Laptop Nic Card Issue

Q: Laptop Nic Card Issue

First off, thank you for taking the time to review my situtation.

I am running Win7 Home Premium.

The issue is that the nic card will not pick up any connections around it.

I installed a brand new nic card and still nothing. Device manager says it's enabled, i did install the correct drivers and the wireless button is activated on the laptop.

Im not sure what to do next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a Toshiba P25-S526 laptop, a couple years old. Running Windows XP, all updates downloaded, so it has the most recent service pack and everything.

I just had a very bad virus in it but I restored it. It's been running fine since the restore, up til now.

We had a few problems problems while it was running. Every once in a while the screen would flash back, stay like that for around 20 seconds, revert back to windows, and then go back to black. It would do this til shutdown. I *think* it was changing the resolution. It was about the same wait as it took to change that. And when it did revert back to windows, everything was functional. I googled the problem, found something similar. It recommended I get rid of a start up application via msconfig. That solved that problem for good. Ran fine again for a few weeks.

Now it won't boot. Here's the steps it goes through:
1) Toshiba screen
2) Screen filled with all 0s...I have no clue what this is.
3) Windows XP loading screen
4) Screen flashes yellow, VERY brief. Then it goes to a black screen. And stays there. Until you shut it down.

The laptop DOES boot in safe mode.

I suspect the graphics card might be bad, but that's only because I have NO other explanation. Does anyone have an idea? Sorry for the long explanation.

Thanks in advance for any help!

A:Laptop not booting, possible graphics card issue?

Try Last Known Configuration. If that doesn't work then boot into Safe Mode and uninstall the Display driver and restart. Windows will load the Default VGA driver. Then you can download an updated driver for the display.

I've had my laptop for a little over two years. It's the HP Pavilion dv9535nr, specs in the link.

Since Friday, I've been having some serious issues with the graphics card. When booting up, the HP logo has some vertical yellow lines through it, and all console text has black splotches on the letters. Furthermore, in BIOS, there are grey lines and dots all over the screen. When I boot up to the OS, if I get that far, everything loads in VGA at the lowest possible resolution and color depth. Hardware manager shows that the device is not being used because of an error. This is clearly a hardware issue.

It's been going on like this on and off since last Friday. On Friday, I walked home in the rain with my computer on my back. My computer was in my Swiss Army backpack, and I assure you, nothing in my backpack was even slightly moist. I've been able to do everything I normally do when this loads properly, though sometimes some of the graphics on display are corrupted.

Today, I thought all was lost. Several times, I would close my computer, which should send it into suspend mode. However, when I reopened my computer, it would reboot itself. The third time it did this, I was unable to boot my computer with a functional video card. I tried taking the computer apart to see if I could get a look at the video card, but the screws seem designed to be less persuasive when taking them off, so I didn't get far enough to actually get a look at anything on the... I have been trying unsuccessfully to get help in the Skype forum for a month, as of yesterday. I've had good experiences here so I thought I'd give you guys a shot at this.

Right before my boss went on his last business trip he bought a brand new Lenovo laptop with Win7. He installed Skype to make business calls while abroad, but he couldn't get it to work. It tells him it can't access his sound card (http://i.imgur.com/68HpX.jpg), but when he messes with the settings it sometimes works. He has tried every variation in the settings (checking/unchecking auto-detect, etc) but even when it seems to be fixed it only works once and then starts giving him the error again.

As I said, it's a brand new computer so it should be up to date on drivers. He has also installed all the latest Windows updates. What else can we do?

So I am trying to play a game that functions on one of my graphics options, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M, but doesn't work with my HD Graphics 530. I have seen a ton of people who have full on crashes that happen when they turn off their onboard video card but I don't know if this applies to my integrated graphics. I tried having the program use only the GTX but it still crashes upon start up everytime I try it. Does anyone have any idea what this issue is? A:Dell 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop issue with graphics card

If you look at the recommended hardware for this game, your system doesn't come near meeting the requirements - this game looks to be very demanding, and best run on a system with true dedicated video - i.e., a desktop system or a gaming notebook such as an Alienware.  That doesn't mean it won't run on your system - but you will likely have to seriously throttle back the settings to get it to run.

