Touchpad driver not working. Touchpad functions limited.

Q: Touchpad driver not working. Touchpad functions limited.

Until recently the touchpad used to work with the HP / Synaptic driver. 2 or 3 finger function worked and turn on / off with the orange light worked. For whatever reason these functions don't work anymore and I don't find a driver on the HP Support site to download and install.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, I would like to ask how to change a function assigned to a gesture (e.g. to a 3-finger flick navigation). After the recent APLS driver update it has changed from "back/forward" to "task switch" and I'd like to change it back (w/o reverting the driver, of course). Also applies to other gestures, like e.g. 2-finger tap would be nice to perform a middle button click for me.

I don't see a way to change this from the (IMO bad) driver advanced settings UI, unless purely experimenting with registry settings. I'm not against a registry manual edit, some details on what and where to change would however be appreciated.

Hi, I own a hp pavillion dv6 7050ca notebook and the touchpad is working but the disable/enable function on the top left corner, gestures, etc is not... The only way to get the functions working is to go to the mouse settings and right when it pops up, the functions work...but right after I shutdown, restart, hibernate, the functions stop working again..my brother has the exact same laptop and doesn't have this problem..we have the same device version(snynaptics pointing device driver version 8.1) and I also checked my msconfig to make sure synaptics is enabled on both startup and services..pls help me! Keep in mind the touchpad still works..just not the gestures and disable/enable square on top left corner of touchpad. And I also tried to uninstall and reinstall the driver but still no luck..any help will be very much appreciated!

Haven't updated your laptop's trackpad driver lately? Then you may well want to consider doing so, at least if your laptop is equipped with a Synaptics trackpad. As a user on the Hardware Zone forums discovered, the latest Synaptics driver seems to enable multitouch gestures on older laptops that didn't previously support them, including two-finger scrolling, and three-finger click. What's more, while the drivers themselves come from HP, they should work just fine on other laptops with a Synaptics trackpad. Hit up the link below to try it out for yourself.

The quality and functionality of the Lenovo Thinkpad touchpad is deteriorating over time.My ThinkPad E440 has an Alps driver and provides the option of 1-finger (side) scrolling as well as Chiran-motion (circular motion) scrolling.  My ThinkPad E540 (now deceased) had similar.  My E560 only had 1-finger scrolling.  My new E580 does not even have 1-finger scrolling. All machines have 2-finger scrolling.  Whereas the older machines have good range on this scrolling, the new E580 only moves a small amount for a 2-finger downward swipe.  On the E560 a 2-finger downward scroll for the full depth of the touchpad takes the scroll bar half way down the screen, whereas on the E580 the scroll bar moved down about 1cm (for the same application using the same file).I have tried to download third-party drivers from Synaptics.  Not possible.  Synaptics want you to use OEM.  It seems that the functional attributes of the Lenovo machines are being compromised by generic Microsoft drivers.  Shame!Has any one got any advice on this?

Hi! First of all, as I couldn't find a cause, I didn't know where to post this thread. If I posted somewhere wrong, please, move it to the correct place. Thank you

Today, I was using my laptop normally when, out of the blue, my touchpad started to behave strange. It would not move around the screen by itself, but its functions were all messed up. I tried reinitialization, restoring the system, removing and installing the synaptics driver, removing the driver again and installing no driver. Nothing worked. In safe mode was the same. The "touch click", however, worked a little. The touchpad now can't be used.
It's Win7 Home Premium 64bit. I was using at that moment, Skype, Opera, Gom Player, iTunes, firewall Comodo, antivirus Avira, Yahoo widgets and other system softwares I can't remember.
What can I do?

A:Touchpad functions messed up

Yes that tpad need to be replaced. Drivers can only do so much. I have since 2005 and it acts so bad, but can't get parts for it. I just use one of those mini blue LED wireless mouse from MS or Logitech with the mini USB dongle. To fix your issue depends if you in or out of warranty. Cost and labor will add more than buy $40 buck or less wireless mini mouse. My 2010 Windows 7 64-bit one seems to act up already. I just got MS 3500 blue LED mini mouse to use with it. To send it back for repair wont' be cheap I would have to foot the bill to sent it back in on 15.6" Still tpad works but if I type to fast and the pressure from my palms is where the trouble is.

