I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello -

It seems you have a similar post in the Windows XP section already.

Please do not create multiple topics for the same issue.

Personally, I would think it's more a driver conflict issue. Does the same thing happen in Safe Mode? Add any comment/concern about that in your other topic.

For more detailed assistance if you think the machine is infected.....

We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link I'll give you below, before posting for assistance. There's a sticky at the top of this forum, and a

link at the top of each page.

Please follow our pre-posting process outlined here:

After running through all the steps, you shall have a proper set of logs. Please post them in a new topic, as this one shall be closed. I currently have as many open topics as I can effectively handle; this will have you back in queue with the proper logs so an available helper would be able to assist.

I have a microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse set comfort edition. It used to work fine on my old computer and now i have just run a repair install of windows and it doesnt work. WHen i installed it last time i didnt need drivers or anything and there are none on the internet anyway. All i have is the Intellittype and intellipoint programs that came with the product. These are just about config and do not contain drivers or anything. I plug in another USB optical mouse and it worked fine. My keyboard and mouse are both plugged into PS/2 ports, the mouse by an adaptor. What do i need to do to make them work again?

About 2 hours ago, my mouse started functioning as if ClickLock had been activated. I went to CP to resolve the problem, but ClickLock wasn't on. After about 20 minutes of playing around, I gave up and tried System Restore; it wasn't able to be completed. After I had recieved this message of System Restore's failure, the letter and number keys on my keyboard had been disabled, (when I tried to press them, they started beeping) every other key was fine. So, I restarted my PC again and this solved the keyboard problem, however my mouse is still permenantly on ClickLock.
edit: Not only is the mouse on ClickLock it is also very slow and occasionally unresponsive to clicking. e.g I click the desktop and the mouse starts making a drag selection, so I spend the next 30 seconds clicking at the right time to make it stop

Since System Restore isn't working and my mouse has suddenly become disfunctional, I've decided to come here in case I have a virus problem.

On a magazine recommendation I installed DriverMax. I ran it and selected one option to update a microsoft t selected installing an

What has happened is that the

The frustration I have is I cannot access the DriverMax program through the keyboard only commands because it only responds to mouse clicks. I had wanted to try to fix the errors by rolling back a driver within DriverMax because the program only allows mouse input and I cannot use any mouse... ANY help you can offer would be gratefully accepted.

I figure that the only way to proceed from here is to reinstall Windows XP? Having removed all kb and mouse drivers from the hardware list a couple of times; downloaded the latest Microsoft drivers/software for the usb wireless keyboard etc etc I cannot make a dent in the behaviour...This as you might guess is likely to be a pain in the proverbial to maintain all my software in working order and to re-upgrade to SP3.

Looking for someone to assist an illiterate computer user!

I have a HUGE problem and am hoping someone will tell me it's NOT my motherboard and I'm just not computer savvy!

My computer was working fine (Win95). Hubby decided to turn it on and got a large static electric shock. The computer booted up just fine but when it got to the point where it was to load the desktop icons, taskbar, and such, all it did was load my wallpaper and display a "cute" little message. (Not so cute to me) The message said that windows was unable to detect a mouse. It also stated that I could turn the computer off to install a PS/2 mouse.

I checked the mouse connection and wire, they were fine. I rebooted thinking it was just a fluke. Same thing. I then decided I would reboot and try to enter the setup?(whatever it is called where you can choose to start in safe mode,ms-dos, create a bootlog etc) and maybe try safe mode or ms-dos. Upon rebooting and attempting to enter setup via F8 (this is the proper way to do it for my system), it acts as though it doesn't read the keyboard. Absolutely nothing happens.

When I power the computer on, the lights light up on the keyboard and promptly go out. Not even the numlock light stays lit. I have tried using various keys and combos to enter the setup to no avail. So it appears as though BOTH the keyboard and the mouse do not work on the computer any longer. (I am sure if/when I fix the mouse problem I will get a message saying the k... Read more

Hello Coplover.

Here's a couple of things to try. First try another keyboard if you have access to one. Next unplug the computer, remove the cover and clear the CMOS by either using the appropriate jumper or removing the battery for several hours. (It is best to find the jumper since it may take several days by just removing the battery.) While you have the cover off look for burned wires or places on the mobo. Also check all connections. If all else fails you might could get a USB keyboard and/or mouse to work. Hope this helps.

Hi all. I have already posted this once here. The topic had quite a few views and not a single reply. I'm giving this another try, as the problem persists and is not getting any better.

