Portable scanners & Malwarebytes Portable?

Q: Portable scanners & Malwarebytes Portable?

Has anyone made one or what'd be the best way to have an Antimalware scanner on a USB stick? I know there is Malwarebytes Techbench, so has anyone used it and does it use MS-DOS tool or what?

Preferred Solution: Portable scanners & Malwarebytes Portable?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is a portable antivirus enough protection with Malwarebytes Pro?..or commandline scanner etc..I would really like to get away from free av's and dont want to pay for a program and todays programs are getting so big and memory hogs

A:Is A Portable Antivirus Enough with Malwarebytes Pro?

Did you have a particular portable in mind?ClamWin Free Antivirus is useful if you want portable on a USB or Removable Drive, however, it does not include an on-access real-time scanner which means you need to manually scan a file in order to detect any malware.IMO, not having an anti-virus working in real-time in the background defeats much of its intended purpose to protect a computer. What is your objection to using a free anti-virus?

I have a Toshiba Laptop, Windows Vista Ultimate SP2, 32-Bit OS...

I am able to open files and programs not associated with the internet or spyware removal...

I am unable to open internet explorer or any anti-virus applications...

When re-installing anti-virus software, it closes during scanning and unable to open again.

I receive the following messages when connected to the internet and trying to open a program:

"Windows Security Alert
To help protect your computer, Windows Firewall has blocked some features of this program.
Do you want to keep blocking this program?"

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

I have tried to run Malwarebytes but it closes during scanning and unable to open again without reinstalling.

All versions of RKill has not been able to run...

SUPERAntiSpyware Portable also closes during scanning even when opened from a usb drive.

FixReg.reg is unable to edit the registry

I would greatly appreciate any help...

Thank you,

Some software publishers or authors offer both portable and installable versions of their products. (Kee Pass is one of them.)

Is it advisable to systematically prefer the portable version, when running it from a fixed drive and not a thumb drive, according to the logic that if it's possible not to write into the registry, it's better not to ?

I often try new software, and I'm concerned about long-term stability. I install and uninstall a lot, using Revo Uninstaller Pro. But I've come accross people advising not to use Revo or other fancy uninstallers, just to stick to the product's own uninstaller or the Windows function.

Also, I have set C-Cleaner to a daily auto-run. In the past, I used its registry cleaner quite regularly. But some people say it's better not to clean the registry at all.

So I figured the more applications could stay away from the registry, the better. Is this a correct assumption ? Are there any drawbacks to portable apps ?

A:Are portable apps preferable, even for non-portable use ?

I have been using a lot of cleaning softwares too . Registry as well as junk cleaners.
Registry cleaner to me is a good thing as it removes the useless leftovers of programs that are left by their regular un-installer or some deleted files.

ANS1 > I recommended to clean registry as it improves performance and reduce junk in resgitry . So if portables apps dnt have or create these junks in registry then ur assumption is right and i m at your side too because " u dont need to re-install every software when u replace OS as it will work as it is if its PORTABLE "

ANS2 > Portable softwares are better then installed ones .

Above are the answer given as a user , i have used many portable softwares never had any issue just benefits

Hi All.

I was about to buy WD passport 500G when I noticed that they released a new edition and accordingly to the majority of the reviews on Amazon.co.uk Western Digital My Passport Essential 500GB USB 2.0
it is a disaster. They built s/w into HD's ROM, so you cannot get rid of it by formatting HD (it is loading a virtual cd-rom every time you plug the HD in. Just like Scan u3 usb stick, although I think you can get red of this one (didn't try it b/c I like it)). Also it has nonstandard small USB connector/cable.

So, I will have to buy either previous edition while stock lasts or I found another HD that looks OK but I don't know anything about it.

A:Portable USB HD

You aren't necessarily limited to the major brands. You could build your own by buying an external enclosure and then fitting it with the drive of your choice. I no longer buy WD/Maxtor, Seagate, ect externals. I just find an enclosure with good reviews and a decent price, then match it up with the drive I want.

My question, is there a portable disk that will connect to my camera via the USB cable which will allow me to download all the pics from the Xd card thus enabling me to empty the card to start taking more pics?

Has anybody make a successful Win XP Portable with a thumb drive?

I have read many websites and "How To's" but to no avail... it is one of those things that I tell myself I must learn to do as it would make my life easier for those times when the computer has a virus or help a friend with a problem, etc, etc.

I was able to get one going with bartPE but it takes a long time to load the iso file.

If any of you have, can you point me in the right direction?

A:USB Win XP Portable

Assuming you'd even getting it working, it wouldn't be usable. The USB interface doesn't work well booting a Windows OS. The performance would be bad, and some sites claim it drasticllay shortens the life of the drive.

I'm not sure how this would help (if it were possible) for either situation. If a computer has a virus, either fight it directly or pull the drive and connect it to a working computer and clean it.

My computer operates Windows XP and I can play music of all files type. I have purchased an IItronics II-22 MP3/WMA Portable Player. I can copy WMA music files to it and they are recognised by the device, but will not play. The instructions do not give any help- and I have been unable to find an answer on the net. What is the problem and please what is the solution?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated..

A:WMA /MP3 Portable Player

How about MP3 files? WMA files can be protected by DRM. If that's the case here then the problem is, more than likely, the method you're using to transfer the files. The 'straight-forward' method (copying them to the device) definitely won't transfer any DRM licenses. Transferring them using WMP should, although I can't say for sure. I have very few songs protected by DRM-if the seller doesn't trust me I see no reason to trust them so I buy elsewhere (usually on CD, from which I rip to MP3).

