I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

There are several resons.1. The wifi signal might be too weak at the point where the computer is.2. Other device radiation/signals might be blocking it.3. Your router signal might be hodden (check EWS of router).4. Signal broadcasting might have been turned off on router. Since other signals are found on the computer, there shouldnt be a issue with your couputer.

I would like to upgrade from the stock wifi Realtek b/g/n wifi card to a 1x1 or 2x2 AC wifi and bluetooth card in my and my wife's 15-ay196nr Notebooks, but cannot seem to find the service manual listed cards available for sale anywhere online. The service manual lists two 1x1 cards: Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + BT 4.2 ComboIntel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + BT 4.2 Combo Adapter Again, would prefer to install compatible 2x2 cards to maximize the bandwidth capability through my AC router, but will settle for 1x1's if it will provide faster speeds than the stock Realtek RTL8723BE 802.11b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi + BT4.0 Combo Adapter. Appreciate any help you can provide in finding a suitable solution!?

Ive only had my computer for a few weeks.  When I first started using it, it was very slow and the wifi kept cutting in and out.  I thought it was an issue with just my computer until everyone in my house was having the same problem I was having.  Cutting off at the same time.  So I thought it was the router (we never had any problems before I got this computer).  But I thought about it and noticed that the time I got the computer was the same time we started to have router problems.  So I turned my computer off for a day.  NO router problems for any of the other computers.  I turn it back on for a day, router problems for everyone.  I homeschool, so my computer is vital to my kids schooling.  Because there computers are connected to mine to do school (wirelessly).  So right now I have it hooked up to my router by ethernet cable (very inconvient this way, cause these really no safe place to put my computer where the router is set up).  And it works great on just the cable.  No wifi cut offs for anyone esle either.  So my computer is causing the Wifi crashing. I have done all my Windows and HP updates.  And have updated my wireless driver (Realtrk RTL8188EE 802.11) Wifi rounter info....Huawel Technologies....Model: HG532eCompter specs.....HP Notebook....Windows 10 64 bit....Intel i5 500U....6 GB memory...1 TB Hard Drive

Hi Folks, New to the forums here and after some advice if possible. I have a hp notebook( 15-r211na) which has a Realtek RTL8723BE wifi adapter to which I want to replace with : - a) Something other than realtekb) Preferrably is 802.11ACc) Preferrably can be a direct replacement instead of an external USB adapter.d) Runs ok with Linux(Ubuntu). As my notebook is out of warranty, I'm not worried about warranty issues - just getting fed up with Windows and would prefer using Ubuntu(or other linux versions in time) as my O/S which I have tried out previously. Any help with the above would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the Manual, see p. 61.  Manual Replacing the wireless card is not easy but you say you have already done it once. Was there one or 2 antennae? If only one your options are very limited to 1 x 1 cards. You have no whitelist so the system will boot and run with any wireless card of the same form factor.  The Ralink and Realtek cards offered by HP are not really good hardware but about the best you can do if you have a single antenna.  This is what you want to get, the Holy Grail, if you have 2 antennae: https://www.amazon.com/Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-Ac-Hmc/dp/B00DMCVKMU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=14874554... Post back with any more questions.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

I have a Netgear WGT624 v2 wireless router that I thought I may be able to use as a WiFi adapter. I have a Bell wireless router/modem combo that my pc hooks up to currently, and five laptops that hook up to this network. I will be moving the pc from where it currently is situated to make a video game/tv room, which will include an xbox 360 that does not have a wireless adapter. This where the router would come in if it is possible. I was hoping to leave the network router where it is and hardwire to the xbox 360. The pc, which does not have a wireless ethernet card has windows xp pro on it and I was hoping to use the router for this computer. Thanks.

A:Wireless router as WiFi adapter?

If the router includes the feature you can use it as a Wireless Bridge or Access Point Client. If it does not include that feature maybe there someday will be DD-WRT firmware for it.

