I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone, I have an HP Envy j100t which I purchased in 2014. ever since yesterday it's been starting but the screen remains pitch black, no display at all. It won't get to start up page, just remains a blank dark screen even though the power light is on and there's no battery issue because it was on charge all night and the AC adopter is still in.   I keep on having to get to get to the BIOS recovery screen, letting that update, and then it proceeds to restart. However when it restarts, it never gets to start up and there is the same dark screen- no display.  I have to always update BIOS, take out the battery and AC adapter, put them back in, and then it will start. Or sometimes even that whole process might not restart it.  Please help!

Ad-Hoc requires that you restart the session each time.

Connectify pro has an auto start option that does this but it's a paid version, connectify lite is free but I'm not sure if has auto start.

I have a bit of a strange issue with my computer. Forgive me if I'm a little too descriptive, but I'm not sure which details are relevant and which are not for such a problem. First, the specs:

Model: eMachines T2984
Operating System: Windows XP Service Pack 2
Processor: Intel Celeron D Processor 340, 2.93 GHZ, 256K L2 Cache, 533 MHZ FSB
Power Supply Unit: Bestec Model: ATX-250-12E REV: P7
Motherboard: I can't tell, but it appears to be an Intel motherboard by the number of Intel labels on it
RAM: 512 MB DDR SD originally, added 1 GB a couple of months ago
Let me know if you need anything else...

Yesterday, I got home from shopping around 1PM, and I tried to start the computer. I pushed the power button, and nothing happened. I checked all of the cords, and they were all plugged in. Not knowing what else to do, I opened up the case to see if there was something obviously wrong. The only thing that I noticed (other than a bunch of dust) was that the power supply unit was still hot. I shut the computer down about 5 hours earlier after about 20 minutes of use, so it seemed strange that the power supply was still hot. I unplugged the computer just in case there was some sort of fire hazard.

At this point, I called a friend who suggested that the problem might be with the motherboard or the power supply unit.

A few hours later, I plugged it back in to try to get it to work. As soon as I plugged it in, the entire unit suddenly started "running" by itsel... Read more

A:Computer Doesn't Turn on, Fans and Some Lights Turn on Automatically

I would suspect that the Power Supply Unit (PSU) is going south. If you have a spare one laying around, install it and see if the problem goes away.
You can buy a new, better PSU from Newegg for about $40.00. I have used a Thermaltake 430 watt in one of my machines for some time now and it works well.
You will have to check the size of your PSU to be sure a new one will fit into the eMachine.
Here's the page with that PSU on it. It's the last one on the list.

I can't turn my computer on. The fans and lights turn on for a second and then turn off. a few seconds later they'll turn back on and then turn back off. I've had this computer for 4+ months now, i built it myself. it recently started doing this but i'd just turn off the PSU (Power Supply Unit) and turn it back on and it woould fix it. now it doesnt fix it anymore. i've re-slotted the RAM (Random Access Memory) and pushed it in firmly, but that hasn't done anything. i've tried different power outlets and pushed everything into the MOBO (Motherboard), i havent messed around with CPU (Processor) because that's just a pain in the a**... i was wondering if there was anything else i could do before having to take it into a local repair shop, lol.

as for my computer specs

CPU (Processor): Fx-6300 AMD
GPU: R9-270x AMD
RAM (Random Access Memory): 8GB Ballistix sport
MOBO (Motherboard): ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0
PSU (Power Supply Unit): Corsair X500 w 80+
Case: Rosewill GALAXY

thanks

A:Fans turn on, lights blink and then turn off/on repeatedly.

First, I would unplug everything that isn't necessary. Everything external except for the keyboard and monitor. Internally, just leave the CPU, RAM and video card installed. See if it turns on. If not, you might try and test the power button. Disconnect the power button from the mobo. If the pin headers allow for it, use the reset button as the power button. If not, you can use a flat head screwdriver to power on the computer (cross the two pins for the power button with the blade of the screwdriver). If you do this, just be very careful. Touch only the power button pins and nothing else! You could easily damage components by touching the screwdriver to the wrong thing.

