Q: Help me recover....?, Partition Deleted, Help Me Recover It

I was installing a fresh copy of Windows, when I wasnt paying attention and accidentally deleted the wrong partition(which was my full 80g hard drive that has everything on it!!). Luckily, I noticed what I had done BEFORE I formatted it. So now the partition is an unpartitioned 80g, and I installed a fresh copy of xp on the RIGHT hard drive i meant to install it on in the first place! Can anyone help me? That hard drive is very important to me, and I know there has to be a way to get it back. For right now I am leaving the unpartitioned drive alone until I get some feedback. So if anyone can help, suggest a EASY to use program, or give any support, IT WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED! Thankyou very much!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Guys,

I have two HDs, 80 Gig primary and 120 gig secondary. I had win xp installed and running off the 80 gig and I backed up all my files onto the 120 gig. I then decided to format the 80 gig drive

I used a win 98 boot disk and formatted the 80 gig hd. then I started the win xp cd and it asked which partition I would like to choose. I chose the partitioned 120 gig drive not realizing what I had done. I confirmed the partition removal and then realized what I did. So I start flipping out and I restart my comp

I looked for my files and 120 gig drive but it was gone. I'm really going crazy. So I researched a little and I have two utilities on disk (mbrwork and testdisk) I started to run mbrwork and it has been searching for recoverable partitions for the past 2 hours. I don't know what to do and I really need the files on the 120 gig HD. I didn't install windows and I haven't done anything other than run the utility. Can someone please help me. I don't know what I'll do if I can't get my files back.

Thanks

A:recover deleted partition please HELP!

Rob, There are utilities that can rebuild a File Allocation Table. I have never used one but I understand that they work by installing the hosed drive as a slave to another bootable drive and running the software from the boot drive to fix the slave.

I can't tell you any names but a Google search should get you plenty of hits.

Good luck. There is hope.

>>I checked with one of my favorite software producers, Acronis, and found this. If it works like the other software I use from them, it'll be all you need.

Hi-

I accidentally started to install a new version of XP Home on an existing partition that had a good working XP home on it. I got to the point on the install where it highlighted the good partition and I hit "L" to erase it. At that point I stopped and tried a repair from the XP Home disk but no luck. Since it didn't overwrite it (probably just erased some pointers) is there any way to get back the good partition/OS that was on this disk?

Thanks

Download Partition Wizard and burn to CD with Windows Image Burner.

Boot and run the Partition Wizard Partition Recovery Wizard - Video Help.

Once all partitions are recovered, post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image - Windows 7 Forums. Tell us exactly what you want to do and we will give you the steps.

While trying to reinstall Windows 8 on a home PC we pulled the wrong hard drive and did a clean install on a drive that was being used to store a ton of files (videos, images, documents, etc) rather then a smaller drive that should have had the OS installed on it.

The original partition (on the storage drive) was deleted and then had 8 clean installed on it.

Is there any way to recover that deleted partition to get the files back?

Right now we're running a SuperScan with [email protected] Partition Recovery on the drive in question and it looks like it's going to take about 5 hours to complete. What's worrying us at the moment is the software is showing the deleted partition, and has folders from it in it, but there are no files. For example no videos or images yet.

I'm wondering if that just means the scan needs to complete or what. I don't know if anyone here has used [email protected] or has a better recommendation for partition recovery (if it's possible at this point) but the partition we're hoping to recover is listed as "Good".

Thanks in advance for any and all advice, if you need any more information, just let me know.

I just made a terrible mistake!

I've recently set up a desktop PC after 2 years without one.

Anyway, I've been backing up all my old 3.5 Inch HD's to newer and larger drives.

I just got finished moving a heap of files to a new drive, and when done, accidentally deleted the partition of the new drive and was just about to format it thinking it was the old empty drive when I realised what I had done...

So my question is, is it possible to recover a deleted partition? I'm guessing all the information is still on the drive as I haven't actually formatted it.

Any help would be much appreciated!

A:How can I recover an accidentally deleted HD partition?

Yes.

Undelete it.

Partition recovery function on any number of partition tools will do that.

Partition wizard free is popular.

Best done from a boot disc here: Partition Wizard Bootable CD allows user to manage partition directly with partition manager bootable CD.