My internet keeps dropping out and when troubleshoot says 'default gateway not available' and fixes it. it drops out anywhere from every 1 minute to a few hours. must disable wifi adapter and then enable and all is fine.

I was told to set a static ip which i did and had no effect.

I thought this may be a router problem as it was very old but I have just bought a new router (d-link dsl 2544n) which seemed to work fine but then the ssid keeps disappearing and the internet connection is gone. Different issue but same result.

I then thought it may be the laptop wifi card but i got a new usb wifi adapter (netgear wg111v3) and disabled internal laptop wifi card which again appeared to work for a few days without any problem but now it is back.

However when i now use my laptop wifi card the ssid from the new router keeps disappearing and i lose connection. I have an old phone in my room where the laptop is which i use as a remote for my computer media and it also has the ssid disappearing from the new router and I must disable and reanable the wifi and it comes back fine. All other wifi devices do not have a problem including another laptop in another room.

I am now thinking this may be some sort of interference or the like. Any help would be appreciated. I am not overly computer savvy so simple terms would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Hello forum people,

I have the following problem on my Toshiba Satellite R850 running Win7 64bit: I decided to change the wireless adapter so I can connect to the 5GHz wifi network my router provides which wasnt possible on the Atheros wireless adapter it came with. I changed it to a Intel Wireless AC 3160- the physical change went quick and without problems and while the adapter is basically working now the problem I'm facing now is that the F8-hotkey function to de-/activate the Wifi and Bluetooth is no longer working. When I press the hotkey button all the different hotkey combinations show up on the upper part of the screen, but now there's only F1-F7 and F9, F8 just went missing. Does anyone have any idea how to get it back?

Thanks in advance and take care

I am currently using a Thinkpad L440. For about a year and a half now, I have been having random Wifi drops on my laptop. The wifi will suddenly stop working and my browser will prompt me to run Windows Diagnostics. Windows Diagnostics will detect the problem and reset my wifi adapter which fixes the problem. Then the same problem occurs after some time. I tried updating all the drivers, as well as the BIOS. I also tried removing the wifi apapter driver through Device Manager and reinstalling but this did not solve the isse. In fact, the wifi seems slower after doing this. As a note, whenever I run a scan using LSC, under WIreless > Local Connection Test, I get a warning sign. This has been consistent for about as long as the problem has been occuring.  Model: L440BIOS: J4ET91WW(1.91)Wifi Adapter: 2x2 11bgn Wireless LAN M.2 Adapter Appreciate any advice.

Hi, My laptop has a very weak wifi detection. Only when the wifi signal is very strong can it detect the wifi. I tried contacting HP regarding the same. They said it could be a loose connection with the wifi antenna. I have been waiting for the custumer service in my area to contact me(like HP promised!!!) for quite a long time now . Now I am in urgent need to get this fixed. I was wondering if an external wifi adapter would solve this issue. Mine is a Windows 10 laptop. Model no: ab030tx (pavilion). If an external adapter works, what would you suggest? (I am confused as a lot of products available in market only convert the laptop to a hotspot)

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file to the faulty PC and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

I have a HP Notebook 15. I restarted my laptop this morning and when it came back on, all options for connecting to the internet via WiFi were gone. I am able to connect to the internet via ethernet cable, and everything works this way. There are no options whatsoever to connect to WiFi or reset the connection or anything, however the WiFi itself is working because other devices in the house are connected to it. I followed a HP technical support online page, which provided step-by-step instructions of various ways to reconnect to WiFi but nothing worked. I tried restarting the computer, updating the driver software, making sure it wasn't in airplane mode, and troubleshooting. Nothing worked. What should I try next?

Hi,

I recently bought dlink D2750U WIFI ADSL modem/router, for my ADSL internet connection.

But I have now changed my ISP, who provide internet via cable(not telephone line). The ISP guy provides a cable modem(old modem) along with it.