Some motherboards have a power button right on the board that you can press to power on the computer. I looked at a pic of your board and didn't notice one.

If that doesn't do it, plug the power button back in. You might try and play around with the RAM. I don't know if you have 2 or 4 sticks of RAM, but try and boot the computer with only one stick of RAM at a time. If there's a bad stick, you'll find it through this process of elimination.

If none of the above works, then it might be a bad PSU.

So I have already tried the solutions such as boot up the pc and press shift and such to get a menu and then download somthing on a usb and get into an administrator account. The Administration account I can at least log onto as it's not password protected but I still can't turn on Wi-Fi which basically defeats my whole purpose of using the computer as I use it for gaming. So regarding me not being able to log into my actual account, I've tried resetting my password multiple times without success. I think it's due to the fact that I am not able to connect to any Wi-Fi spots (which I assume is because of safe mode which I can't turn off for some reason) And that brings me to my next point, of I can't connect to Wi-Fi die to safe mode. I have tried to turn off safe mode in the settings but when I press the button for it to turn off it slides back over to the on side. Please let me know if you have any other solutions that I have not tried yet, Thanks !

Everything seemed to be normal so I started slowly installing the programs I had before. Now a few days after, I find that my wireless device is Off and Flight Mode is On. Can anybody tell me how to fix this please ? I really don't know how it happened. Can it be that my laptop is still infected ?

All the fans are working even the fan on the power supply, the motherboards lights are on. My graphic card in on the motherboard. I think it might be my power supply because when I first put it together I didn't plug in the smaller power connection to the motherboard and the same thing is happening, black screen. It's like my computer isn't giving my monitor any feed. I will have more info when I get home. I can't get in to bios or safe mode.

Hello Folks,

I'm not sure if my issue is with hardware (possibly MB?) or graphics card, so please forgive me if I've posted in the wrong section. The first problem I was having was random blue screens of death that displayed graphic card driver issues. I was able to remedy that by updating my graphic drivers and have not had an issue since.

However, ever since then I have been running into another hardware or graphics-related issue that is random and completely stumping me. What is happening is, I will be on my computer, leave and turn my monitor off, and (randomly) when I come back to use my computer again, when I turn on the monitor there is no signal and a black screen (e.g. when I turn my monitor on my desktop will pop up and the light on my monitor will turn blue, when it doesn't turn on there will be a black screen and the light on the monitor stays yellow as if it is idle). I have tried swapping out the monitor to see if that was the issue and the same problem persists, so it does not appear to be my monitor or VGA cables.

The only way I can temporarily fix this issue is to reboot/restart my computer and viola! The monitor works again and I can see everything. This issue is very random. Sometimes I can go weeks without an incident, other times this is happening a couple times a week. I honestly don't know if it's my motherboard or video card or what. My PC isn't overheating, I'm not overclocking, and all of my drivers are updated.

I'm not sure what... Read more

Running Windows Vista Ultimate.

Display turns off after about fifteen minutes regardless of whether I am actively using the computer or not. The only way to turn the display back on is to close and then open the lid. This disconnets me from AOL, so I have to sign back on again, and if I was emailing, I might lose my current email.

Under Power Options, I have 'Turn off the display' set to Never for both On Battery and Plugged in. Under 'Put the computer to sleep' I have both On battery and Plugged in set to never. Nonetheless, the display still shuts off while I am working.

What do I need to do to prevent the display from turning off at odd intervals?

Good day!

My cousin asked me to troubleshoot the problem of his desktop. He was telling me that it is not turning on. I was caught by surprise when i turned on the PC when suddenly I heard some kind of explosion. It sounds like a blown capacitor or something to that effect. I immediately unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. I checked all the capacitors and looking for any damage and fortunately it's all ok. I smell the PSU to check if there's any short circuit occured and there was no foul odor or something. I removed the PSU from the casing for and opened it for inspection. I found out that the fuse exploded and broke into 2 pieces. I don't bother to repair it but instead I bought a new 700 watts PSU.