The keyboard on my Aurora m9700 is having some strange issues. I cannot figure if it is software or hardware related, either. At random intervals, the keyboard will cease function. But when I go into standby, then come out of standby the problem seems to be magically fixed! In fact, the problem just happened right after I finished typing the last sentence. I checked event manager, nothing changed. I had to go into standby and come out of it...

So please, is there anyone on here that can help me out? I have reformatted the computer since this started happening and nothing has changed, so I do not know what could possibly be causing this!

A:Weird keyboard laptop issue. Keyboard randomly stops functioning until I standby.

Just going to keep bumping this until I get a reply, or bet banned. Every thread has some form of reply...maybe I smell or something?

Here is an interesting one...
I have a new Dell E6510 Windows XP SP3
The Touchpad and Keyboard work good and when I use an External Keyboard that works great
When I plug Standard Dell Mouse into the USB port on the computer it beeps says it installed the Device Successfully
I can see the Device in both the USB Root hub taking 98 mA of power and I can also see the Driver it is using under
Human Interface Device.

The mouse should work but it does not. I cannot click or move the mouse. One thing that I have noticed is when I uninstall the Root Hub or the Human Interface Device the light turns off and then when I scan for new Hardware and re-install the mouse will function for 2 seconds then it goes away again but the light remains on.

It works when the First Driver for the Device is installed USB Human Interface Device but when the other driver starts installing
HID-Compliant Device it then stops working.

The mouse works and is functioning on multiple other computers and on this computer when I install say Windows 7 for example. I have tried several different mice as well including a Logitech Trackball. I am thinking it is the Drivers... Does anyone know how to change said drivers?

I hope you can help. I just found your site and joined. I don't know what's happened to my mouse or what made it begin acting strangely. I searched here and could not find my problem posted. My mouse/cursor is highlighting everything on its own and NOT highlighting anything I want to, it's drawing boxes on my desktop without me doing anything, it's making me double click on everything, it's not allowing me to scroll normally in my browser (FireFox), it's picking up everything and moving it, I'm now having to double click to open a new tab, I can hardly do anything on my desktop because it's picking up every icon to move it.....it's basically driving me nuts. I hope all of this makes sense. I do work at home on my computer and if this continues, it's going to be very difficult to do that. What's going on?!

Okay the other day I was using the mouse in which case it was fine. I used it again and it didn't work. I figured I had a virus or something like that, too many processes going or something. I googled it and came across a few things which I tried to no success. I turned my PC on again and it worked once. Every other time that I've tried to get the mouse to work it hasn't.

It's a ps/2 mouse on an advent 3511 2.80ghz.
intel pentium 4 processor
512mb ddr
geforce 4 mx440 128mb ddr/tv-out

I can do a HJT log and scan but can someone reassure me that they'll help me first?

Plus what else could it be?

I phoned the pcservicecall phone number and some dude said it sounds to him that the mouse was 'on its way' out but I'm puzzled. What if I buy a brand new mouse and find that it doesn't work?

Oh dear, I'm worried someone help please.

PS. I keep going to move it instinctively lol.

Hi Guys,
I have this strange problem. When I type something on the keyboard none of the printable characters show up on the screen i.e. if I open up a word processor or an IE nothing I type shows up. But if I press Ctrl+Alt+Delete the windows security screen shows up as it is supposed to. The arrow keys also work fine. Also, the pc reboots every so often (no set interval), a blue screen comes up before the system reboots but it doesn't stay up long enough to read what it says. Could this be caused by a virus? If so, do you know any fixes? I'm using Windows 2000. Help is greatly appriciated.

A:xp very slow start, mouse not functioning

Good morning .
I would try running the chkdsk /r command...on each system...if you have access to the XP Recovery Console.
Power outages can result in damaged files and/or damaged equipment...but the more likely (IMO) would be damaged Windows files.
At times, chkdsk /r can overcome this.
If you don't have a Genuine XP install disk...hence, access to the XP Recovery Console...then you can create a substitute.
See instructions by AustrAlien at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/421198/xp-recovery-console-cd/ .

Hi everyone, I was wondering if I can get some help with this issue.

Recently I installed a new copy of WinXP Pro onto my machine and everything was working correctly except for the Multimedia Buttons on my keyboard. Before, my keyboard ( Dell SK-8135 USB) worked perfectly. I tried everything from updating drivers to downloading repair kits. Finally after a restart, I noticed that the multimedia buttons worked but all my other buttons on the keyboard didn't!