These days, whether you’re in business or a student, many of us move different offices, buildings and want quick access to our email. However, it’s not always easy to use someone else’s computer. For instance, if they’re logged on then you’ll need to use their browser and you’ll leave a browsing trail, personal information and you never know what they have installed on their machine. Would you check your account balance from another computer, for example?

There are a number of applications that can be installed on to an external USB drive and then run from this drive, without requiring installation on the host computer. All you need to do is move your USB device/key from computer to computer and keep everything stored on this device. You can customise the applications as required, too.

Many of your favourite applications are available in portable versions: Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, OpenOffice and many others.

The prayaya v3 is a collection of these portable applications, including a web browser, email client, office suite, calendar/scheduler, instant messaging client, anti-virus and backup utility. They are all included with an integrated menu, all preconfigured to work ‘out of the box’. You simply need to drag and drop the suite on to your USB device/key and they’re ready to be used.

I've been looking into this for a while, though was curious if anyone had more insight?

Portable (i.e. less than 15 lbs)
Laser, or??? (Inkjets just dry up too quickly for our purposes)
Color print
Duplex printing (auto is preferred, but manual won't be the end of the world)
Inexpensive-ish (no more than $300)
My husband prints out color coded Excel spreadsheets when he meets with customers 3x/year. He needs a printer for taking with him when he goes to these meetings. It needs to be easy to carry with his laptop, reliable, and frugal with ink. It will sit in a hot truck part of the time, it's just the nature of the job. We've had several inkjets, but buying new cartridges because the old ones dry out after each use has gotten too expensive.

Knowing that, what's the best option for us? Thanks!

A:Best portable printer?

Well, good luck finding a "portable" laser printer. You'll never find one which would qualify as portable. First the size for now won't get to the point where you can throw one in a bag. Especially at the price point you're talking about. The other is the power draw required to run the fuser of a laser printer. The fuser has to draw a lot of power to "melt" in the toner particles onto the paper. The power draw is such that many laser printer manufacturers recommend against using a UPS with a laser printer.

The portable printer I have which is a solid design as Canon is still selling them even after I bought mine about 6 years ago is the Pixma iP100. This printer is light enough to throw into my carry on luggage on flights. It has an optional battery pack which I opted to purchase which allows you to truly run the printer as a portable unit. It has a single USB port on it. And has decent print quality both color and B/W. Decent but not great/fantastic. Certainly more than adequate for printing Excel spreadsheets. Also, I'm still running on the original ink cartridges that came with the printer but they're due for replacement. Granted I don't print a lot with this printer. I'd say that's pretty good for an inkjet printer. Oh and a duplex engine isn't an option for this printer. Again, I don't know of any portable printer with a duplex engine option which would negate the printer being portable due to how the... Read more

I have checked the open voltages on each pin and also the voltages under load to check which are signal and which are power but they do not correspond to the electrical interface specification for I.D.E. connections. Compaq confirm that the motherboard pin outs are not S.C.S.I. although they cannot give me any more information. I hope this is the right place to ask this question, and forgive me if it's a stupid one:

I'm looking into getting a portable MP3 player, preferably one that has at least a few gigs of storage, and is relatively small and durable for higher activity use. I've looked into ipods and some by Creative Labs taht look really good for the money, but I am only running Windows 98 (Yes, I'm a dinosaur), and it seems like the higher storage units require a newer OS. Anyway, I wanted to get some opinions on what I should do. I have been told to upgrade my OS, but I understand that doing so may cause problems in running some of my current programs. Also, is there a possibility that I could stick with my current OS, and find a driver somewhere, or possibly find a player that comes with a driver that would make it work with 98? I've also been told that there's a possibility that the players may work with my older system, but the transfer rate would just be slower due to the older OS. So, if anyone knows an answer to these questions, and can suggest a solution, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

How to make Powershell portable with addins and extensions also without installing the .net Framework...

The features of this technique:

* Fully Portable

* versions that presume dotnet 2.0s preexistence (about 3MB to 10MB)

* Versions that don?t need dotnet 2.0 at all (about 100MB)

* Can run V1 and V2 side by side.

* Can run on a machine with PowerShell already installed, and your portable version has its own execution-policy and other settings.

* Can be packaged with SnapIns (so the SnapIns are portable also, no need to install or register them).

* Can be used with a custom Host , so you can have a Portable PowerShell Plus or PowerShell Analyzer.

I'm looking for a portable media player and I don't know which one to choose. Either the 30 gb ipod video (300 dollars) or the Creative Zen Media Player (330 dollars).

I only know a few things about each one for instance with the ipod you can only use itunes to store the music and can only put Quicktime format movies on the ipod. Also, What music and videos you have on your ipod must also be on itunes for when you plug the ipod to you pc it automatically updates the music on the ipod to match itunes.

Now with the Creative Zen Media Player, its pretty much the opposite of the ipod video. It can store a lot more formats for the video and music, but not quicktime and can use other types of media player on your computer to store the music, but yet again not itunes. It also has an am/fm radio which you can record from directly to the hard drive and a microphone if you feel like going on a monologue. It's also bigger but not much and has a longer battery life for the videos.

Thats pretty much all I have so far. If any of its incorrect can you correct me and most importantly can you help me decide which one to get.

A:Which Is The Better Portable Mp3 Player?

I would go with the Creative because of ease of compatibility. You will have alot more formats supported and just be easier to use but if you have and use iTunes I would go with the iPod.

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG
-------------------------- Use text after this line --------------------------------

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]

-------------------------- Use text before this line --------------------------------

Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

NOTE: If you have a USB keyboard and/or mouse, you'll have to modify the instructions and leave enough parts for those to function. I don't have one yet, so I haven't had time to modify the instructions.
