Recording streaming media

Q: Recording streaming media

Hey, I'm having some trouble recording streamed video content from this site. None of my programs seem to be able to capture any download link, and since the content is taken offline soon, it'd be nice to be able to keep around. Not to redistribute or anything like the disclaimer on the site claims to be illegal.

Any help?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey guys,

I need to record a VGA signal (preferably on a laptop) so that it can be backed up and played later. I also need to be able to live stream this signal on a website.

The signal is coming from a security camera (within a nature zone) and is reaching its destination monitor (through a server) via VGA signal.

What would you guys recommend?

Thanks,
Aidan.

Is there any way to make a clean recording? Thanks, Larry.

Hi!

I want to record a radio program that runs for three hours nightly, from midnight to 3:00A.M. on the internet. The program is the classics from the "Golden Age of Radio" that I hope to copy for a senior in the hospital.

The plan is to record it as a low resolution MP3 (32 or 64 bit), burn it to a cd that would be played on a discman.

I know I have to purchase a recording program such as Total Recorder or Super MP3 Recorder.

I have tried the trial version of TR that allows only 40 seconds. It is hard to determine how large the file size of the would be. The instructions seem to be slanted more to song recording length, not three hours.

Before I buy I would like any some advice. Has anyone done this? Are there any recomendations?

Thanks

Problems with the audio playback when recording streaming audio :

I have downloaded several 'what you hear' recording apps. Tonight was Audacity with Lame encoder and then when that did not work, downloaded and installed MP3MyMP3.

Since they do not come with great instructions, all I did was go to my favorite streaming audio from a local radio station ; got the show playing through my speakers; opened up the recording app and then pressed the record button. Both apps seemed to be recording and both saved to mp3 files. But when I play them back there is no audio. Am I missing a step ?

my audio card is NVIDAI(R)nFORCE AUDIO. OS is XP.

Hi - I have a RealTek HD sound card in my E-Machines desktop system (new). I'm trying to record streaming audio - basically I want to simply record what I'm hearing through my speakers. But when I try to choose that input, it doesn't seem to be there. My choices are CD Volume, FrontMic, Mic Volume, and Line Volume (see attached pic) - and FYI - I did scroll over to the right - no additional options there.

There is no "wave" or "stereo mix" input choice. Any of the available choices I've tried and they don't record the live audio that's playing on my system. Is there a plug-in or something that will allow me to do this? I just want to record the same stuff that I'm hearing. Help! Thanks -

I recently had a friend replace my computer, as it died. On my other computer, I had Audacity to record internet streaming audio, and to record spoken parts for my podcast show. When I had Audacity installed on my old computer, it had 4 options: Line-In, Microphone, Stereo, and Mono. I used the mono and stereo options to record streaming internet audio.
After installing Audacity on this computer, I only have the Line-In, and Microphone options. I have tried downloading other versions of Audacity, but it still only has the Line-In and Mic options no matter what version that I install. (I have version 1.2.6 of Audacity installed presently on my computer) The sound card is a SoundMax AudioESP. My friend says that he installed the lateest drivers for that sound card before he gave it to me. I am at a loss as to how to regain the stereo and mono options on Audacity, so I can record internet audio once again.

It's not Audacity, it's your sound card. It doesn't support the Advanced internal features for recording.
Go to the store and get a splitter. Plug it into your speaker port and run a jumper to your Line In from one of the splitter ports and plug your speakers into the other splitter port.
Configure Audacity to use the Line in as the Source device.

Pretty self explanatory- my specs are on my profile and I'm including the zip file as per usual BSOD post.

My computer runs the game fine and can even handle media on my second monitor during gaming. I've rarely had issues streaming / recording / watching stuff and gaming simultaneously - I've been having all kinds of issues as of late and while I can run the game without issues at all - as soon as OBS comes into the picture I get BSOD'd.

The reason I'm making this post rather than accepting the limitation of a weaker graphics card (outside of the BSOD) is that on day one I was able to stream and record simultaneously for hours on end - and even earlier points throughout the week I've had no problems.

However lately while toning everything down and running less background stuff I still crash much harder than I should. Earlier I tried to record 5 minutes of content and my system crashed hard, but hours prior I'd recorded a solid 2 hours without break.

I appreciate any input and will give any info that I missed - thanks for taking the time guys.

I have followed thoroughly various tutorials for setting up OBS for streaming. Initially I had set it up for Youtube, then switched to Twitch. This works fine. I have absolutely no complaint with that. Streaming out to these platforms is working as I would like.
This issue I'm experiencing is what I can best describe as a pulsing or jumping, about once per second when I play a file back that I have recorded (not streamed) with OBS.

The audio is flawless, no stuttering, nothing like that. Audio BR is at 160...