I have connected my PC this way:
Cable modem -> Router -> PC through RJ45. I am able to access internet from my PC, but I am not able to get wifi working on the router. And I am logging onto internet through a dial up connection.
Questions:
1) Please help in configuring the router to get wifi working.
2) Also, my default gateway seems to be either 0.0.0.0 or blank. So, I am not able to login to the modem unless I remove the modem connection. Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong here.

Here are a few more details:
Output of ipconfig: http://pastebin.com/Zr9Eb7L7

A:Using dlink D2750U Wifi Modem/Router As a Wifi Router

Hey Narain. The D-Link unit you have appears to be a combo unit (modem and wireless router) since it connects straight to the RJ-11 phone line. This unit won't work with an ISP that provides service by way of coax cable. The D-Link will work if you want to use DSL, but you need a cable service compatible modem or combo modem/router if you use cable service.

Hi:

Thanks for having me on your forum.

As the title of my post states, I'm having issues with my Windows 10 Wifi or lack thereof.

Let me clarify. I just got FIOS installed back in May 2016. Originally, it was supposed to be installed in March but then Verizon workers went on strike.

Anyway, before getting FIOS and the Quantum Modem/Router, I had DSL Linksy router. I attempted to access/utilize the wireless capabilities of the old DSL router and lo-and behold it worked. I was able to use the "Cast to" feature with the Samsung Smart TV. Everything was working great. Then I got the FIOS Quantum Modem/Router and now not only did the Wifi disappear from my Windows 10 "Settings" but the WLAN Network adapter is also missing from my "Device Manager". Basically I need to know if this is FIOS Modem/Router or something with my motherboard. I don't know if it's the motherboard but I'm not ruling the possibility out that it could be. I say this because there wasn't an issue with WLAN Adapter missing from the "Device Manager" before I got new so-called improved FIOS Quantum Modem/Router. Regardless of how things shake out I would appreciate any help that you can provide.

Thanks,

P.S. I might not get back to you quickly as sometimes when I get home from work the last thing I feel like doing to getting on the computer.

Uhhg, im about ready to spontaneously combust, and if i was drinker, i probably would have already, considering alcohol would only fuel that process further. But here is the deal (ill start with problem #2 first, since thats more important for me right now).

I have an older pc that im trying to connect to another pc for LAN connectivity, etc. The older one is a Pentium 4, with XP-SP3 on it. The one i use for all my gaming and 'hardcore' stuff, is a Core2 E8400, with XP SP2 on it (didnt want to put XP3 on it, till im done seeing how things run on the other pc, and what apps will/wont work). For about 5 days, i tried connecting my Linksys WUSBF54G Wireless Adapter to the P4, only to be pounded with Code 10's Device Cannot Start until i put it into a different USB port for the 192nd time, and it suddenly decided to work . Of course, now i cant connect to my own router, but thats been going on for ages and i cant seem to fix it. I thought maybe it would suddenly work when i tried it now, but still no luck. It broadcasts fine, shows in the WZC Network Search section on the P4 w/ good signal strength, and i can connect to another unsecured network in my household just fine. I tried my own router with WPA2 encryption, and then without it, but still, it just says CONNECTING and then the window disappears (no error, nothing). Afterwards, when i look at the wireless network monitor in the taskbar, it says 54mb, NO SIGNAL, Wireless Network Connection (ACCESS POINT), but... Read more

I am currently stationed in Germany, and live in a village that has horrible internet. I cannot stream netflix, hulu, and downloads take several hours.

Is there a way to combine the internet that my cell phone receives and the wifi router I have at home to increase speed?

I have the ability to create a wifi hotspot from my cell phone if this helps.

Just something I thought up in my head, and wanted to find out if it is possible. Thanks in advance.

