Dell Inspiron 13 7000 - Runs diagnostic mode after waking from sleep

Q: Dell Inspiron 13 7000 - Runs diagnostic mode after waking from sleep

Hello,
This 2-in-1 laptop is starting diagnostic mode after waking from sleep. It's not doing this after a reboot but only after being asleep.
Once the diagnostic runs (without errors), I'm able to use the machine again. It's more inconvenient than anything else.
Is this just a sign of failing hardware? I ask because it's also having audio issues, for which I've already started another thread in the Audio forum.
Please help and thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After the last automatic driver update the screen gets gray fuzzy after waking from sleep. Other people are also getting the same problem (see this forum). The problem seems to be happening only with this laptop in particular and, therefore, I ask Dell for help.
Please don't tell me to rollback the driver and edit the registry to stop automatic updates.

I purchased a Inspiron 17 7000 (7737) with Windows 8.0.
I changed the hard drive for a Crucial M500 900gigs and installed Windows 8.1 Pro. I installed all Dell drivers for 8.1 and I don't have any unknown devices.
My problem is one the laptop goes in sleep mode, I can't allways wake it up. Moving Wireless mouse or touching keyboard or mouse pad, or power button doesn't wake it up. Other times, just moving the mouse works well.
I  changed power setting to not go into sleep mode, only turn off the screen, but it happened again.
I know that Microsoft Update is proposing a new driver for the nvidia 750, but not sure if I should install it.

A:Inspiron 7737 (17 7000) sleep mode problem

I call Dell support and she explained that sleep mode is a state that last around 30 minutes and then after, it goes into deeper sleep mode. At such point, I have to press power button until the laptop turns off. Then restart the laptop. I argued that is like pulling the power cord on a desktop and opened documents won't be save. She said that Dell recommends saving before leaving the laptop unattended.
I disabled sleep mode for the laptop and screen, to fix the problem.
I said I was going to install Windows 8.1 and asked about the installation order for installing the drivers. She left for a moment and return saying to follow the order listed on the web site. I said where is that mentioned. She said to look at the list of available drivers and that would be the order to follow. I said, I don't want to argue with you but this is an alphabetical order, nothing else. She kept saying that was the order.
In reality, I knew that was't true nor logical. While installing the drivers, I got three drivers that failed until I updated the nvidia driver. But by Dell's knowledgeable technicians, "V" stand for video and last item to install. Seriously!
But the call was not a waste of time as I asked for the way both HD 4000 and Nvidia GPU works, since Windows use only the Intel HD 4000. She explained that base on needed performances, Windows use either one. That decision process is managed by software. I didn't get to point of testing that fact.

About three months ago, my wife noticed the laptop was crashing when she'd wake it up.  The error was "Bad Pool Header."   It would reboot and everything worked fine.  I couldn't find anything online about it and I was tired of being haunted with the Windows 10 upgrade.  So I went ahead and upgraded the laptop to Windows 10 hoping the issue would resolve itself.    It didn't.  I received the same error.
Today I took some time and researched the error some more and tried to contact Dell Support.   That didn't go so well.   Since I bought a refurbished unit from Amazon, the laptop is still registered to someone else.  They won't talk to me until the warranty information is updated.  (That's a separate battle I'm fighting with Amazon.)
Anyways, I'd love to restore the laptop to the original settings but the laptop doesn't have a DVD drive nor does it have a restore partition.  There is also no recovery image saved on the drive.   So, I'm stuck unless there is a way to find out what is causing the bluescreening.
When I was troubleshooting today, I had the system checked and there was one update that installed for the chipset.   After the chipset update was installed, the issue remained, but the error changed.  "System Service Exception"    The laptop reboots and it returns to normal.

Hi Dave,
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/24FHltP
And reinstall the chipset drivers manually from the same site above.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. Also, run an extended / thorough test on the memory and HDD.
Run a stress test on the system - http://dell.to/1NEc1Y4
The system is compatible to work with Win10. If you are keen to restore the system to W8.1 - then see this link - http://bit.ly/1RMaCdK
If you have the invoice of the purchase, which states the service tag of the system - not a paypal receipt, then you could transfer the warranty ownership online here - http://dell.to/1KpVTpc
Write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I got a Dell Inspiron R15 5521 with Windows 10.   The power button on my computer has a tendency to get stuck and thus I am trying to minimize the times that I need to use it.
Is there a way for me to wake the computer up with the mouse or keyboard from sleep mode?
I can currently wake it up from sleep by closing and opening the lid but not by using the mouse or lid.  I have already checked to ensure that I have the latest drivers for both the keyboard and the mouse.  I have also checked their setting and could not find any power management options on my computer.
In addition, I would like know if I can wake the computer up from hibernate mode with mouse, keyboard or lid.
Thanks!