After replacing the PSU I turned on the PC but i found out that the CPU fan will spin for half a second and turn off. Led green light is on but no post or beep sound. I did some troubleshooting and these are as follows:

1. I removed the motherboard from the casing and put it on top of the table with cardboard underneath.
2. Clean the RAM stick and tried on other slot.
3. Clean CPU heatsink and fan since it was clogged by dirt and replace thermal paste.
4. Replaced the CMOS battery and move jumper pin 1-2 to 2-3 for about 2 minutes.
5. I turn on the PC without the video card, hardisk and keyboard.

SPECS:
Motherboard: asus h81m-c
CPU: Intel core I7
RAM: 8gb

If I unset "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" on the Power Management tab of my USB Root Hub properties, then when I attempt to restart my computer from the Start Menu, Windows shuts down but the computer itself keeps running,
i.e. the power light stays lit and the fan continues to run. In order to actually shutdown, I have to press the power button for a few seconds. Upon reboot, there is no indication of a failed shutdown from Windows. However, I am able to shutdown from the Start
Menu without problem.
Is this really the intent of not allowing the computer to turn off a device connected to a USB port, i.e. you can shutdown but you can't restart? Seems a bit arbitrary to me.

Within this network there are only two computers, the one I use (as client) in my house and the other one is the host computer as I mentioned earlier.

How do I know that the host computer is being turned on or off?

The purpose is to know so that I can use all the bandwidth from the modem when the host computer is not turn on. Because there are no restrictions on bandwidth from the host computer, and I just wanted to use all the available bandwidth only when the host computer is not turned on.

Both computers use Windows 7.

had this problem even before the change.) Have turned off and back on by GPO and still have issue.  We do not want to turn back the clock and use SSL (nor would our auditors permit it). Any suggestions?

First of all, I am not sure if I am posting this in the right section. If not, please guide me to the correct section.
I have a Dell Inspiron 17r SE Laptop and my problem is that every single time, I have to turn my Laptop ON twice in order for it to boot up successfully. The first time I turn it on, Dell logo appears for a second and then, black screen shows up. Then, I have to turn my laptop off and start it back again. Second time, it boots up without any problem. I am fed up of turning it on twice everytime, and also concerned that it will affect health of my Laptop . How can I fix this Issue, please help.
I don't have a Recovery CD or Windows 8 CD. Windows 8 was pre-installed on my Laptop.

A:Laptop screen goes black on startup, have to turn laptop ON twice for it to boot up s

If it's still under warranty, call Dell. The unit or parts might be covered for replacement.

My laptop won't turn on. I tried the hard reset & even took the battery out but it still won't turn on. The light when you put the charging in comes on indicating that it is being charged but it won't come on. Also the wifi light comes on for a few seconds then turn back off. it also makes a sound as if it is coming on but then the sounds goes away.

It looks like you are not able to Power ON the Notebook and wanting to fix the issue Please perform below shown steps to find out if this is a Software or Hardware Issue:1. Remove all Peripherals and Cables, Disconnect them and try to Power ON the Unit 2. Check for LED Light Status and ensure Power Button spring action is normal 3. Swap with a known good Power Cord and Power Adapter 4. Incase no Adapter is available, Check if the Power Adapter is slightly warmNote: This will give us a hint that the Power Adapter might be fine 5. Do you know if the Notebook was in Battery or Power Adapter Mode when you used it for the last timeNote: Ensure there is no liquid spillage or Power Outage 6. Check if the AC Adapter Port is loose/broken Note: If the Notebook doesn't Power ON even with a known good Power Adapter this confirms the Hardware fault with System Board or the DC Power Circuit  Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on left to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,K N R K

Well, I have a Dell Studio 1555 laptop and bought it 2 years ago.
It has a Intel Dual Core 2.1 ghz, 4 gb ram, 500 gb hard drive, windows 7 home edition (upgraded after receiving CD), etc.
My motherboard model is D177M.
My situation is that I am studying abroad currently in France and I went away for a weekend trip to Paris. I came back from my trip to my room at Metz, France and tried to turn on my laptop (which was plugged in the whole time) and it wont turn on.
A quick flash of light (approximately less than a second) appears on the screen but than nothing happens after.
Any help? Thank you