I've already installed the latest synaptic driver. The device manager even says that the device is 'working properly' however i can't get the pointer to move using the touchpad.

The 'Fn' functions work:
Fn+F7 to brighten
Fn+F6 to darken.

EXCEPT the touchpad: Fn+F9.

Does anybody have any ideas? =[

Have you checked all the setting making sure something funky didn't get clicked, by the ghost of vistas past?

Have you tried uninstalling the driver then running win updates?

A:Aspire E5-511 Touchpad Driver not working

I am sorry that you having problems with the touchpad its gestures. I can assure you that the touchpad is working, however your touchpad is not a ELAN or Synaptics. It looks like we are shipping Precision touchpads with a lot of our newer Windows 8.1 products.
What this means is that the gestures you are use to are no longer the same and you have to go to a different location to manage your touchpads settings. For a better idea and explanation of Microsofts Precision touchpad and gestures, please visit http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/touchpad.

I was wondering if there is a way to customize the functions of certain gestures. Recently recovered from a hard drive crash.  I've got the new OS working but didn't have the Dell Touchpad driver installed.
I downloaded the driver Dell.com suggests for the computer.  The first time I ran it from Control Panel it worked fine.  I dislike using the touchpad and disabled it.
Every subsequent time I click "Dell Touchpad" from Control Panel, the computer pauses for a few seconds and gives me this message:
"Dell Touchpad has stopped working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I have reinstalled the driver several times.  I can enable/disable the touchpad using Fn + F3 and the notification icon is present in the system tray but whenever I run from Control Panel the program stops working correctly.
Any ideas what this is about?

Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (5th Gen) My Fingerprint scanner stopped working so I updated bunch of drivers, two of them being: (Synaptics HID-Compliant Touch pad Device) and (Synaptics Pointing Device). After the update, the trackpad stopped working properly. The clicking function still works, but movement, scrolling, windows precision gestures ceased proper function. When (Synaptics HID-Compliant Touch pad Device) is disabled via Device Manager, touchpad movement works properly, however, two-finger scrolling still does not work. [I think two-finger scrolling is not a part of the windows precision gestures, but I could be wrong about that.) I tried updating and uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for the two affected drivers. I am uncertain which of the two drivers are causing the problem.

When I installed vista I lost the function on my touchpad to scroll up and down documents and webpages. In XP I was able to run my finger on the edge of the touchpad and scroll but now the function is lost. I can't figure out how to get it back. Ihe only thing I do know is that my laptop was running the ALPS touchpad device driver.

I searched for updates on google but turned up nothing. Got any ideas on how to fix this. Sadly enough thats one of the reasons why I chose this notebook over another. I enjoy ease of browsing.

One day I realized I had lost pinch and scroll functions on my touch pad. Don't know why.
So I tried to install a Synaptics touch pad Driver. This provided the missing functions but the Cursor got delayed and the sensitivity of the touch pad was restricted to a certain spot. Therefore I de-installed the Synaptic Driver again.
The sensitivity issued got cured but I still had no pinch and scroll function on the touch pad.
Therefore I went to the Toshiba download site and learned that the ALPS Driver was the original Driver.
I tried to install this Driver (as requested for 64 bits).
The installation seemed to pass smoothly. After re-starting there is still no pinch and scroll functionality and nowhere the driver is found neither in the programs list nor added to the "mouse" Screen in the System functions Folder.

How can I get that pinch, zoom and scroll functions back to my touch pad?

