. The device troubleshooter is unable to detect any errors. In attempting to print a test page from the Printer Properties dialog, it immediately pops up with 'Test page failed to print'.

I can "talk" to the printer. There's a web management page which I can reach without problem through a browser. One of the programs installed with the Brother package was a scan and fax utility, which I tried and had no problem scanning something.

So I'm really at a loss what the problem might be, or where to go from here. I hope someone can help.

I have a home network that includes-
Two Windows 7 PCsTwo Linux machinesA Brother MFC7820N networked multifunction printer

All the above are on wired connections. Then there's an 802.11n wireless link for laptops and media devices.

I'm just setting up a new machine that's running Windows 10 Home, using the wireless network. I was annoyed to find that Brother don't have a full-function Windows 10 driver for the 7820N that supports scanning, but the Brother site says the built-in drivers in Win 10 should work for basic printing.

I successfully added the printer device to Windows 10 (at the 3rd attempt) using the "manual advanced" method. The printer has an entry in the hosts file, and was added by host name. The printer fails to print, with a "not responding" type message. The driver also can't pick up the status info from the printer.

What's really weird is-
I can ping the printer from the W10 box (and the other machines) by either IP address or hostname. However, this printer has a web interface. I can access this from any of the Windows 7 machines, but the Windows 10 machine says "web site failed to respond" or somesuch. This happens with any of: Edge, IE11, or Chrome browsers.I can't even make a manual connection (telnet to port 80) from the Win 10 machine (timeout). The Windows 10 machine CAN access all the other devices on the home network, including the web servers (Apache) on both the Linux boxes.

This looks like the web access... Read more

[Amazon] Brother Printer MFCJ450DW
[Brother USA] Brother MFC-J450DW

Here's what happened. My family and I are looking for a new printer, and we're tired of being scammed by either cheap pieces of crap that don't last a year, or reliable printers with proprietary and/or expensive ink replacements. We initially set out to find a laser printer, and I found a really nice one, but it was monochrome. I am the only one who was fine with it. Everyone else said "COLOR ONLY!" pretty much unanimously.

That quickly ruled out laser printers, since I found it impossible to find a reliable, color laser printer with low operating costs within our measly budget of $200. I'm the only tech-minded person in the family, and I just can't get anyone on board with the idea of buying a more expensive and reliable product up front for years of savings down the line. That puts me in a very tight spot.

I eventually found these Brother Work Smart All-in-ones, and they have some of the highest reviews on Amazon. We chose the MFC-J870DW over the MFC-J450DW simply because it is the "higher model" and they're the same price on Amazon. However, I noticed this morning that they are so similar, and we were looking at both of them, that I accidentally purchased the MFC-J450DW instead.

We all literally could not care... Read more

Hope this is the correct Forum for Printer questions.
Is it ?

Have a 5 yr old Brother printer (HL-2140) which uses a TN-360 ink Cartridge.

A Brother branded "high yield" TN-360 goes for about $ 50. Wow.

I see that Amazon carries several other non Brother, but supposedly compatible
TN-360 cartridges by mfg. names I've never heard of.

Much, much cheaper.
Am willing to try one, but am very uncertain which of the brands to go with.

Anyone have any experience with non Brother labeled "compatible" cartridges ?
Any good ?
Which Brand should I try, perhaps ?

Note: It's almost worth buying a brand new Brother printer instead !

Thought on ?

A:Brother Printer and Non-Brother Branded Ink Cartridges ?

Hi, again:

You will likely find that the answer to this question falls into 2 major camps:
Only use OEM, branded ink from the printer manufacturer (or a trusted, high-volume, reputable seller), OR
It's perfectly fine to use knockoff, refurb, non-branded
I don't know anything about Brother, as I have been using HP printers/all-in-ones since the days of the printing press.

No matter which brand, in the printer industry, the ink/toner is how the manufacturer makes its money, not on the hardware.

There are many factors in the risk:benefit calculation, such as budget, volume of printing needs, need for optimal performance, etc.

