There is no option to uninstall many programs in Control Panel

Q: There is no option to uninstall many programs in Control Panel

I would like to uninstall a number of programs which I think may be running on start up - the problem is there is no uninstall option when I click on the program in the control panel there is no uninstall option in the program group. Some programs have this option - some dont.

The programs include Yahoo Messenger, McAfee Anti Virus, Norton Internet Security and a few more.

Preferred Solution: There is no option to uninstall many programs in Control Panel

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am wondering why some of my installed programs do not show up in control panel, uninstall programs, am also wondering if there is away to make the list of programs in unistall programs show up in alphabetical order.

Also if I cannot uninstall programs any other way does it create any potential problems if I just delete the folder(s) containing the program?

A:Control panel, uninstall programs

Depends. The program may not have been written for win7 or they may be written such that they dont enter the requisite info in the registry. Many such progs will have their own uininstallers accessible via the Start menu or the programfiles directory. Windows components can be found under Turn windows features on or off. See this also.

Programs and Features - Uninstall or Change a Program

If you need to uninstall manually, find the install log. Its usually located in the application folder and tells you what files where installed where and what registry keys were created. However, it may not be smooth going. E.g., there could be shared system files or the install may be very complicated. Where theres absolutely no go I guess you could just delete the folders and clean up afterwards with CCleaner.

In trying to uninstall SKYPE so I can download an upgrade, I find that there are only 1/3 of previously installed programs listed under Uninstall in Control Panel.
SKYPE is not one listed and has been installed on this computer for years.

A:Uninstall in Control Panel has missing programs

How can I completely uninstall and then reinstall Skype for Windows desktop?Alternatively, you can use a third-party utility like Revo Uninstaller Free or Portable and follow these instructions for using it. Revo provides a listing of all installed software by installation date and when removing a program, Revo does a more comprehensive job of searching for and removing related registry entries, files and folders. If a program is not listed in Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs) or you receive any error messages about missing files, look for an uninstall icon (shortcut) from within its program group. Click on Start > All Programs (or Program Files), look for the program folder by name and use the program's uninstaller. If it's not there, the next step would be to open Window's Explorer, manually navigate to the program's folder itself, look for an uninstaller file (i.e. uninstall.exe) and double-click on it to run.

I'm running windows xp home edition, up to date on critical updates.

grisoft free, free zone alarm, ewido free spyware, spyware blaster, etc etc and none of them show a infection.

computer is about 3 years old a compaq presario with 512k real memory.

It came pre installed from compaq with XP home so I do not have a windows xp install diskette altho I think I did make the cd restore copies when I got the computer new.

My problem is when I go to control panel, remove software option, the screen displays Please wait while the list is being populated and it just runs and runs. I do a ctrl alt delete and bring up task manager and it shows 100 percent CPU utilization with rundll32.exe showing 99 percent cpu utilization.

computer seems to be runing ok, except for this.

my question is does anyone know what is causing this? If I delete rundll32.exe, can I restore it from somewhere as I do not have the XP install disk due to the factory XP install.

A bit frustrated here......I purchased a new version of Norton 360 to install into my laptop. When trying to install, the computer tells me I already have another variant of 360 installed, and I need to uninstall it before proceeding. So........into the control panel I go, click on Norton, click uninstall, and then, to my surprise, I get an error message: "the specified module could not be found". I search the entire computer for any symantec or Norton files, all which have been deleted, go back to the control panel, but there it still is, taunting me. I decided to try to install the new version, and it is still telling me to uninstall the old one. BUT IT"S NOT THERE!!! How do I remove this from the control panel? Do I need to do something with the registry files? HELLLLLPP!!

Hi Reece12sky,

When you're in the Programs and Features window, and you can see all the installed programs, look at the top right of the list. You should see a little white question mark in a blue circle. to the left of that is a the icon listing drop down menu. Click on the down arrow and select "Details" from the list.

This should do it for you. If not, please let me know.

Hi guys

I'm not too sure when this problem actuall started - maybe a few months ago, but it's starting to become a real issue.

