YOGA 720: AC charging through USB 3.1 Type-C; blinking quickly (amber)

Q: YOGA 720: AC charging through USB 3.1 Type-C; blinking quickly (amber)

Hi! I have a YOGA 720-13IKB (8th gen i7, Portuguese model) for about two weeks, so I'm still testing the machine.Yesterday I tried to AC charge it through USB 3.1 Type-C port (#3 in this picture from user manual, since it's a PowerDelivery port and can be used as a AC power adaptar jack, according to this. The thing is... As soon as I plugged the AC, battery status indicator started quickly blinking in amber (3x blinks). I left it for about 15-20min and it was still quickly blinking (the computer was turned off). According to this table, there's no status "Blinking quickly (amber)" while Charging, so I have no idea what it means. In any case, I believe it was charging the battery, because I left it with around 5% of charge before turning it off, and after those 15-20min it had more than 20% (it was slowly blinking white when I plugged the AC on the "normal" port, #1 in the first picture). So... My question is: Is this normal behaviour? Does the quickly blinking amber mean something bad? Quickly blinking usually isn't good, specially in amber, haha. Thanks & cheers! felgy

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I bought my Yoga 910 on may and its battery was charging normally until 3 days ago. Suddenly the charging symbol/icon in the screen start to oscillate between showing and not showing the plug - plugged and unplugged - every 2 seconds. The icon was blinking together with the charging led light (as the movie attached). I checked the cable for possible lose connection, but everything was in place.I checked also the battery on windows device manager, looking for some update, but everything was already up to date. The battery was not charging and now it is completely drained. Any help? Thanks,Paulo

I have a Dell Optiplex that runs a small CNC machine. The other day I started the computer and while it was booting up I turned the key board over and tapped it on the counter to remove some metal chips that were stuck in the keys. The computer quit working. I opened the back and saw a green blinking light on the mother board. I was told to replace the power supply. I did. Now I have the green blinking light on the mother board and a blinking amber light in the start button and nothing working on the computer. I don't know what to do next.

My power button on my Dell is blinking ambur. I suspect when I dusted the tower yesterday (while it was on), I created static. I went in later to use the computer and it was blinking amber, no fans were running, it was quiet. I have unplugged the power source for 24 hours...nothing has improved. Does this sound like the motherboard is fried or worse? Can it be replaced? And how much do they generally run? I can't believe I did that!

On pressing power button briefly, the fan will start but only for a second and then stops. The green LED on motherboard remains on constantly and the orange/amber led near the power switch flashes regularly but the green LED adjacent to it is off.

I am experiencing some difficulty with my desktop computer. It is a Dell Vostro 220s, Windows XP SP3, 3GB ram, 250GB hard drive. A couple nights ago we had a power outage. I get up the next morning to find my desktop off (I usually leave it on). I go to turn it on and the power light comes on blue, like normal, and the fans kick on. However, after a second or two, it turns amber and begins blinking.

I googled what the potential problems could be and how to troubleshoot it. I'm assuming based on my search results that it is a power-based failure of some kind, typically either the power supply or the motherboard.

I came across this while I was searching: ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-prod..._desktop/vostro-220s_service manual_en-us.pdf

excerpt from page 2:
If the power light is blinking amber, the computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem may

A blinking amber power light, usually indicates a power supply issue.
See page 14 Here:
ftp.dell.com/.../xps-700_Owner%27s%20Manual_en-us.pdf
What is the reading of the four Diagnostic lights, located on the front panel, or are they off?
See pages 15 and 61 of the owners manual.
The best method to check the power supply, is to replace it with a known working unit, to see if this makes a difference.
The power supply is a Dell proprietary unit, with a 24-pin and 20-pin motherboard power connectors, there are no compatible retail power supplies available.

When I left home this morning, all was well with the world...my Dell XPS400 was running smoothly, no indication of any problems. Came home this evening to find the PC basically lifeless, with only a blinking amber power light. No fans running, nothing. All attempts to revive failed. Disconnected power cord, cycled down, reconnected power.....nothing but that blinking amber power light.

Does anyone know what would cause this? Power supply? something else?

Thanks in advance.

You may have had a power surge during the day that possibly damaged the XPS power supply. Did you try unplugging it from the wall and waiting 10 seconds or so. then plugging it back in? Is it connected through a surge protector? If so, try plugging the computer directly into the wall plug

I have a problem with my Dell Precision T3500, the issue is that whenever I try to start the computer the power button it blinks amber 4 times and gives the number code 1 and 3 however it does turn on after a while. I assumed that it was something to do with the motherboard hwoever I am not sure since there isn't many problems like this on the internet where I could find a solution. I looked in the manual and the closest thing I could find was that it was a PSU or PSU cable problem. If anyone has a solution or answer for this I would be very grateful. The T3500 currently has a Nvidia GTX 260 installed with 4GB of ram. In addition if it is a PSU problem could you please list what PSU are compatible with the T3500 such as a T5500 PSU or a T7400. Thank you for your support.