I've tried uninstalling the driver, letting the computer pick up the keyboard but still no luck. Device Manager says everything is working correctly.
The keyboard functions in the BIOS but not in the OS (except for the music keys of course).
Does anyone have suggestions on what it would take for normal keys to work? Maybe something to be changed in the registry? Any help is appreciated!

The ALT Keys on my USB Keyboard used to work perfectly fine until around the 1st. I'm unsure of what caused this issue.

The computer I'm using is a laptop and both of the ALT keys on the laptop work perfectly fine.

The USB Keyboard I have has ALT keys but those don't function at all. They used to, but not anymore.

I've tried checking and unchecking sticky keys, looking at the On-Screen Keyboard, uninstalling, rolling back, and updating drivers... full system restores to middle of last month which is about a week before I suspected it stopped working.

Nothing has worked so far... what could this possibly be?

I use a wireless mouse and keyboard. Every now and then, often enough to be irritating, the keyboard fails to function: the mouse works properly. The keyboard problem persists for a few minutes, after which it works again. There is no discernable pattern to this problem.

This is the third wireless keyboard to show the same problem, suggesting something is wrong elsewhere.

The keyboard batteries are not responsible for the failure.

On the same desk is a cordless telephone.

Any helpful suggestions would be very gratefully received.

A:Intermittent keyboard non-functioning

I wonder if you are suspecting interference from other wireless transmitting devices? Your comment about the cordless phone suggests an obvious test - could you relocate the phone elsewhere and see if the problem still occurs? The same with any other wireless devices located nearby. Do you have any nearby electrical devices or lights which emit radio frequency noise?

Got an issue here. There's an error in my computer and because I'm not able to do anything when the system BIOS prompts me to, I can't fix it. I can see power lights on my keyboard but still, trying to get inside the system BIOS menus, boot from CD, or or even start into safe mode are impossible for me. However, I can get inside the BIOS if I immediately, (and I mean IMMEDIATELY) hit the respective button as soon and the POST starts. But after that, when I'm inside the BIOS menu, again, I cant do anything. I've even tried using a PS/2 to USB adapter to see if it may work, but to no avail. Right now I'm trying to reset the jumpers and take out the battery in hope that this will reset the settings. I've benched down to everything except the hard drive, RAM, and processor. Any suggestions?

I have a Abit KT7 motherboard, and a pretty old ps/2 keyboard, and a logitech [email protected]

Yesterday my whole computer went berzerk when I tried to change my mouse from ps/2->usb, I would get a bluescreen from a audiodriver and after fixing that, the mouse still didn't work properly.. Or it did, but it found new hardware (the mouse) after every reboot and it had a logitech mouse installed under human interface devices and under mouse it had just (unknown mouse= installed.. well to get there it took about 5h of uninstalling and installing different drivers and it finally seemed to work .. when upon booting into xp, the keyboard stopped working. In bios it still works, but if I eg. repeatedly press caps lock when booting, after the grey bar has gone to the right edge the light on the keyboard stops flashing..

I have absolutely now idea wtf is up with this. I think that this same problem has occured before too, I remember it being one of those bugs solved by eating a banana while dancing on one foot..

Yeah so now I'm installing (or recovering the installed version) of xp, but its kinda stuck since when it boots the first time from the hard drive the keyboard wont work in the installation program when it asks me where a file is.. I think I'll now install a fresh copy of xp, but please I really hope someone can shed some light on whats happening.

Since your mouse is working, click on your start and then "help and support". There you can click on system restore and pick a date before your woes. I've used this several time to save me from myself poking around and messing things up. Now I know this doesn't answer the "why" of your problem, but it might save you some hours of frustration. Also, once you get things as you like them, you can pick a particular date and set it with a name so that you can restore to that particular day. Another useful feature in XP.
Good luck!

Sometimes my laptop keyboard will simply stop functioning or have extreme lag. But it's different than the lag we are accustomed too. It's more of a one key takes about 10 minutes to appear and even if i continually press key's, it would not show all the keys pressed, only the first or maybe second one.

There appears to be no apparent pattern to this. It happens with or without battery power attached. It happens in the middle of anything. So, I really am doubtful it's connected to a specific issue or something.

I'm on an Acer TravelMate 2420, about 2 weeks old.

Running the latest Windows 10 64-bit, all drivers up-to-date according to the Lenovo tools, but the only key that seems to work on the keyboard is the Function Lock key in the upper-left and the Windows-logo key.  All others, when depressed, result in no input to the system. Has anyone else experienced this?  Is this a faulty driver issue in a recent update?  Or is this a hardware failure?
