G500 - Keyboard only types vowels with accents

Q: G500 - Keyboard only types vowels with accents

I have a Lenovo G500 laptop and I have problem with my keyboard. Out of nowhere my keyboard does not type, the only thingies can type are vowels with accents. I checked to see if the Ctrl and both alt button are stuck but they aren't. I took the keys off to clean underneath just to be sure. I also plugged in a USB keyboard but that also does not type anything other than the accented vowels. Although some other buttons do work on the USB keyboard that don't on my laptop such as the arrows and the enter button on the far right. I tried twice doing a system restore but it failed to restore (currently trying a third time). Is there any solution to this? I'm currently unable to login and right now my laptop is completely useless.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi urzu7, If you are still able to go inside Windows. Method 1:Press the Windows key + C to open your Charms..Select the Settings charm, and then click Change PC settings..Click Time and language, then select Region and language.On the right, select your language and the click Options.Click Add a keyboard and then select the keyboard you want from the list. This will add your selection to the Keyboards list. You can remove a keyboard by clicking on it then click RemoveAdd the keyboard with the corresponds to your country, then remove the wrong one.Method 2:On your desktop you will see your current language in the lower right corner beside the clock. Click on your current language and choose a keyboard layout, then remove the wrong one. If you are no longer able to go inside Windows. From your on-screen keyboard, tap or click on the small keyboard icon in the lower right corner, then select a keyboard layout. Hope this helps.

I tried to run the recovery disk for Windoes XP and I couldn't choose what to do because I can't type 1&2. Now when I reboot, it tries to boot off the disk and says "media failure: check cable". Hi,
I recently started having keyboard problems and I'm not sure what the cause is. I know I installed the windows media center stuff to connect with my 360 and a recent vista patch too.

So here's my problem, each time I type ' it appears twice ''
same for " "" and ^ ^^ also ` `` and ~ ~~

it doesn't double . , ! ?

My keyboard as been set up as English (Canada) with the layout US international for ages, that way i can do ? and the other letters with accent without any problem.

Last week i decided to switch it to French (Canada) with the same layout and it seemed to have fixed the problem, but now it's back.

Haven't been able to find anything similar on google :(

Thanks for your help

I got a new computer last week and from the beginning thought it was set up for US qwerty but seems to have been set up with dvorak.

I went into change keyboards and languages and changed and thought for whole computer (fixed at first for admin, but didn't work for passwords and general - but finally got them fixed with copy current settings) and then after 6 days in the middle of emailing someone from a general account it switched again and passwords, etc. - but said it was US and couldn't access other accounts and had to make all new accounts.

Any way of preventing this again and making sure it stays US? I don't know the keyboard for dvorak and this time it didn't even say it but looked like the same gibberish.

Thank you.

Often editors keep track of the overstrike/insert mode that was in effect when you edit a particular file. When you change it afterwards in a different program, the editor may set it back how it was last time you used the editor or even edited the current file. Usually there';s a different cursor depending on which mode is set. Are you getting overstrike when the insert cursor is showing? That would be strange for sure. I don't remember seeing anything like that. At least not for some time.

What editor or program are you using when you get this?

Let me start by saying I LOVE THIS SITE. Most times I can do a search and find what I'm looking for.

This time it's not so easy.

I having a problem with my destop computer and it runs Windows XP.
Today, I started typing an email and each keystroke gets me Double Letters. Like when I type a.....I get aa. When I hit the backstroke key, both letters are erased.

I rebooted and this is what happened.

1st Floppy Disk Failure (80)

I hit F1 to proceed. Next

Unknown Flash Type
Boot From CD

**I hit enter and nothing happens. Puter sits for a minute.

Boot from CD

So, I start clicking my mouse.

Another minute goes by and finally everything starts to load.

I get to my login menu and type in my password -- its a simple "aa" so I only have to type the a.

I start up my email program and start an email and still "ddoouubblle lleetteerrs".

Everything else works fine.

So, I decide to disconnect my keyboard. I notice my keyboard cable has a big kink in the middle. I'm thinking this is probably the keyboard problem. ts 3 AM so I can't go get a new keyboard. On another note -- the spare keyboard that I've been keeping for 5 years in a box in the back of my closet isn't there. Funny how that happens.

So, tomorrow I'm going to get a new keyboard when a store opens.

However--- what about the other problems -- Floppy Disk Fail and the Boot from CD (delay) error.

I check back in after I replace my keyboar... Read more

I would wait until I installed the new keyboard to see if the Floppy problem re-appears. While I don't think the two problems are connected, the Floppy error message might just be an anomaly.