My own personal experience for relatively heavy home/home office use is that it is not worth skimping on the cost of discounted ink/toner.
There can be serious quality issues with the cheap stuff (even branded, refurbished ones).
And there can be quality issues even when buying "new" OEM ink/toner from 3rd-party sites or even brick and mortar big box stores (the items may be legit, but they are stale).
If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is.
HP has a terrific ink/toner program -- 2 or 3 mouse clicks and I have the products on my doorstep 1 or 2 business days later, with free shipping. The price is highly competitive, and the ink/toner is always fresh and high-quality. This works very well for me.

Your mileage may vary, of course....
Cheers, MM

hello dear sir
I have the problem with my printers in my office . the printers are HP laser jet 1300 and 2035.
my problems is : After I print a document , printer does not stop and printing white papers until I stop print service or power down the printer.
whenI push ctrl+p  to print ,
some files like shockwave.shd appears in this address." c:\windows\system 32\spooler\printers". and these files never vanished unless i stop the print spooler.
I know that  : The following briefly describes the purpose
of SPL, SHD, and TMP files:

SPL files are the actual spool (print job) files.

TMP files are usually associated with LPR print jobs.

SHD files provide information about which printer the print job was sent to and from
whom the print job came. An SHD file is a "shadow" file that keeps track of what logical printer a (same number) xxxxx.spl file goes to. It also contains the file's order in the queue, the user who sent the file to the printer, and other information.
These files are usually deleted unless the logical printer settings state otherwise.
but these files  never vanished and untils these file were removed manually ,
printer cant print at all.
please help me .

I've had it since new and never had a problem with it- I moved from one room to another last week and now it won't print. It is always run from either USB 1 or 2 ports on my laptop. When trying to print a test page from the laptop, it says that it is "sent to printer" but nothing prints. I tried both USB ports with my mouse and both are fine.
I checked and swapped the USB cables, uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled from CD. Also uninstalled it from the programs menu.
The laptop - when the printer is first connected recognises the printer and wants to install the drivers. So cable is OK.
Original instruction manual said - disconnect from computer, when the printer lights stop flashing press GO and it will print a test page. Didn't work, so that takes out the laptop out of the equation.
I've checked the cartridge, paper all fine.
Any other suggestions - other than call a printer technician - which are few a far between in this area.

BTW, I am using windows 7 if that makes a difference & I have installed the latest driver for the printer.

A:Brother MFC-8480DN will print, but not scan.

Scanning is almost always an issue when trying to use wifi or network connected devices. The problem is typically in the device config or software config on the computer. The input could also be blocked by AV or firewall software.

This is common as the computer (ie: OS/AV/firewall) doesn't like external input writing to the HDD.

Strange problem here. Recently, I replaced the black ink cartridge, and since then, it either won't print black, or it prints a bunch of really blurry lines. Then, when I print in other colors, it prints perfectly. Or if I print a fax, and print out the fax receipt, in black, it will print the receipt perfectly. Also, when I copy something, in black, it gives me the same garbled black print that it does when I try to print in black. I can print in other colors, but not black. My Brother MFC 5440cn has a continuous error "cannot print, blah, blah, blah," formerly known as error 41. Brother tells me to take it in for servicing but will give me no information about the error. The printer is about 18 months old. My question is HOW do I take out the print head so I can clean it? I have found information on earlier Brother models that have the print head under the ink cartridges but this set up is different. The ink cartridges have tubes going to the print head. The computer is fried and I'm not going to pay to fix it so I figure I'm gonna learn how to fix hardware. Thanking you in advance. P.S. I'm a hardware newbie so idiot proof directions please.

A:Solved: Brother MFC 5440cn print head issue

I'm afraid the only info I can give you is that without very specific factory servicing instructions, printer maintenance (and especially Brother printer maintenance) can be a major pain.

Printers are usually full of fragile parts and are almost always messy to work on. Often repair parts costs will be more than the printer is worth new. But if you really love this printer and have lots of patience and mechanical ability you might as well give it a try.

Sorry I can't offer you more hope, but look at the bright side, if you do fix it...you'll be the resident expert here!

