Running Two External Monitors on New T580 with MX150

Q: Running Two External Monitors on New T580 with MX150

I am trying to run two external monitors one via TB3 and the other via HDMI, each works individually but not at the same time. Does the T580 hardware support 2 external monitors, if so how would I set it up ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a ThinkPad T580 with the Ultra Dock (40AJ0135US) and I'm wanting to use two external 4k monitors. I found this post (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/How-many-DisplayPorts-are-available-on-t...) that seems to indicate that this cannot be done, but it doesn't make sense since the dock utilizes two USB-C connections from the T580. Can a DP and USB-C on the dock be used for two 4k monitors? Is there any combination of ports that would allow the dock to support two 4ks? Will Lenovo be releasing a monitor compatibility matrix soon for their new laptop lineup, like this one: https://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/solutions/pd029622#USB-C%20dock ? I appreciate any help!

T580 (fresh from factory).  Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620 driver (12/27/2017 - 23.20.16.4905).  Intel Core i7 vPro 8th Gen.  Windows 10 64 bit (freshly updated).  Lenovo Vantage system update freshly updated.  (today's date: 4/28/2018) LG display plugged into HDMI port on Thunderbolt adapter which is plugged into the USB-C port on left side.HP display plugged into HDMI port on right side. Either display is detected just fine if I unplug the other one; but when both are present, it only detects one of them. This exact configuration was working fine on my T470, Intel Core i5, vPro, 7th Gen. So, bigger and better (and more $$) is worse. My bet would be on a driver issue.  (Windows won't let me install the Intel April 2018 driver - it says probably because the manufacturer did custom driver coding.)

A:T580 Won't detect a second external monitor

UPDATE: Well, ok, it DOES appear to TRY to "detect" the display when I first plug it in.  But it has no properties (e.g., Resolution) and the #3 icon on the layout panel soon disappears and clicking the Detect button won't bring it back (unless I unplug my other monitor - then it detects fine and works fine).

Ok.. I'll try to keep this breif. I bought this laptop SPECIFICALLY for the capability to run 2 external monitors via Thunderbolt 3. I have spent thousands of dollars on the laptop, monitors, and cables and put hours of research into making sure everything was compatible and it won't work.  My setup is as follows: Thinkpad T580 with TB3 portTB3 to Dual DisplayPort Adapter(x2)Monitors are both 32" Samsung 1080P monitors at 60hz (NOT 4k) Here's what I have done: Updated display drivers directly from Intel(newer than Lenovo provides)Updated BIOSUpdated FirmwareBought MULTIPLE adapters thinking it was possible an adapter problem.Bought MULTIPLE cables thinking it could be a cable problemI called Lenovo tech support and, after 10 minutes of convincing the tech that my laptop even has a TB3 port he obviously was unable to resolve it so I was mailed a new motherboard and a tech came to my house and swapped the board out. Same issue.  The laptop detects only ONE monitor at a time. If I plug them both in to the displayport adapter, one of them will work, the other will say it's not connected. If I unplug the monitor that is on, the previously undetected monitor will immediately be detected and turn on.  If I plug the undetected monitor into the HDMI slot it will detect and output. But this is NOT the functionality that I have spent thousands of dollars for.   I am out of ideas and now quite sure that, even though the marketin... Read more

Hi Maleks,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As I understand that you are have query regarding 4K resolution while docked in your P50.
Yes its working as per design as both display ports on docked are connected with your single GPU Quadro M2000 4GB
It will work within the bandwidth limits of DisplayPort 1.2 (i,e, i.e. can do 4 * 1920x1200 * 60Hz, or 2* 4K * 30Hz)

For more details got this page

I hope the above information helps.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Hi,
I have a small problem : I'm using my laptop at work and home with different external monitors and I end up having to manually set the display resolution constantly. I use a docking station so that I don't even have to open the laptop and I just send it to sleep and wake it up when I arrive to one place or the other. The problem is that my monitor at home is accepts way better resolution than the one at work, so when I wake it up at work, Windows tells me that it can't accept the resolution. I was wondering if there is a way to save settings for different monitors so that when I get to work I don't have to actually open the laptop and reset the resolution.
Regards,
Felix

A:Two external monitors with different resolutions

I assume you are using "Duplicate" mode for the multiple monitors.