Hello !

First and foremost please be advised that I have done this before without issue.

Toshiba Satellite laptop L855-S5383
Realtek network card

As stated before, I have done this before. Though its a separate laptop, these two laptops are identicle 100%, I bought them both together at the same time off of tiger direct.

obviously I switched UEFI to CSM and disabled secure boot....the win7 installation is complete.

As I have had to do in the past, I need to install the network card driver, which I saved last time I did this, and it doesn't work. I went to the toshiba website, downloaded several drivers and none of them worked. I am stumped and usually dont have any issues with drivers, but have no clue why I cannot get anything to work. Toshiba is usually great with this, so im thinking it has to be on my end. Could it be that I have a faulty install? ...I don't see how as I already know its a driver issue.

To be as specific as possible it is :

Realtek RTL8723AE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC

Thanks in advance for the time and help !

The computer's a year old, running XP, and my boyfriend and I have no idea what's wrong with it (it's his). I'd put in hardware support but I don't know which piece of hardware may be corrupted, exploding as we speak, or what.

It began last night. He's done this before -- he has two monitors, one meant for a TV (I believe) and another old computer screen. Normally it runs on the TV one because it's bigger. He switched to the older one to show me how he can adjust the settings so that it's all vertical. That was great and dandy and we didn't expect any issues. He's done it before and it really isn't doing much to the computer.

Later, after midnight, he goes to switch everything back to normal. First, the computer acts like the monitor is there but that it can't do anything -- it tries to go into sleep mode or something. Then I suggest he unplug, shut down, plug things back in normally, and power back up. This appears to work.

I was a bit happy then, until we got to the XP loading screen. It's going... and then after, it flashes, then goes black. Nothing comes up, nothing does anything.

And so the three hour saga of last night begins. We restart, we spam F8, we get into safe mode, he disables Nvidia but can't open the application. Nor does his mouse function in safe mode (I know some don't, but it really doesn't help the situation). I've used my laptop to bring up shortcut keys and we're functioning through everything that way. He restarts after disabling Nvidia, an... Read more

Hi guys i've got a problem with my toshiba qosmio g20. I've had it running sweet on xp and i recently upgraded it to vista ultimate lite. It for some reason won't read my graphics card geforce 6600. it says the best driver is already installed for you called standard graphics adapter but thats wrong so i can't play games so im gonna put it back to xp but to do that is a mission. this laptop has raid harddrives so I need to install a driver. so i press f8 or whatever it is(can't remember) to enter the menu thing (this is at the blue screen before you enter the partition menu) it comes up with something like "please enter you manufactuers disk into the A:" but i don't have a floppydrive built in to be able. i've tryed usb floppydrivebut it doesn't read as A: so can use on of them. I've heard about useing nlite to put the drivers in a cd with the rebootstuff but i can't getit to read the drivers too. it was easy enough going to vista as you could insert a flash drive with drivers on it.

Please help me fix this or ill have to take it into a shop and pay them.

Hello forum,
So I just updated my Nvidea graphics card, and for some reason after restarting my laptop, in order to install these files to the system, the "System Thread Exception Not Handled" Blue screen error flashed on my screen, and later redirected me to an automatic repair screen, which attempted to fix this issue.
I ended up restarting the laptop on safe mode, uninstall my Nvidea graphics card and completely reinstall it from scratch.
But for some reason it keeps giving me the same error each time I restart my laptop.
After some research online, apparently there's an issue with Avast and Nvidea?
You will find attached the SF Diagnostic Tool grab all option files needed to view the issue at hand.
Any help would greatly be helpful.
Many are saying that I've not been installing the corrent drivers, but that's not possible, as it's directly from the MSI website (GT70 0NE) linked to the official Nvidea website, saying that the driver includes my graphics card (680M).
While other people are saying that maybe Avast is causing some issue towards the graphics card?
I have the Avast 2014 Professional Antivirus.
Laptop Specs:
Windows 8.1
MSI Dragon Edition 2, GT70 0NE, Intel Core i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40 GHz 64 bit
Intel HD Graphics 4000
Any help would greatly be appreciated, I'm currently running my laptop without the nVidea Graphics Card Drivers, and seems to be fine so far.