Whenever I print to the shared printer on my Windows 7 desktop, the print job will just sit in the print queue. If I stop and then start the print spooler, the job will print. It happens from an XP laptop. Print jobs sent from the local Windows 7 computer print just fine.
How can i solve this one ? :(

This issue with some particular laptop running windows Xp and windows 7 Home

A:Whenever I print to the shared printer he print job will just sit in the print queue

So, the Windows 7 Desktop has the printer physically attached to it and it's shared?
And the XP laptop is sharing the printer through the network? If I understand you correctly?
If so, on the XP Laptop, go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. Are there any devices with yellow flags? Or Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers is there an Unknown Device? Or any listings for the printer? If so, right click it and Uninstall it. Now go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press enter. In the Add Remove Programs uninstall any drivers or software for the printer. Now,go to Printers and Faxes, and if the printer icons is there, Right click the shared printer icon and Delete it. And Restart the computer. Now when the computer comes back up, go to the printer manufacturers support/download drivers site and type in the model# for the printer and download the driver for the printer for XP and install it. Now, go to Start/Run and type the computer name of the Windows 7 machine (ex) \\ComputerName and press enter. A window should open up with the shared drives on the 7 computer, with the shared printer. Right click the shared printer and choose Connect. This will add the printer to Printers and Faxes again. Right click this printer/Properties and print a Test Page.

OK, I'm using Windows 7 on a 64 bit quad core Asus PC in my part time business home office here.

About a year ago, I bought a Brother MFC-J6910DW multifunction. It was apparently poorly designed, because it printed in "reverse order", right out of the box. What this means is that, if I print a 100 page document, it will print the stack out with page 1 on the BOTTOM and page 100 on top, and if I want it in correct order ( of all my NERVE ) I'd have to hand sort it in reverse. YES, this seems INSANE but this is how they designed this printer!

The only "work around", I was told by support, was to set it to print in "reverse order", so that page 1 would come out at the top of the 100 pages. I kid you not, folks! So I did it, it sort of solved the problem, but was very slow at printing large files ( over about 40 pages ) because it apparently had to process them in reverse order in the Windows print spooler, then print them? So this went on until last week, when something went wrong in the scanner software and it could no longer communicate ( using this via wifi ) with my PC. So I had to uninstall the huge software app, and reinstall it again. I set the "reverse order" setting in the devices and printers settings, as the default, being I knew painfully about it, this time.

SO today, I had a rush project and had to print a file that was 42 pages. I started around 10 AM and was supposed to go out with the work around 1 PM. I needed 6 sets,... Read more

I had a paper jam in my Brother MFC 5440-CN. Cleared the jam, but printer still wouldn't print. It was balking because it thought that three of the ink cartridges, which were all at least 1/3 full, were empty.

Usually I've been able to get it to print anyway, but this time I gave up, finally, and replaced the cartridges with new ones; also I unplugged and plugged it, made sure the paper tray was just right, and then - ta-da! - got it to print a page.

Foolishly allowing this success to go to my head, I decided to run the printer through a cleaning cycle, after I printed out a test pattern that was a little bit off. At that point, the printer beeped several times in its charming shrill, high-pitched way, and ever since has been displaying "Unable to print - see troubleshooting and routine maintenance chapter in user's guide". Also, it won't shut down unless unplugged.

There wasn't much that was relevant in the guide, other than things I'd already tried. When I plug it back in and try to print something, it makes a ratcheting sound that is not part of its normal printing sounds, so I turned it over and put some oil on a horizontal metal rod that must be part of the paper feeding mechanism. This did nothing except guarantee greasy print-outs if I ever get this thing going again.

I attempted to reinstall the drivers. The Brother Solution Site says to download them and choose "desktop" for their destination, after which you ca... Read more

Hi again...

I have a Brother All In One which was working fine in Windows 7 but is now contstantly showing up as "offline" in the print queue. I have a home network with my "main" machine my desktop running Win 7. I have 2 other laptops - one is a HP with Vista, and the other is a Macbook Pro. I have been able to print today from the laptops, but the desktop (Win 7) tells me that the machine is offline. To be clear, the machine is on, and is connected to my network.

Windows 7 is being stubborn and is not recognizing that it's online. I've printed to it in the past and now it's not cooperating (when I need it to, of course).