I have two hard disk in my computer, Disk0 (500gb) and Disk1 (150gb). Problem is with disk1. 1st it was being used for Windows 7 (EFI, one main primary partition and Windows hidden system partitions) then I formatted it as FAT32 and used for backup and data.

During Windows 8.1 installation, when I was erasing partition on Disk0, accidentally / mistakenly deleted all small partitions on Disk1, didn't touch the bigger main partition of 149gb where the data is stored, now the situation is that in Windows Storage Management it's showing that partition as healthy partition but not as FAT32 but as 'Other' and I can not assign drive latter to it as all options are grayed out.

Tried some data recovery tools, can recover data using some of them but it's messed up, no folder hierarchy, no proper file names, very difficult to sort out, would you please suggest any better option, any way to recover partition to working state, or any data recovery with proper folders hierarchy?

A:Recover deleted partition table

If a partition is deleted but not formatted then it can be recovered using Partition Wizard Partition Recovery Wizard - Video Help.

Try also using PW to assign a drive letter to the data partition. How to Change Letter with partition manager - Partition Wizard Video Help.

If that fails try using Diskpart to assign a drive letter from booted Win7 installer System Recovery Options Command Line: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...=ws.10%29.aspx

A failed partition which cannot be assigned a letter using steps above can sometimes have its table restored using DiskGenius trial.

Once you can assign a letter I'd back up your data which should have already been backed up if it has any value to it, then run Disk Check or Partition Wizard Check File System

If you didn't create a new partition and installed files or a new OS over the space that was once the old partition, then there is a good chance you can recover.
Use the Free TestDisk program. I have had the best luck with GetDataBack. You will need another partition or drive of the same size or larger to restore your files to.

Hi everyone,
I was trying to format my laptop and install a new version of Windows 8. I deleted my old Windows 8 partition and tried to install the new version, but I got an error about some GPT stuff.
I've looked for what it is and I found out that I could have just reinstalled Windows 8 using the Update and Recovery of Windows.
The problem is that I don't have the Windows 8 partition anymore. Is there a way to recover it now? Or do I have to install a new version of Windows 8?
In case, could you tell me how to go around the GPT problem?

My Laptop is a Lenovo Z580 and I haven't done anything after deleting the Windows 8 partition.

Thank you!

Boot from the Windows installation media in UEFI Boot Mode, so you can use GPT (GUID Partition Table).

Quote from this post: UEFI Boot Mode (installing using the GPT partition style) and Legacy BIOS Boot Mode (installing using the MBR partition style). -> link

   Tip
Error message when you boot from the Windows installation media in Legacy BIOS Boot Mode:

Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style. (see screenshot below)

That is because Windows can only be installed to MBR disk in Legacy BIOS Boot Mode, but you plan to install Windows on a GPT disk.

- Boot from the Windows installation media in UEFI Boot Mode, so you can use GPT (GUID Partition Table).
- But if you want to use MBR (Master Boot Record) partition table, then delete all partitions on the disk.

Hello Sam, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I hope you have a backup of that deleted partition somewhere. Since you cleaned the disk, created new partitions, and formatted, the chances of recovering that deleted partition are very slim.

You might see if an option in the tutorial below may be able to recover it for you, but it doesn't sound promising.

Ok so I apologize in advance if this story is a bit long, and horrifying (actually it's probably entertaining xD). I purchased the Lenovo y510p gaming laptop on back on July 14th 2014. I got the laptop, and it just didn't work for me. It didn't play the games I wanted it to, it had overheating issues, the keyboard had a really sharp edge making typing uncomfortable as well. After installing Sony Vegas and Avast, and just shifting some of my personal photos/music over, I made a backup of the laptop using the OneKey Recovery software. This backup was made to one of my 500GB external hard drives. So I then decided that I just didn't like the laptop, and it was time to return it. I called Newegg, and got my RMA all ready to go. Because I had lot of my personal files and programs, I decided the fastest way to delete everything would be to use the OneKey Recovery by Lenovo, and do a factory reset. At the time, I didn't think anything of this then simply putting the laptop back to exactly how I got it. I even booted it up after the factory reset, and it looked just like the first day I got it. Fast forward 2 weeks, and my RMA is denied from Newegg:   Your RMA (RMA Number: 60470880) return was received and sent to our Inspections Department for closer examination. 34-313-740 NB LENOVO IDEAPAD Y510P 59406636 RTSystem has been modified/altered original manufacturers operating system has been removed cannot access restore partition, this voids Newegg w... A:How to recover deleted "Recovery Partition"

If you only used One Key Recovery by Lenovo, it should not delete the partition. (I hope you did not format the whole system) Once you receive the laptop, you can check if this partition still exists in Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Disk Management. It should show some drives, other than the C: , D: and the SSD (if you have). Those drives are the recovery partitions. I can post a sample screenshot in the evening. Sadly, I do not know any way to recover that partition. As I have seen on this forum several people who lost that partition could not roll back their laptop to original settings without a recovery drive (which is different from a recovery backup).