Whenever I try to uninstall a program through control panel>programs>uninstall a program my system reboots the moment I click on "uninstall a program".

I have searched around the net a bit and haven't found the exact problem, but have worked through a couple of soloutions to similar problems with no luck.

I have already tried to turn off "automatically restart" on system failure through system properties, only to find it was already set to "write an event to the system log".

I have not made any changes to the system (that I know off) while trying to fix this problem.

The reason this is becoming an issue is that I'm having major troubles with the latest version (7.0 and above) of roboform password manager clashing with internet explorer. Whether the 2 issues are linked is well beyound my knowledge level

Described here. I have a problem with finishing work on "unknown device". For a moment, after installing from the DELL (www.dell.com/.../advanced) driver "ST Microelectronics Free Fall Sensor Driver ", file DRVR_WIN_R309372.EXE Device Manager has stopped showing that there is an" unknown device "in the configuration. After updating to "ST Microelectronics Free Fall Sensor Driver", the Chipset_Driver_RCHTX_WN_2.00.10.34_A11.EXE file, from the same DELL page, again appeared in the configuration unknown device.
I decided to remove the ST Microelectronics Free Fall Sensor Driver from the system via the Control Panel to install only DRVR_WIN_R309372.EXE. Unfortunately, the installation can not be resumed, the message "Found incompatible installation of, Version. Please uninstall it via Control Panel Add / Remove Programs before installing this version of Accelerometer". The problem is that Control Panel no longer shows this application. Suspecting that there were some traces left after the previous installation, I tried to remove them from the File Manager and also edited the registry. In the registry I searched for: "R309372", "RCHTX", "Microelectronics", "AccelerometerP11", "Freefall". I deleted the entries containing the above characters. I would be grateful for directional guidance on how to proceed further. I am using Windows 10 64 bit Dell Precision M4500.

2. Have not been able to download Adobe Flash Player. Each time I click "Download" nothing happens. Could the Norton security program be part of this problem?

Right click on the attachment that won't open and 'save as', save to your desktop. Right click the file and go to 'open with' and choose which program you would like to open the files as a defualt. Make sure the 'Always use the selected appication for files of this type' checkbox is checked and open. Now when you open the attachment in outlook, it should load in the application you selected.
For Flash, go to www.adobe.com and search for standalone flash install. You should find the download page and be able to download a setup file to run locally which shouldn't be affected by norton or any other programs,

Quick question, i am using a ATI radeon 700064mb pci and i was wondering what is the difference between, Display:

Plug and play = (name of card)

Default plug and play = (name of card)

What happens when i put it on default, more graphics, sound better, faster load times , what?

A:Question about an option in my control panel

Hi U2K,
My guess is probably nothing. If the default means regarding a monitor that doesn't return a plug and play code to the os, it only allows the most common refresh rates at common resolutions.
If the card identifies the monitor properly, it should disable any resolutions or refresh rates that that specific mon can't or shouldn't run.

Hello All,

I have been trying to solve a Zone Alarm problem, but the fix seems to have turned into a Windows problem. I hope someone can help me.

I've used ZoneAlarm Security Suite for several years now, but during the past year I have been unable to install upgrades. Usually the process gets stuck during the uninstall of the old version. SO this time I tried to manually uninstall first. It seemed to work (via Add/Remove Programs) and then I tried installing the new version, but it got stuck while copying files over.

On the Zonealarm Forum I got some help from someone who gave me some instructions to follow to "completely" uninstall all zonealarm (zonelabs) files. Following these instructions (which I'll post below) appeared to have removed Zonealarm, but I still could not install the new version - it got stuck at the exact same point while copying files over.

