Solved: Converting excel functions from English to French

Q: Solved: Converting excel functions from English to French

I have tried seaching for this information, but I can't find it anywhere.
What I would like to know is, do function words in Excel convert automatically if sent to someone with Excel in another language.
For example:

I am user English version of Excel. In my spreadsheet I use "COUNT" funtion. If I then send this document to someone who has the French version of Excel does "COUNT" then become "COMPTE" (which is the French equivalent).

Thanks in advance

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Issue since moving from IE9 to IE11 in the office

I've changed the Language Preference on IE11 to add both of them, English by default
Microsoft Office is already set to use both language

Although using Internet Explorer, we are having an issue where it only seem to spell check one language, giving errors when typing words in the other language.

Read on the internet some people that added both language in the keyboard layout, but that's not an interesting solution because first the French keyboard layout does all the English keys and second people tend to accidentaly switch language while typing
using shortcut or whatever

Any help regarding this issue would be appreciated

A friend of mine who spends 8mths a year in france and 4 months in portugal, has just purchased a ACER laptop with XP and all sorts of bundled software in France at a great price, however, he cant seem to change the language option to english, someone else out there who recommended the Shop and Deal has just told him that microsoft have hard coded XP to only work in French on these machines.

Is that true, is there a way around this problem - he is learning french slowly while out there, but would find it more natural in English.

go into the control panel and click on regional and language settings. on the first page you have standards and formats, click customize and pick what you want, then click advanced and make that the same as you picked in the first window. My problem is that the OS is in french and as my french isgood but not that good, I want to change it to english. So I have been on line at ebay and got myself windows xp in English, but what I want to know is - do I have to format drive c to reinstall the new version? And if I do do I need to make a reboot disk?.And lastly if the answer is yes to the last two questions how do I do it??!!

A:installing english xp on a french xp pc

Hi soapy

You will need to reformat unless there is a large enough unpartitioned space on HD and you want to keep the french version. Since the default on install is the whole drive, I doubt this would be the case. A clean install is the best option and is not very difficult. Remember that doing this will wipe the HD clean so if there is anything important on the drive you will need to save it, and make sure it would work with english version. Just follow the steps Here under Perform a clean install of Windows XP.

We are having a strange intermittent problem here. We have XP Pro, and Office 2003, with templates created for our people to use with Word. These are basic templates for faxing, letters, etc. but with our very plain text logo on them. Everyone uses them, but for a couple of them, their spell-checker comes up in French. This only happens on the company templates and not to everyone. I've checked all the language settings and made sure they were set to English, but it still happens. I open the same template on my computer and all is fine. So it seems to be machine specific problem. Has anyone else ever heard of this?

Thank-you, I've learned a lot from reading here. It's a fabulous resource!!!

Hi everybody!

My concern here is that I would want to switch my "French" Windows XP into an "English" one. Indeed, I am going to give my laptop to a Nepalese friend, and he cannot read French.

Thank you for your assistance!

A:Switch Windows XP language from French to English

The problem is that there is no ?switch? to change the language. You can change the keyboard layout but not the language of Windwos itself. In such cases you have to make a new and clean installation of Windows using installation disk.

I don?t know what notebook you have exactly but all drivers and tools for your Toshiba notebook you can find on Toshiba homepage.

By the way: If you install XP, I would recommend Service Pack 3. It contains important security updates.

I type status and info into each "topic" section, cut and paste from other files, and emails.

Hyperlind to file names.

I think it is related to a hyperlinked document name that starts with h3nnnn_-_all.pdf.

But, it will be checking spelling, and all of a sudden it will want to change normal english words to their French equivalent.

It complains there are too many spelling errors for it to check. I then created "my own library" to put all the technical terms in to reduce the number of errors. I put most of the english word errors that it wanted to convert to French into it, and that reduced the number of complaints, but it is amusing / annoying.

I cannot figure out how to find where the dictionary change is invoked within my file. Any ideas?

This might be related to my problem with the "too many edits problem" if that one is a heap problem. Don't know how to change the heap size of word 2000.

A:Word 2000 - Spell check switch between english and french on it's own

Hi Redsox2004,

Word documents, and different parts of a document, may be set in a different language (Tools / Set Language) than your default .

If you have copied from other documents then the copied text may be in another language.

You can set the text to not check spelling if it is causing you a problem, e.g. if you do not have the dictionary loaded for the language required. (same Tools / Set Language option).

You can see the language any text has been set in by looking in the status bar at the bottom of your screen.

Please help!!!

In the attached file, I have (with help) figured out the majority of the formulas needed. There are 3, however, that I can not get.