A:Satellite L50-B - lost touchpad pinch and scroll functions

This sounds like program interference, you will need to perform a clean boot and disable firewall and antivirus and then try and install the driver. Here is a description on how to perform a clean boot, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135

I have an Sony Vaio VGN-NR430E with windows Vista. This laptop has a semi-sordid history. After being out of service for almost a year with a checksum error, I was finally able to get it up and running by a complete reformat and reinstall of Vista. The touchpad was already not working at that point (but it was a lesser problem then the checksum error).

I have managed to get the laptop completely working again. But the touchpad is completely dead. There are no drivers for the touchpad displayed in device manager - despite manually installing the correct ALPS driver. I have tried a dell driver fix I read about elsewhere, and also a file renaming solution for XP here - neither worked (the latter disabling my keyboard and mouse and I had to system restore).

Anyone have any ideas? Thank you so much for your time!

A:Sony Vaio with Vista - Touchpad not working, no driver visible

When you say there is no driver displayed in the Device Manager console, is there an entry anywhere in Device Manager that appears as something like 'Unknown device' or that has a yellow exclamation mark in the device icon? This would usually mean that Vista 'sees' the device but doesn't recognise what it is. If you see anything like this, right-click the entry and select 'Uninstall'. You can then do one of two things: you can either click the button at the top entitled 'Scan for hardware changes', or restart the computer. Either way Windows should hopefully re-install the correct driver for your touchpad, as long as it's still on your hard drive somewhere where it can find it.

Post back here if you still get problems. Hope this helps.

I'm running a Dell XPS 15 Laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  My Synaptic Touchpad stopped working after I updated an academic research program called Papers.  I don't know if that program caused these problems or not, but I'm afraid of uninstalling it because I may lose a lot of data.  (Long story, it's an expired trial version, and to export the data I would have to pay a fair bit of money, which I'm trying to avoid.  Right now all I want is to be able to scroll again.)
Anyway, the pointer would just remain in the default place on the screen, and when I use the keyboard to navigate to the Mouse section of Control Panel it says it "Cannot Connect with Synaptics Pointing Device", etc.
So I uninstalled the Synaptics software, and restarted.  Now the touchpad works fine, but without any of the vertical or horizontal scrolling capabilities that the Synaptics software had.
So, here's the current situation: if I install the latest Synaptics touchpad driver from the Dell site, the touchpad doesn't work at all.  If I uninstall it, and reboot with just the PS/2 Mouse generic Windows driver, the touchpad works but without any scrolling options.
I updated the BIOS to A12 from A06, but it didn't fix the problem.
Thank you so much for any help and suggestions!  Let me know if you need any more info.

i'm using windows 7 and have installed version drivers for synaptics touchpad.

i want to enable chiral scroll motion, as well as to adjust the sensitivity for the touchpad, as the cursor keeps jumping jumping around when i type, making me keep having to correct gibberish.

i know this version of the drivers supports chiral scroll, multi-touch, and other adjustments to touchpad function, but when i pull up the device settings for the "PS/2 mouse port compatible touchpad", the only menu options it shows are "overview" and "buttons", which only contain the patent notices and button actions. but otherwise, there is no way to change the functionality of the mouse at all. none of the usual menu options are there.

i've reinstalled the drivers, tried other versions, and rebooted a million times, and nothing seems to help. i know the capability is there, but i just can't access it for some reason...

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. it's impossible for me to get anything done like this.

thanks so much!!

Have you tried rebooting with the mouse unplugged?

I have purchase multiple xps 13 and inspiron 13 laptops and observe the same issues.  I tend to use the touch pad with my right hand's index finger, and click the touchpad button with my left hand's index finger.  It's a quick way to get things done.  Many in my organization do this, too and have been running into problems.
However, quite frequently (but not all the time) when I click the button with my left hand the cursor jumps to another location on the screen.  Frequently this is the lower-left corner of the screen, but sometimes it is the upper right, too. This causes different windows to come into focus, or it activates the start menu.  Really , really annoying, and it happens on both laptop models.  Our previous Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro and Acer laptops did not have this issue.
I think this has to do with the touch pad thinking that the user has two fingers on the touch pad and moves the cursor thinking the finger jumped around the pad.  Otherwise the gestures and movement of the touchpad is fine.
Is this a known issue to Dell?  It's really aggravating and other users in my organization are complaining as well.  I may need to return the lot (3 XPS 13, 5 Inspiron 13 machines ) and look at different hardware.