A:Dell T3500 Blinking Amber 1-3 (4x) issue

I hope your machine is still under warranty :)  I've had this happen to 5 of my T3500s.  The fix is a new power supply.  Each time they've sent out the power supply, they've also sent out a new motherboard.  I think there's obviously a big problem with the power supplies in these T3500s, as each one from our initial purchase has had the same issue (we have a bunch of newer ones that haven't shown the problem, at least not yet).
Each time it happens I request that the tech person try to make this a known issue (and perhaps trigger some kind of extended warranty/recall), but so far no progress there....
Leaving it unplugged for a bit seems to fix it temporarily, but then we're scared to turn the machines back off.

Hello.

I have read a couple of articles about the same problem. Mine is a little different situation. Everytime the amber light is blinking on the power button, I pull all cords like monitor, speaker, and etc out of the wall outlet except the power supplier. It works everytime. As soon as the cords are out, the amber light become a green right.

This why I am confusing to find a problem. Do you think it is a M/B problem or Power supply problem?

If PSU made the problem, I would like to replace the whole case as normal tower style. I look up a couple of cases on ebay but the back side of the case, in which all connectors like monitor,USB, and printer on M/B are, does not match with an original M/B shape.
Anyone has an experience with replacing a case?

Hi friends, I'm using Dell Studio 1558 and recently bought an original battery online and I dont know the authenticity of that battery. Also before changing the battery, I had a hard disk crash and changed a new hard disk.
Now at times, I'm getting amber and white light flashing. Its getting corrected if I restart the system.
Can anyone let me know the meaning of this flashing amber and white lighting?

A:Amber and White light blinking. What is the meaning of that signal?

" recently bought an original battery online and I dont know the authenticity of that battery "

It's a possibility the flashing amber/white light means battery is low and isn't being charge. I like to suggest you check the status of the battery and AC adapter in the BIOS.
1. Power off computer, and then make sure AC adapter is connected to computer well
2. Power on computer, quickly start tapping the F2 key continuously, you should be in the BIOS screen.

Under the main screen, look for the AC adapter type. If the adapter says None or Unknown then it's an issue with the adapter. Suggest you replace AC adapter.
Under the Advanced screen, look for Battery Health, it should say "This Battery Is Performing Normally". If there's any other message, it could mean that the battery is faulty and needs replacement.

Note: If you indeed need replacement, please get a new genuine Dell battery that comparable with your system.

It's getting no power at all, and the PSU has been ruled out because I tested the machine with another known working PSU. Am I looking at a defective MOBO here, or does anyone have any other troubleshooting ideas?

Hello,
My XPS 13 started to act out pretty strange today. It seems like it doesn't not use battery at all, thus I can only boot it up when it's plugged to the charger. The battery indicator shows that it's NOT charging the battery, and it's stuck at 48%. When I disconnect it from the charger while it's running, it turns off immediately, and the only way to boot it up is to plug it back again. Additionally, the light indicator below the touchpad is blinking rapidly (~3-4 blinks per second) with amber light, both when I'm in OS as well as already on Dell splash screen during boot.
Any ideas on what might be going on ? I have bios 1.3.3 which I updated around April.

Has anyone else with this model been experiencing issues with the PC shutting down, and then blinking orange amber light on the front?
We have 100 of these and had this problem on a few of them. The blinking pattern is 2 then 1, which Dell says is system board failure. But resetting the power fixes it till it happens again. The first time it happened we replaced the PC, and the same thing happened. So we replaced the power adapter, and the same thing happened. Then we took a whole new PC out of a box and finally that person didnt have the issue again. But now someone else is.

These models have clearly indicators of  faulty component with the help of power buttons which blink accordingly .Now when the power button is showing blinking amber with pattern of 2 and then 1 it shows that system board is faulty . I can assist you with the service call ,do provide the service tag info ,system owners details ,contact no ,physical address ,invoice copy (sent via private message ) so that I can verify the same to arrange for service call.
Hope to hear from you soon .

The Dell in question will not boot up. The power light has a blinking amber light. I googled for information for troubleshooting lights on the power supply and it could be a power supply failure, bad motherboard, or bad hard drive. I turned it off, unplugged everything, then rebooted. Nothing. There are two lights by the ethernet port that are normally green and now one is red and the other is amber. I personally suspect it is the power supply because the fan does not come on.

The machine is a Dell Dimension 4700C, Intel Pentium 4, running Windows XP. Can anyone be more specific? The machine is no longer under warranty so we'd have to decide if getting the computer repaired is better than the purchase of a new one. Thank you!