As I watch the status information in OBS as I am recording, I see no warning about overloaded encoder, the frame rates are where they are supposed to be, no dropped frames. everything should appear to be good. CPU load is unremarkable, again plenty of headroom. It doesn't seem to matter if I increase bit rate, decrease bit rate, CBR, VBR, increase or decrease framerate, or which software i use to view the output fine: VLC, WMP, whatever, there is this pulsing. Its just enough to be annoying. Its subtle, but it's there. And it doesn't matter which PC I play the file on ( I have a few I can test it with)

The computer running OBS is more than adequate for the task.

I have - in an effort to improve things - changed recording format, changed encoder, even the location to which I was saving it ( initially that was a network drive, but I change to an internal SSD for test purposes) I can not get rid of this.

This is just for a little pet project, I ... Read more

Greetings all, it has been awhile since I last posted, aside from my computers of which I have 4, I am also a long time audiophile, and have quite the collection of high end vintage stereo equipment. I have a friend who is more hard core about his sounds than I am.
I am fishing for opinions, I have bought a new ASUS lap top that I have a really good sound card and Graphics HDMI card installed. I also am an avid user of ITunes, and have found that their Lossless recordings are better than most of my CDs. I am also rather tired of playing one CD after another, so I recorded all my music, a little over 100gigs on 3 of my computers one being my new lap top. I also use ITunes Icloud service for storing my entire library including all my settings, and have used it to load up my laptop with all their lossless versions of all my music including what I bought from them.
I find the quality to be better than CDs, and better than what I hear on my tube CD player, while playing it from my computer files. My friend says that recorded music on a computer will degrade over time, and that a hard drive will not keep all files in one place, therefore the degrading of the information. He says that the new streaming services along with the new streaming players are far better. Herein lies the information I seek; Which is better, what are the opinions that the rest of you have, is computer recorded music better, or is streaming music on these new (very expensive) players better..., or is ther... Read more

A:Computer Harddrive recording or Streaming lossless audio, which is best?

Which is better depends on the source and the quality settings of the capture. A lossless copy of a CD and the actual CD should sound the SAME. If they do not, you have a player, configuration, or hardware issue. It doesn't matter if you are comparing CD's, ripped files from a CD, or streaming files (assuming all files are from the same source CD version).

Files stored on a computer do not "degrade over time". They will never change unless of course the HDD fails. So you either misunderstood what you friend was telling you, or he doesn't understand computers.

Hi there!

I am trying to record internet radio as it is streaming online (Itunes radio). I am using recording software: Audacity on my laptop, which is a Lenovo U450 ideapad. However each time I record, I am picking up the sound of the laptop microphone as well, i.e. I canít just record the sound of the streaming music; I record all the other sounds in the room as well! The same thing happens with the 'Sound Recorder' software on the laptop. I have tried changing some settings on audacity ie trying to use different microphone inputs. It gives me the option to use:

MME Microsoft Sound Mapper Ė Input
MME Realtek High Definition
Windows Direct Sound Primary Capture Driver
Windows Direct Sound microphone (Realtek High Definition)

However all these currently pick up the laptop microphone ie my speaking as well as the music. I tried using an older version of Audacity but that didnít work. Do you have any ideas around it please? Maybe you can you tell me how to disable the main laptop microphone so it just picks up whatís playing? I used to be able to do this perfectly on my pc. Thank you very much for trying!

Hi Everyone,

I am in the process of organising a playlist of music videos for my works Christmas Party. This year I want to do something really special in the form of streaming the music videos from one (host) computer to several (guest) computers using VLC Media Player.

Here is a link to the method that I am using to Stream music videos -

https://www.evernote.com/shard/s278...999ab741c93f/5e344d246d17fcd8415e999e4cb175b1

I have decided on the HTTP method of streaming because this appears to be relatively simple to setup, and effective for reaching multiple clients.

However immediately I have noticed a number of caveats -

1). Media doesn't always play at the same time on all clients. I would like all music videos to play in sync (ignoring potential network 'lag' issues)

2). VLC gets stuck with the Playlist of music videos that I have created; it plays the first music video on each of the clients, but once the first music video comes to an end VLC stops playing altogether.

* In some instances it just stops, and provides no on screen messages
** In other instances it pops up a box which I have come to believe is related to missing codecs (even though the 'server' and all 'clients' have exactly the same codec packs installed).

I am looking for some tips on the optimum way to stream music videos (in a variety of formats, e.g.: avi, flv, mpg, mpeg). Ideally I need to setup several hours of music videos and just hit the 'play button&... Read more

So for some background I basically stream music, pictures and video content from my computer to an Xbox 360 in the lounge room for my family to enjoy. This has worked for quite a long time with Windows 7.

I installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview today and got settled in with it and indexed my libraries with Windows Media player so this could resume. But to my dismay this doesn't seem to work in Windows 8.