Hi acedrake,
Thanks for posting.
Apologies that your computer is not working as expected.
Since you haven't included your computer's model number or operating system, I can only give a general answer to your question.
From what you're describing, it sounds like the battery may have reached it's end of life.  Have you tried it with a different battery?  If that's not the issue, then the charger may be bad, have you tried a known working charger?  If the  charger and battery are good, then the charging circuit on the motherboard may be at fault.  If that's the case, then the motherboard would have to be replaced.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1200 with Service pack 3. Me and my sister both have one. I had to reinstall XP Home Edition on her laptop after it crashed a few weeks ago. After I finally got it up and running the way she wanted it a few week later, she brought it to me freaking out, because it wouldn't turn on! I just laughed it off, and told her I would look at it. Now I have a bigger problem, it seriouslly wont turn on. Then when I tried to turn my laptop on, same modle, it done the same thing! Hers worked fine the day before and then it completely wouldnt even turn on! I checked the batter, its fine. I checked the charger for the wall outlet and it was fine and the green light on the charger is lite, so I know it has power. The computer wont even turn on, or even attempt too! I tried different chargers for them, but nothing happened. Have I lost 2 laptops? I have no idea what to do!?!

Oh dear, you are in a pickle.

Try removing the battery from the laptop and then plugging in the power and turning it on .... and then try starting the computer.

Hello,

For some reason I have to use F5 to turn on my laptop. The regular ON/OFF switch doesn't work.
It's a HP Pavilion G6.

Also when it starts (before the Windows logo) I get the following message:

The HP BIOS application selected is corrupt or missing. Please install the application and try again.
BIOS application error (501).

However, I can continue to Windows after I pressed ENTER.
I read on several forums to turn off HP Quicklook 2 in the BIOS but this option is not present for me.

I have already reinstalled Windows 10 and tried to update the BIOS but without luck, the error persists.

The computer does not turn on. Sometime ago I noticed that the white LED light on the power button was not on but the computer was turning on and working ok otherwise; so I did not pay attention to it. One day the computer simply did not turn on at all. I removed the battery and kept the laptop connected to the wall and I tried resetting by pressing the power button for up to 2 minutes before trying to turn the laptop on again, but it did not work. I let the computer sit for two days and it turned on when I pressed the power button (although the LED light on the power button still remained off). The laptop worked ok for two days and when I tried to turn it on on the third day, nothing happened. There is only a steady white led light, right next to where the AC cable connects to the laptop. There is nothing else. No sounds or beeps of any kind, no fan turning on, just the light next to where the AC connects to the laptop.  I tried a different cord and the same thing. Is it the power button? Is it the motherboard? when the computer worked after the two day window, I scanned it using the HP diagnostics software built into the system, and I got a code indicating the battery was defective so I have ordered a new HP battery, nevertheless when I tried scanning for the BIOS, I got a response the system could not read the BIOS.Please help. My laptop is about five yrs old and I do not have money to buy another computer or even to afford an expensive repair. Tha... Read more

A:laptop won't turn off!

On normal desktop machines, if you hold the power button for around 4 seconds, it automatically shuts down the pc. (providing it has soft shut down set up in the bios)..

firstly i would try using this method..

Please post back if it still fails to shut down.

Last night while I was using my laptop it suddenly shut down without any error or message. It wasn't overheating as it was on only for about 15 minutes. I couldn't turn it back on afterwards. The charging light in on like everything is normal. Battery was full and laptop was plugged in. When I try to turn it on with pressing the power on button, the button itself blinks for about half a second, maybe even less, the fan starts running for about the same time, the light that indicates that laptop is plugged in, the one I mentioned earlier, shuts down and that's it, nothing happens. I tried the hard reset but it didn't help. What could be the problem? Laptop is about 4 years old.

A:Laptop won't turn on

I think I should mention that I've been getting the replace battery message for quite a while now. Battery could only hold for around 15minutes fully charged.