I have a Dell Latitude D630 laptop that has issues. Sometimes the touchpad works, and sometimes it doesn't. I've noticed when it doesn't work, the icon in the tray has disappeared or never booted up to begin with. Sometimes it boots up and sometimes it just doesn't even boot up to the tray at all. And at other times, it does.
(Along with this, maybe it's just a coincidence, but I've been working on this for days and days but when the touchpad doesn't work, the keyboard acts up too!) This might have nothing to do with it at all.

I've done a complete reformat of the hard drive, installed Win XP Professional, reinstalled drivers over and over. Been to the Dell website and have all the newest drivers.
When I reinstall the touchpad drivers, it does work once again, but this seems to be short lived.
The laptop is 4 years old...seems strong otherwise, can handle multiple tasks fairly well, has a dual core installed.
I can't figure it out.
Can anyone help?

Thank you!!

Hello, I tried to upgrade to windows 8 and found that the touchpad became super sensitive and jumpy. Reading online I found a firmware that claimed to fix the issue and found it on HPs Support site. Mid install, it reported that it failed and forced a reboot on the laptop. When it was back up and running I found that the touchpad no longer worked. Its exactly the same issue as in these links: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/Touchpad-Not-Working-After-Faile... http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Touchpad-Firmware-Failed/td-p/23... I've tried to reflash and to get new drivers but they are not able to go through. The drivers install but don't fix anything. The flashing will quit saying I need drivers first even though I have them.  I've even reformated and put the factory windows 7 image back on but it still will not work. The solutions posted in the above links didnt work for me.  Does anyone have any idea on how I can fix this?

When scrolling down (either one finger or 2 fingers), when you hit the bottom of the touchpad, is there any way for the scrolling to continue without your having to lift your finger(s) back to the top of the touchpad? On other Dell laptops, I have Chiral motion, or the scrolling continues so long as your finger is at the bottom of the touchpad? I tried enabling the "Continued Motion" option just in case that was what did it, but that did not seem to work.

Which brings up another question re what "Continued Motion" does.

Also, is there any manual/help document for this driver either on the internet, or in the software itself?

I looked on the forum and on the internet, and couldn't find any answers.

#1 For some reason my touchpad on my HP 15 (2015 model with 8.1, now upgraded to Windows 10 1511) freezes. I hate that when it happens, you cant use it for 20 or 30 seconds or so. I close my lid and open it back up and it works normal, but then after a little bit it starts doing it again. My driver is up to date, I think it maybe Synaptics? If I need to give more info, please say!

#2: When I scroll on my touchpad up words it opens the start menu every so often when I am scrolling a lot, but when I didn't even open or even get near it or press Windows key. What is causing this? I hate it when it does this and screws up my readings then it stops scrolling and focuses more on the start menu then I have to click out of the menu and go back to what ever I was doing.

Hello Everyone,

My problem started after updating windows 8.1 to windows 10, of course!
First the touchpad just stopped working, for no reason.

My solution was to uninstall the drive and restart the laptop. And from time to time I had to do this proceed. Two weeks ago windows updated, and the touchpad issue's gone. . Unfortunately, another one appeared.

The feature "mousekey", which is turn it on at ease access to use the numeric keys to use them as a mouse, It's turning itself on. And doesn't matter how many times I turn it off, few seconds and it's on again.

I've tried uninstalling the drive, which after windows the last updating was "ELAN".

Then I replaced by the Toshiba drivers, which is "Synaptic", and uninstalled the drives ,the problem is the same. Because of that, I can't use my numeric key, which is annoying!! If anyone can come up with something I will be grateful.
