Reinstalled Windows 10 and cursor freezing and loss of backlit keyboard

Q: Reinstalled Windows 10 and cursor freezing and loss of backlit keyboard

I purchased a A485 and worked well but quickly replaced Mech harddrive with SSD. Afterwards I noticed I loss the function of the backlit keyboard, as well as my mouse cursor kept freeze when using the Track point when I would use the middle button for scrolling. all drivers up-to-date and even tried reinstalling windows and drivers again...still have this issue the mouse freezing is the must fustrating since I primarily use the Trackpoint to control my mouse functions. I found that locking (windows + L) and login back in frees up the mouse again...but typically freezes shortly after pretty fustrating, especially when one of the main reasons I buy Lenovo is their trackpoint. I've seen people have similar issues but no resolutions in their threads.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I recently purchased a T460 to realize that it did not have a backlit keyboard on arrival, I see aftermarket ones online for reasonable prices so I'm curious as to whether or not there is some output on the motherboard I am missing or if it would be just like installing a regular one.  I have seen on forums that people have done it but I am asking specifically for the T460.

A:Can I replace my non backlit keyboard with a backlit keyboar...

OK here is the Service Manual: Manual The keyboards are not sold by HP as a separate part: only sold with the whole top cover. See p. 20 The Manual does not list any keyboard/top cover as having a backlight. However, the keyboard map on p. 15 shows the f5 action key as activating a backlight on "select models".  From this I gather that there is a place on the motherboard to connect a backlight cable if the keyboard has one. However, extracting the old keyboard from the top cover and replacing it with just the replacement keyboard is not easy and there are no directions in the Manual for that procedure. I would want to see one of these alleged backlit keyboards. Bottom line, it is possible, but I would be leery. Do you have an f5 action key with the backlight symbol on it? Have you tried it to see if maybe your keyboard is backlit? If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

I just got a T470. Excellent computer! I got the Core i7-7600U model with 4gb of memory and a 500gb non-SSD hard disk (T470 20HDCTO1WW, ordered directly from Lenovo). The 2TB SSD and 32GB RAM I got from Crucial work without problem (yes, I ran a memory tester) ? although, yes, it?s a moderate pain to take off the back panel (even if you have a special plastic tool for doing so). It?s a really great laptop; I like how clear and bright the display is as well as how fast it runs. That said, on to my question: I got the model with the non-backlit keyboard. Is is possible to upgrade this model to have a backlit keyboard? Here is the information I have gotten from my research: * The dealers selling T470 backlit keyboards warn that it may not be possible to get the backlight to work if the motherboard does not support it (for example, https://www.amazon.com/ThinkPad-01AX569-SN20L72890-Backlit-Keyboard/dp/B0727S1H14/ where they claim ?Please check whether your laptop can support backlit keyboard or not before placing the order, if can not, the backlit function of our keyboard will not work!? or https://www.amazon.com/CHNASAWE-Replacement-Backlit-Keyboard-Thinkpad/dp/B071KWWW21/ with a similar ?If your original/old keyboard does not have the backlit, this keyboard backlit will not work.? warning) * There is nothing in Lenovo?s T470 service manual at https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/pubs/t470/html_en/index_en.html#Replacing_t... If your computer is a "desktop" computer, it should be a "no-brainer".The USB port on your computer would supply power to the keyboard to run the back-lights. But, since you have a notebook, you'll have to find a keyboard that physically matches the size of your current keyboard, and then hope that the notebook's motherboard will supply electrical power to the back-lights.This sounds like a tough task!  From:  http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04472797.pdf >>  Full-sized spill-resistant keyboard; optional back-lit keyboard keeps you productive in low-light settings lists that such an option is available, or maybe, was available when this model was first manufactured. From: http://h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c04551620-2.pdf Keyboard with backlight and pointing sick for use only on HP EliteBook 850 G2 Notebook PC and HP EliteBook 750 G2 Notebook PC computer models (includes backlight, keyboard, and pointing stick cables):       For use in Canada776475-DB1

Keyboards for T580 are Tier 2 CRU (Customer Replaceable Unit), which means they can be replaced by customer without losing the warranty. Also you may request the keyboard replacement, free of charge, by Lenovo service (there are limitations depending on your warranty type). Remember that new keyboard won't inherit warranty of your laptop and its warranty will depend on the seller.

Hi everyone,
I'm hoping for help with my laptop, which has started freezing at seemingly random intervals.
I recently did a clean install of Vista because although it was working, it was rather slow and Firefox kept stopping responding every couple of minutes whenever I was browsing the internet.I've previously done a clean install of Vista on the same machine without problem so felt confident to do it again.
My laptop originally shipped with Windows XP and I got sent a Vista Upgrade disk as I'd bought it within a few months of Vista being rolled out.
Anyway, a week or so ago, I did the clean install of Vista and downloaded/installed all the other programs I use.But since then, my laptop has started completely freezing - seemingly randomly. Sometimes it runs fine for hours on end before freezing, but other times it doesn't last as long. When it freezes up, everything stops. The hard drive light goes out, the mouse pointer won't move using either the track pad or the USB mouse, the CAPS lock button on the keyboard doesn't turn the CAPS Lock light on, the Avast icon in the system tray stops mid-animation and basically I can't do anything apart from switch the machine off completely by holding in the power button until it powers down.
I've tried using CCleaner to get rid of junk and clean the registry, I've run Malwarebytes (which found nothing), I've used Defraggler and got it down to 1% defragmented, I've checked the hard drive using chkdisk and  found instructions to use... Read more

If it were me, I'd start by NOT overclocking anything, if you have, and see how it runs. If the computer is simply locking up without any indication of what's causing it, I'd reinstall windows with only your 500GB drive plugged in. Load the necessary drivers to get online to run your windows updates. Before installing anything else, including your AV software, I'd try to run your windows updates. Of course without AV you'll want to make sure you're not browsing the web for anything other than updating. If you're still locking up, then you may need to check the drivers you've got installed. If you can boot to safe mode with networking, perhaps download the newest drivers for your hardware and see what happens.

From what I have read Yoga 13 Silver does not have the slot required for backlit, but aside that, will the keyboard function and will it fit (dimension-wise)? If so, what is the voltage and current required? Would soldering a small battery to the backlit cable be a good idea (I accept the fact that I wouldn't be able to regulate it)? Thank you in advance!ck

I go into keyboard on control pannel and it says my keyboard is connected (1 to usb & 2 to the computers port Standard P/S2 keyboard& is working fine
.( it isnt working at all)

keyboard to turn on but I am missing a ribben connection to this extra strip of LED lights and what else ?

Should i order a plastic led light strip and stick it to my new keyboard to match the original
Do i need to complete the circuit where the led ribben was connected as it is a loop or safety feature or to complete the circuit
is there any chance i bl... Read more

Hi
I have recently purchased Inspiron 14" 5459 in India. This comes with a non-backlit keyboard.
Is there a way to get it upgraded to Backlit Keyboard? If yes, can this be done via Dell Support or I'll have to procure the OEM part on my own and replace?

Cheers,
Rahul
