video slow, jumpy, and not in sync

Q: video slow, jumpy, and not in sync

HI , I was given an older computer to revamp for my brother. He is on a disability income and I want to burn him some video files to watch .. have some old family movies. It is an older computer with a Celeron 466 processor, and integrated video and sound. The video shares ram . I have assigned it 64 megs of ram and have installed 256 megs total . It is running windows 98SE. Is there any hope of getting divx video or mpeg video to run smoothly on here ? If so would my best bet be trying to install a separate video card, adding more ram , upgrading the cpu , all of the above? I need to do this the least inexpensive way possible please. I know my last pc before the one I built was a 533 and it could play video without this difficulty as long as I didn't run other things at the same time. PS have also tried putting the video on the hard drive and still get pauses in the video and then the sound isn't in sync.
Thank you very much.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I uninstalled several dvd conversion programmes on the 18 dec 08, They did not work and then installed one that did. After this my pc ran very slow, sound from online bbc radio was distorted and online videos would not play without jumping, firefox was very slow to load in fact any programme i tried to load was very slow and i occasionally had a crash. I tried cc cleaner, norton and several other registry cleaners but other than telling me that i had a problem and saying they had been fixed, the problem remained. I also uninstalled as many programmes as i could including itunes, google earth etc.etc. I cannot play itunes without distortion. I reset to an earlier date but this was on the 18th and could not go back further. My pc is an Acer Aspire 1640z with xphome and service pack 3. It's time to replace it but I would like to keep it going a little longer. I am reluctant to do a system restore as I'm not too savvy. Can anybody suggest a solution that a none too technical person like me, could try?

Main problems: Programs take a while to start-up, windows takes a while to start-up, all icons on desktop take a while to appear when starting up (just generic icon for a while until computer actually starts responding), video and audio is choppy.Already went through the Malware attempts and disk scanning, defragging, and all that:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...p;#entry1586320Not sure if it's software or hardware related as I'm not sure what CPU temperatures I should be expecting and the computer has always run hot.The previous HD on this computer got borked and ended up getting a new one thats much bigger and faster (7200 vs 5400). So far from all the different hardware testing programs everything seems to be passing.Any ideas? It's been driving me crazy and sure is making it hard to get work done. Thanks!

I use my computer for TV viewing rather than having a seperate TV card. The problem is that it loses syncronisation with the audio every so often.

I am currently using WinDVR as my viewer, My Nvidia 7950GT for capture (TiVO), and at the moment I have the audio from my digital box sent straight to my 5.1 surround system as my PC does not seem to decode Pro Logic signals and output to AC3.

I have not seeked help with WinDVR since the problem is not just limited to that software, the same thing happens when watching AVI within Media Player for example (In which case, the sound output is coming from my PC)

The only clue I can find is that the mouse pointer appears to jump every so often. The mouse is not even switched on when this happens. This is not a Mainboard or BIOS issue since it did it before I got this board. It also cannot be an issue with my Graphics card as my old one did it as well...

Filemon shows nothing out of the ordinary when this occurs, Neither does Regmon. There is nothing in system logs! I have tested for spyware using Ad-Aware, Spybot and Windows Defender... Everything looks clean and I should also be clean from viruses...

If anyone can help?

Whenever I am playing PC games (eg. Sims, Tycoon games) I notice that my video is jumpy, or it pauses as if it is buffering. I have more than enough memory (1GB) in my system. Windows XP Pro. My hard drive is a 180GBB which was recently defraged. My CPU is a 2.6 Celeron. My video right now is an Intel integrated adapter. I also noticed that my CPU usage is at 100% when the game is active. My question is if this is a CPU or a Video problem? I am thinking of purchasing an 128MB AGP Video Card. Another thing is that the game is running from the CD-ROM. Any suggestions.
P.S. I have my system setup for Best Performance.

I have followed thoroughly various tutorials for setting up OBS for streaming. Initially I had set it up for Youtube, then switched to Twitch. This works fine. I have absolutely no complaint with that. Streaming out to these platforms is working as I would like.
This issue I'm experiencing is what I can best describe as a pulsing or jumping, about once per second when I play a file back that I have recorded (not streamed) with OBS.

The audio is flawless, no stuttering, nothing like that. Audio BR is at 160...

As I watch the status information in OBS as I am recording, I see no warning about overloaded encoder, the frame rates are where they are supposed to be, no dropped frames. everything should appear to be good. CPU load is unremarkable, again plenty of headroom. It doesn't seem to matter if I increase bit rate, decrease bit rate, CBR, VBR, increase or decrease framerate, or which software i use to view the output fine: VLC, WMP, whatever, there is this pulsing. Its just enough to be annoying. Its subtle, but it's there. And it doesn't matter which PC I play the file on ( I have a few I can test it with)

The computer running OBS is more than adequate for the task.