The cable type can make a difference in what resolutions are available.
Are you are using a VGA cable in the office, and can you use a DVI or HDMI cable?
What video ports are on the docking station(s) and monitor(s)?

I have an AMD GPU, but i assume NVIDIA works the same way for this.

A:How to add two external monitors to HP Omen 17?

The USB 3.0 port replicator can be used as a kind of docking station. Hook the keyboard, mouse,  monitor(s), speakers and anything else to it and leave it as your workstation. If you do not need to game, the device I linked actually has a pair of HDMI ports that will provide extended desktop. When you bring the laptop to work all you have to do is connect it to the power (you might want to invest in a spare AC adapter to leave in place) and the USB 3.0 and everything else will light up when you hit the power button. The difference between a docking station and a port replicator is that the former actually powers the laptop and has an on-off button.  If this is "the Answer"  please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

I have a P50 with the NVIDIA 2000 graphics card.  Without difficulty I set up my old W530 with two external monitors...one connected to the display port, the other to the VGA port.  Complete failure with the P50.  I connected one monitor to the P50 using the hdmi port and it worked.  Then I disconnected that monitor, rebooted the machine and connected one WQHD monitor via the display port.  No problem.  Then I tried to add the second monitor (HD) to the system via the hdmi port.  Initially the monitor wakes up and then goes to sleep.  When I go to System or via control panel the machine is seeing only the monitor connected via the display port it does not see the hdmi connected monitor at all.  And worse, disconnecting everything and just trying now to connect the HD monitor via hdmi, it doesn't work at all.  It is as if the hdmi port has gone dead (except that the monitor when connected shows a connection then goes to sleep).  Any ideas????

A:Two external monitors from laptop?

Based on my previous readings, it was possible with the help of an extra hardware. The Matrox DualHead2Go splitter can take one video input and split it to two monitors. you could look for similar devices or try to buy one. Its not another VGA card but it works like a router, connect your laptop to the DualHead2Go then connect the two monitors.

I've got a C-level user who has a Latitude E7450, and E Port Plus docking station, 2 desktop monitors and a large, wall-mounted LCD monitor.  The E7450 has an Intel HD 5500 graphics card.  What he wants:

Laptop lid closed in the docking station off to the side.
Left-hand desk monitor as the primary.
Right-hand monitor as an extended desktop.
Wall-mounted monitor a clone/duplicate of the primary monitor (he uses it for meetings at his conference table at the other end of his office).

The wall-mount monitor is wired inside the wall to a wall plate with an HDMI connector.  It comes with a 6-ft cable with HDMI on one end (plugs to the wall) and DVI-D on the other.  He also had a short adpater connected to the DVI end with Display Port on the other which he had plugged into his old HP docking station.
The right-hand monitor is connected with VGA and the left-hand with DVI.
No matter what type of adapters or cables I try in various combinations, I am unable to get it to work as he wants.  We replaced his old HP laptop about 3 weeks ago and it worked fine in this scenario. (I didn't think about diagramming how the various cables were connected to his HP docking station.)  The HP used a DMS-59 connector for the left-hand (primary) monitor.

I currently have a laptop running with an external monitor attached and extended desktop. It works wonders. I've been itching to add my tv to the collection as a monitor for when I use the laptop for gaming. Considering, I already have a wireless keyboard/mouse, all I would need to do is add the tv as a monitor and I'll be set.
I've been looking at some usb to vga cables/adapters but not sure how they work. I really only need this monitor to be used half the time, so extending to it full time is kind of worthless.
Can you have a mix of extended desktop displays and duplicated displays across various monitors? Or, is it even worth it?

A:Laptop and external monitors

I am not sure that your laptop would have the processing power to run 3 screens (including it's own). You could manually swap the output between your second screen and your tv when you needed it without much trouble.

I would not recommend a USB to VGA adapter for gaming purposes.

