Touchpad 2-finger scroll stopped working on X1 Carbon (20A7) after latest Windows 10 update

Q: Touchpad 2-finger scroll stopped working on X1 Carbon (20A7) after latest Windows 10 update

Title says it all really. This stopped working after the last major Windows 10 update (the one that introduced the three-finger horizontal scroll for scrolling through active applications). All other gestures seem to work OK, only the 2-finger scroll gesture has stopped working. I have all the latest updates installed, and all the latest drivers.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, The two finger scroll function on the touchpad is not working. The driver is updated as well. Overall the touchpad seems unresponsive as well. It gets stuck and cursor stops moving. It is the only thing that I am not happy with regarding the spectre x360. Can you please help. Thanks

A:Two finger scroll down not working on touchpad

Hello @ukx360 ,Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP Spectre x360 Notebook and mouse freezing. Here is a document on how to troubleshoot the mouse and Touchpad sensitivities. If you will go to the section on Adjusting TouchPad, you will see a restore defaults button. If you select that it will restore the original settings.Hope this fixes things up.Thanks.

Hello,Today I updated my Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th Gen with the latest drivers recommended by Lenovo Vantage program, as well as the latest Windows 10 Pro updates. After conducting those updates, I can no longer sign in using the Fingerprint sensor. When I open the Device Manager to check the status of the Biometric Device driver, it shows the following message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"The sign in option using the fingerprint does not even show up in the Windows settings for Sign In. Things I have already tried:1) Update the driver through the Device Manager 2) Download and reinstall the fingerpring driver from the Lenovo drivers website3) Reset fingerprint settings in the BIOS and making sure it is enabled4) Change configuration in "gpedit.msc" -> computer configuration -> administrative templates -> windows components -> biometrics -> allow the use of biometrics and allow users to log on using biometrics set to enabled None of the 4 attempts above solved the problem. Can anyone please provide any solution for this case? It looks like a lot of people have been experiencing this issue and no one from Lenovo provided a clear and definitive solution. The latest drivers must have bugs and, in my opinion, Lenovo must stop distributing them until this issue is fixed. Thank you very much.Best.

I just loaded the new windows 10 operating system on my Pro Book 6440b and I am having a problem with the Synaptics Touchpad driver. Most of the functions work properly with the touch pad but there is one issue that I cannot resolve with the Window 7 driver for the touchpad. The finger scroll function will not work in any of the newly formatted Windows 10 OS windows. I wonder if their has been a patch made for this driver problem or if it is an ongoing issue. I know the mouse pad works fine all functions since I reloaded all of the drivers after a complete system restore in the windows 7 OS.?????

After a routine update to my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 15 type 20DQ-001, the scroll function on my touchpad is no longer working (no two finger scroll and no other fancy multitasking functions either). I visited other forums (a few years old) about this issue and they said to go through my control panel, go back a driver, and reinstall the driver. After restarting the computer this works, until I shut the computer down and turn it back on later or the next day to find the scroll function no longer works...again. I have been using this fix multiple times a day for over a week now. I also saw something online aboutclicking a button in the control panel screen for "mouse" that turns on scrolling; this does not exist on my PC's control panel. How do I fix the track pad permanently? Please help!

Dear community, I have this rather special issue that I would like to ask for your assistance with. The case: I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon 2nd generation (20A7) running Windows 10 x64. One day, the touchpad stopped working, but initially by making the cursor jump around the screen when I used the touchpad and later with no response at all. Currently, neither the touchpad or the trackpoint work and only when combining all of my effort and luck (emphasis on the latter) I can get a response. For instance, I recently had luck reinstalling the UltraNav driver which made the touchpad respond, though rather "patchy", but only until I restarted the computer. The background: I bought the laptop while living the United States but have since moved to Denmark where I cannot use what remains of my warranty. I tried calling the Lenovo callcenter and an employee suggested that I enabled the touchpad in the BIOS and reinstalled the driver, but when that did not work, he fell short on advice. It seems that those guys are primarily there to help old people create a password and what not. The twist: I am aware that one excellent possible solution to my issue is that I can do a clean install of Windows on my device. However, I currently have a limited use version of some very expensive software installed and I need that in my daily work and cannot get a new version right away, so doing that would set me back quite a lot.&nbs... Hello and welcome,

It seems that you're leaning toward a software rather than a hardware problem.  You might try booting a live Linux USB flash drive to verify that the hardware works.

It's typical for ThinkPads to have international warrantees.  Have you verified your specific coverage?   SUPPORT above, then International Services in the Warranty and Repair drop-down.

If your machine is eligible for local warranty service they will probably reinstall the OS as a diagnostic - and possible repair - effort.  If you can isolate to a hardware issue as suggested above you might avoid that step.

Try to check if Windows update has installed something today and roll back OS to earlier time (two days back if possible) using system restore tool.

I don?t know if this will help but you can try it. Several times I saw that synaptics driver update is offered by option windows updates.

Is there a way we can change the touchpad Reverse scrolling option (Scroll --> Two Finger Scrolling --> Switch Direction) on the X1 Carbon through an automated way. We see that after Windows 10 upgrade, the scroll option on the touchpad has been changed. So doing it manually it works but we want to automate it either through a registry change or some other method. Yes manual changes works perfectly.