I am looking to replace my tired Linksys WRT54G router that is about 10 years old. I love the router, and its even better with DD-WRT on it, but I'm starting to have troubles with the wifi dropping all the connects for a couple seconds when running all my wireless devices. I have 3 smart phones, 2 tablets, 1 Chromecast, a smart TV, and Roku + a laptop or 3 in my house right now, and it seems like its getting to be a bit much for it.
I have had to completely re-flash the firmware twice this year to get the wifi working again, so I'm thinking its time for replacement.
I have been thinking about just getting the new WRT54GL for $50, but I'm also thinking it might be a good idea to upgrade the wifi technology past wireless G .
I'm wondering if my Tablet (Nexu 9), and our smartphones (Razr HD Max) along with the Chromecast will take advantage of the new wireless standards and higher speeds or not? If they will can someone recomend a decent wireless router that takes DD-WRT nicely in the sub-$100 range? Thanks!

A:Looking for new Wifi Router - Will Tablet/Smartphone take advantage of new wifi Standards?

I been programming in Android/Linux since 2010 and there is code that supports VHT is Very High Throughput. Right now the standards are HT is High Throughput .

As for DD-WRT firmware is like your overclocking your router pushing it beyond the OEM limits. I use to use DD-WRT but had quit many years ago since the routers that used that firmware would fail too much.

So best to buy a better business type enterprise router wired then you can use WiFi router as AP or just get WiFi AP(access point). To me WiFi Router is also Wired Router, but to use just a wired router and use WiFi AP through a switch is better. If one or the other goes you can easy replace them. Where as if the WiFi Router fails you would need to replace it.

If you really want to use DD-WRT then Look at Buffalo WiFi Routers some come pre-installed with DD-WRT on them. Frankly you really don't need DD-WRT today because newer routers or WiFi routers are much better built and offer much more power NPU = network processor units and 128, 256, 512, 1GB of RAM some have Dual Cores.

So, there are many articles out there that will show you how to use cmd prompt to create a wifi hotspot (eg: this article Internet Connection Sharing - Create WiFi HotSpot)

However, is there anyway to do this with TWO separate wifi adapters? That is, use one adapter to connect to your router and the other to act as the router? Some articles seem to indicate this is the ideal setup but no one seems to specify how to control which wifi adapter is used to create the wifi hostpot in command prompt.

Thanks for any help.

If I can get the basics to work, the next step is to try to integrate a VPN so that I can basically use my PC as a VPN router (but with no physical ethernet connection).

Everyone's had the problem of wanting to disable the wifi miniport, or enable it to share wifi.

I have a different problem. I would like to change which wireless device the wifi miniport uses, as the external USB wireless adapter I was using died. I cannot see the wifi miniport adapter without that device attached, it seems. I don't even know if the wifi adapter even as options to select which wireless card to use even if I could get it to appear.

Is there a way to do this without having to resort to reinstalling Windows 7?

I am fairly familiar with netsh. No command line option seems to be available to switch network adapters for the wifi miniport.

It also appears that it will simply not switch to the only wireless network adapter detected, and I know it will host a virtual wifi network, I've done ICS/AdHoc before.

A:How does one change which wifi adapter the wifi miniport uses?

I tried the solution in this link: How to change default Microsoft Virtual WiFi miniport adapter?

This did not work.

I have been trying for some time to accomplish the title result. I'm not techie enough to do it.

What I want is to be able to use a Tablet to read in the rear of my home (which is out of range for incoming wifi signal.)

If I can set up the computer to do this, I will cable connect to a router in that area.
I have two computers and could use either.

1.a PC running XP (should update to windows 8.1, but have never bothered to do that, since XP works just fine. (I had this computer sharing to the router, when I had DSL internet connection, using Windows wizard to set it up) Couldn't get it to work when I switched to WIFI internet access) I could switch to win 7 or 8.1 if that would help.

2. a Lap Top running WIN 8.1,

Any help is appreciated.