Hi, I'd like to add a couple of external monitors to my Yoga 2 Pro, specifically the Dell u2515h model. This has dvi and hdmi in and displays at 2560x1440. Will the micro hdmi drive 2560x1440? How would I get the second external monitor connected? I've seen some usb3 - hdmi connectors but most seem to top out at 1920x1080.  How do do I get this to work without spending a fortune on connectors- I'd rather spend the money on getting a better set of monitors.  Should i I give up on the idea of dual 2560x1440? Should I go for two u2414h monitors, which would give 1920x1080 on each screen?  Thanks, Ian Brown

A:Yoga 2 Pro, external monitors

AFAIK the Yoga 2 Pro's built-in HDMI is version 1.4, which should be able to output 2560x1440 at 60Hz.As for a second monitor, you can look into a USB 3 to HDMI DisplayLink solution. Some of these support up to 4K. The biggest caveat with a USB solution is that the CPU will be under a fair amount of strain as it must handle the encoding of the video stream. This also means that while you can probably output 60Hz office and productivity work over the USB, any fullscreen games/videos will be very choppy.

Your machine dows not have docking port therefore you have to use USB port replicator (many vendors also call them as docking stations). HP has few products such as:     http://www.displaylink.com/newsroom/press-releases/displaylink-powers-latest-hp-3005pr-usb-30-port-r... Regards.

Hello - Is the turbo boost on the machine originally enabled or disabled? I saw another post with turbo boost issues, but wondering whether users could check or know whether theirs had it enabled or disabled? - Some people have reported fans pulsing now and again. Any update from lenovo on this? Thanks all

Hello,

I recently started using external monitors with my laptop on the vga port but on the external monitor is appearing sort of flickering thin lines.
I have already tested on different monitors but im getting the same result (dell p2310h 1920x1080, hp 1702 1280x1024, old lcd 1024x768).
But heres comes the interesting part, its going away when i unplug the power cable (no lines visible anymore)

So what can this be? laptop is just 4 months old.

Hi computeruser7,

I could read about this ?problem? on other similar threads when AC/DC adapter is connected.

So it seems to be a grounding issue between AC/DC adapter and notebook.

You can solve the problem when you buy a 3pin AC/DC adapter and power cord. I assume your current AC/DC adapter is just a 2pin version so changing the AC/DC adapter should work.

Check this!!!

Hello, I'm using a Hp6510b laptop with dockingstation, WinXP and one external monitor (VGA). Now I'd like to add a second monitor to the docking station (DVI) - with two outputs available VGA & DVI -, but I get no screen. Any solution, workaround or suggestion available ?

Hi,

I am just wondering if it is possible to have two "external" LCD monitors connected to my Toshiba Satellite P750?

One on the VGA and the other one on the HDMI perhaps?

Cheers
Niels

As far as I know something like this will not work. Video signal can be send on one port only.
You can do this but you need external device for doing this.

Google a bit around and you will find it. You will find many results if you search term ?how to connect 2 monitors to 1 computer.

For instance - http://gizmodo.com/136081/matrox-vga-ysplitter?tag=gadgetsperipherals

I'm thinking of buying Tecra Z50, but one of the features I need is the option to connect two external monitors.

Is it possible to have one monitor connected to HDMI and one to VGA (with notebook lid closed)?

*Hi-speed port replicator III is not an option since it is not available in my country (Croatia).

A:Tecra Z50 - need to connect two external monitors

Hi

I don?t think that you will be able to connect two external monitors to this notebook using the HDMI and RGB port simultaneously due to different kind of signal.

The RGB/VGA port supports analogue signal.

The HDMI port provides the digital video output and when the external monitor is connected to the HDMI port the display out device is set to HDMI.

How about the Dynadock? Its an external device connected to the notebook?s USB port.
It supports own graphic unit and you could connect another 2nd external monitor to such Dynadock.

Hello,
I'm working with a guy who has a Latitude 5570 with Windows 7 which is on a dock with dual monitors. The problem is increasing in frequency but about twice per day the monitors go blank. One goes black and the other goes green. After he restarts it will work again, until the next time it happens. I asked if it works when undocked but he said it's docked 90% of the time so he wasn't sure.
My first thought was video drivers so we updated them and it hasn't helped. I'm not sure where to go next. Could it be a hardware issue?

Hi Mr. Hansen,
Thank you for reaching out to Dell Community Forum.
What is the connection used between docking station and monitors?
Have you tried with alternate cables or ports?
Please private message us the service tag of the system along with your email id, so that we can check on the system configuration and the monitor model numbers.
(Note: please don't mention the service tag or email id on the public forum as it contains your personal information).