According to the 780 Service Manual page 13,
Solid Amber Power Light = Second state of the light at power up. Indicates the POWER_GOOD signal is active and it is probable that the power supply is fine. Look at the diagnostic lights for further information.
Page 15 shows that 2/3/4 = A possible USB failure has occurred. Disconnect and reconnect every USB device, then try to power on.

My laptop is almost 12 months old.  2 weeks ago the power light (on front of case) started blinking -- 1 white, 4 amber, repeated continuously -- when A/C power cord plugged in and battery has a charge.  Same if I unplug A/C power cord and run only on battery. (Bios show battery is "Normal" and icon tray shows battery is fully charged.)  Power light is constant white when I remove battery and power only with A/C cord. I called Dell Tech Support and they told me that this is not a problem with battery and that my laptop is properly functioning.  Blinking light would seem to indicate otherwise.  I would appreciate any insights that anyone might have, in particular if you have encountered this same problem.  Thank you.

A:Inspiron 1545 Power Light Blinking White/Amber

Hello again
Thank you so much for replying. YES, when I disconnect the battery and only run on A/C power the light stays white.
So, I will have to get a new battery which is quite expensive as I am no longer under warranty. I hardly ever use it, only to move the laptop from one room to the other. I pretty much use it like a "desktop". I have been putting up with the annoying light for a couple of weeks now, sometimes I disconnect the battery just to get rid of the annoyance, but it has been windy/stormy weather here and we are known to have occasional power outages, so I rather keep it in.
Anyways, thank you so much for posting your issue and writing back. I appreciate it

Sometimes it won't start until some time after a full charge, but the indicator seems to say I have about 6-plus hours of life left at 80% and doesn't seem to be discharging quickly. It's holding a charge well, but the battery indicator persists in blinking.
Any suggestions?

Hi Cjsebes,
Thanks for writing to us.
Please update the BIOS if not yet.
Also let us know the battery health status in windows and also the ac adapter status in BIOS.
Usually it indicates the battery is charging.
Does the blinking once the battery charges 100%??
Regards

I have a Latitude 7350 with Win8.1 that has an official charger. Despite this, Windows says Battery 1 is charging but Battery 2 is "plugged in, not charging". Also, when I plug in my charger instead of the normal steady white light, I now get a blinking light that alternates between white and amber. This does not happen when I detach the tablet and charge the tablet. The tablet will then give a steady white light.
I have tried using Windows 10 and I tried doing a factory reset but to no avail.

Greetings,

I know this to be a huge problem, but I cannot for the life of me find anyone with my circumstances.

I unplug everything except power from the board and reset the CMOS, when I plug the power in, it boots to msg screen and allows normal access to BIOS. But if I unplug it and try to plug it back in after the mobo light is out, it won't boot. If I take the CMOS battery out, it works. If I leave the CMOS battery out and connect everything EXCEPT the front panel cable, it gives me the following errors but allows me to continue boot and access Windows normally:
Performing automatic IDE Config
Drive 1 disk drive
Floppy diskette seek failure
time of day not set - run setup
invalid config information run setup
Alert! Previous Fan Failure
F1 Continue, F2 for setup
Is there something wrong with the front panel interface? I have seen other posts referring to that be a lesser know problem. I ordered a mobo because after eliminating the power supply as a problem that was my next step. New mobo does the same thing. I just don't understand what the CMOS and front panel have to do with each other, does the front panel report to the CMOS hardware info?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
- Dan

Using a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 v2.0.

Every time I type a double E, I only get a single one, unless I pause between each keypress. Other letters don't seem to do it (I suppose I might type double Es faster?). Those of you with a background in electronics will know about "debouncing" - ignoring two very close together signals from a switch as it mechanically "bounces" off the contacts. I'm thinking maybe the setting is too long for this keyboard?

A:Keyboard too slow - can't type double E quickly

Control Panel> Keyboard> Character repeat, you have two settings; Repeat delay and Repeat rate.
Changing Repeat delay to >>Short should correct this.

i have a yoga 3 14 orange light flickers every 3 seconds and will not start.  we've had issues with the charging before, and replaced the power supply to start narrowing down the issue, but it still won't charge...perhaps the battery? any other ideas? thanks!

The main reason I bought the Yoga 12 is the claim that its battery will go for hours and hours on one charge. This machine is only a couple of months old and the battery drains from 100% to nothing in just a couple of hours.  I'm not doing anything battery-intensive. Using WordPerfect for work, Chrome browser for email and internet. Not downloading anything.  I would love a suggestion to fix this. Thanks.

Just bought a new Yoga 900 and charged it up.  Not only has never come close to 10 hours of battery life, but after 2 hours, dropped down to 17%,saying 3 hours 54 minutes left, then few minutes later said 15% with 1 hr 15 minutes left, and now 15" later downn to 9%.  What's happening?