Well I just found this forum today, so I decided to ask this question.

About a year ago, I had to system restore, because my computer just kept FSODing on me. When I went through the system restore process with Dell, at the end of the process I got an error. I don't quite remember what it was, as it was so long ago.

Ever since then, my computer has been completely without sound. I have tried everything from installing/reinstalling/uninstalling drivers, to the most simplistic, such as checking if my speakers work, or are connected.

So far, nothing has brought me any closer to figuring out what this problem could be. I am pretty sure that somehow, my sound card (its an integrated one) has just fried or something, but I really dont know.

So... is my sound card busted? Or are my drivers just not working for some reason?

Thanks for your help in advance.

A:Sound Card issue, or driver issue?

System restore . . .

System restore or system recovery? Did wipe the old operating system out and reinstall everything from scratch (system recovery) or did you use Windows' system restore to backdate the configuration. (Frankly, I think the choice these of terms by the industry are very confusing.)

Assuming system recovery and assuming the sound worked before and quit after system recovery, I'm for a misconfiguration. But, the simpler fix might be a cheap add-in sound card.

Okay, I did something really stupid. It was late, I was in the dark, and I wasn't paying attention (obviously) so here's what happened...

I had a SanDisk 2GB Micro SD Memory Card that I was using in my cell phone.
I wanted to transfer some pics & photos from my computer to the phone, so I decided to stick it in the Express Card slot of my laptop. Simple enough, right?

....Well being the incredibly smart person that I am, I put the micro memory card in the adapter, but it was the wrong one. So my computer pretty much swallowed it whole. I can't get it back out.
Now I can't use the Express Card slot in my computer AT ALL, because the old one is still stuck in there. You can't really see it, but if you try to put another adapter in there, it won't "click". It won't go all the way because ... the old one I lost is still in there waiting to be rescued, haha.

So my question is: How do I get the memory card out of my computer??

I tried taking it apart, but I couldn't get the part of where the express card slot is, so that was no good. There's a way to do this, I know. I'm just not smart enough to figure it out on my own. Which is probably a good thing, because I might mess it up again, lol.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S7416 laptop.
Any help is appreciated!

this question pertains to preserving the life of the battery. my old laptop was 6 years old or so, we have been running off the charger for the past 3 years or so rather than replacing the battery, but the new laptop i do not want to run it off the charger. normally it will be booted early morning and shutdown at the end of the day, my question is when we are not actually using it during the day should it be placed in sleep mode, hibernation or just fold the screen down. (this is the only windows forum i'm on that's why i am asking here)

A:laptop battery issue not really a win 8 issue

You're fine to be asking windows 8 and hardware-related questions here

I wouldn't worry about it too much. By the time your battery goes out, it will likely be time to upgrade.

Consider shutting down whenever you leave it for an extended time, such as longer than a day. I think hibernate is the preferred laptop method of low power states because it drains far less than sleep. So you could perhaps keep the computer plugged in while in hibernate, and unplugged while shut down, unless going on a trip or something.

I think HP had a power plan on their laptops that would keep the battery from charging fully to 100% (it would go instead to 50%), which wore it out less than the normal full charge. That may be hard to emulate without a program on your computer for such a plan as that.

ok i just recently have been having problems with any thing graphics related. Ok first off, the other day i was playing need for speed : hot pursuit 2 and it all of a sudden froze, the music was still goin, but then that stoped, and then nothing was doing ne thing, but all of a sudden it started going again, and i kept playing. So that happened a few times and it pissed me off so i stoped playing. So now today i went to play wartcraft III - Throne of darkness and on the main screen as i was selecting an option it just froze up like need for speed did. Now i thought this was really bad and i started to get angry. So i quit and then restarted, but that didn't fix any thing it just froze a little while into the game.