Dear Readers,
I've been having some trouble with my newly bought laptop. I have been using it for about 2 months (daily) and recently a problem has occurred. Namely, when my laptop goes in standby mode, and I turn it on, the screen shows colored/grey stripes.
I have already looked if it did the same when in the BIOS, this showed nothing strange. Also, when I attached my laptop to another screen during the occurring problem, it showed the normal screen on the external screen and I could execute everything.
I would appreciate a little help with this problem. Please let me know if you have any solution in mind.

This is a recent problem I ran into with my new 7559. About a week ago I did a factory reset because the speakers were having a problem, and it worked fine for a couple days. Afterwards it would go into this flickering loop after it would wake up from sleep. This makes it so anytime I'm not using the laptop I basically have to shut it down, which really ***. I've posted a link of what the issue looks like. I ran the dell hardware test and my computer passed, and I also updated my drivers so I don't know what else to do. Thank you to anyone who can shed some light on what's happening.

Hello Everyone, I have a customer who has a Dell Inspiron 1545, and it goes to sleep randomly.

Here is what it is doing:

When typing a document in Microsoft Office, Word Document, and even Notepad the computer will power down into sleep mode

It won't lose it's data, but it won't let you boot up for a little bit either.
It will boot back to a login screen then your right where you left off
Doesn't take a long time for it to happen either

While hosting a presentation user was able to stay on for 1.5 hours with no trouble, much longer than typing a word document would have allowed
Computer will cut off on battery, or while plugged in

I'm not sure what's causing the issue, but here is what I have done

Taken the laptop apart, and blown it clear of all dust (very little in there)
Ran Disk Cleanup (Despite thinking it's hardware related)
Checked that the Power plan was optimal
Scanned for Viruses

Anyone have suggestions?
Thanks

A:Dell Inspiron 1545 Goes into Sleep mode randomly

You won't believe what I'm about to say, but ask your customer if he/she has a magnetic wrist band on the left hand. DELL laptops have a sensor on the left side - and if you touch it with a magnet the result will be the sleep mode without any obvious reason. So naturally there would be no trouble with showing a presentation since in that case you hardly touch your laptop.
I had the same problem and I was completely sure there's something very wrong with my very new laptop. Turns out my computer was just fine. Now I'm sitting with the same wrist band on my right hand and everything is fine.

When I try to put my Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop into sleep mode, the screen goes dark and it looks like it's going to sleep. But the power button stays lit, and the two small outer edge lights on the front display stay lit. I can hear the motor whirring too, and it's clear the laptop is actually on and using/losing power. I am unable to get it out of sleep mode. A long press of the power button will get the computer powered up, but I am immediately taken to the "Windows did not shut down correctly" screen, and given the option to start windows normally or in safe mode.

To fix the problem, I've tried doing a system restore to a restore point before the problem started. That didn't fix it. Today I scanned the hard drive, motherboard and various other hardware, and everything passed. I did a virus scan and no threats were found. Any ideas what's going on and what I can do to fix the issue?

Specs for the laptop: Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1, 64 bit, 6 GB RAM, Inter Core i5.

A:Dell Inspiron N5110 does not go into sleep mode, loses power

How long has the problem been going on? If it's within the time you have available System Restore point try rolling it back.

Sleep problems are mostly Display driver issues, so make sure your driver is up to date: First enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) to run all Important and Optional Windows Updates, with reboots, until there are no more when you check..

Then check the Dell Support page for your Tag number to try the latest driver there.

If all available drivers don't work, then work through these Sleep Mode Problems - Vista Forums.

Establish a Clean Boot, check for errors at time of Sleep in logs, utilize System Resources from the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

You can troubleshoot Sleep issues in Power Options by setting Sleep to 1 minute and Hibernate to 2 minutes to observe these timeouts behavior. I'd also try manually Sleeping and Hibernating from the Shut Down button. You want to test Hibernate too because it is an even better method to Sleep.

If all else fails trace the cause by Gathering a Startup, Shutdown, Sleep, Hibernate, or Reboot Trace - Windows 7 Forums

You'd need to sell the system and buy the new one.  The "extra bit" of money will likely be more than a bit, as used computers will sell for 30-50% of what they did new -- warranty or not.