Hi Guys

I'm running XP and Lubuntu on an old pc. I recently erased my Local Disk D, which had most of my personal data on it. Local Disk C is still there and contains the XP OS.

I'm not so bothered about losing the data that was in D (the really important stuff was backed up) but Disk D took up nearly 40GB of space which I am now unable to access or utilise.

The full story is long so rather than recite it here if anyone is able to try to help it would be better if I just supply information as and when you require it.

I should say that I'm very much an IT beginner; until this all started I hadn't even heard of partitions, and sadly I'm still struggling with them.

I deleted a partion using the windows 7 installer disk. Unfortunately I was a bit click happy and deleted my secondary drive (one partition if you call it that, as it took up the whole disk). This is my data drive. I keep everything there including a lot of very large, multimedia files that I cannot live without. After picking my heart back up out of my shoe I started asking for help and downloading as many free tools as I can. None of them have worked satisfactorily. Find and Mount looked extremely promising, saying it would find a mark on the HDD where a partition had been made previously and then allowing me to mount a read only version, then copying all the files as though the partition had never been damaged, if I wanted. Funnily enough not only did it fail to find a visable or lost partition on this drive, it even failed to find working partitions on any other drive. Pfft.I've tried Paragon Partition Manager. It told me my drive had errors and to run chkdsk. I did this but it didn't help. The programme had the same errors when I tested it on another drive. Another pfft.I tried EASEUS Partition Manager. It found the files... but it copied all 253 gb of them as 'raw' files or something like that. This means they were completely out of order, no folders and renamed 'file001.jpg' etc. This is useless for me as a lot of my files are .RARs that need to be in a sequence to option or similar issues and also with over 25000 files I cannot be arsed o... Hello,
Could you please help me to solve the problem i faced recently. Let me explain you what happened in detail.
Initially I had 2TB Seagate Expansion Desk HDD, partitioned into 500GB, 13GB, 293GB, all three Bitlocker encrypted and 1 more 500GB unencrypted partition, the rest of the space was unallocated. Few days ago, by mistake, while I was creating Windows Recovery
Disk chose the wrong drive letter and ended up whole partitions above deleted. Here?s what I have in HDD now: 32GB Windows 8 Recovery partition and 1831GB unallocated space. After that I haven?t made any changes to the drive. I was able to restore the data
from the last unencrypted part by using Getdataback SW but with no luck in my Bitlocker encrypted partitions. I would appreciate any advice to restore the bitlockerencrypted partitions as I have the password and recovery keys to decrypt and retrieve my data
back.

Softwares I have: Recuva. Handy Recovery. R-Studio. Getdataback. M3 Bitlocker Recovery. Starus Partition Recovery. TestDisk

I can provide the snapshots of the results from recovery softwares should you need them. Thank you very much!

But I don't know how to do it. Also now when the boot partition is deleted and the system is not booting up what should be done to recover the system and data?

Hi all, a while ago I had the idea to start from scratch to clean up the system and gain more performance. But I have not done yet because I have some doubts.

On the PC I have Acronis True Image Home 2011
--> In the part where it says My backups I see the image that I have saved.
--> When I click on "Explore and recover" :To the right I see 2 items to recover: "Reserved for System and Local Disk (C)"
Therefore, the partition (D)will remain intact. Right ? But if I want to restore everything, both partitions, i have to use the option "Files and folders" ?

Extra info : I did not create the image, other person is who created it :P

A:Difference between recover partitions or recover files and folders.

How long ago was that Acronis image made?

I guess I don't understand your intent. You talk about starting over to clean up and gain more performance, but then express interest in restoring "everything".

Was that image made at a time when your system was running perfectly? How has your system changed since that date? If you restore, you will have to reinstall any applications you've acquired since the image was made. And that image won't contain any personal data acquired since it was made. Maybe it contains no personal data at all?
If you are going to "start from scratch", I assume you mean you want to do a clean install of Windows.