So now I don't have the old version and can't install the new version.
Now to the Windows problem. (Thanks for your patience)

Everything else on my PC seems to be working fine. Email, internet, other programs...but then I went to use Photoshop Elements and it started up by showing me the user license and asking for acceptance (which it hasn't done since I installed it over a year ago). I accepted it and then got the following message:Your Adobe Photoshop Elements username, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid. The application can not continue and must close. So I figured this m... Read more

A:Missing Add/Remove option in Control Panel

Hello and welcome to TSF

Click Start, Run and type REGEDIT. This starts the Registry Editor. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \Microsoft\Windows \CurrentVersion\Uninstall\<Program Name>
( <Program Name> here is Adobe Photoshop Elements)
In the right-pane, do the following:

Double-click NoRemove (REG_DWORD) and set it to 0
Double-click NoModify (REG_DWORD) and set it to 0

If NoRemove is set to 1, the Remove button will be unavailable
If NoModify is set to 1, the Change button will be unavailable

This should help with Adobe Photoshop Elements.

Now, for ZA.

Try using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. As long as you installed the application using the Windows Installer, this utility will remove all the folders, files, registry keys, and entries from your system and allow you to start over with a clean slate.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Locate and run msicuu2.exe to install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.
Locate and launch the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility on the Start menu.
From the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility window, locate the application in the list and click the Remove button.
Once the application has been removed, click the Exit button to close the utility.

Hi, A few days ago, I made a small purchase.
I bought 2x ZOTAC nVidia GTS 450's and a SLi Bridge connector.

I've read around that the SLi enable option should be available under the 3D section, with the PhysX configuration, but it's just simply NOT there.

Even GPU-Z says that SLi is disabled!

The video cards are installed, I disabled my onboard video from my Motherboard Bios.
But still, it does not let me SLi those bad boys to squeeze max performance out of my pc.

What should I do?

Video Card:
2x http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500187&cm_re=ZOTAC_GTS_450-_-14-500-187-_-Product

SLi Bridge connector:

A:Dual GTS 450's in SLi. Option does NOT appear in nVidia Control Panel.

For starters you cannot run SLI on an AMD chipset, you need a motherboard with a Nvidia chipset. Short of replacing your motherboard or running a single card, there isn't much you can do other than returning the cards and going with a single card or getting two AMD cards to run in Crossfire if you want dual cards.

Personally I would return them and go with a single card. For what you paid for those two (or at least the price on Newegg at the moment) you could have got a GTX 470 or HD 6950, either of which performs about the same (or a bit faster in some cases) as 2 GTS 450's in SLI.

I have XP Home SP3 generally running quite nicely but the other day I noticed when I opened Control panel that the Task Pane no longer gives the option of viewing it in either Classic view or category view.

I have it set for classic view as this is my preference. So there is no problem from my angle. It's just not possible to switch back to category view if I ever choose to in the future.

Kelly's Korner gives a tweak to set the view either way but this does not reinstate the option on the task pane.

Just in case someone is going to suggest it, No I can't do a system restore because it is turned off.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Hi, I came across this issue while trying to solve another, the issue of the annoying on-screen caps lock indicator (solved using this method). Many of the solutions I found involved going to control panel-->Display and choosing "Advanced settings" or right click on desktop-->screen resolution-->advanced settings.  My computer does not have a "Display option" in the control panel:It also does not have an "Advanced settings" or similar option in the display settings in the settings menu/through right clicking on the desktop and selecting screen resolution. Why is it seemingly impossible for me to edit anything to do with the display beyond a very basic level? Thanks.

In the "Uninstall or change" programs menu, I cannot view certain programs.

There was a point approximately less than a year ago when I could not view any programs, but, after some valiant effort, I was unable to restore the programs.

Now, all the programs I have downloaded since do appear, but none of the others from the past.

I have tried the following:

Restarting the computer.
Using a different user.
Windows Restore.
sfc scan, there were no problems.
Checking for wmiprvse.exe.
Using an uninstaller.

And none of them have come up with the hundred or so programs that I can access, but do not appear on the menu.

Catalyst 5.11 drivers were the last to be bundled with the old control panel. At least with 5.11, there was an option between the old control panel and the new CATALYST .net control panel. We are up to version 5.12 and 5.13 and you are now forced to use the new .net Control Panel, the old control is now not an option anymore. By signing this petition you are telling ATi you might be boycotting future purchases of ATi hardware.