I have owned this laptop 2 Days. Was a gift from my mom.
Here is the issue:
The PC is running windows 10 home:
When I received the PC I installed the Windows 10 Anniversary update.
I set it up. That said I began installing some of my apps.
I set my POWER SETTINGS to have the Computer go into SLEEP mode when I close the lid.
OK. I did that on my way home from My Meeting  where I used it for over 2 hours.
When I opened the laptop when I got home NOTHING...Hit the Power switch...NOTHING...
Finally....I tried holding the power switch and the VOLUME switch and it FINALLY started up in DIAGNOSTIC MODE.
It says these tests would take 4 hours?? EXIT FAST: IT was already 11pm ....The computer restarted....OK...that's good.
Went to support page and had it check MEMORY, HARD DRIVE and Processor: ALL GOOD.
INSTALLED software to customize DRIVER installation to what needed to be updated:
Graphics driver and Chipset Driver installed. Great...
Tried the laptop...restarted, closed the lid--opened it....instant on WOOHOO....
NEXT:
Closed the lid and WENT to BED.
This morning OPENED THE LID NOTHING....NO STAR UP. Push Power button...NOTHING
HOLD power button: NOTHING....PLUG IN... Let it sit.....push power button NOTHING...
Then: a few minutes more...Started FINALLY.
QUESTION: WHY Doesn't  the computer start after a LONG sleep? WEIRD.
I thought the advantage of windows 10 was instant on??
Start Splaining: SOMEONE please or this is going back.
Thank you!!!!!

I've been using this Windows 7 Home system for some years. At first it used the CRT monitor I had for much longer than this system, then a used LCD monitor, now for the last six or eight months a larger used, but seemingly in excellent condition, Dell E228WFP.

My habit has been, for much longer than I've had the Win7 system, to manually put the system in sleep mode during the day when I expect to be away for any extended time. I turn it off if I will definitely be away for hours and turn it off over night.

The problem did not exist until this Dell monitor. I don't recall how soon after getting the monitor it started, probably not very long.

The system always come up working properly when first turned on but sometimes, when I awaken the system, the video is at a much lower resolution. Looking at the Windows Screen resolution, it says generic PNP monitor rather than the Dell. This is an annoyance but easy enough to fix, just click on Detect, and it switches back to the Dell at the higher resolution, the recommended 1680 X 1050, which is enough to suit me.

Starting perhaps six or eight weeks ago it sometimes instead woke up with a message
1: auto detect (analog input)
Cannot display this video mode
optimum resolution 1680 x 1050 60Hz

Sometime the first line instead says
2: Analog Input

The only way to get any video is to restart the system, which always came up correct from boot or reboot, just not from reawaken. If nothing was open when I put it to sleep, I can use the k... Read more

My system goes to sleep after 20 minutes just the way I want it.
The problem comes from waking it up to perform scheduled tasks.
I run a weekly scan using McAfee which doesn't wake up my system, so I have to come up with a method of making sure my machine is awake at the scheduled time.
I also run a scheduled backup of my system, so the impact is felt here too.
Currently before the scheduled tasks run, I change my power setting to never go to standby (I forget the actual phrase, but you know what I mean), but that seems drastic. There must be a way of waking up my maching prior to a scheduled event then after the event go back to sleep.
Any help out there??

When my computer wakes up from sleep mode all the fans start turning and everything seems to power up but nothing shows up on the screen. After a few hard reboots the system will start up and run extremely slow for a minute, and then be fine. That is until it sleeps again. I know the simple fix would be just to never let it sleep but for power saving reasons I use this mode.

Go into device manager and see if all your drivers are installed and there are no problems there. I would also run a windows 7 update. I believe that is a hotfix from MS that is intended to fix the issue and it should be available in the windows 7 updates.

I have purchased a brand-new desktop with Windows 8. After setting up and playing around with Power Options, I had set my computer to 1)turn the display off after 10 minutes 2)put the computer to sleep after 15 minutes and 3)require a password upon wakeup. Everything worked how it was supposed to.

Last night, my friend and I replaced the stock PSU with a more powerful one I bought online. I'm not very tech-savvy so I was just happy my computer powered on and everything seemed to be working fine. I was wrong.

When my computer goes to sleep (timer or forced), I can no longer wake it up with my keyboard or mouse (wireless set) as I was able to before. I have to hit the power button on the tower. That seems to be the only problem as of right now...but last night it was doing even weirder things. Last night I set the sleep timer to 1 minute so that I could test whatever was going on. After a minute, the display would turn off but the fan and fan lights on the tower would still be running. It would not wake with the keyboard or mouse, and when I hit the power button on the tower it would shut off. I can't remember if it was resuming from sleep or booting up when I pressed the button a second time...

I don't know what changed but at least the computer is waking up from sleep now. Any ideas about how to fix the mouse/keyboard problem? I don't know how changing the PSU affected all this...like I said I don't know much about the inner workings of a computer so I hope I didn't mess a... Read more

My custom computer doesn't wake up from sleep mode whenever I try to wake it up. It's a problem that started a few weeks ago, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to resolve it. I tried everything I've could, and I think I might have a lead. I was able to wake the computer up from sleep mode only once after changing the power settings in device manager for the Human Interface Devices, Keyboards, Mice, and USB, along with turning off Window's 10 sleep mode via the Command Prompt. For some reason, trying to change the power options again doesn't get sleep mode working for me again. If anyone has a better idea as to the actual problem I'm facing, please let me know what I can do.

