Change the format of Date Modified in Explorer

Q: Change the format of Date Modified in Explorer

The Modified date of files in Windows Explorer is shown as Today - Yesterday - Friday ..... and if it's older than a week as a date 13/02/2013.

Is there any way to always show the modified column as date and not day-of-week?
thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've hit a showstopper in Windows 7 for which I have so far been unable to find a workaround. I maintain my websites by duplicating all updated files in my local public_html directory tree to a new location, and then using FileZilla to upload only those files to the web server. This has always been simple in WinXP :
- use WinZip to archive everything in the directory tree
- open the archive, sort by date, and remove all older files
- select and extract the remaining files to the new location

Unfortunately the new version of WinZip seems to rely on the new "feature" of Windows 7 that copying a file resets its modified date, so this approach is no longer possible. I don't see any way to force it to keep the original modified date of the file in the archive. Things I've tried so far to resolve my problem are :

- RoboCopy
Does not seem to have any way to filter files to be copied by date.

- RichCopy
Looks like it should work, but the GUI selection of include/exclude filters does not work. Everything is copied, regardless of the selection, nor does that selection persist when you save the profile.

- 7-Zip
Can't find any way to hide the directories and show only the files when browsing the archive. Deleting the older files does not remove the no longer used directories. I can't see how to get the files to extract using their internal relative paths -- the dialog box mentioned in the help file does not come up on this machine.

While searching for some information in some old files, I noticed that every time I open a Word document, using Word 2007, the "date modified" shown in Windows Explorer automatically updates and changes the file properties to reflect the current date and time. I make no changes to the file and at no time am I asked to “Save” the document, which would justify the update of the “Date Modified” field.

This happens in both Vista and XP.

Is there any way I can change this setting? I only want the date modified to change when I actually make a modification to the document.

The Windows Live Mail *.eml files time stamp is getting changed to the current date when the file is selected in the Windows Explorer! I save backup copies of important E-mails to folders on the Hard Drive and then synchronize them with the same folders on other LAN Hard Drives for backup archives. When these E-mail files are selected or opened from the Windows Explorer in the Windows 7 OPS the Modified Date Time Stamp is changed to the current date automatically! This action creates a real problem when doing later synchronizations of all of the folders! The date will not be the original date of the E-mail and the original file will be over copied with the file with the newest date stamp. I stopped Indexing on the *.eml files and that stopped the time stamp change when overcopy synchronization, but if the file is selected during a viewing in Windows Explorer then the Time Stamp is updated to the current date again! A solution to this problem would be greatly appreciated if anybody knows of one. Thanks - - - Shorto

A:*.eml Time Stamp - Select File in Windows Explorer Changes the Modified Date

The Date and Timestamp changing issue in Windows 7 has a two part fix!
1. Disable the Indexing of the *.eml file type in the Indexing Options located by Clicking on "Control Panel" -  "Indexing Options" - Advanced Button - File Types Tab - scroll down to the .eml file type and uncheck the Box then click OK to finish, so
that the Email type of files won't be Indexed.
2. Delete the Registry Entry listed below, be sure to Export and Save the original Key so it could be Restored if something goes wrong!  \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PropertySystem\PropertyHandlers
 and Delete the .eml entry

That should fix the problem with the changing Date/Timestamp of Email Files. For more information read CarlS's WindowsSeven Fourm thread where I also have more input:

 http://www.sevenforums.com/browsers-mail/35334-eml-files-timestamps-updated-constantly.html

Just recently, I've noticed an issue where the directory field "Date Modified" does not change after a copy/paste/overwrite using Windows Explorer.

Background Info:
To update images on several websites, I've been simply overwriting the old image files and syncing via DreamWeaver. I believe this method to update and preserve corresponding html links is a fairly standard practice in the industry. So I won't go into much detail here. The issue I'm running into is that my files are, suddenly, no longer syncing correctly after using this method for over 2 yrs. I believe it may be due to the "Date Modified" not updating correctly, but I never really paid attention to it before this issue occurred the other day.