Hey there,

i recently got a harddrive replacment for my Qosmio f60 laptop and windows had to be reloaded.
When my laptop was previously working i could two-finger scroll on pages and such,
Now i cant, and i cannot find a setting for it anywhere.

ive downloaded a driver called 'scrybe' which allows me to do this,
but i would much prefer not running an extra processor and just using the laptops default function.

Can anyone explain why my laptop previously let me do this and now cant? and how i could fix it?

thanks heaps!

Maybe the Synaptics touchpad driver is not installed?
The Synaptics driver provides additional touchpad features.
Therefore I recommend installing this driver.

The settings can be found in control panel -> mouse -> Advanced tab -> advanced settings

didn't work at all. Can you please either give me a step by step guide on fixing this or a link to a bit of software that fixes this?
And yes the touchpad is up to date, the system won't even let me click it.

Hi. I bought a brand new Thinkpad T470s with Win10pro preinstalled. I have installed all latest win10 updates and lenovo updates and also BIOS is updated. I have the following problems that are most likely caused by Touchpad and the fact that it is a Microsoft Precision Touchpad. - I had to set "Choose how many lines to scroll" to value 8 in Settings/Mouse to get adequate scrolling speed in Google Chrome and most of other apps that I use - 2-finger scrolling freezes and delays now and then in SimpleNote- there is no way to adjust 2-finger scrolling speed in File Explorer and MS Edge Explorer. "Choose how many lines to scroll each time" setting in "Settings" and "Control Panel/Mouse" has no effect on touchpad 2-finger scrolling speed. I dont really use Edge as I prefer Chrome but this slow scrolling in File Explorer is unacceptable. Even my old Thinkpad X201 is better.- 2-finger scrolling in Device Manager is too jumpy and slow to use comfortably- 2-finger scrolling in MS Word 2010 was also jumpy couple of times, but most of the time it works OK- I use Gmail in a separate window which I created from Chrome with "Add to desktop" option and "Open as window" checked. When Gmail is used from this separate window, 2-finger scrolling is jumpy and delayed, also very unacceptable.  I suspect that these problems must be somehow caused by that Touchpad is Microsoft Precision Touchpad. Hi!
I got my Precision M4800 and I'm really about it.
But! I dislike the touchpad for one reason : No option to enable one-finger scroll. I'm kinda "old school" with touchpad and I don't like using my the two-fingers scroll and all the "fancy " features and the touchpad software don't have this specific feature.I tried the old driver version (7.0), but it's not compatible with Windows 8.1.
I can see a lot of values in the regedit ( HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Alps and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Alps ) but I don't know which one it can be,
Do you know if a generic ALPS drivers exist? Do you have a solution for this issue?
Thanks!

A:Enable one-finger scroll on Precision M4800 (ALPS touchpad)

Run the DellTPad.exe file in C:\Program Files\DellTPad.  This will give you an older interface which includes the one-finger scroll.

This issue has been afecting me for some time, but as the warranty is coming closer to expire I decided to look into it. Since I upgraded to Windows 10 (at least that I noticed) my TrackPoint has stopped working. Googled some solutions (like checking the setup screeen) and nothing was effective. The Mouse Control Panel shows the TrackPoint options greyed: http://i.imgur.com/yudv9WE.jpg  Before I go through the annoyance of calling the Lenovo/IBM support, is there any known solution for this? Thanks.

Has anyone used an Inspiron 13 7000 touchpad two-finger scroll gesture and also compared it to a Surface Pro 3?
I've been using the Inspiron 13 for months but just reformatted Windows on a Surface Pro 3 last night and wow - the 2-finger scroll responsiveness is virtually instant on that device.  On the Inspiron it always seems to take a bit of time to get going.

On a Dell Latitude E5530 with the Alps touchpad, I find that the two-finger scroll gesture works very poorly in one direction. (I have the "reverse direction" option selected, and I can easily scroll webpages down, but up sometimes works okay, but often scrolls very very little at a time, or I have to press down quite hard on the touchpad to get it to scroll correctly).
I also notice that when I two-finger-tap to get the right-click menu, it often misses it, and I have to do it again, harder. But it doesn't seem that just "harder" is the issue, because two-finger scrolling webpages down always works well; it's just up that works poorly/ requires me to press much harder.
This is under Windows 10 Pro 64-bit; has happened under all Windows 10 versions (Anniversary, Creators Update, and Fall Creators Update), and has the Microsoft-signed, Alps-labelled, version 10.1207.101.103 date 6/23/2015 driver.
I have tried reducing the TouchGuard sensitivity; that didn't help. I've turned off all other gestures just to make sure that the touchpad wasn't misinterpreting my gestures - that also did not help.
Any suggestions?
thanks,-Jay

Hi everyone,

Windows 10 just launched a big update (16th April was the installation for me), I believe it enabled Cortana here in Australia, upon restarting I was getting annoying notifications I had previously disabled, and a bunch of smaller software updates were available.