If you were to do that, the only thing in that image file that might possibly be important to you would be personal files---pictures, videos, mp3s, Word documents, browser bookmarks, possibly email, etc. And that would be personal files as of the date of that image, not your current personal files. And not Windows itself.

If I wanted to "start over", I would:

1: back up all current personal files to some other drive, probably external. I would NOT use an image for this. I'd just copy them with the mouse.

2: reinstall Windows.

If I did those 2 things, the contents of the Acronis image would be irrelevant.

You should forget about Acronis if you don't understand it or know whats in any images you have. Particularly if you didn't make the image yourself. Images can fail you anyway. I'd never rely on them exclusi... Read more

I have inadvertantly deleted a personal file (containing data and pictures files) from my laptop.I tried to use recovery programs to recover at least the pictures. I have recovered some of the files containing the pictures, but cannot open these pictures . When trying to open each picture (of the recovered ones) I've got the following note:"Paint cannot read this file. This is not a valid bitmap file, ot its format is not currently supported"I checked the System Restore and found that a restore point is available to the date prior the delete. Can System Restore recover the deleted file?Note: The file was installed on the Desktop (before being deleted).I am using Windows XP ProThanks for your assitance.

A:Recover A Deleted File

The restore point may work for you, or it may not. Persoanlly, that's a tough call, because you risk erasing the deleted version where you can't retrieve it, and you risk the possibility that the restore point won't work, and at the same time, erased any possible chance of you recovering what was accidentally deleted. If possible, the best way you is to hook the hard drive in question to another computer as the slave. And then use the other computer to get the data off, because you stand the risk of that sector of the hard drive to be over-written with data if you add/install a program to the computer. It's not always true.. but that risk still exists. If you don't have access to another computer then you'll want to use a few FREE ones that are out there. Look in the Commercial FREEWare forum here on this site. Sorry, I forget the link right off hand. But whatever you do, don't keep deleting and (or) modifying the hard drive if you want your data back. By all means, just download what you need, and do as less installing/deleting on that computer as possible. And then again, if you feel that the Restore Point will bring back the data, then all I can say is go for it. Hi, priya sehgal. Welcome to TSF!

Recovering files is easy to do and you can easily do it by using Recuva (which you'll find a link for in my signature, it's highlighted dark brown/redish).

Here's a beginner's guide on recovering files with Recuva[1].

I accidentally deleted my portable hard drive volume when messing around with Disk Management on Windows 7. The hard drive is formatted using FAT32 and is about 120GB. Is there any way to recover it? I have all media and some important documents in there. Any help would be really appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi,

You can use the undelete option in a 3rd party partition manager. As long as you haven't attempted to change that partition in any way other than delete it, should work fine.

If you have a partition Manager - see if it has that option. Post back and let me know.

(1) By accident my user profile (C:\Documents and settings\<username>) got deleted.
(2) I found it in Recycle bin and "restored" it.
(3) However, the "restore" failed to include the normally hidden folder
C:\Documents and settings\<username>\LocalSettings and all of its contents!

(4) As a consequence, because LocalSettings includes ApplicationData\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.pst, I lost all of my emails, address book etc.

We have tried various recover programs including a deep scan of the directory of the hard disk by have failed totally to find the lost folder and its contents.

Does anyone have any idea what happened and suggestions for additional things to try?

Thanks

Hi,

I've done a stupid stupid stupid thing and lost an important excel spreadsheet that I last used about two weeks ago. I've been having various performance problems (freezes/crashes) and was advised to run "Malwarebytes' anti-malware".

Before I did this, I backed up all my data to a CD-ROM and then deleted the files from my laptop. Then I went ahead and ran the software. The good news: my laptop seems to be behaving itself far better now. The bad news: somehow I seem to have missed this one file when backing up. I've got all my family photos, lots of stuff from work, even old stuff that I'll probably never need again but I thought "What the heck". Yet somehow, I've missed this one spreadsheet. I could kick myself!!

To make matters (probably) worse, I've run CCleaner a couple of times since then, as I was advised that it keeps the laptop clean. I've just looked at some settings there now and it's using "Normal" file deletion as opposed to "Secure", but "Wipe Free Space" is selected. Damn!