I have each folder and hard drive shared on windows for network use, I have a little experience from LANs in this area. I have enabled all streaming options in WMP that I know of and the entirety of my library has been fully indexed. This is WMP 12 and everything I possibly know of is up to date.

I haven't got the Homegroup feature active as I never had to use this before.

The only other thing I have noticed that has changed is this. A little green icon that in windows 7 would appear on top of the xboxs, I'm assuming this means something.

On the Xbox end it used to display the Libraries such as 'Recorded TV', 'Music', 'TV Shows', 'Movies' and other things but now when I try to access video content it gives me a folder called 'Videos' which contains nothing.

Does anybody know of any solutions?

A:How to set up media streaming on Windows Media Player via network

Hi Karsten,

I have my own radio station- currently down now, because of a problem I'm having with my two hard drives. I use Winamp to stream the music. This, I've found, is the easiest method out there, and is compatible with just about all other media players (i.e., Windows Media, iTunes, Musicmatch, and of course, Winamp can all tune in).

To use this setup, you will need Winamp player, SHOUTcast DNAS server, and the shoutcast winamp plugin. These are all free.

In order to serve from within a network, you'll have to set up port forwarding for port 8000 (or whatever port you choose to serve on).

This is everything you need to get started. If after downloading all of these, you find yourself unsure of what to do, post again and I'll walk you through it- I just don't have the time to write out a guide unless it's needed.

Hope this helps.

Oh, and this is for streaming audio. Video is much more complicated and time-consuming.

I'm trying to burn some pictures but I got this message " " THERE IS NO MEDIA INSIDE THE RECORDING DEVICE, PLEASE INSERT MEDIA" am I doing something wrong? I can burn most anything else except this particular lot of pictures, I must add that it's about 600 pics.

Thanks for your help....

I like the concept of the media center. It is very easy to use. I can record to a dvd on this, except when I tried a dvd+rw (it did not work). My system is suppose to allow this.

My system came pre-installed with the Sonic My DVD. I have not been able to record using that program. I have tried every update, suggestion, recovery that is out there, and though I now get fewer errors, I am still left with Sonic My Dvd has encountered an error. This seems to be ann error signature problem with the application name my dvd.exe. I thought it was the sonic encoders, but I believe I have those, since I can record in the windows media center.

HP now wants me to do a non-destructive recovery, which I am not comfortable with.

I just installed the Nero 8 trial, and am not thrilled with it. It will bring up my files from media center in one area under the video & tv setting, but when I go to the burn section, it does not see the files. Also, as I just installed this, I don't know how to pre-record tv, like the media center allows. When watching the tv, I get a squiggly green line in the center of the picture. (very annoying)

The media center made the initial recording so simple, why can't they just supply the added features, such as editing. Even if consumers had to pay for this, it would boost their income, as I would pay a small amount.

I really would just like my Sonic software to work, but I'm believing I may be out of luck with that. If anyone has any suggestion... Read more

I posted this in a few other forums, but I'm not getting the results I want.

Basically:

I tried a rudimentary Google search for this problem, but gave up after reaching the 5th page or so.

My problem is that I cannot turn on Media Streaming under Homegroup settings. The check box is grayed out. When I click the "choose media streaming options", a message shows up saying "media streaming is disabled by group policy defined by your administrator".

I am the administrator of this computer, so how do I tweak the "group policy" in order to enabled Media Streaming?

Much thanks.

Can't check the box:

So I clicked settings. What's group policy?

And I saw the problem was over my head.

Someone else asked me if I was really the admin....

Also, someone else told me to go to the "Streaming" menu in Windows Media Player.

Where is it?

Group Policy is a security feature in Windows 7 and can be managed in Windows 7 Ultimate & Enterprise Editions via GPEDIT.

The problem is that in windows xp I share the file I want and they appear on my TV via the wifi.
But in windows 7 they are not, even that I shared the files in windows 7.
In the media player on my PC the function turn on media stream is off.
The check box - start media stream is grey (see the attach file).

Hello Eyal, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might want to translate that to English using Google Translate so we can understand what it is saying. I'm afraid most of us are not able to read this language.

Thank you,
Shawn

Hey All,

I want to be able to plug a device into a USB port on my PC, then plug into the TV via either USB, HDMI, or even RCA to watch movies in AVI format. Is there any such device? If so what is it called, how much do they usually go for, and where can I get my hands on it?!

With most tools and gadgets out there, surely such a device exists where you can point it to a folder or a drive with media content on it? My father has a 'streamer' that has its own menu and you tune to it on the TV, then navigate to a file on a USB HDD, but to save the hassle from transferring to a drive when I download something new I want it to be able to be accessible all the time and straight away.

Cheers!

Try Speedbit Video Accelerator. Maybe it would help.