I have - in an effort to improve things - changed recording format, changed encoder, even the location to which I was saving it ( initially that was a network drive, but I change to an internal SSD for test purposes) I can not get rid of this.

This is just for a little pet project, I ... Read more

Hello everyone,

Had an issue upon the laptop loading up for 24hrs now and I think is has something to do with Windows Backup!?

I have a little flag with a red X on it and it says you have one problem

Check you backup (important)

when I click on it its comes up with "The request could not be performed because of an I/0 device error"

"Try to run backup again"
"Change backup settings"

When I click "Try to run backup again" it comes up with (after attemping) "The last backup did not complete successfully"

Click on "Change backup settings" it just allows me to pick the same backup as there is only one choice my E:DVD .

Also noticed I have no System restore point either...

Now the slow start could have nothing to do with this but i have no idea.

Thanks if you help.

Hi Egerton87,

Do you have a desktop or laptop computer? Is an external hard-drive connected to your computer at the moment for backup purposes? Did this issue all of a sudden started happening?

I recommend testing your hard-drive for any errors. Go to the manufacturer's website of your computer hard-drive and download the "Diagnostics Utility". Put the program onto a CD and boot the computer to the CD. Follow the on-screen instructions and test the HDD for any errors.

One other thing, can your computer boot into safe mode? If so, does the computer work fine in safe mode?

So I've got the common problem that many people face...too many people in my family who think they know everything about computers and that they aren't the problem. Well I don't know everything myself but know much more than most my family. I've already run Spybot and Adaware and removed some stuff...I'm about ready to remove Norton off of this box as I hate it. Hi all,

I have a .VOB file that I just burned onto a DVD+R using Roxio's MyDVD application. But when I watch the resulting video on my DVD player, it looks pretty 'jumpy'.

Any ideas what might be causing this? The source file, the MyDVD application, my DVD player?
For what it's worth, I'm burning at 16x and video quality is set to HQ (High Quality), and my system is Windows XP.

Thanks for your help,

I video conference speeches and process them to VCD format. I capture video on miniDV tape or directly on computer using 1394 (firewire) port. I take audio seperately from mixer into computer using 'audacity' or 'accoustica' program. I use Ulead Video Studio 8 to match video & audio and then process it. These 2 streams match well in the begining, but then these go out of sync by upto 5 sec. Need help urgently.

Using Core2Duo desktop, 4 GB DDR2 RAM (800MHz FSB), SATA Hard Disk 7200 rpm.

A:Audio-video out of sync in video processing in Ulead Video Studio

The problem is that the framerates are a little bit different and there is no keyframe info for each to keep themselves in sync.

In fact some media companies deliberately introduce keyframe errors so that conversion prgrams and the like don't keep the video and audio in sync.

I'm still waiting for a good solution myself but at least you know you're not the only one with the problem by a long shot.

I have done everything i can think of (disk defrag, clean registry, analyzed my ram, deleted programs i dont use, cleaned up broken links and done virus scans), but nothing seems to help. What kind of reasons could there be for this lag. When i look at my resource monitor it shows my hard disk usage as off the charts. Have recently un-installed my ATI Radeon x1300 video driver because it caused endless problems and re-installed the NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE that my computer (Dell C521, Vista Ultimate 64-bit) originally came with, plus a recommended NVIDIA update. And, by the way, I use an ATI Theater 650 Pro card, 32 bit version with Media Center.

Problem: old TV recordings (from the ATI Radeon days) work perfectly. With new recordings, as well as live TV, the pictures and sound jump from one frozen 1-2 second episode to the next. Sound the same thing. Is there a setting in the NVIDIA control panel, that could fix this, or is it something else??

Thank you in advance for your help.

I'm not sure which category to post this in, but I really need help!!!!
For about a week or so, all videos I've been trying to watch online (from YoutTube, to Tumblr, etc) are out of sync. The video is always ahead of the audio. However, after a few seconds of this, the video completely stops playing (both video and audio). I pause and try to play it again, but nothing will happen. So I bring the video back to the beginning, and it will run for an extra 3 or so seconds, with the video and audio still out of sync. I really don't know what to do. If it's any help, I use Windows 10 (not sure if that has anything to do with it though).
Any suggestions?

when i play videos on windows media player, it goes out of sync after the 'commercials/break'. the commercials have been edited out and the show cuts straight back in as if there were no commercials. but it seems to only go out of sync after when the commercial would have been.

It does this little weird distorted pixel thing for about 2 secs after every commercial too, and then carries on but out of sync.

ive been watching these shows for ages but its only recently decided to go all weird.
maybe theres a codec that could sort this out?!

any ideas?