I only realised I'd lost the file last night and I have already downloaded some freeware utilities such as "Restoration" and "Undelete Plus", but none of these found the file.

Should I just give up now? Or is there some software that may find a file even after CCleaner has been run.

Grateful for any help.

Pat

i was using this ACDSee Classic picture program to to view and delete a lot of photos about 8GB 27,500 pix worth. and i noticed these 2 .jpg files in the folder with all the other ones that had no image properties and had no picture to view even though they were about 120KB in size.. so i decided to delete them becuz they were corrupt i guess.. so apon deleting them the ACDSee app froze or something so I had to terminate its process from the task manager.. then when i went back to the picture folder it said that there were only 21,476 Files now with a total of 1.96GB of used space.. so this ACDSee picture app just deleted over 6GB of my Photos..
i tried a system restore but it wouldnt give me back my photos.. and then ended up somehow loosing all my system restore poins after that..???
i have the recycle bin turned off so all files are deleted instead of being moved to the bin..
Is there any app that can get me back my deleted photos..???

Hi everybody,

Sorry, you're out of luck

Didn't the "incredimail software" have warnings before you deleted your emails? If it did NOT, uninstall that software, it's unsafe.

You do not state what email client you use, unless it IS "incredimail." If it is Outlook 2002 or 2003, download and use the Microsoft Outlook PST Backup Utility.

It will add Backup to Outlook's File menu.

The backup will run after closing Outlook (you cannot backup PSTs while in-use).

The backup interface allows you to set a backup filename (if you don't want default), and location (path). For path I highly suggest you not use defaults, put your PST backups in a separate location like My Documents, or (better) on another HD. WARNING - you must specify filenames (optional) and paths for each PST, you should have an Outlook.pst & Archive.pst if you do archive your emails.

The backup interface also allows you to schedule when to backup, and the dialog will open on Outlook exit, on schedule. At work I set every 3-days.

At home I do not use MS Office but since I image my D:\APPS05 drive (includes my email client) every month, I can recover from that.

does anyone know how to recover a deleted user profile? and i'm not talking about deleting a user name through "computer management".
fyi....system restore did not work.

Hi,

You might be more specific on how and where it got deleted. Like, did you send it to the recyle bin, delete it in an online area, or some document. That would help anyone to better assist you.

Hi all,

I wanted to check the history of a folder in windows explorer (not IE), I downloaded a index.dat viewer but it only shows a few days history I need it from last week. I only found out about index.dat from a google search I am no expert, it does show the history of the folder I am looking for but not far back enough, I do use Ccleaner to delete files, but how can I recover the old history wirh free software please!

Thanks

A:Recover deleted history

Chances are that you can't. But what exactly do you want to recover? Files, a list of files, or what?

Ccleaner removes many things that can be useful for recoveries. Backup files, though useless if unused, of course, are created for a reason. Ccleaner should be used sparingly, if at all, and never use the registry part.

Hi. i have deleted a programme from my recently bought Lenovo 3000 C200 laptop. It is the hibernate programme which puts computer into "hibernate" state. can anyone help me please? My OS is Vista Home Basic. Would this programme be Windows or Lenovo. and can it be recovered ?

A:Can I Recover Deleted Programme?

How and what did you delete? I don't know of a stand alone power management program. You can access your power options in the control panel, in XP anyways not positive with Vista. Whether Lenovo has one you'll have to read your owner's manual. Have you emptied the trash bin? If it's still in there, restore it back

Hello,

I accidentally deleted a folder that has many files in my portable drive. They are not in the recycle bin as I set it for immediately deletion. So I purchased a data recovery program online and it found the deleted files. When I restored and opened the files, they were corrupted. Is there a reliable program that can recover the files efficiently? The Internet has so many programs and I don't know which to pick.

Many thanks.

A:How do I recover deleted files?

Has anything been copied onto the drive since the deletion? If it has, the locations where the deleted files were may have been overwritten by new files. If this has happened, recovered files will be corrupt, and no recovery software will be able to recover them correctly.

If nothing has been transferred to the drive since the folder was deleted, then it's a disappointment that paid software fails to recover them. Well-regarded recovery programs include Recuva, PcInspector and GetDataBack (paid). Other posters may have other recommendations from their experience.

Hi,
Have you explored the contents of the Recycle bin?
If it's not there, I find Restoration works well, it's free and free of adware etc:

I hope this does the trick?
Richard.