Here is what I can not figure out:

Issue # 1: Disregard the notes in "account 2 on" tab. What I need to do is the following:
If the percentages of G8:AY8 are selected AND of G9:AY9 are selected, I need it to show in D12
90% 100% "Platinum"
80% 90% "Gold"
60% 70% "Silver"
Less than 60% And less than 70% "Not to standard"

Issue#2: In D49, I need Platinum to = 1, Gold = 2, Silver = 3 and Not to Standard = 4. I need whatever the lowest of the 4 is, or how the boss put it, the lowest common denominator.

Issue #3: On the master tab, there are spots for percentages. I need to know what percentage are Platinum, Gold, Silver and Not to Standard.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi there,

I have a problem with calling some functions in vba excel.

I have a workbook with a single worksheet. In VBA I have all my code in the Sheet1 object including this:

Sub OpenSetup()
Call CheckDate
If DateInRange = 1 Then
Call DeHighlightYesterday
Call HighlightToday

MSGOPEN = MsgBox("A new week has started. Do you want to update the calender?", vbYesNo)
If MSGOPEN = vbYes Then
MsgBox "OK, please click ""Update Calender"" when your ready."
End If
End If
MsgBox "Welcome, enjoy your stay"
End Sub

Then under the ThisWorkbook object I have...

Sub Workbook_Open()
Call OpenSetup
End Sub

...intending to run the OpenSetup function when the workbook is opened. However when I step through to make sure it works I get this error message:

"Compile Error: Sub or Function not defined"

I am sure I am missing something very simple but I am just beginning with VBA and have drawn a blank.

Hi guys

I am trying to set up a markbook type thing using excel. File attached.
There are 10 sets of mark. Each set is made up of a academic mark (%), which will be typed in by the teacher. The second column is a symbol which will add or subtract bonus marks. A=25

The teacher will just type in the symbol.

The third column is a hidden column. This column uses an if function which gives the correct bonus mark as described above.

The fourth column must add the marks from the first column and the bonus marks in the third column.

At the end, there must be an average column, which must keep a running average of the marks.

My problem is this, if I use the sum function it returns a 0 value, if no values are entered. This then messes up the average value at the end. How can I enter the sum value so that if no figures are entered the total cell remains blank so that the correct average value is reflected.

Many thanks

AFAIK VLOOKUP will not be able to return a range; instead, perhaps you could solve the problem by devising a way to return the top left and botton right cells of your target range - then you can combine using INDIRECT?

I am trying to extract a date from a data cell within an Excel 2003 workbook.

The cell contains the data, "October 10, 2011 11:11:11 PM GMT-04:00" but I want only the date information and for it to convert to MM/DD/YYYY format. Basically, taking that cell and turning it into 10/10/2011.

I have about 500 entries with similar data and I am looking for the easiest way to extract the dates from the text. Mind you, the length of the Months (i.e., January vs. September), Date (i.e., 1 vs 11), and even time vary (1:00 vs 11:11).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Found the answer I was looking for:

Assuming the first cell is A1,

=TEXT(LEFT(A1,FIND(",",A1)+5), "mm/dd/yyy")

Copy down, then copy the column and paste values.

You can also use

then format the cell as mm/dd/yyy, then copy down.

Here is my problem. I'm making a countdown timer in Excel. The process is working fine, but my problem is when I call my Sub to set the time at which I want the countdown to end, I receive the following error:
Run-time error '6':

Here is my code:

Dim TimerEnd as Date
Dim WorldPop as Integer 'This value is picked from my Excel worksheet

TimerEnd = Now() + ((1500 - (3 * WorldPop / 8)) / (60 * 60 * 24))

Note: WorldPop was tested and the value from the cell is really loaded because I was able to modify another cell value by assigning WorldPop value to it.

Basically, I store in TimerEnd the time at which I want the countdown to reach 0 (obtained by doing TimerEnd - Now() )

The 1st part of the expression:
(1500 - (3 * WorldPop / 8)) determines in how many seconds the timer should end

The 2nd part of the expression:
/ (60 * 60 * 24) divides the 1st expression to obtain the seconds in decimal value which is added to Now() to get the end time.

What I don't understand is that when I type this expression in a cell of my worksheet that have been formated as date:

Note: 850 is just a random number which I tested the result. It can be any number ranging from 0 to 2000

It gives me a valid time in the cell.

=IF(OR(NOT($L4=""),NOT($N4="")),HLOOKUP($H4&"-2",raw_Test1.1!$C$2:$EE$364,MATCH($D4,raw_Test1.1!$B$2:$B$399,0),0),"")Click to expand...

This seems pretty much the simplest solution. I can think of only two additions.

You could define some named ranges, like
SearchTable = raw_Test1.1!$C$2:$EE$364
HeaderRow = raw_Test1.1!$B$2:$B$399

contract the OR like this
$L4 & $N4 <> ""

=IF($L4 & $N4 <> "",HLOOKUP($H4&"-2",SearchTable,MATCH($D4,HeaderRow ,0),0),"")

This formula isn't simpler or faster, but maybe it's easier to read.