Hi, I hope this is the right forum.

Sleep mode not working properly. When i close the lid, or select sleep, and then try to resume, the computer turns off instead. Upon restarting i get the error message "Windows did not shut down correctly" (as shown in the attached photo)

I have scoured these forums and have tried various solutions which do not work.

Some of the things that i have tried which i can remember:

Double checked all the power settings
Checked the device manager and under "USB Controllers", where there is a "USB Root Hub" under "power management" i have deselected "allow this computer to turn off this device to save power"
Turning off hybrid mode
Any other ideas?

Would love to solve this problem, really annoying.

A:Not waking from sleep mode properly

first enter your BIOS and make sure that ACPI power state is set to S3 and hardware settings are set to wake with 'any key' and/or mouse (mousepad) or 'lid opening' (not sure if this setting exists as I don't use laptops)--after booting--check to see that your screen saver is set to 'none'

then change your power plan to High Performance (you can edit this later to save your battery)--then edit the plan settings to match the screen shots (note: the settings shown in the first screen shot for 'turn off display' and 'put computer to sleep')--IF this works--then try editing one setting at a time (testing) to see which works for power saving (put machine to sleep--wait a minute or so as win 7 doesn't sleep instantly)--then wake it, to see how a changed setting affects the function)

Hello all, I'm having a headache of a time trying to keep my computer from re-booting after sleep mode. My computer wakes but goes directly to BSOD. I used the app Bluescreenview and it points to this file ntoskrnl.exe generating this this bug check string: (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION).
I dont know what software this file is associated with, but I've searched on this forum and found this it to be a real problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Asamp

A:BSOD after waking from sleep mode

It seems that I solved my own problem. I read on another board that the Win7 o/s has bugs using sleep mode after 4gb of memory, and I have 8gb. So, I set everything up using hibernation mode, and no more bsod.

Any advice. All my graphics drivers are up to date. I do have a second hdd with Windows 7 hooked up to the mb. Could it be a power issue? Any takers?

Hi, as the title says ive been having repeated problems with Sleep Mode, i have set ACPI Standby State to S3 & there are no overclocking settings enabled, it could be related to my hardrive, i have three with one being an SSD (Samsung 840 Pro 128gb) that has the OS, (Samsung HD103SJ) & (Samsung HD753LJ) for storage, the driver is the latest one, im also using a Gigabyte EP35-DS3R with a custom Bios F5 update that Gigabyte sent me to help fix an error with sleep mode a few years back before i upgraded to an SSD, its known to be buggy when overclocking as it can cycle thru wake up / sleep when overclocking but i dont bother with that anyway GA-EP35-DS3R Rev.2.1 - NOT GOING TO OVERCLOCK. - AnandTech Forums

By going into bios & resetting Stanby State to S3 seems to fix it but after a while the BSOD returns

Included is the Zip file containing the logs

Also when i reboot, by pressing delete it doesn't always load up the Bios screen but instead the Windows Safety Mode?

Usually I get this when waking up from sleep mode. I've gotten BSODs randomly as well, not really doing anything.

I've tested my RAM, and torture tested my CPU and GPU and they seem solid.

Any ideas?

When I configured the Metro e-mail program on my laptop the system announced that it was increasing the security settings on my computer. (Thanks for nothing for not telling me what changes were being made). Afterwards, the laptop goes into sleep mode if unattended for more than 10 minutes. In Control Panel/Power Options I have indicated that the laptop should go into Sleep mode after 4 hours, whether plugged in or on battery. Why does the system ignore this setting?

Also, when the laptop is awakened from Sleep mode, the system requires me to enter my password again. In Control Panel/Power Options/System Settings the "Password protection on wake-up" setting is set to "Don't require a password" . Why is the OS ignoring this setting?

A:Logon on waking from sleep mode

Some advanced settings may need adjustment,
try Control Panel > Power Options > ((Change when the computer sleeps) Edit Plan Settings) > Change advanced power settings > then edit the sub menus from the + plus sign sub settings

Recheck to see if any changes have been applied.
Recheck any changes after a logoff, shutdown or reboot.

Twice in recent days, my monitor was unresponsive when I tried to wake it up from sleep mode. I had to shut it down and restart it. What could be causing this problem, and what should I do about it? My monitor is very old--it isn't even a flatscreen.

My PC is going into the sleep/hibernation mode and will not wake up. The power button has to be pushed - then the computer wakes up exactly where it went to sleep. I have followed all the advice I have found and have run the Power Efficiency Diagnostics Report - but I don't know what to do with it now.
Can someone please help me?
Thank You