Here's the scenario:

1) New Image files are created using Adobe InDesign and saved to a networked drive. Note: Because these tend to be recurring themes/designs, I create multiple files at once, so they have nearly the exact same Created & Modified dates to start with.

2) I open the image (PNG) with Windows Photo Viewer > File > Make a Copy > browse to my website folder and save over the old image. Note: warning dialogue clearly pops up asking me for the OK to overwrite the old file.

3) At this point, I have successfully overwritten the old image. I can open it to view the new content and (until recently) sync it to my remote folder with no issues. However, the other day I noticed that even though I could open to see the new c... Read more

This may be helpful to some of you? I was irrated that WLM only displayed the day and month in its boxes. Hi people, I'm new around these parts, but I'll try not to be an annoyance.

I had a client come in yesterday with a problem with MYOB displaying the wrong date format. Specifically, it displayed it in MM/DD/YYYY format, instead of DD/MM/YYYY.
Looking at MYOB support, it says it takes the Date format from the computers regional settings, and will change as you change the settings.

The machine is Windows XP SP2, it has no other errors that I've noticed. The machine is only a few months old.

We changed the regional settings, with no effect. We then went to customise the date format. If we made any chages, even selecting something from the dropdown boxes, it would say 'Invalid character' and not allow the changes. I hadnt added any characters, just selected one from the dropdown box. You'd think that they would be correct.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'm hoping to have the machine back in the office next week to work on it.

I've tried creating entirely new excel files and copy-pasting the dates there, either directly

Help! I am using a Seagate Central 4TB NAS drive attached to my router via Ethernet. It has been working fine so far for all kinds of file activities. But whenever I modify a file in one of its folders, the creation date for the file also updates and is

Maybe relevant details:
I can move/copy folders to the drive and they maintain their created dates.
It happens for both a private user share on the NAS and for the Public share on it.
It happens for at least image files and text files.
I am able to edit files across two computers on the network just fine, the create date stays the same.

This is a continuation from this previous thread I started but is more specific to changing one more thing before I export the worksheet to a tab delimited file.

Need to add one more thing to this script and it has to do with the way the date is formatted in some of the cells. The cell gets exported as to what the cell format is versus what the true cell value is.

So for instance. The actual cell value that is typed into the cell is 12/23/2013 but the client put in a custom format of d-mmm so it displays as 23-Dec and that is how it gets exported to the tab delimited file. I need the cell to export to the tab delimited file as 12/23/2013.

So I tried this code to change the Date Formatting but this did not work.

Code:
If IsDate(rCell.Value) Then
rCell.Value = DateValue(rCell.Value)
End If
Anyone else got any ideas.

If the column is actually a date (not text) then highlight the column and go to Format, Cells. Select the Number tab and then click on the Date format. A list of formatting options will appear and you should find what you want.
If it doesn't work, do the same thing and select Number. If you actually have dates typed in, then 20100410 would show as 40278.00 - if it is text, it will show as 20100410.00.

I would like to change date format to, e.g.,2014/01/12 or 20140112 at least for the command prompt screen.
It seems that this should be a simple item, but I cannot find out how to do it.
I would like to have it everywhere, but that might be too much.
The main reason is for sortability of copied lists, but it is also more readable.
We have used the 8 character format 20140112, and 20140112235959 for all of our data for decades.
Now we go to quadiseconds which is the limit of the double precision mantissa (irrelevant here).
The command prompt screen is relevant to me now.

The pivot date is suck in format
Saturday, July 07, 2007

I want it to be
07/07/2007 or anything but what is above!