So now i decided to re install war3 and the expansion but nope still nothing. Then i tried using differnet drivers fo my vid card and still no. So I started to try out other games, such as cs and still that game froze up once i was actually playin in the game. Then i quit, did restore thing to an earlier point and still same thing happened.

Now tonight after all my struggles i reinstalled windows, totally new(format and everything). With no luck it still froze up

Now i have been talking to other ppl and they say this has to be a graphics card problem, now i have a geforce TI 4200 and have enjoyed it performance, untill now. IT is only one year old so it shouldn't be dying of age yet.

Is this a hardware issue you think and the card is just dying of old... Read more

So. I had a 64gb micro SD with music in for my mp3. Acquired some more music on a usb from my brother (legitimately bought) and though hey! I'll sort all my music out to folders and delete duplicates. You know how it gets. So after this. Thought I'd get a 256gb micro SD and put all my music on this (we're talking 59gb). So started the transfer. Said 10 hours. Yh yh fine. Then at the end. All the folders were there. But we're empty. So formatted it. Moved the folders bit by bit alphabetically. At the end as i safely eject it. It says corrupted and the same folders there with no content. So thought Instead of transferring from my laptop to my micro SD. I'll bypass the laptop and go from my external HDD to the micro SD. Transferred my music to the HDD then over the the micro SD. No problem first stage. And a faster transfer to the micro SD. And yet again when i eject it and insert into my mp3. Only 800 odd songs there instead of 12000 and the folders are again present but empty. Please help. I've wasted hours of my life on this!

Hello again friends.

I got a TV tuner card for X-Mas. (If you dont have one I recommend you get one. ) I keep getting a warning prompt advising me to enable DMA in my hard drive, so I finally broke down and enabled it. Upon rebooting, I no longer can drop and drap onto/from the desktop. Not to mention, the number of times I hard to hard-reboot my Pc to finally get to windows.

What is up with this? And what in the heck is DMA?!

You might want to look here (or do a Google search). It appears you may have a DMA channel conflict.

I have a computer with ASUS A7V333 MB. The monitor went dead one day and found that I'd neglected to keep the dust cleaned out and found the vid card fan in pretty bad condition. I cleaned everything out inside, then rebooted, but the monitor was not working again, getting "no Signal" on the screen or such. I looked at the vid card fan and noticed it was not moving, so used my finger to nudge it and it started up and the monitor worked. Had to do this every day upon starting up. I found a tech article on how to take apart the fan to clean it and relube the shaft, but was unable to do this. I shopped around for a reasonably cheap card and got a GeForce 6200 LE 512mb AGP 8x card. When I put it in, nothing happened. I've checked the monitor and its plug/pins, as it works in my other computer. I read some other articles about changing something related to the vid card in bios, but I can't get to the screen to do that.

I'm wondering if there are any other ideas of what might be the problem without taking it into the shop, as I am unemployed and very tight on money. I've got sensitive data and projects on my computer that I have not backed up and am not wanting to take into the tech shop. My fault for not backing up the last month's work. Can a diagnostic check be done if I remove the hard drive to protect my creative work? My MB is from 2002 and it could be the AGP socket is going bad? Don't know if that happens or not. There's al... Hello- just got a new Radeon 3870. When I installed, I just downloaded the latest ATI drivers instead of using the bundled CDs, as they are usually out of date. Everything works fine, except in my device manager I get an unknown PCI device that I can only assume is the new card. I guess it isn't too big a deal, but I would like to make windows recognize the drivers if possible. Thanks!

Oh and it also claims to have an unknown multimedia controller, but my sound works fine (audigy 4). Maybe its the onboard sound controller?

A:New ATI card issue

Multimedia controllers are usually sound or TV adapters or similar.
Check the display adapters in device manager to see if it is listed.
It may be that the secondary display on the card doesn't have the driver
installed, but I would guess it is something else.
Right click on the uknown device and click properties.
Click the driver tab and click update driver.
Let windows search for a driver.
If it's the video card,it should find it.

Can't get to the internet. I think my internal onboard one is bad do I bought another one. These are the things I have tried. I tried switching out the cable for a new one, I tried putting the cable from my computer from my PC to the modem directly and no go. I reset both my modem and router waiting minute or 2 in between. I tried a new card. I had linksys on the phone trying multiple things like disabling my NIC card, doing a repair, install drivers from their site over internet. I tried pinging my router to no avail.

