Has anyone ever got homegroup function to work?

Q: Has anyone ever got homegroup function to work?

No matter what i do homegroup doesn't work for me.

-i have 2 pc's on my home network - 1 laptop, 1 desktop
-both homegroup passwords are entered
-folders are shared to homegroup read/write on both pc's
-nothing detected on laptop - nothing listed in network or homegroup
-laptop does appear in explorer on the desktop, but it says i don't have access to the files (this is an admin account)

I'd really appreciate some help here. Windows has me extremely frustrated. Troubleshooter is useless.

*i don't mean streaming, i mean sharing folders, thx.

Preferred Solution: Has anyone ever got homegroup function to work?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What are the start types of the two services? If they are Automatic, you may try to change it to Automatic(Delay) or Manual for a test.

I have two computers running Windows 7 Home Premium: a Dell laptop with a 64 bit operating system and a Gateway desktop with a 32 bit operating system. The desktop is hardwired to the Internet and the laptop connects via a wireless link through the same modem.

I have set up a Homegroup. I can see the network from either computer, in Homegroup, and also on the McAfee "Manage Network" page. The same Homegroup password pops up on each computer.

I can see files in the laptop from the desktop, but when I try to launch Homegroup from the laptop I am advised, "No other Homegroup computers are currently available."

Would anyone have any idea what the problem, might be?

Hello,
I want to rage on Windows 10 Homegroup because of all the hours I have spent. The homegroup is detected, but after I enter the password the homegroup is no longer detected. When I run the homegroup trouble shooting it says there is a network issue. When I run the network trouble shooting it says there is a gateway issue, but "fixed".

What I have tried:

both computers are connected to router via eithernet cable (still setup)
turning off the computers and booting one up to start a new homegroup; start up second and attempt to connect to homegroup
go into ethernet adapter properties to make sure IPv6 is ticked (it is)
went into the admin panel of my router to make sure IPv6 was enabled (it is)
went into services and made sure the following services were setup as "automatic": Peer Network Grouping, Peer Networking Identity Manager, HomeGroup Listener, and HomeGroup Provider (still setup this way)
used regedit and went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters to add "DisabledComponents REG_DWORD Value=0" (still setup this way)
Tried disabling antivirus (could it still be a firewall issue?)

I have been going bonkers

Thoughts?

I have seen in the forums at least twice that IPV6 is required for Homegroups.

As part of my elimination of anything I didn't need when Homegroups didn't work for me, I disabled IPV6 on both systems. I subsequently discovered that when I removed Norton 360, everything worked. I never went back and turned IPV6 back on.

I haven't done a lot with the home network yet, but I haven't had anything fail... I checked, and it is still saying that IPV6 is disabled in the network properties for both systems.

How is my Homegroup working if IPV6 is required?

A:How does my Homegroup work without IPV6?

Please correct me if i am wrong. To my knowledge IPV6 is not required for anything within the US as of yet, so i wouldnt think there would be an issue there.

I spent some time going through previous threads on home group problems but didn't see anything that seems to address my issue.

I once used home group some years ago between my wife's computer and my laptop and had zero problems. I have long since removed that link.

Now I have built a workstation and I can't get it to set up a home group with my laptop

I created a home group on the workstation
I set the Norton Security firewall to Full Trust
I copied/pasted the home group pass word and transferred it in a text file to the laptop (via thumb drive) just so there would be no chance of not getting it right.
I then went to the laptop and put the Norton firewall on Full Trust
I then told the laptop to join the home group, which it sees, using the same password as on the workstation, but it says it can't do that.
It suggested running the network diagnostics, but that showed no problem
It suggested running the network diagnostics on the workstation but that showed no problems either.

Both computers see the other on the network and both computers agree that there is a home group and both computers agree that the laptop can't join the home group.

I've considered kicking the case of the workstation or spitting on the keyboard of the laptop but that just seems spiteful and probably not helpful

What to do ... what to do ...

Thanks for any help.

A:can't get Windows 7 HomeGroup to work

A long shot but worth to check: Homegroup requires all machines to have exactly the same time, quite often issues like yours can be solved simply by synchronizing the clock on all machines using the same time server.

See this tutorial on our sister site the Vista Forums for instructions, it applies to Windows 7, too: Internet Time Synchronization

Greetings.
I'm a total newbie on homenet in Windows 7 and windows 8, so please bear with me on this.