A:Pivot Graph won't change Date Format

Click on a cell in your original data and see what it says in the formula bar at the top. Even though a cell reads, for instance, Sunday, July 01, 2007, if it is just formatting, it should read 7/1/2007 in the formula bar. If it does not (and I suspect yours will not), then the problem needs to be addressed there, in the original data. A pivot table graph takes the data that is there and displays that.
If that proves to be the case, do the following (this assumes your dates are in column A).
Highlight your column of dates, go to data, Text to columns, Delimited, put a check in commas.(BEWARE!! Text to columns will write over any other data, and this will write to 3 columns, so insert blank columns - extras don't usually hurt - after your dates and before any other data)!!!
The data will split out as Saturday|July 07| 2007 (where | indicates a new cell). Insert a new column between July 07 and 2007. Highlight the column with July 07 in it and go to data, Text to columns, delimited by spaces. Now you will have your data in 4 columns - day, month, day and year. Delete the column with the day (if you can) so the data is in columns A-C.
In the 4th column over (D, I am assuming), enter the following formula:
=CONCATENATE(A1," 0",B1,", ",C1) and drag it down next to your date columns.
(If you can't delete the days, it would be B1, C1, and D1, etc.) This will give you data that looks like July 01, 2007. In the next column over, enter this formula:
=DATE... Read more

To change the system date and time format through registry. Below settings is working fine in Win 8.1 and other OS version but not in Win 7 version. I try to do it manually into the registry by changing the below values but still the format is not reflected
in the Date and Time.

Also I noticed that when I change the format manually in the Short Time in the "Region And Language" it doesn't change in the Date and Time shown in task bar , but its working fine when I change it for Long Time format manually. As i see in Windows
7 OS, it takes long time format to display in the task bar Clock and ignoring the Short Time format.

Is it because of any User level permissions required or anything settings to be enabled/disabled to change these values?.

RegistryKey rkey = Registry.CurrentUser.OpenSubKey(@"Control Panel\International", true);
rkey.SetValue("sShortDate", "dd/MM/yyyy");
rkey.SetValue("sShortTime", "HH:mm");
rkey.SetValue("sTimeFormat", "HH:mm");

Please help with this question about file date-created VS date-modified in Windows 7.

Suppose a file is created at time1.

How come Windows7 reports "date created" as "time1" and "date modified" as "time2" where "time2" is a time earlier than time1?

See the attached file, "WindowsDateIssue201203061503.png", for an example.

A:file date-created VS date-modified where modified < created

If you (/your computer) have not played with system time:

That means that file is a copy of a file created earlier.

To confirm, find an old file and copy it to another folder/disc.
Check the dates.

This situation can also occur with some archives (depending on your settings).

I have an issue when copying files to my USB hard disk from my USB camcorder.
When the two are connected to my XP machine the "Date modified" in Explorer is preserved.
When the two are connected to my Vista machine the "Date Modified" in Explorer is set to the time of the copy.
*OS Vista Home Premium 32bit

I have ticked every "date" in Explorer and none of them are the original one from the Camcorder.
Here are the results of a recent example
XP/Camcorder date 1/12/2011 (dd/mm/ccyy)
Date 4/12/2011
Date Accessed 3/03/2012
Date acquired blank
Date archived blank
date completed blank
Date created 4/12/2011
Date last saved 2/01/2012
Date modified 2/01/2012
Date received blank
Date released blank
Date sent blank
Date taken blank
Date visited blank

Second related issue.
What is doubly annoying is the the file names use 0 to 9 and A to F.
I'm OK with this but again explorer (both XP and Vista) put A to F before 0 to 9 when I sort by file name.
e.g.
MOV00A
-- snip --
MOV00F
MOV001
-- snip --
MOV009
IS there a way to specify the sort so it goes 0 to 9 and the A to F?

A:"Date modified" in Explorer is not preserved

For the sort order, put a zero in front of the numbers 1-9.

Hello,

I'm using internet explorer 11 with windows 10.

Q. What format can be specified with expires=<DATE> in the Set-Cookie field?

As a way to expire cookies, I have set the Set-Cookie expires date to a point in the past.

When I tested

The following formats are not supported

Set-Cookie: expires=Wed, 01-Jan-70 00:00:00 GMT

However, the following formats are supported.