I am at a loss. That is why I am wondering if I put in my XP cd and try and do a system restore? I don't know if that comes set up to run by default or is that something I manually would of had to of done because I didn't. If so, would re-installing the OS do the trick? I just did an image copy of my OS this past sunday with Acronis true image 2009. Should I try that? what do you think?

Again, thanks for your help.

Hi There,

I'm trying to figure out if my sound card has gone bad. I have the red X of death on my speaker icon and the message "no audio output device is installed".

I have no option in the Device Manager for sound, video, and gaming devices.

I have no drivers on the machine and when I try to install the appropriate one, I'm told I have no device to install it on.

I'm assuming that the sound card has just finally died, however due to the frequent problem with Windows updates and the red X of death on the speaker icon, I figured I'd ask one of you more seasoned IT peeps.

Machine is an IBM thinkcentre A70z

Hey guys. I work in an IT department at a rather large facility doing desktop support. Recently myself and a couple of the other guys in the department have come across 10-15 machines that all are sharing this problem. The network cards are working fine one day, then the next day they are showing up under the "Unknown Device" category in the Device Manager. The interesting thing is that the name of the card still shows up fine, it is just under the Unknown Device category with the exclamation next to it. We have tried everything we can think of with no luck. We uninstalled and reinstalled the device, swapped in new NIC cards under different PCI slots, ran spybot and ad aware, all of the machines are protected by Trend Antivirus and are not showing any viruses, we even did Windows repairs and its not working. This is happening on both 2000 and XP machines that are fully patched. The only way we have been able to fix this and get connectivity back to the machines is by doing over the top windows installs or formatting and starting over completely. Has anyone else ran across this and know of a better fix?

Hello TSG.

First off, I think I should start by saying my PC specs:
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2, .Net Framework 1.1 and 2.0, 32 bit
Processor: AMD Sempron, 2600+, 1.6GB GHZ
RAM: 512mb + 1GB tablet
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon x550, 256MB (I know, old)
Hard Drives: C: Total - 30GB, Free - 8GB; D: Total - 45GB, Free - 44GB;
I've been having some trouble since last friday.

I thought of adding all what I did, but it'd be long and unnecesesary. I'll just post what I did after formating.
I was getting some blue screens saying that ati2dvag.dll was stanked on a infinite loop. After a lot of unsuccessful fixes, I formatted my Hard Drives (which explains why I have so much free space).

Now after I installed the ATI latest driver, my computer keeps crashing. It doesn't crash on secure mode though. I don't see any blue screen now though, the computer just freezes, screen goes black for a second, and when the image comes back, the graphic card is not working right anymore (I know this because the image refreshes much slower). Or it just freezes permanently.

I tried older display drivers, like 8.1 and 9.1, HECK, even 5.2. None of them made a difference.

I'm so tired... I've spent hours and hours on this... I also lost everything I had when I formatted...

Please, help me...

EDIT: Did I put this in the right section? I'm new so I'm not really sure o.o

I've been having some performance issues with my graphics card, NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT, ever since installing Windows 7. When watching movies/shows on certain sites, specifically Hulu.com, and enlarging the video to fullscreen, the videos become choppy.

I was using XP Pro before making the switch and I never had any issues like this before. I'm going out on a limb and thinking that my current card is just not up to par for Windows 7 (especially since that Windows experience rating system has my graphics capability pretty low) and I need to upgrade...again.

Basically, I'm asking for suggestions on what I should be looking at. I'm not a gamer, the most I need out of my video card is to be able to watch movies and videos on my HDTV.

If you haven't installed the driver for the card, it'l cause all those things to happen.

The radeon hd 4670 is a pretty solid card for the price. It doesn't use that much power so there's no worry about upgrading your psu.

Is you Windows install fully patched and up to date?
What version of Windows are you using?
Are all your drivers fully up to date?
What are you system temperature and voltages like, use HWMonitor to check.