A:Internet access via WIFI and share WIFI via second router

Due to the age of XP this is not the best option for what you want to do

Either windows 7 or 8.1 have access to Internet connection sharing (ICS) built in

To use ICS you need at least two connections to the local LAN, these can be any mix of wifi or Ethernet.

As you have a laptop you likely already have a system to use for this

There is a tutorial explaining the basics ... and more on this site

Check it out and post back if you have any issues

Where you live is your setup like this?

#1
Internet
Modem
WiFi Router

or

#2
Internet

If you want extend the WiFi you would get WiFi Access Point. Or you can take a WiFi Router and disable NAT, SPI, DCHP, then you create a static IP address. 192.168.x.50

So I got a new router yesterday to replace the old one, and I've been working on it for a long time. But I can't seem to figure out why there isn't any internet connection. The new WiFi Router (D-Link DR-842) Shows it is connected to the internet (green light) but in the setup page, it says disconnected. Could the PPPoE details be causing this? As far as I know everything is correctly set up except for the internet part.

I may be misunderstanding you but if you're getting WiFi out of your broadband appliance already, you don't need a router. If you do want to use a WiFi router, you're not going to be using the WiFi signal from the broadband appliance.

Hello guys, I'm new here, and I know that this sounds like a duplicate thread, but I couldn't find anything similar to this one.  I have said laptop with the Intel wireless card (7260) running Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.04. I'm on the go quite often so I have connected to several wifi routers with no issues.  And there is my home. I am rarely here, but when I get here I can connect to my wifi router (2.4 GHz), but often experiencing unusually high pings (above 1000 ms). This happens on both OS-esI have the latest wireless driversIn Windows Device Manager I set everything I could to max the wifi performanceNo other device has this issue (two laptops, two smartphones, an USB wifi stick on my home network (not simultaneously of course))The environment should not be an issue. The router is 6-7 meters away, with two walls between the router and the laptop. I have an older Lenovo laptop next to this one (G580) and it has no issues at all. The laptop does not have this issue with other devicesThe issue is with the connection between the laptop and the router (I tried reaching the router's config site, same slowness)The network properties say that my connection link's speed is 27/27 MBPS, sometimes less, sometimes more, but I always have a strong signal There is only one other wifi router nearby and that's on a different channel. It is starting to get really annoying, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I have a wireless adsl router in preparation for broadband arriving in our area soon (long story), and have some questions:

I have a laptop with wifi card and want to setup a home network with this, and my PC (plugged-in via LAN cable to the router).. laptop is XP, PC is Win2K
I can't seem to get this to work. one minute the PC can 'see' the laptop (in network neighbourhood) and then the other way round, but I can never access shared directories on either... is there a good guide somewhere to set this up?

Also, shouldn't I be able to use the router from the PC as if it were a wifi card?
i.e. on the laptop, once the wifi card is plugged in, it displays all wifi networks in the area and their signal strength etc.... how can I do this using the router/PC??

With the laptop I can connect to our neighbours wifi router and use their bradband connection, but I want to do the same from the PC.. is that possible?

Thanks in advance all..

(P.S. router is a D-Link DSL-604+)

Hello
I have an HP pavillion desktop (s5360f) with Atheros 802.11 a/b/g/n Dualband Wireless Module and D-Link router DIR-615. My numerous Laptops and iPhons / iPads work fine, but this desktop which is further away from the router (in another room, about 20 meters) only shows 1-2 bars of wifi. First I bought a big additional D-Link antenna (7Ghz) but it didn't really help - sometimes connction shows 3 bars. I was told this antenna should help a lot. Then I checked with my router settings and saw that the HP uses "g" connection when everything else uses "n". I even set it to only use "n" but still it shows the HP using "g". I updated the driver (Atheros 9.2.0.113 for AR5B91), but it didn't help. I have "n" enabled in Atheros in Device manager.
Now I'm lost and can't think of anything else that can be a problem and / or how to fix it... I don't have any thick walls between the router and the HP, my iPhone seems to work in this room just fine...
Please help!
THANK YOU!