Here are my attempted fixes-

1. NUM lock is off
2. HKEY_USERS/Default/Control panel/Keyboard has proper values
3. Updated drivers
4. Deleted/reinstalled drivers
5. Completly reinstalled OS (xp Pro) with start up disks

Device type: Keyboards
Manufacturer: (Standard Keyboards)
Location: Plugged into Keyboard

If I go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/Accessibility/On-Screen
Keyboard, the on-screen keyboard types properly

The physical keyboard types the same whether in DOS or windows

I don't have an external keyboard, so I haven't tried that yet.

I believe the "Japanese" refers to manufacturer and not Language
because, I belive I have seen that keyboard for sale in systems that
are targeting english consumers.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thanks much,

Such as and E with an accent on it when I press shift and question mark.

Basically any symbols don't work. I try typing the @ sign and the number 3 will appear. I tried everything from function, alt, ctrl, shift and windows key + differnt combinations and nothing seems to work. The only way to make this stop is somehow to wait it out, or restart laptop.

Hi, I have quite an annoying problem with my keyboard AND my mouse, Sidewinder x6, x8. Basically, I first noticed it was happening while playing a game. The character started randomly shooting and moving on their own. You couldn't shoot with the keyboard nor move with the mouse so that's how I figured both are the problem. It has started to get worse now, and happens not just in the game. If I right click something the keyboard presses the delete button on its own and I get a confirm delete window although I did nothing. Also, I have noticed windows close on their own and drop down boxes change selections also on their own.

Now I have found in text windows for instance when I rename an icon, the name is always replaced with the letters "d" and about 2 seconds later "r". Then I can type and those letters get retyped again in about 10 seconds.

I figured it had to be a driver problem with the not so enjoyable intellitype and intellipoint software so I have uninstalled them both and I am just testing to see if the problem is still present. But this also removes my Macros which I use, so this isn't a solution.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm trying a method to remove all the vowels from a string.I tried this code but it working the the case which i don't have two consecutive vowels:
code:

StringBuffer newBuffer1 = new StringBuffer(str2);
StringBuffer newBuffer2 = new StringBuffer(vowels);
for(int counter1 = 0; counter1 < newBuffer1.length(); counter1++){
for (int counter2 = 0; counter2 < newBuffer2.length(); counter2++){
if (newBuffer1.charAt(counter1) == newBuffer2.charAt(counter2)){
newBuffer1.deleteCharAt(counter1);
break;

}
}
}
return newBuffer1.toString();
}Click to expand...

For example if my method take a string str2= "The End of the World" it will return me "Th nd f th Wrld" , but if my method take a string str2="george" it will return me "gorg" without removing the "o".

A:removing vowels in a string

Welcome to TSG!

When you delete a character, the folowing characters shift to the left. When you remove the first e in george, the o becomes the 2nd character. You've already checked the 2nd character (e) and removed it, so the o gets skipped. You need to adjust the counter to take this into account.

I don't know why the last e isn't being removed; is it actually returning gorge or just gorg?

Yesterday I started having a severe issue with my Asus X550L laptop keyboard. They keyboard is almost unresponsive and types randomly by itself (spamming random numbers, letters, and symbols).
The steps I have taken to try and resolve the problem are as follows:
1. Checked for any stuck keys
2. Rebooted my laptop
3. Ran a full system scan for any malware
4. Checked for driver updates
5. Performed a system restore - this worked initially for about ten minutes but after shutting down my laptop and going to bed, the problem persisted in the morning. I tried an earlier recovery afterward but it didn't fix the issue either.
6. Checked for any hardware changes in device manager

As far as I know there has not been any physical damage or liquid spills onto the keyboard, and a usb keyboard does work when plugged in, however it is sometimes overridden by the laptop's keyboard issues. I would really appreciate some help as I don't have a lot of money right now and the laptop is just out of warranty (I've had it for just over a year).

I went to go make a document in word, but I noticed it would only type in a box that popped up in the upper left corner of my screen and not in the actual word document. I found this very strange because it didn't do that on my other hard drive. Once I finished typing a word out and pressed enter it showed up in word, but when I try to type the next word that box disappears and I can longer see what I'm typing. However, I am still typing because I will type and a word, press enter, and then the word shows up word again, but I can't visually see what I am typing UNLESS I start a new line by pressing Enter. I've looked all over google and I have found nothing on this. Please help!! The E key types e3 the R key types rf etc. I bought another keyboard and still have the same problem. Nothing has ever been spilled on the laptop, I have ran virus and adware programs and nothing shows up.I do not have a usb keyboard to try,