If it's possible, spread the word.

To: ATi

It's time to boycott purchases of ATi products until the old control panel is brought back. We want the option of the old control panel back.

I am an outraged customer of a Sapphire ATI Radeon 9500 Pro. The last set of drivers to support the old (good) control panel has disappeared in Catalyst drivers 5.12 and 5.13 and you are forced to use the CATALYST .net Control Panel. Bring back the old control panel

The new Catalyst Control Center, is

1. Slow

2. Memory hogging

I have Windows 7 Prof x64.

My question is, when displaing all software installed and choosing more columns of information to display, they don't stay. For example, choosing Location column. Getting out of the installed programs list and then returning to it, the Location column is gone.

Is there some what to get the columns to be persistent?

Thanks in advance.

A:Question about Windows 7 Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features

The Programs and Features listing is shown to you by the Explorer app. Each time that you open/close the Windows (file) Explorer while viewing a folder (or a special view/list like the Programs and Features listing), Explorer tries to write info to the registry about how Explorer was showing you that folder. Windows (file) Explorer tries to write this "how to display a folder" info at other times besides just closing an Explorer window, but I'll not go into all of that.

Microsoft has not solved the problem that happens when these places in the registry get too big. When this happens, you may see the problem that you are experiencing - that of no longer being able to store the layout/view/column width/column selection/... info in the registry.

Below is video that I made showing registry keys being made. (I'm not suggesting that you mess with the registry.) Notice that new keys are made when visiting the folder named Temp. Deleting this Temp folder does not remove those registry keys. If you close Windows (file) Explorer while viewing a compressed folder (a ZIP file), the Explorer app tries to make keys so that it can remember how it last showed you that folder. If you delete or move that ZIP folder to another location, the original registry keys remain. So you can see how this area of the registry can fill up.

edit: I had to make this video again. I hope that I covered all of the original points.

One solution is to remove all of the entries/keys in the areas of ... Read more

I have run into a strange problem. I have searched and found other people with the same issue but no solution. Almost all of the programs in the programs and features list in the control panel are gone. the programs are still there in the start menu and can be opened. But I can not open pdf files on my desktop anymore, I would uninstall adobe and reinstall it but it isn't in the list to remove it. Thanks for the help.

I need help!
Two days ago i got a small red shield with a cross on it next to the time, saying that the automatic updates is turned off. i try to turn it on through system in control panel(which i had back then) by choosing the recommended one-this was already selected when i got there. i turn it off and on and applied the changes, but the shield is still there!

Today I got the words VIRUS ALERT! next to the time, and my c:\ drive was gone from my computer, and some programs disappeared from my desktop.
I also got a whole bunch of pop ups saying that there were attempts of hijack on my computer through spyware.
I don't have the exact message because it has stopped after i went through 3 failed attempts of system recovery through my checkpoints, and in the 4th one i rebooted through safe mode. a black screen just came up, no programs on the desktop.

i rebooted again through normal mode and NOW there is a new theme, desktop background, but my computer was gone from the desktop, task manager was disabled through restricted access, my folders are gone from dsktp, all programs on start, control panel and run. But the VIRUS ALERT! & pop ups are gone.

I got the Remove Restricted Tools program from here: http://www.ghiath.com/?p=30
this enables me to access task manager.

I am now running a full scan using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (still running...system really slow) I really don't want to resort to a full system restore...but i really want to get this fixe... Read more

A:Solved: HELP ME: Desktop programs, My computer, control panel, all programs gone!

after the mbam full system scan i removed all the threats found. i rebooted normally.

NOW i am back though to where i was before the system restore through recovery checkpoints (same theme & background). I have the VIRUS ALERT! on the taskbar, but my computer and my folders are back on the deskstop. The c:\ drive is still missing in my computer, and All programs is also missing from the start menu. The red sheild (mentioned above) has gone too!

i did another scan, this time a quick one using mbam, and it found some more threats. I will delete this like before. but i still have the feeling that it will not fix the problem