A:Out of sync video

How was the video captured and how where commercials cut out? If captured to tape media first, a lose of "control track" can cause a lose of time code. If this occurs the video and audio may be out of sync when captured on computer. I have seen this when capturing from dvcam tapes that begin to wear out. A "glitch" on the tape causes an interuption to the time code ,when captured on comp. there is a lose of sync. If commercial were cut out via tape pause then record, this can occur. If same video file has played correctly in the passed, the lose of control track may have corrupted the file. Some players are more tolerant than others, maybe try anther player like Divx player. You may also be able to correct this via video editng software.

Hello, I've searched the forum but haven't found any solution for my problem.

The problem is, my tv doesn't sync with the friggin' 30i Hz, but that's the only frequency shown in every single menu that I've found. I have an ATI Radeon HD2600 XT Graphic card with the latest catalyst drivers.
All that i get is some wild lines dancing. It's almost like they're provoking me! lol
Any suggestions?

Sorry if this is a repeated questin, but i really haven't found anything to solve this and I'm almost throwing my tv off the window! lol

Hi guys - i managed to get my hands on a copy on the animatrix, the quality and sound are 10 / 10 however, they seem to be out of sync. The file is split into two different parts and at the beginning the file is in sync, but over the time of the two files it gradually seems to flip out and go out of sync. Can anyone help me figure out how i can line up the audio and video, and how i might go about doing it ?

To start with I know very little about computers hence, the reason for this posting. I know that my computer is on its way out and will be purchasing a new one within the next few months. However, I still need to view some shows for my online class and enjoyment (PBS). The problem is that the audio and video are not in sync (voice before movement of mouth) and the video is choppy (also video will continue to play after clicking to pause). I use Explorer for my browser and I will add my PC information below.

i had a tv series in .rvbm and used Any Video Converter from download.com to convert it to .wmv to play on my xbox 360. i didn't watch the videos ahead of time to check if it had the problem before, but playing on either my computer or the 360, the video goes slightly slower than the audio. each episode starts off fine but ends up at least 5 seconds behind in the end. i checked other videos on my computer, so i know it is a file problem and not just my computer. is there anything i can do to remedy the offset video?

I'm having an annoying problem with lip synchronisation in my home movies. The video files are fine, it's after I burn to DVD where the problem is apparent. How could this be? Do any of you video buffs know what's going on here? There is no separate sound track or anything, I simply load into into Ulead Videostudio, edit the individual takes and join them together to create the finished video. When tested after this stage the audio ( which was recorded within the video camera when shooting) is fine and perfectly in sync with the video. I am creating MPEG2 files before DVD burning, would another file format be better? No matter which program I use to burn to DVD I have the same problem. Hope someone can help.

The video files are fine,Click to expand...

What are the originals? What output is your camera producing? AVI, MPEG etc.

A:Audio/video out of sync...........

Can the source file WMV be perfectly played? If it can, Maybe you have to download some codec to fix it.
By the way, have you tried the WinAVI Video Converter http://www.winavi.com/wmv-converter.htm ? Which works very perfectly!

I have downloaded a movie, and the audio has a -300 ms delay. Simple enough to correct while playing using VLC, but, can someone suggest a way to actually permanently correct the issue? An ap that will split the audio and video, I tell it to add a -300 ms delay, and then re-merge the parts?

Ok so my laptop has been annoying me for a while now and I have followed every single step on the audio issues (hp recovery manager). The audio on videos, on all platforms such as windows media player, youtube, bbc iplayer etc. , keeps drifting out of sync as in the video will look like people are talking and then the audio might be 1 or more seconds out of sync then I'd pause it and play and it'll slightly improve it but this is an annoying cylcle and want to know if there is an actual way to fix it Thanks for any help

I find that when I play a video file like an .avi file from the beginning all the way through the audio and video are fine but when I stop the file and then start from the middle by advancing to that point the audio and video get out of sync, the audio is a little behind I think.
I wondered if I can change some setting or fix this because it's a real pain to not be able to go back to something I didn't have time to finish and have everything out of whack.

dell inspiron 1000 xp ,google browser . when i play the news or  movies the video is clear but choppy [stop/start] audio is clear but not in sync. are there any adjustments ? thank you

A:audio and video not in sync

Stop / start video sounds like you do not have enough bandwidth on your internet connection to receive video without it spooling in between bits. Video, depending on the source, transmits between 24 and 30 frames per second. If you only have enough bandwidth to download say 20 frames per second, you get a pause while it downloads say 200 frames. It then plays - roughly - 8 seconds worth of video, and then pauses again to catch up on the next 200 frames.
It might be well worth your while running a 'Speedtest' on your internet connection. Speedtest is a free web-site here -
For a one-off test you don't even have to log-in. If you wish to keep a record of your tests over time then you do need to create an account, which is also free. Just go to the web-site, wait it for to load, then click on the large button 'Start test'.