Earlier I had a Windows 7 "main-PC", and a small (very small) PC running 24/7 with WinXP. With that my network drives worked fine from Windows 7. I could read the drive on the XP, but not the other way. That was OK.

I then got a Windows 8 pro x64 upgrade licens, so I upgraded my Windows XP to Windows 8 Pro, thinking that home-network now just run without problems. What a mistake

At first I tried to create a homegroup on my Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Some services did not run, so I checked your guide to create a home group Homegroup - Create. That was not possible as I first had to change the language in my Windows from danish to english, and after that try to find the services the guide need.

Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication is not on my servicelist, so I don't know what to do. In settings of homegroup, I can mark the things I want to share (pics, music aso), and then save the setting. But next time I look at this page, I share nothing again. It does not start sharing anything. At the Windows 8 PC I have joined the homegroup and typed the password got from Win7-PC. It claim to be connected to the home group, but no other computer is to be seen. The same in the Win7-PC. It also claim to be connected to the same homegroup, but no other computer is to be seen. Hi there.

I have 2 computers and the networking and homegroup between them was fine (could share files, print remotely, etc).

Then I decided to change the name on one of them and everything has got very screwed up and I desperately need help! (I believe the homegroup problem emanates from the network problem)

If we say the original PC that created the homegroup was called OLDNAME and I wanted to make it NEWNAME. Then I went to the other PC and found that now nothing worked. So, rather than play with everything, I went back to the original and renamed it OLDNAME again... but alas, this didn't fix things. (Yes, I did do reboots after the renames).

The strange thing now is that when I try to connect to the homegroup from the second PC it says there is a homegroup managed by "name" on NEWNAME (even though the name is OLDNAME again) and whatever I do, this doesn't change. If I try to join it, after about a minute it comes back and says it can't connect.

To access files from PC2 to OLDNAME, I have had to change all the permissions individually to be able to see them. If I try to print I'm told that the active directory domain server can't be accessed.

All this is down to a simple change of computer name that screwed something and doesn't want to go back to the way it was.

A beer or two for anyone who can help me fix this!

Thanks

Brian Cleveland

A:Changed Computer Name and now Network and HomeGroup doesn't work

To fix the Homegroup permission problems you might try leaving the Homegroup from both machines and then create a new one. Changing the computer name will break the Homegroup sharing permissions so this may be the only actual problem you have so it might be worth while to try doing this first.
Homegroup - Leave

Homegroup - Create

Changing the computer or User name can cause problems with file associations which aren't very easy to fix. Besides changing the User name you would also need to change the account's user profile folder name in C:\Users, the link below shows you how. This may not apply in your case.

User Profile Folder - Change User Account Folder Name

If you can't leave the Homegroup there is a way to fix it.

The fix for this problem seems to be Deleting the file idstore.sst under C:\windows\serviceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking

Once everything at peer Networking Grouping is running you may also need to do this...

Start the Task Manager
Click on the service Tab
Find the "HomeGroupProvider"
and then stop the service.

You may need to go back into services and enable Peernetworking again after the fix. Don't forget to restart all machines making the adjustments.

If you don't want to go through all that I would suggest you use the system restore feature to go back to a point in time to before the changes were made. System Restore

Anybody knows how to give back it's function?

A:Satellite Pro C50 A-153: F11 function key does not work

Hi

Are you using the ?Special function mode? or ?Standard F1-F12 mode??
The ?special function mode? allows you to use special functions without pressing the FN key.
This means that if special function mode is enabled, you need to press only F11 to turn the sound on and off. In case the special function mode is disabled, you have to press FN+F11 to turn the sound on and off.

You can enable or disable the special function mode in:
Desktop -> Desktop Assist (in task bar) -> tools & utilities -> Function key

But I'm wondering if the F11 button works using other software?
For example: pressing F11 button while using Internet browser (internet explorer) should enable the Full-screen mode. Can you check this?