Anyway, I noticed my Intel Rapid Store Technology icon was not the usual "green tick", instead it was a little blue circle, indicating it was not running. When trying to open the application I get an error asking me to restart or reinstall. I did both, but RST will not install, citing that my "platform is not supported" - this is using the latest drivers on the intel website: Download Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) RAID Driver

I've browsed countless forums, all with different suggestions, I've tried uninstalling the previous version, using 7zip instead of winRAR, using older versions of the intel RST drivers, restarted 20 times, manually starting the service in services.msc etc. nothing works.

I'm guessing this is some sort of version related issue but I am not tech savvy enough to resolve the issue so I'm hoping someone can help me out here... any suggestions are greatly appreciated, I've attached some system info and the install log below:

IntelRST.log

I'd be happy to provide any other information, thank you dearly

Hello, I am using an HP Pavilion dm4-3050us with Windows 8.1, and the touchpad scrolling is not working. I upgraded exactly two weeks ago on October 17th, and the scrolling has been working perfectly fine until today. Since I discovered the problem, I have done everything I could. I reinstalled the driver, I restarted the computer multiple times, I have played with the settings, but nothing is working. There was another thread with the same problem, except that all the solutions that worked for those people did not work for me. I have multi-finger gestures turned on, and I have vertical scrolling turned on as well. What is interesting is that other gestures work perfectly fine, except for the gestures that require more than one finger. If I swipe in form the left side, I can switch between Windows 8 apps, and if I swipe in from the right side, the charms bar comes up. But I cannot scroll with two fingers, I cannot switch between apps with 4 fingers, and I cannot right click by tapping the touchpad with 2 fingers. These are all things that worked literally yesterday. Is there a reason that the touchpad can only register gestures that use one finger, but not those that use more than one finger? (When I try scrolling with two fingers, the mouse does not move. This tells me that the computer knows that I am trying to scroll, but is not doing it. I know this because when I try to scroll with two fingers on a page that cannot be scrolled, the mouse just stays in place.)&n... Read more

Hi,
Go to Settings, Devices, select Mouse&Touchpad, scroll down to Additional Mouse Options, go to Elan tab, highlight the Elan smartpad and click Options, try switching to reverse scroll and other options to get the right settings which could work for you, I have attached my settings for comparing but you may have to try different options.

After the latest chromeos upgrade (installed today) my trackpad works for a short time (minutes) then stops.  No response and pointer disappears.  USB mouse works fine.  Have powerwashed twice and the issue persists for both my account and guest. It was working perfectly before this update. Is there a way to fix it or remove this update?

Dear Friends, Hope all is well.  I wrote "directly to HP Tech/Support and due to the warranty it defaults to here.A couple of matters. One I need a replacement Key and hinges for the *insert- Scroll key*The other issue(s) are that none of the finger sensitive swipe controls work to control speaker volumes or <<RW - Play >|| -FF >> and not last and not least the WiFi  indicator does not glow. I have always liked and used HP so I hope you can help me with these matters even though the computer is quite old and out of warranty. Sincerely, Raphael

So...out of the box computer. During the set up the two finger scroll was working, however, once all was finished it stopped (why?). Tried going onto the mouse and touchpad settings, nothing available. Then tried going onto the Additional Mouse Options. I get warned that "Control Panel Extension is Incompatible with Driver Version" (why?). After clicking only option "OK" it opens. After a second of use it then tells me " Windows Shell Common DII has stopped working" (why?). Solutions will be gratefully recieved.

Hi, I'm pretty useless when it comes to figuring things out with computer software, ect. But over the past 2 days, my touchpad has suddenly stopped working properly. The issue is that when I hold any key on the keyboard, I cannot move my mouse, nor can i use 2 fingers to move the mouse, or have any more than 1 finger on the touchpad, it just locks the cursor into place and i cannot move it. I have tried a few suggestions, such as turning off palm-tracking, and going into Regedit and setting the values of "disable when typing" to 0, and after restarting, the issue is still the same, I can't move my mouse whilst using the keyboard, or having more than 1 finger on the touchpad. I went back into regedit, the values were still at 0, I went into the mouse settings, and palmtracking was still turned off. I even tried installing a different driver, but once I installed it and restarted, the computer said there was an error and had to restart - this wasn't fixed until I reset my entire computer, which took hours.Though I am not sure if I went about installing the driver correctly, as I did not uninstall any previous driver. I just don't know what to do now to fix this, I've tried everything! And this is especially infuriating for me as I'm a gamer, and because of this I am unable to properly play any games!

A:IdeaPad 110 Touchpad still disabled when typing/two finger scroll also disabled?!

Forgot to mention: my touchpad's current driver is Elan 11.4.105.2  , if that makes any difference.

A:scroll bar stopped workin after windows 10 update

Hello @Cassey?,Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP G71-333NR Notebook and scroll functions not working correctly. Here is a document on how to troubleshoot the  Touchpad sensitivities. Your Notebook came with the Synaptics TouchPad driver. If you will go to the section on Adjusting TouchPad pointing sensitivities you should see restore default settings on the left side. Then it gives you different functions for your Touchpad that you can select.Hope this fixes your issue.Thanks.