I just moved into a 2 story duplex with my downstairs neighbor and I sharing the utilities. He's got the internet and I've got the waste utilities.
At any rate. He's broadcasting an open WiFi signal that I'm trying to connect to with my HTPC. All I have is a Linksys WRT54 series router.

Can I configure this WiFi router to pick up this signal or is it for broadcasting only? What would you call that 'recieveing-only' type of connection?

A:Can I use a Linksys WRT54 router as WiFi "adapter"?

Nope
Different ways in setting up your Linksys wireless router

Quote:
5. Cascading your router
You can extend your existing wireless network by connecting two (2) routers which are capable of sharing network resources. This process is called cascading.

With cascading routers, you can improve the performance of the network without removing your older router and isolate the network traffic. For step-by-step instructions, click here.

NOTE: Linksys routers cannot be used as wireless repeaters, bridges or media connectors. If you want to extend the signal and improve the performance of your wireless network, you will need a wireless range extender (RE1000 or RE2000) or a wireless media connector

Linksys WRT54 manual (PDF)

Why not negotiate hooking up your router to your neighbor's network? That would isolate his use of wireless from your use. Or just pick the signal - with permission.

This of course implies that your neighbor is inclined to share their resource.

recently i was having major computer issues on my desktop, i did a full restore to factory settings and after doing a few windows updates i found that my network adaptor was not finding any signals. it does not show up in the change adaptor settings page or in the device manager page. when i troubleshoot my internet connection it says an ethernet cable is not properly plugged in. I have a desktop computer but it definately has a wireless network card. i used to get windows updates for it and it just stopped working one day. when i look in the BIOS the only option related to booting a network card is B03 D00 Yukon PXE. no matter when i boot it i still dont get wireless signals. when i go into the boot menu and try to boot this device it says " PXE E61: media test failure please check cable" i have opened the tower and the card is securely in its slot. i thought i would workaround by getting a usb wifi card. I installed it and connected to the internet and it alternated between having a connection to the internet and being connected to the network but not the internet. even when it is connected to the internet i cannot reach any web pages. my dropbox desktop files update very slowly (7kb/s). when i am connected with the usb card the network stops working for everyone else in the house. they can no longer reach web pages or continue downloads. please help.

Hi there

If you've a spare / old router which you can set up as a wifi bridge and connect a bit of LAN cable from Laptop into the Bridge router you'll generally get FAR better performance from even a cheap router.

Logic behind this is that most Wifi adapters are half duplex whereas a router is full duplex and throughput will be significantly better.

Another advantage is that you can still use 5 GHZ band even if your PC or whatever only can handle 2.4 GHZ wifi.

If your router doesn't have bridging facilities you can often do it by a firmware upgrade --for most routers try this :

www.dd-wrt.com | Unleash Your Router

Note --this is the Bridging router --not your main one that you use to connect to your ISP with --don't want to cause people to have inoperable boxes !!!!!.

I've found using a Router as a bridge far better than having to have loads of LAN cable all round the house --and also antennae in wifi routers are hugely better than most built in Wifi cards so you can in a lot of cases avoid extra slowdown caused by wifi extenders.

In my "man shed" -- a good 100 metres from the main house - could just about get 8 Mib/s on a very poor 2.4 GHZ wifi signal from the wifi card

Laptop now acceptable - still with 2,4 GHZ wifi but using "Bridged" method with an old EDIMAX wifi 4 port router. Around 70 Mib/s (still a lot slower by about 10X - I'm getting nearly 1Gb/s download in main house on 5 GHZ wifi --ISL has excellent Internet !!!... Read more

Power down PC...while it off remove USB wifi adapter....power on PC. When PC has finished booting up, search in the uninstall programs list for any software related Netgear and uninstall it. Reboot and start the process again.

According to the system requirements for that device, it does not support windows 10, which may be you issue.