Maybe the F11 keyboard button is faulty and therefore the sound ON/Off function does not work

Hey all,

New HP dv7 with the 2740 i7 and a 840 Pro SSD. Incredibly fast for a laptop, I was amazed. BUT, on restarts like if you have an update and you select restart, it reboots so fast the wifi won't reconnect automatically every time and noticed that if I have a minor drive error and shedule a disk check and restart , it says it is going to disk check then skips the check and I do not touch any key.
The machine was running great even with the error and in order to get disk check to run I have to shut it down and start it up manually and it will connect the wifi and do a disk check if scheduled.
Something is up with the restart function and I am thinking that this thing boots so fast that things are not working the way they should. I am talking like about 5-7 seconds to boot.
Anyone else notice a problem with restarts? I thought I had the wifi issue solved but I don't. No big deal on that.
As long as I stick to normal shut downs and start ups everything is fine. No drive errors.

Thanks.

A:restart function does not work well

On the wifi connect issue I figure out Windows 8 for whatever reason with the Intel Centrino wireless adapter does NOT like the router WPA2-PSK security setting whereas my Win 7 machine and another machine have no problem with it. I'll be darned. I notice Intel just came out with another driver for it so I will give it a whirl.

I've been trying to move around a lot of files lately. I've mostly used the Copy function at first (or third-party copy tools with hash verification), thinking it was the safe way.

Then, I experimented with the Move function, and I was surprised to find that it works with no delay at all, even if there are tons of files involved (provided, I think, that one remains within the same partition or disk).

I assumed that it is because it does not change anything to the file itself, but only tells Windows : this file used to be here, now it's there, just change the path.

I also assumed that, beyond being much faster than Copy, it's also safer, since it does not have to create the file all over again, so no corruption can happen.

And therefore, that it should be preferred when moving a large number of files.

Is that correct ?

A:How does the Move function work, exactly ?

For the move function:
(like you said)
The file stays put.
The path to the file changes.

The file might not get corrupted during a move, but (on rare occasions) recording the new path can fail and the file can be "lost" that way.

A:Search function doesn't work now

Have you checked to see if the search function works in SafeMode?

Have you installed any updates to the current software like your AV program for instance?

Anyway, the first thing I'd try would be to run SFC from a command prompt within Windows XP and see what happens

sfc /scannow

BTW, in reference to the services, I doubt that's an issue. Windows XP will start a service if it's needed, regardless of whether you've disabled it.

Hi. I am currently using Windows 8
Since a few days ago, my Copy and Paste function by using right click doesn't work as well as the command Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V
I already try some method suggested in the internet such as updating my keyboard driver, command prompt cmd/c"echo off|clip"
and when i try the copy and paste function on Microsoft word, it paste the screen capture of the current screen instead...
Is there any possible way to fix this?

When I go to "search" I get the basic box but it is empty. There are no options within the box. What files make up this function? If I can pinpoint what is missing I think I can get it working again.

I search by hitting Programs, then search. Win XP 1 gig ram, 250 gb HD etc. I think a malware program deleted a file thinking it was bad.

Hello Bill

Open Explorer and go to the Windows\Inf folder.
Locate the srchasst.inf file. Right click it and select Install.
You'll need your XP CD or the files from the I386 folder.

The Windows\Inf folder is a hidden folder. You can adjust your Explorer Folder Options (View tab) to Show hidden files and folders.
Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/View
Check ?Show hidden Files?
Uncheck ?Hide protected system files?
Apply

You can also click Start, Run and enter %SystemRoot%\Inf to open directly to the Inf folder.

Cannot Repair Windows 7, 64 bit, with Disk provided with computer.

My problem started with right clicking on a remote drive and hoping to view the Properties of the drive. I got that infamous "Windows explorer has stopped working" message.

I tried most of the solutions listed on the forum to no avail.

As a last resort I was going to use the disk provided and access the repair capability. That did come up but when selected I got the message "This version of System Recovery Options in not compatible with the version of windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of windows".

Has anyone run into this? Other than the above everything seems to function OK.

I do use MS Security Essentials and Spybot Home.

Thanks in advance

Is the system failing to start now? What messages are you getting at startup?

Is this a pre-built system or a home built PC? If it's pre-built (DELL, HP, etc) turn off the PC and restart, as soon as you turn the power on press F8 repeatedly until you get to the alternate boot menu. There should be an option to Repair Computer which should allow you to access the repair function.

Is there any way to change the function keys, so that instead of turning off the keyboard lights when I hit F5, the page refreshes instead?  And to turn off the keyboard lights, I would have to hold down the fn key?

If you have taken anything out of startups via msconfig please go to Start Run type in msconfig click OK and click on the Startup tab. Put a check mark beside everything you see listed there and then please do the following:

Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