Set-Cookie: expires=Wed, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 GMT

Thank you.

This happens to the Winodws XP Explorer.

Would people out there please explain it to me. And also what I wish to see is the downloaded file creation date which should be identical to the one kept by the hosting web site. Or maybe other ways around

A:Why can Last Modified Date and Creation Date be the same

If I understand what your asking:

They would be the same, for example. You draw a picture in paint, save it and dont edit it again. When you save it you create the file, and seeing you dont edit it the modfication date and the creation date will be the same.

I am not sure if that is possible.

I noticed that the "date modified" on the recovery file in the Recovery d: drive is the date I last had problems and did a recovery install.  Is this field supposed to update to the date of last recovery?  I am just wondering whether that date modified might indicate that it was modified with virus/malware so that recovering would not result in a clean install.  Thank you!

I think what happened. Sunday night began a manual backup by trying to select entire My Docs and copy to laptop DVD R/W drive disk. Computer said it would take 2 days so 35 mins in I cancelled. It said there was a large set of temp files and I could retain or remove, I removed.

Went to bed.

Next day 11:04 am ran a malware prgm called CacheCleaner. Have run it 1000+ times and no issue this time.

Few days later go to access Quicken - no can do. File is damaged. Went to open my budget file in excel, says" file is in a different format than specified by the file extension. ..." Open it anyways, its completely empty. Go to open a MS word doc, cannot open, says there are problems with the contents. PDF problems too.

Every file has been mysteriously updated Date Modified to 1/4/2010 11:04am. None will open. Any file not dated 1/4/2010 11:04am opens fine.

Was there some temp pointer type file created during my aborted backup operation that was then deleted when I emptied my temp files etc when I ran Cache Cleaner.
This is horribly impactful b/c my last backup is old. Please help if you can.....
Thanks
T

Only those who have slipstreamed answer this please..

After integration of SP1 to a particular edition, did it the change the "date modified" column during the installation process??

A:Date modified

No.

Slipstreaming replaces files, it does not modify them.

Hi there.

How about that case in attached image?

Thanks.

A:Last Modified Date bug?

It appears explorer rounds up while the command shell 'dir' command truncates. I would say it's more of a discrepancy than a bug, but you're right. I'd rather both say the same thing.

My wife is using a laptop running windows 7 32 bit.
She is having problems getting all her pictures in order as in date and or month. When she clicks on the arrange folder and clicks on either day or anything nothing happens. She keeps them in an order by the day. Last week it was working just fine.
We have ran all sorts of scans such as Malwarebytes, spy bot, Glary Utility and found nothing.
Anyone know of anything we can try. She is afraid of losing things.

Thank You

Is it possible with Access 2010 to have a date field that would change to current date whenever another particular field is modified. For example, we have comment field and we would like to have another date field that would change to the current date when the comment field has a change.

A:field modified date

Yes you can do it with simple VBA code, you could also add it to the comment itself, so it appears at the beginning of the comment.

Hey there guys, I need some help.

As writen above I need somekind of way to delete the WHOLE computers Date modified LOGS(Not the files).

Let's say I come to Search and write Date modified and some day, then the list pops out with the list what files we're opened that day.

I want to find a way to delete the logs.

I found some programs, but they don't change system files which are "Read-only" so unchecking that, wouldn't be an option.

So please, people, help me out?

Early Thanks.

I have a key drive that I use for transferring my Minecraft to other computers so I can play my mods and saves on any accessible computer, but I come across a problem concerning the logic for transferring to and from my computer. On other computers I just need to download, play and reupload which I figured the coding for thanks to this site, but for my home computer I dont always have the key drive plugged in to run a script like that and to make sure I dont save over a newer version/save with an old one I need a way to get and compare the modified dates so that older versions/save get auto saved over with the newer ones.

I get I'll nee the FOR process but the %%~t command is for created date, what is the one for modified?
